The one thing I learned early on with the Bush administration was: When George W. Bush makes a statement like, "We don't torture!" The opposite is more than likely the truth. There were more pictures other than those of Abu Graib, and according to Rumsfeld those pictures would have been more devastating to the American reputation around the world.
The "rosey" picture of a "robust and vibrant" economy painted by Bush all through 2007 has now "tanked" in early 2008 and needs another foreign loan to stimulate a debt that will soon be 10 trillion dollars. Talk about torture...... this will torture Americans for years and years to come!

    Ditto to Kingrook,

If Bush and Cheney continue to have it their way, you will see Bush give an executive order on his way out the door that will protect himself and Cheney from prosecution under the guise of national security . Total BS politics as usual

I would like to see the whole outgoing administration moved to Iraq and live there for the next 20 years.

I want someone in an ICC nation to offer both Idiots some award so they can be arrested and sent to the Hague for trial. Let's see if the Republican "Invade Holland" amendment gets acted upon.

The question is: By our actions, are we, the United States moving toward barbarism or toward higher civilization? The choice is ours. The rationalization for either is irrelevant.

CIA and U.S. military, you guys do what you have to do, to keep me safe and happy in Illinois. Some of you people out there should really quit thinking terrorist's deserve rights, because if the terrorists had their way you would be muslim or dead. And then, how many rights would you have? none.

KRK105 - consider this before you say "you guys do what you have to do, to keep me safe and happy in Illinois" ... turns out a lot of the people being swept up as terrorists were innocent people, turned in by other sects, as revenge or for political gain - others were "sold" to the CIA in Afghanistan and Iraq ... would you consent to torture of innocent people? Your comment implies as much. Remember also: do unto others, what you would have done to yourself. If you're willing to be water-boarded, then you are entitled to your comment and opinion. If you aren't, then you are a hypocrite. ALSO: every study to date has shown (and the FBI will confirm this) that torture does not result in credible information. Torture victims will say anything to "make them stop the pain". THINKABOUDIT.

Wrong on the US military. Wrong. The Geneva conventions prohibit it. As far as the CIA, they are on their own. I do not believe it is ever necessary or that you get facts. I was also trained at SERE. It was described as torture then. Wrong Wrong Wrong. It is not about rights. It is about law. The Rule of Law.
Not the decrees of an simpleton or his evil VP Cheney.

Not only are we talking about rule of law here, we're talking about keeping any kind of moral high ground. Torture is what evil empires do. It's what totalitarians do. It's what out-of-control dictators do. The principles of human dignity were ours to defend as the leaders of the free world. The US is now in serious danger of ceding that high ground and we will pay for it in the coming years. We have ZERO credibility on that issue, thanks to Bush and Cheney.

The reason the US agreed to international bans on such torture was that they were used by our enemies in WW2 and Korea and Vietnam. My father was a WW2 POW who was tortured by the Nazis. John McCain ( and I"m not a big fan of his anymore) is vehemently opposed to torture - guess why, he was a victim. It's not that the terrorists have rights or not - it's that we have to obey international law or we can't expect anyone to - no matter who they are. And, even the CIA has admitted that torture doesn't work - it gets people to say anything to make it stop. Just look at the people who have "confessed" to crimes they didn't commit just so they could get some sleep or go to the bathroom. The CIA has also said that the torture of the 3 they admit to did not in reality stop any "event" since the immenent danger was bogus anyway. The Bush administration can make up any "threat of danger' they want to keep spying on us and destroying the Constitution.

Moral high ground? Say anything? where are you people from? I have spent the last years of my life chasing these people with at least 4 somewhere else. The beleive it is perfetly acceptable to kill you, your family, and anyone else who may be near as long as they get you. They will kill you solely because you beleive in a god which is differnet than theirs. The difference can be as slight as eye or hair color, they don't care. As long as your god is different in any way shape or form than theirs you are an Infidel and killing you is acceptable in the eyes of their god. They believe driving a truck full of explosives into an elementary school is justified if even one person in that school is an infidel. The others are only matyrs to the cause. You obviously do not comprehend the fanaticism of these people. Given the opportunity they will kill your child openly on the street for reason such they are Shia you are Sunni. Imagine if the Amercian people condoned the open killing of baptist by catholics. This terror is coming it is only a matter of time. Then you will begging the US government to do anything, anything at all to stop it before your family is killed in a car bomb outside of Walmart.
Waterboard them, electricute them, what ever I dont care they are a plague on the whole world. Spain, Britian, Pakistan, Phillipines, Thailand, all are suffering these attacks. Why are there none on US soil?
I have seen their work with my own eyes and the devastation it causes, I pray my son will never have to live the way they do.
And yes I went to SERE too, so what? The Hague and even the Geneva Conventions were written in a world where they beleived in you could fight a war and still play like gentlemen. And the earth is flat.
On soldiers opinion, not that the US congress gives two sh**s about the soldiers, just steroids and halloween costumes.
I would line up B52s wing tip to wing tip if that what it would take to eradicate this disease from the earth

The fact that a discussion about waterboarding even exists is a reflection of the level of depravity to which we have sunk in this nation. Where is the public outcry against these criminals?

Bill Clinton said he would have used the technique in a "ticking time bomb" scenario if it were to get information to save lives. So why don't the liberals mention his statement?

    • Posted By: Braes @ 02/07/2008 10:15:30 AM

Bill Clinton is only liberal if your personal alignment is fascism. See the Middle way or Moderate. I do not look to Mr. Clinton's presidency as a hallmark for military affairs. Since you need to drag Clinton to defend Bush, your argument is comparing two imbeciles with respect to military experience.

  • Posted By: kingrook @ 02/07/2008 8:28:34 AM

There is no law in this country except "Bush" law.

  • Posted By: Karenn1 @ 02/07/2008 7:51:24 AM

Since when don't fascists use torture.More lies, and the troops keep getting kill. Now the troops if capture have torture to look forward too.
