Why is it that so many discuss the tax cuts as specifically designed for the wealthy. I doubt if most two income per household Americans would consider themselves wealthy. The effects of the marriage penalty need to play a major factor in any review or criticism of the Bush tax cuts. Sound bites are just that, and only address a small portion of the total picture.

Anyone in their right mind knows that the fair tax would be a huge failure. The idea has been around for years and no congress would ever write it into law. Huckabee is simply uising the idea to gain support from anti-IRS people to go with the evangelical vote. The fair tax would hurt the middle class and benefit the wealthy, as it would be solely based on a sales tax. If someone makes 1 million and only spends 200,000, then they get 800,000 tax free. The math used by the Huckabees camp is also misleading claiming that it would be a 23% sales tax when in fact it would be 30%. For example, if you bought an item that is typically a dollar you would pay 30 cents in sales tax. 30 cents is 30% of a dollar but only 23% of a1.30. Also, mosts economists (including a recent congressional study) agree that the number would likely have to be risen to 40-50% to meet government costs as an underground economy and saved money by the wealthy would underfund the country. The math seem pretty clear. The fair tax would be anything but fair.

The phony war on terror and the invasion of Iraq is nothing more than a smokescreen for the largest robbery in history by way of no-bid and unnecessary inflated contracts. Tell me how we are going to pay for the stupendous increase in the National Debt by the Bush/Cheney Fascist Criminal Enterprise and supported by the goose stepping, rubber stamping GOP, the RNC and it's many slithering brown shirts, and the brown shirt, rubber stamping poodle journalists. Shall we pay an additional tax of 105 per year for 10 years, 5% for 20 years or 2.5% for 40 years? I believe the interest on the ND is over $800,000,000,000 per year. W@ho pays-your children and grandchildren. Cut your own economic throat but do not cut the economic throat of the future generations.

But isn't that exactly what the entitlements programs are doing?? We, the generations after the BabyBoomers, are most likely never going to see Social Security..and yet we pay..and heaven help you if you actually try to have an intelligent conversation about it.

It's obvious that you have not read anything about the Fair Tax Program, if you had you would know it will help everyone, do your math. Are all journalist as ill prepared as you? That's the problem with media they just read part of the issue and then try to sway everyone to their side without all the facts.
You have people in society that let the media tell them what to think.
Then there are people who actually research and find the truth.
    Heres to the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can't wait till George Bush is history. He's a screw-ball for a President and are tired of all his lies. He's a disgrace to this country and the American people. He'll go down in history as the dumbest President ever, even worse than Nixon. He should be in jail for all the wrong he has done. Bush is an idiot and always will be and won't be remembered by us. What a LOSER!

For a columnist, you do not spend much time researching your topic do you? This piece is filled with factual errors. It is such a shame that a publication such as Newsweek allows such poor work.
