obama is a self serving racist re-breader - in his speech last night he sated he was a young organizer not that he was a human rights activist. He has on;y done for poor blacks and nothing for poor whites. Hillary serves all races as a true democrat. He is becoming a bit Dr King-esque draggggging every other words annunciation. Rdiculous. Telling voters what they would love to believe. And he is redundant in saying he would offer college for everyone - it already is for everyone...does he support affirmative action??? Unreal....stand up for a president who will serve us all and vote Clinton

Yeah, I'm sure Obama will pass legislation that says entitlements and social programs will only be available to black people. Be serious!

    • Posted By: wiseshopper1 @ 02/06/2008 10:28:11 PM

You gotta be kidding me...poor whites!?! I am an Indian and have had a lifetime of dealing with racism...mainly from white people. White males have historically had more options to succeed in this country and yet when a minority breaks through the barriers, white males try to say that it is at their expense. I for one am happy to see the democratic race come down to a white woman and a black man. I think Hillary is to pro special interest (check out all the money she gets from the lobbyists) and Obama is a bit inexperienced. However, I would be thrilled to have either one of them as it is refreshing to have someone other than a middle aged white guy (check out all the candidates on the republican side) as a candidate for President. As far as college being for everyone...get real. College is so out of reach for people that are impoverished...regardless of race. It is a myth that financial aid will pay their expenses. It took me 10 years to get my Bachelor degree because I worked my way through college. I knew many people who were in my situation and they ended up not getting a degree because the financial strain was too much. The reality is that this country isn't favorable to the working class. The democratic party, although very much entrenched in the politics of the status quo, is our best chance to see that the working class may actually find prosperity in the future. You sir, should be thrilled to have either democrat as president rather than continue to perpetuate racism under accusations that Obama hasn't helped the "poor whites."

I agree with you. I'm Panamanian/Italian. What you are saying is sooooo true. However, because Obama may be a little inexperience doesn't mean he can't do what he needs to do as president. That's partly why the cabin is needed. To help make good sound decisions. Look at Bush. His experience got the country all screwed up.

  • Posted By: dsprite @ 02/06/2008 11:47:12 PM

    Wow, it's amazing.
I'm a white, middle aged woman from NY. Lower income, higher intelligence. Some of the vitriol in these comments (either side) amazes me. Some of the persistant mis-information kind of has me scratching my head too.
I voted Bill into office. He did okay, but really ticked me off with some of his "plans" such as NAFTA, which we are really seeing the results of now. I voted Hillary into the senate, because she seemed to be the person for the job.
Hillary, however, has changed. Big business is now a leading friend of hers. She has become a real beltway insider... with all the connotations that do and don't go with that. I've found myself disappointed in the votes she has turned in time and time again. Her actions no longer follow her words.
See, THAT should be what we are voting on... do we want a president who pays lipservice to their own statements? Whose support can be bought? It just isn't for me. First let me hear what they said a few years ago. Let me see how they have supported those words with action, then let me hear what they are saying now. Changes in words aren't a problem. Any thinking person is constantly challenging their own beliefs, altering them as they learn new things. But, do they stand behind those beliefs? THAT is the crux of the issue at hand.
We should not be voting based on race, gender, or even religion (and for the information of all of those that haven't bothered to research it on impartial sites, or goodness forbid his own website, Obama has NEVER been a Muslim, never claimed to be a Muslim, and instead has been a Christian. He and his wife were married as Christians, baptized their children in that religion, and yes, still attend a Christian church.)
I will just finish with the fact that I will not be voting for Hillary this time. I no longer trust her.

Perhaps Obama would lose a general election because of color or inexperience. Perhaps the hatred Hillary engenders among Republicans would cause them all to come out to vote just to vote against her. Who can say? All I can do is vote for the person I believe will do the job best. After considering ALL candidates (not just Democratic) I do believe it would be Obama.

Just do us all a favor or two 1) Take the time to read each candidate's website to see what they are saying and planning to do as president and then research their voting history (yup, it takes time, but it's a part of being an informed citizen) 2) Actually get out and VOTE for the one you feel best represents your own interests... even if they might not fit into the labels you have on the box you call "President.."

I am black and young, 22f and I would never dream of voting for Obama!! His candidacy IS A JOKE. He had 4 years in the Senate that he did NOTHING with!!! He is a talking head. He looks nice in a suit, smiles big and gives rousing speeches!! but guess what?!! at the end of the day it takes a lot more than a speech to run this country. As a woman, a black person, and a young voter I am insulted by his candidacy and shocked at the amount of incompetent people who are voting for this guy! His whole candidacy is a fairy tale and Hillary has every right to call him everything. The media are pushing Obama up like he is a legitimate and he is not. This election season is really proving that most Americans do not do any research about candidates. As long they are nice guys they can be President. But it takes a lot more than a nice attitude to rule the free world. I am a moderate Democrat and like I said, black and young, but if Obama got the nomination I would vote for McCain.

    • Posted By: nicole493 @ 02/06/2008 11:46:26 PM

Help yourself go right ahead and vote for McCain. And by the way, what are you doing to help your community, local church, and country? I think you are too young to vote. You haven't look into all the details of all the candidates.

Hillary has a praoven track record. She is smart and knows how Washington works. She also represents all of the people not just the upper 20%. I thinks she would make a great president and John Edwards should be her running mate

You are young and 22 and need to do a little more research. I am a 42 year old young black women I have lived a lot longer than you and I'm ready for a change in this country. Obama is hope for our future. You think you know everything, you are only 22 and have not lived life long enough to understand. I'm sure your views would be different if you were a parent and had to pay for child care yourself. I guess you will never get anywhere in this world with little faith. You need to pray

      • Posted By: Mastersockmonkey @ 02/06/2008 11:45:54 PM

Why should he not run if he has the support to do so. How long would you work in a job if you were qualified to move up. This is our system. He is following it.

FYI! OBAMA has done alot for REAL PEOPLE! Working in communities devastated by Clinton's North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Hillary had NEVER been in the Hood/Ghetto/Projects to help unemployed people to gain jobs skills, help them find work and reduce crime. OBAMA saw injust and became a Civil Rights Lawyer graduating from Harvard... Taught Civil Law and U.S. Constitution Law in the #2 Law school in the world. OBAMA Saw injustice in the laws, so became a law maker to help create equality for people through effective legislation in the State Legislature for 8 years in Illinois. OBAMA Saw an opportunity to work on behalf of the people of Illinois thru election to the U.S. Senate for 4 years. Longer in Elected Offices than Bill Clinton before he became President, Longer than Hillary before she ran for office... and he is older than Bill Clinton or JFK when they were elected. So, it seems to be that OBAMA has devoted his LIFE to helping people lift their economic status and ensured equality. The majority of the
35 years of experience" that Hillary spouts was a Corporate Lawyer: She worked on laying people off, protecting corporate interests and note that ALL documents that Hillary worked on at her long-time Firm were destroy. She was the first FIRST-LADY to ever be under Criminal Investigation.

      • Posted By: Rinnovato @ 02/06/2008 10:28:53 PM

I would love to see Hillary Clinton go into the Projects, work for minimum wage and help people directly improve their lives.

overseas internet sites are running more intelligent info than in the us. At least they are being honest about Obama's Muslim heritage. Can you imagine what the Republicans will do it him? Here's a bit about his family. It sounds like they are all decent but I think it could get twisted very easily.

    http://www.dawn.com/2008/02/07/top8.htm
Although Mr Obama has not yet won the Democratic presidential nomination, he has run hard and fast with a baggage that would have forced a weaker soul to quit in the initial stages. Even a cursory glance at his handicaps shows how enormous were the hurdles he had to cross to reach where he is now.

Mr Obama is an African-American in a White-dominated society. He has a Muslim name ??? Barack Hussein Obama ??? and is the son of a Muslim African immigrant. His stepfather, an Indonesian, was also a Muslim. He lived in Indonesia, a Muslim-dominated state.

And Mr Obama???s opponents used all these, and much more, to bring him down as soon as he announced that he would seek nomination for the 2008 presidential election.

His Muslim heritage was considered particularly vulnerable at a time when many in the United States suffer from an acute ???Islamophobia???.

It was pointed out that while in Indonesia, he regularly said Friday prayers with other students of his school; that his step sisters were still Muslims and that he attended their weddings and stayed in touch with his extended Muslim family.

Although a Christian, Mr Obama never hid his Muslim background and discussed his Muslim links in his books and also in his speeches. He also spoke of calling a meeting of all Islamic nations to discuss the dispute that divided the Islamic and Western worlds, if elected.

And the results of Super Tuesday primaries show that American voters are more concerned with real issues ??? a dismal economy, an un-winnable war in Iraq, immigration and environment ??? than what the fear-mongers tried to sell to them.

This article and the media are infuriating me. It is the media that is making this a racial, age, gender
divide. Now there is only endless analysis of the demographics related to race. I realize this is a political and strategy issue, but it is totally against Mr. Obama's philosophy. He doesn't just seek the Black vote.
He isn't pandering to them. Has everyone forgotten that his mother was white?? I just hate the media
    now creating a racial divide.

how are we gona trust clinton as president from day one while she voted for war from day one?

    • Posted By: Phillyforever @ 02/06/2008 9:44:01 PM

She voted for the war based on the lies that were handed to her and the rest of congress by Bush. Obama was not in the Senate at the time of the vote, so even though he repeats over and over that he did not support the war, he was not privy to the same information and Hillary, John Edwards or anyone else who voted on Iraqi resolution. Also at that time the majority of Americans were also for the war. Funny how people have a selective memory.

      • Posted By: jacklq @ 02/06/2008 11:37:29 PM

So, are you actually saying that "Bush" was able to pull the wool over "her" eyes? NAWWW... not w/all of that "experience"! The rest of congress; I could believe, but not HER! She's much smarter than that -Right?

      • Posted By: MARISA76 @ 02/06/2008 10:58:28 PM

This is true people do have selective memory on this issue, 911 just happend and we wanted revenge to ease our pain we felt. I was for the war we were vulnarable. But as the war went on and our soldiers were dying and we found out that there was not any weapons and it was all for special interest...Our country started being Anti War.... Barack has many great things to say his speeches are uplifting for may americans hope is a thrive and I belive america is not really seeing the whole picture. Yes we want change but we want it to be right . Barack/hillary pretty much share the same issues but there is 1 canidate with the most experience! I see it as Hillary. ask these young voters what programs obama has put together what laws did he help make what type of foriegn affairs has he been involved in. Does it matter to them or are they riding the bama ban wagon. His I have a Dream speeches will only get him so far. He always makes the comment as to its important to be right on day one . Yes it is but Obama has not been put in major decision making yet. At his last speech he said there will be mistakes made but we will learn from them...So why does he keep reminding everyone that hillary voted for the war ... She learned from the fraud& false information given to her by our current president. Every media , talkshow host has bashed Bill Clinton for his comments on Obama"s promise's and what he intends to change for our country. I believe Bill is only explaining to us what is really possible and what is reality .He has been in the white house. If anyone can tell us a thing or two Then why not a man who has been our president for a full term. Maybe we should stop and listen to someone who has had the job .AMERICA REMEMBER CHANGE COMES WITH EXPERIANCE!!!!!!!

As a fellow lawyer, I sat in my dining room and argued with many friends about how illegal a preemptive war is. Hillary is also a lawyer. She also was a First Lady and claims that gives her superior foreign policy experience.

Obama, myself, and plenty of other Americans did not feel it was right to go to war in Iraq. But Hillary voted expediently, with the majority - looking forward to this election day.

She just didn't expect the war to be such a failure, nor public opinion to change so drastically.

We don't all have selective memories, but listening to Hillary in the debates, she sure does.

Is The U.S.A. Ready For A African American President?

I know some good people who are african american. They too feel that the african american people will read to much into the president being black. They believe if we have a black president then the african american people run the country(or their country). We may not feel this way-sure- but most african american people do.
You may not think this is true- but do you listen to their leaders, music or them?
Please check out this youtube video.
If you still do not think this is happening check out one of their web sites.(see below).

It amazing me that you think you know what african american people think. Have you spoke with the majority of african american people here in the US? I don't think so, and what ever is on YOU TUBE is posted by a very select few. And when did the US become a particular ethnic groups country? Apparently you don't believe in the words "UNITED States" you feel the need to keep the ethnicity of all americans seperate and feel comfortable passing judgement. The more things change the more they stay the same. What ashame.

Thank goodness, the press is doing a terrible job because they do not want to be accused of racism and that is why they are not scrutinizing Obama's candidacy. As for me , a naturalized American , all the noise about Obama reminds me of the title of a Shakespeare's play : MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. I suspect many democrats are voting more on sentiments and emotions than on reason and that is dangerous.

Obama, while you have been Illinois senator the cost of gas (4-homes) has gone up almost 30%, electric bills have gone up almost 30%, phone bills have gone up almost 30%. While you were supposed to be at work- working for us, you were on Oprah promoting your book. In Illinois, cars older than 95 are no longer required to test emissions, Chicago schools are in severely poor condition, and the list goes on. If you can't handle the job of senator, why should anyone vote for you?

    • Posted By: Mastersockmonkey @ 02/06/2008 11:36:14 PM

Barack caused all of that? Hmm... I don't think so.

Electability is the #1 issue for me. I am concerned about how Obama will fare against the Republican attack machine and their race-baiting tactics. Hillary being a Clinton concerns me too. Clintons seem to arouse passions amongst Republicans. I'm praying for a brokered convention with the possibility of the nomination going to Gore. Otherwise I fear a McCain presidency.

  • Posted By: Th3Nephilim @ 02/06/2008 11:35:24 PM

VOTE RON PAUL! None of the Republicans could really sey anything about bringing our troops home AND ENDING The IRAQ WAR... They ALL basically said they couldn't make any promises as to when they could do anything about ending the war.... Whats that all about?

This by far is one of the most ignorant comments I have read on this board thus far. I am black and educated and the only people that make comments such as yours and probably the "good african american people" you know, can be classified not by race but by their level of intelligence - ignorant. Grow up! More white people listen to "our" music, and listen to our leaders then we do. Afterall if we are the minority then who is the paying these rappers, etc. all this money.
I would think that in the year 2008 society in general would have more sense then to think that a black president would mean that black people would somehow get preferential treatment. What about his mother. She was white. Wait most everyone in congress and every president has been white, So do whites get preferential treatment as a result? Why yes, and that is what you fear most isn't it. That you will be called to the table for your prejudices as long as they worked in your favor. Again grow up, there is still plenty of blue-bloods in congress to oppose any true changes Barack could bring as president. I am sure there are plenty Jeb Bushes waiting to fudge the ballots to ensure he doesn't win. But you are scared though aren't you. YEAH!!!

  • Posted By: maa1940 @ 02/06/2008 9:10:13 PM

Contrary to what was written here by slo88, I beleive if Obama wins we will finally get our Country back to the values we all hold dear in the United States. Watch how directly both he and his wife answer questions instead of side-stepping them as most politicians do. The only side-stepping you will see them do is a refusal to stoop to insults or black-balling of the Clintons. Michelle Obama said that if you make a practice of playing games in your political life, it will carry over into your personal life adn that she and her husband refuse to go down that road. Don't be afraid to vote for this honest and moral man.

    • Posted By: justmeinArk @ 02/06/2008 10:52:42 PM

To maa1940, what morals?? This Man is a muslim and does not respect or get involved in many American traditions. Maybe He plans on throwing them out the door! You'll have something "new" then!

      • Posted By: all_about_truth @ 02/06/2008 11:29:42 PM

Where do you people get this bogus information from. Mr. Obama is not a Muslim, nor has he ever been a Muslim. I think that perhaps you are using that lie as an excuse not to consider him and it may be for other reasons other than the lie about him being Muslim. He is a Christian and has always been a Christian and has attended church all of his life. It Today must be the day for the idiot revolution.

      • Posted By: Mastersockmonkey @ 02/06/2008 11:19:06 PM

I love how tools of the far right neo-cons like to make this claim but can't offer up any evidence. What if he's not Muslim? Is he okay then? Are you afraid to do the research out of fear you might be wrong? You can't come up with any good reason to hate so you have to make up stuff to hate people for.
