Congratulations, Senator and Mrs. Obama! You stand for change the country can believe in!
Congratulations, Senator and Mrs. Obama! You stand for change the country can believe in!
Assuming John McCain gets the GOP nomination, it will show how whimsical history can be. It would be the first time in living memory that a Republican presidential nomination went to a candidate who was not merely opposed by a majority of the party but was actively despised by about half its rank-and-file voters across the country -- and by many, if not most, of its congressional officeholders.
Make sure you do not vote for this fool when your primary comes up later this week.
Many; many, many complaints being reported with the San Diego county voter registers office here! Both yesterday and already this morning! They had alot of "shady" things going on.
Several people saying that when they went to the polling place they were told that they had "already voted via mail-in ballot" when in fact; they did not vote yet! ( someone else posing as them placed votes?)
Several people reporting that when they went to the polling place; they were asked for ID only if they asked for a Republican Ballot! None of the people in line at polling places who asked for a Democrat ballot were asked to show any ID at all! ( even when they could not speak any English).
Several people who went to polling places here asked for Republican ballots but were told by poll-workers that they could not get one because they were in the system as "undeclared". Those same voters had their voter-registration cards with them that showed they were in fact.......registered Republicans!
Some bad stuff going on.
It looks like to me that people are voting just based on what they hear from the debates, interviews, etc. What we need to be looking for is actions, progress, background, experience, skills, knowledge, etc. I believe that Obama is a good speaker but I think he lacks in the senate position because he can't vote Yea or Nay he has consistently voted "present". And on the issues where he has voted Yea or Nay I applaud him his stance but we as a country need someone who will make decisions when we need them made. Hillary on the other hand does consistently vote Yea or Nay and may not always be the vote that you or I want but at least she is making a stand (decision) based on her information.
Furthermore, I believe that Hillary is more knowledgable about issues than Obama because she gets out there and gets involved.
According to what has been said (whether it is true or not I don't know) about Obama being raised as a Muslim and having immediate family members who are Muslims, I believe this is a slap in the face to our service men and women and their families if this is true. I agree with an earlier post that this does not need to be a gender or racist race for President but a race based on actions, progress, background, experience, skills, knowledge, etc. And I also think the media has caused or maybe a better term would be "highlighted" the terms "black americans" "white women" "hispanics", etc. to the point that it has turned into a competition based on gender and race.
Another idiot. You speak of looking at the truth, and not hearsay, but you assume Obama to be a Muslim becuase of some family member? IDIOT His father who was, left Obama and his mother, at the ripe old age of 2. His mother, a Christian, was his major influence in life.
And while on that subject, Christianity...a subject the Clinton's should be more familiar with....is ridiculous. They claim to be Christian, but it is the way you live your life that speaks volumes. Niether, Bill or Hillary can claim to be a Christian.
I think taking a good look at Chelsea gives you an idea of what kind of people the Clintons are. She turned out to be a respectful, stable, well-adjusted woman, so obviously they did something right! Now look at the "christian" President Bush. His daughter's are bat-sh*t crazy and how many times did they get busted for under-age drinking? What amazes me is how much credit everyone is giving independents and republicans. Do you really think after 2004 that they'll vote for Barack Obama?! I hate to be politically incorrect but behind the curtain people are politically incorrect! None of those people will feel comfortable voting for a man with the name Barack Hussein Obama, whose black, and has a father and grandmother with a muslim background! People will not do research on him, they'll be watching American Idol, and believing everything the GOP cranks out to them! These people thought John Kerry was too liberal! And they voted for the idiot instead! You really think that they won't think Barack is too liberal? John McCain will win in a landslide! Oh, how could i forget, he admitted to using cocaine in the past as well! The senior citizens will LOVE that! After all, that's who shows up in the masses to vote! Young voters won't turn out. They never do. Remember the Vote or Die campaign with P Diddy & Paris Hilton? It turns out, Paris wasn't even registered to vote! Therefore, I think she should keep her promise and die! haha Just kidding! Hillary certainly wasn't my first choice, BIden was, but I hope that since Bill could be in office for 8 years, that Hillary has more of a chance than Barack. The American public will not do research and they're not as smart as you're giving them credit for! Hillary is the best chance of having a democrat in the White house.
I would like to know who gave you the judge and jury role to decide whether or not the Clintons are christians. I think if any of you who are on a mission to be so hateful toward these 2 people would look at all the things they have done or been involved with in their adult lives, the christianity they have shown in the service they have given would make many of us , who claim to be christians, feel small. Second of all
the republicans are going to start sitting back and laughing as we democrats get petty and call each other names. How lame a behavior is this if we expect to win an election. I have taken the time to read both of obamas books and on many areas do no t share his vision. i have watched hillary since she was the governors wife and have always admired and respected all the things i have seen her try to accomplish and therefore am supporting her. Now let's stop all the hate and name calling
100 votes PRESENT out of 5000 thousand ??? Your getting senates mixed up, the votes he casted PRESENT were in the state of Illinois senate....not the US SENATE.
Is it really any better to vote present that many times in the Illinois Senate? If he doesn't have a problem doing it there, what makes you think he can step up and make tough decisions in the White House?
All, I am a very educated, white woman who runs a small business. Tax wise, I am in the 1% that the Republican vote is cutting. But, I don't care about my own income but the state of this country. I like Obama, he is a good speaker, but just wishing away that things are not as they are is just naive. Hillary has been working within the system for 35 years, and has successful results with Children and Women's issues. She is very smart, thoughtful, and has taken all that the Republicans can throw at her and she is still standing, and florishing. Hillary is an agent of change too, but she has backed it by real-world experience. If you just look at the raw numbers, the total vote counts for Democrats yesterday were astonding - we will win in November and we need a united party. The good news is, with two amazing candiates, we just can't loose. And for those who would flip Republican if they don't like Hillary, I am afraid that is a commentary on what is really driving you and I don't think it is the good of the country....
I am a fourty something, educated, man who has been financially blessed over the years. I too, am a stereotype Republican. I also belive we should vote for the person, not the party. I have never, in the 20 years I was able to vote, been swayed by the Republican values. I am one though, who will vote against Hillary if she does win the nomination. I truly believe she will do anything to get a vote, and change her views depending on the flavor that day! She has proven nothing, other than beiung behind the scenes in the last 30 or so years.
One more question for Incredulous in 08 @ 02/06/2008
Where did this woman live in Alaska that she had to drive 100 miles?
I lived in Alaska for 26 years and in many different villages, I never had to drive more than 2 miles to vote.
She should have been able to vote at her local church or school, and it should have been in walking distance. (There are only 2 highways...1 north and 1 south... 100 miles in either direction won't get you to any voting booths).
Good question... I'll see if I can find that for you. It was some town with two words in the name.... uggh... I can't think of it... Or the town she drove to. To be fair, it was stated as "almost a hundred miles." I'll try and find it, I know folks like proof. I got the impression she lived out in the middle of nowhere and had to drive to an actual town. I've never been to Alaska though, so you'd know better than me. I will look for it and post if I find it.
Hey Everyone...
Notice that the Obama supporters are constantly being racial and referring to Clinton supporters as "idiots". Speaks volumes to the 'type' of people that support Obama!
Let's be nice and quit insulting people that disagree with your point of view, we can choose to disagree without name calling and insulting each other....remember we are working toward a BETTER America.. We eventually have to unite as one Democratic party! Don't burn bridges now!
I could not possibly agree with you more. Keep in mind though... It goes both ways. I have seen some of the most vicious commentary I've ever read in my life coming from Clinton supporters in the last few weeks. I mean just the meanest, most irrational things. It is my sincere wish that both sides could chill out a little bit and have a civil discussion. You work on your guys and I'll work on mine and maybe we can have a conversation about issues.... (self cynical statement: "yea, right... things are about to get NASTY between the campaigns...") peace.
Last night, a woman drove over 100 miles with her two young sons in fog, ice, and 40-below-zero weather to vote for Barack Obama in Alaska.
She is a Republican.
I have a question for Hillary supporters: Every Republican analyst out there says things like Ari Fleisher did last night (Please, please give me Hillary Clinton to run against in November,) because they know how divisive she is and that her negatives will most likely send many Independents to vote for McCain.
Knowing this, how do you rationalize continued support for Hillary?
I'm just curious, please don't see this as any kind of attack...
Actually, I think the question is why is the media beating up on Hillary and has given Barack a free ride. It seems to me that they want Barack to win and why do you think this is? Don't get it twisted. Hillary is the bigger threat that is why they are trying to destroy her campaign and sprit.
Senator Obama gives great speeches but where is the substance? He talks of hope. I can talk of hope as well but I want someone who has shown that they will fight to make a POSITIVE change and Clinton's record shows this.
And this woman is strong------------the Media and SO MANY PEOPLE are trying to beat her up yet she keeps fighting and standing tall. That says alot to me.
Barack Obama speaks of change and hope. I learned that NOT all change is good and I need more than hope. Clinton has shown that ALTHOUGH SHE HAS HER FAULTS, AS WE ALL DO.............she can get the job done and this is why I support her. I feel that she is the BEST CANDIDATE!
Let me ask you this, where is the substance with Obama, please inform me of his political SUCCESSES. Not things he has been involved with but please list proven political successes. Please list successes that can correlate with the change he constantly talk about.
And also, please explain what is meant when he and his wife says "it is our time" . What exactly is meant by that. To me, I am taking it as a racial notion, PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.

Rocketgirl82 - Your essay is beyond ignorant and naive. "you helped inform people where to vote"? What does this have to do with the turnout by states, which is a very tight race. "Obama has lived in America just like a normal person?" Obama is abnormal somehow? Obama has more experience than Hillary because Hillary spent time in the White House with Bill?
Now don't get me wrong, I am a young male democrat and I am pulling for either Hillary or Obama. I just think you need to think through what you write before you write it. Ironically, your article would actually hurt Obama's chances of winning if exposed to a large population.
I am a PROUD REPUBLICAN and I plead with Democrats to please pick HillBillary. They are the best people for the president of the USA. Please Dems, please pick Hillary. Obama is useless. Thank you
YOU SOUND LIKE A USELESS FOOL.
MarkSmith
Do you want us Democrats to "pick HillBillary" because you know the GOP will take great pleasure in pouncing on them from a plethora of issues like the uranium contract scandal, Hillary's vote for the Iraq war, the mandatory Hillarycare? With a guy like Obama as our nominee, the only issues your party can bring up is his teenage drug use and his "inexperience." We're smarter than that!
Wake up. Obama is not an outsider of the "political machine" but one of its anointed stars. Obama is not a prophet, but a CLEVER POLITICIAN, who knows how to convince the Starbucks set they're being "grassroots" political activists simply by buying hip t-shirts and posters . Anyone endorsed by Ted Kennedy and John Kerryor, or who delivered a primetime speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention is hardly a "fringe" candidate or politically pure.
John JAcobs...yes, she has 4 YEARS, NOT 30! She is and always will be as the Republicans say, a flip-flopper. Her views change with the polls, and she is again, nothing but a true politician. We need a radical change, and that means getting rid of ALL politicans in the WH. She has no ehtics, morals, nor experience as she says.
You say getting rid of ALL politicians in the White House... so what would you suggest?
First and foremost...DONT VOTE FOR HILLARY!
But she's not ALL politicians??? So what next?
It starts there.. The last thing we need, is a disgruntled, antagonisitc, flip-flopping woman in office!
I live in Illinois, so I guess I'm supposed to vote for Obama. Why? Because this is his home state. Oh, that's a great reason. Actually, I'm against Obama and it's because I'm from Illinois. Obama ran pretty much unopposed here, because the Republican candidate for Senator, who was a solid challenger, dropped out of the race when his ex-wife revealed he liked kinky sex and suggested a threesome. Ooh, clearly Jack Ryan couldn't be a good leader, then! So, a last second fill-in was chosen, Alan Keyes, who is a nut and offered no competition. Obama spoke a good game about all the things he was going to do. He looked like he might actually be a leader. But no, before he does or learns anything, he runs for President. If he gets in, he won't be able to do anything because Congress won't respect him and will be jealous. He has failed to deliver on his promises to Illinois because of his campaign. I didn't vote for him so that he could run for President; I voted for him to be an Illinois Senator. Once he's proven himself with a few terms, if he wants to run, great. Right now, I have nothing by which to gage him, except for the fact that he isn't doing his job and has broken that promise to Illinios, already. That's not a good trait. Also, he seems hungry to be President; impatient to wait until he has more experience or afraid he will screw up and taint his record. I don't want an impatient President or one afraid to make a mistake.
Obama also has flipped personalities. He used to talk about the issues; now, he just shrieks, "Change... change... change... I'm exicted... change!" Who makes the least change in government and the status quo? The candidates who scream about "Change!"
Gotta go with Clinton; has the experience, has paid her dues, shows extreme patience, both with her husband and in her own policital career.
Truthfully, neither is a leader. Once again, no leaders are running, just politicians. Politicians want to see their names in history books; leaders write history.
Colin Powell and Al Gore, where are you guys? You are the candidates we need! Scratch that; you are the leaders we need!
(part of my entry today on my blog DId You Stop to Think?)
One more thing..this time about Obama. I do read so many that agree with my position..but want to clearly state it....
WE CANNOT elect a person to be our president bases on "good" speaches and "Super Star" endorsements. WE MUST ELECT BASED ON ABILITY. Obama is just popular with the media, this is confusing the younger voters....they are missing the QUALIFICATIONS.
SHAME ON THE MEDIA... First of all, Huckabee IS the most QUALIFIED of the Republicans and Clinton IS the most qualified of the Democrats.....If the media would quit "coloring" this race they would see that WE (average "joe" Americans) know what the hell we are doing!
AS A YOUNG VOTER I AM NOT CONFUSED NOR AM I COLORING THIS RACE AS YOU'VE MENTION I BELIEVE THAT SENATOR OBAMA AND CLINTON HAVE GOOD QUALIFICATIONS BUT, I BELIEVE THAT OBAMA ABILITY TO RUN THE PRESIDENCY IS GREATER SURE HE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IN POLITICS AS LONG AS CLINTON BUT, HIS QUALIFICATIONS ARE EXEMPLARY AND WE ALL KNOW THAT MEDIA REALLY HAVE NEVER BEEN A FRIEND OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PEOPLE ANYWAY. SO QUIT MAKING EXCUSES TO JUSTIFY WHY YOU WON'T VOTE FOR HIM.
she won the big states....
And is currently behind ....GO Obama!
I just can't vote for Hilliary. She has proven to have no leadership ablility. I don't see how women can vote for her when she didn't have the guts to leave her husband when she had proof he cheated on her. But we all know why she stayed with Bill. So she could increase the chance of having a political carreer. Which begs the question of when she is faced with a tough decision, will she do what's best for the country, or best for her career...I know the answer. One more thing, back in 1992 she promised if Bill got elected she would reform health care. I have not seen any reform..broken promise!!! If Hilliary gets elected we will get plenty more of those broken promises. I could vote for Obama because he will provide leadership and will inspire, but if Hilliary gets the Democratic nom. I vote for anybody else. Straight up, she's the type of women I want leading the country. I want a women who will leave her man when he cheats on her in front of the whole country.
I am sick and tired of people bringing up the adultry that was involved in their marriage. First and foremost, this is a private issue between a husband and wife that should have never been publicized. Secondly, I as a woman that was cheated on and stayed with my husband take offense to your comment. It takes more "guts" as you so eloquently put it to stay and pick up the pieces than to run away. I applaude her for trying to save her marriage.
UNITE THE FIGHT.
No matter the argument... we must vote Democrat. Or we will certainly have the status quo in the WH.
Good luck with the discussion.
And Remember... UNITE THE FIGHT!
Everyone keeps participating in a back in forward argument, ignoring key facts. The first and foremost thing we should keep in mind is that Clinton and Obama are DEMOCRATS!!! Either one will do loads for our country in these close to desparate times. Who cares if Obama's daddy was once a Muslim? Some president's not to mention their Daddy's owned slaves. Some Presidents (I am SURE more than just Bill) claimed to be Christians and cheated on their wives in office. And I'm sure there are a lot of other irreprehensible things that have happened because of the these men. And fact: Obama has some experience, but Hillary has more. Regardless if you count her "experience" as the First Lady, she has never exactly been the idle housewife, ignorant of the political and social world she lived in. The bashing of two virtually equal candidates is pointless! Pick your stance on the issues you believe in and bash the GOP who has OPPOSITE, not similar stances on issues. If you are for MANDATORY health care for everyone, go with Hillary. If you think she was wrong to vote for the war, pick Obama. Keep in mind your going to help pay for healthcare and Obama didn't vote with the popular American opinion of the time, supporting GW's invasion.
The Mad Hatter's new fight song goes like this Bom, Bom, Bom, Bomthe Mor'Mon Bomb, Bomb Bomb Bomb the Mor-'Mon.
I believe John.Jacobs24 @ 02/06/2008 11:36:38 AM said it all and said it RIGHT!. I am sorry I do not agree with grammagram @ 02/06/2008 11:36:42 AM or even less with regio56 @ 02/06/2008 11:36:45 AM because if religion, race or color shouldn't matter so why should gender matter. I would rather have a person with 30 + years experience making decisions for a country that someone that nobody knew who he was 2 years ago. This country NEEDS to go back to the power it is supposed to be and only Clinton can do that. Don't you know that a woman always does a better job! A woman will clean up the mess that is left behind!!
Like the one that Monica Lewinsky cleaned up?
You do know that EVERY american president has had sexual relations outside of their marriage? And you do know that at least one of our previous presidents might have been gay?
Make your case on tangible things...not media hype. What about the Kennedy's???? Do you think he was faithful..Marilin Monroe comes to mind...oh and she is dead...still unsolved mystery. Move along...
