Those of us in the military who serve in "support" positions also look in awe at our fellow Marines and soldiers who knock down doors in Fallujah and wrestle insurgents in hand-to-hand combat. The front line is blurred but those who are truly on it - fighting face to face with the enemy - should be granted their due honors.------------

Since 911 the USA had to respond to the threat of terrorism
So Afghanistan was inevitable if USA wanted to sustain credibility
They good not let that rack head sit there and smiling
Iraq is one other story, it should have been left out .
Either way the soldiers that fight over there deserve
The gratitude of USA government and society ,and it is
shameful to read some of these comments, and reactions.
Man and woman who risk there lives, for there country deserves it.

Those Marines/Soldiers who have died in combat fighting are heroes and those heroes who performed acts of heroism must be recognized. They had sacrificed their lives to save their fellow service men, their friends and bother is arms. We go to war because we follow orders, we fight and die because we go to war with are friends. Any idiot that disrespect our fighting men and women because of the politics/ big business or country that places them in harms way has forgotten what the United States of America stands for. They politicians (Congress) who you have voted into office approved the funding and continues to approve the funding for this war. So don???t penalize the brave soles that faithfully serve this great nation blame the corrupt politician for putting their and the needs of lobbyist above the greater good. Sad fully enough our society has transformed itself from ???one nation under God??? into a mass of individual???s concerned with nothing more then instant gratifications and riches and willing to achieve this is with no regard of anyone or our laws or social norms, losers

Those soldiers who died or made "sacrifices" in Iraq and Afghanistan died and sacrificed in vain for NOTHING. They fought for the wrong wars and for the wrong reasons. It is Bush who made them die for NOTHING. They are not heroes, they died for Bush and that's why they don't deserve any medals!

My father served in the US Army Air Corps and US Air Force for 24 years (1939-1963) and although he received his WWII campaign ribbons, he never received any personal medals or awards for his 24 years of hard and honorable service. He never received any Commendation medals, Meritorious service medals, or a legion of merit. I find the US Army Air Corps and USAF awards system askew and non-existent. My father served his entire career in operational/combat units, starting in the 20th and 21st Bomber Command during WWII, was a first sergeant of a bomber squadron during the Korean war, and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1953. My father was a training and admin officer during the Vietnam war. After all of his hard work and dedication, my father was drummed out of the Air Force under the USAF reserve's 20-10 program as a senior Captain. No one in his chain of command in 24 years took the time to write a recommendation for any award for him. 24 years. My father died of COPD heart problems and cancer in September. I find the lack of loyalty in the US Army and US Air Force absolutely appalling

The Nazis gave out lots of medals to THEIR Storm Troopers, who pretty much did the same thing as ours..kick in doors, terrify the civilians, rape and kill...maybe we could give out SS medals to our "heroes".... Sieg Heil !

This the the part that puzzles me: "pathologists questioned whether he could have ..." Don't they realize that heroes such as Peralta do EXTRAORDINARY things? That is what makes them heroes. They overcome the impossible to protect their comrades-in-arms. God bless him and all who serve.

In my opinion, i think that the lack of appreciation for the soldiers that are over in the Middle East is sad. I have a family member who is on his second tour in Iraq and I know that when he is over there he fights hard for what he believes in and I think the men and women who lay their lives down for the sake of freedom so get a medal. And for Sgt. Peralta I think he diserves the Medal of Honor, because he gave the ultimiate sacrifice for his men and he saves lives that day and him and his family diserve to get the medal for his actions.

It is a sad, sad day, that our governement cannot or will not expedite the process of acknowledging and awarded it's service members for these acts of selfless heroism.
Let tat mother know that her son died for his friends and what he belived in. Let her know that when she is gone, her son will still be remembered

I think it's a disgrace that the awarding of the Medal of Honor is being delayed by red tape, or even being debated. Sgt. Peralta gave his life for his Marines and this Country. It's time we recognize his selfless sacrifice, and his love for his Marines, our Corps and Country.

Funny, says above that the powers that be are being rather particular about handing out awards. Yet, Bronze stars are being given to Staff NCO's and above for just completing a tour. Hmmmm......hypocrisy at it's finest.
I hope and pray that the President will sign the award for Sgt Peralta soon, so that his family, Robert, and all those involved may finally start to have some peace.

This is a joke. Too many of our soliders give their lives to this country and the government doesn't award them for their actions. Even those who serve before being citizens, and still, no respect is given. Politics have run amock in the military and it's all a show now. Leaders are more concerned with reg's and minor *** to actually see the heroism that is going on. Pathetic.

I am a soldier sitting in Iraq right now and this is a hard read. It's incredibly disheartening to know our troops' valor and bravery in the face of war is being overlooked because of beauracray and politicking. It is true that many of us, myself included, never have a face with which to identify insurgents; mostly, it's just a far off explosion we hear or a mortar that just narrowly missed the intended target. Many times, however, it's a charred humvee that carried soldiers on patrol, on supply missions, or on their way to provide humanitarian aid.

This is an unconventional war and as a result thousands of more soldiers, most of them not in the infantry, find themselves on the front lines than in previous conflicts. To that end, Washington, politicians, the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, etc. need to stop thinking conventionally. Granted, Medal of Honor recipients should be rare because we need to preserve the integrity and rarity of such distinction...but let's not be foolish to think there aren't just as many heroes in this war as there were in World War II, Vietnam, Korea, etc.

Those of us in the military who serve in "support" positions also look in awe at our fellow Marines and soldiers who knock down doors in Fallujah and wrestle insurgents in hand-to-hand combat. The front line is blurred but those who are truly on it - fighting face to face with the enemy - should be granted their due honors.

(spell check is down so sorry if there are misspellings!)
