Howard you really are an idiot sayin that romney has no class where in the heck are you getting your sources the democatics. Romney addited in talk shows and in debates that he was not perfect and that he has made mistakes and was wrong about things. so I think your the one who needs to take a long look in the mirror and see who needs to get class.

For what it's worth, I offer this observation. I was in my shop working a couple of weeks ago and I had the TV on behind me. The two speakers at different rallys, were McCain and Romney. I honestly don't know much about either. But here's my personal feeling based, admittedly, on a single 15 minutes of dialogue. Romney did not sound sincere! I'm for neither and have no axe to grind . . . it's simply what I was left with when it was over.

Amen to DJFrog71! Bigotry is alive and well in this country. I made phone calls on behalf of Mitt's campaign With Supporters that were Mormons and of other Faiths...we were all shocked at the blatant comments on why they would not vote for this most qualified Man to run for President was because he is a Mormon. Shame on all the voters who are so ignorant and judgemental. just like the aothor of this peice of crap article!

This most qualified Man, who has never come within a thousand miles of a real battelfied, ridiculed another man's war medals (remember John Kerry?). This most qualified Man from Utah, in defense of the Family, opposes families of loving, committed partners who share the same gender. This Man, like so many others, wraps himself up in the flag only to embarrass himself and many other Right-thinking people.

Mitt is from Michigan not Utah. His father was Gov. of Mich. He now lives in Mass. and was the Gov. Their. I can tell you really know a lot about the man.

I'm all for Huckabee and I am not a Baptist.

What does religion have to do with it anyway?
Oh, maybe it's because this country was founded upon Judeo/Christian principles, and that is what has made America a great country. And if we trash all those great principles, this great country will just go down the toilet.
Perhaps religion may just play a part in this election afterall.
Mitt Romney couldn't win the south and neither could McCain because of Evangelical/Protestant Christians period!

I agree Canada. Also the bigot comments about Howard...spot on.

Howard, you dunce! Romney has more class in his pinky than you will ever have. Romney has real world experience and an unblemished personal life. You're just a petty, creepy, Sid Blumenthal wannabe, right down to the haircut. Romney showed real class and ran a great campaign. He's no loser and I would be grateful to have someone of his proven ability and integrity as president. Can you state, Mr. Fineman, that the messiah from Illinois is more "real" than Romney? Is Madam Hillary more "genuine" and experienced than Romney? My guess is that you and your fellow liberals believe so. Romney has more class than you will ever have. You're just a snarking wallflower who has got to tear down far greater men to get someone to pay attention to you. It's sickening.

Romney lost in part because of his religion, this is a sad fact and cannot be denied. If he were a Christian, like Huckabee, the far right wing would of embraced him, sad but true. Additionally Romney paid the price for changing his views on important social issues, for the religious right we are of course talking about his stance change on abortion (among other things). You can hear the whispers from the religious right, you hear it in the work place, and you see it in the blogs.

Take heart though, Republicans and Romney supporters, the sad truth is that the next president is being set up to fail and fail hard. This opens the door for Republicans to retake the White House in 2012 and take it decisively.

I'm not a Romney supporter by any stretch of the imagination, at the same time I do feel bad for all Republican candidates this year, they are being set up to fail.

As I read articles in the newspaper and other periodicals I have been accustomed to the bias opinions of so called journalists that have lost the ability to be objective. As I read the subject article by Howard Fineman, I shook my head yet again. This time, I feel the need to fire back a few words. First, to say "he ended up standing for nothing but his own ambition" as if this man who has nothing to prove to himself or anyone else, is absurd. I will start be saying he is not perfect, who is? Certainly not Howard. Certainly not John McCain who is by all standards an American Hero but read about his involvement with the S&L debacle. Mitt Romney has shown nothing but class. Humble when he wins and gracious when he looses.

Howard, comments such as "Even as conservative radio talk-show hosts reluctantly settled on him as their savior" or calling him a "soulless throat-cutter" are so very far off that it is easy for me to question your integrity. Howard ask Mitt what integrity is.

And to say "He didn't know enough about national politics" is the icing on the liberal media cake that I will never eat. The guy was Governor (Regan was Governor before holding the most Prestige Office), he turned around Mass better than any Democrat has ever done and certainly better than our current Deval Patrick and he did it with a Democratic Legislature. So yes he may not have gotten everything he wanted to do done. But he worked well with the Democratic legislature. Unlike Patrick. That might be a quality we need in the White House. Am I right on that Howard? He ran the Olympics. Yes Howard he brought countries together. Good quality to have as a President? I would say so. Oh, and he turned around a corrupt Olympics that almost fell apart. And he did it in a short period of time. Another good quality Howard?

You may not agree with him. You may not like him. That is fine because we are in the USA. But don't RIP him. Have some respect for a guy that is as American as they come.

It is not your writing skills that need work Howard. It is your judgement skills.

Give Mitt to us in Canada - we're in the market for a superb leader and he'd have been one. The Anti-Romney crowd are proving what the world already thinks of Americans.

Just watched Mitt's speech. Fascinating; With nothing left to lose, Mitt used a political pulpit to give essentially a religious speech. Under the biggest spotlight of his campaign, he talked about family, the role of traditional marriage, and renouncing pornography. The left will never forgive this.

And, ironically, this is the exact opposite of what Huckabee did with his campaign. Huckabee used religion and a talent for preaching to advance politically.

So Mitt Romney finally stands up to be counted and, in the end, proves to be the truly authentic conservative. Who knew.

Fineman, you are a bigot. There's just no other way to say it. I have watched every candidate closely in this race, read a lot about them, watched every debate, and practically every interview for a solid year. I have watched you and read you all year long. You have always been wrong about Romney. You've called him a phony, a flip-flopper.

There is no bigger flip-flopper than John McCain. He's in the process of flip-flopping right now at the Conservative Political Action Conference in D.C. What a phony! I used to love John McCain, but I have no respect for the way he has treated Gov. Romney for the past year.

You said of Romney: "... he also was damaged by a factor over which he had no control and, to his credit, he didn't seek to mute--his Mormonism." Don't pander now that it's over. You hated him for three reasons: 1) He's a Mormon, 2) He???s wealthy, and 3) He's smarter than you are. In fact, Gov. Romney is brilliant. McCain hates Romney for the same reasons.

You said: "Romney left the campaign trail to attend the funeral in Salt Lake that may have damaged him on the eve of Super Tuesday." No, it didn't damage him with fair-minded citizens. People would have disrespected him, had he not attended. Romney knows who he is; it is McCain who is out there right now trying to define himself.

I love Gov. Romney and I would have voted for him, if Hillary was nominated. By the way, I am a 63-year-old White woman, single parent, professional woman, Roman Catholic, and a Democrat, who is voting for Senator Obama. Oh, and by the way, I also know how economies are built, and how jobs come, and how they go.

Mr Fineman is a classic fool. Mitt has more substance than you wll ever amount to.

Romney "came off" as a "phony" to liberals like Howard Fineman, who for as long as he has been at Newsweek has tried to pass himself off as an unbiased "journalist." When are you ever going to hear Fineman call the messiah from Illinois a phony for having no record to speak of and passing himself off as having "experience" to lead this country? The answer: never. When will you hear Fineman call Hillary a phony based on her history of lying and exaggerating her so-called thirty-five years of "experience"? Answer: never. Mr. Romney may have bowed-out because getting the needed delegates was now mathmatically impossible, but Romney has led a state and successful businesses and has a track record that would be the envy of most Americans. He has also got an unblemised personal life. Fineman is a world-class phony and he should just stick to bloviating on "Hardball" and don't tell us who is or is not a phony. What a complete loser. He is just a Sid Blumenthal "wannabe."

You are a fool, Howard. You wouldnt know a decent man if he fell on you. M itt Romney has more class & deceny in his little finger than you could ever hope to have. He will be our president in 2012 and you'll still be just a has-been political hack. Idiots like you need to find lines of work they re better suited for. You seem perfecley suited to empty port-a-pottys..after extensive training, that is. Maybe McCain will let you empty the pottys on his tour bus. PERFECT for you!!!! And you'd love it!

Great, now we get to pick between a fake Republican who sided with Ted Kennedy on an "immigration" bill that was so lop-sided that it was embraced by a Mexican organization that wants to take Texas back from the United States, or one of two hippies that want to govern the country with their own brand of anti-business, anti-christian, anti-military European Socialism.

  • Posted By: Skiraker @ 02/07/2008 5:59:15 PM

Mr. Fineman has spent too much time with hate monger Keith Doberman. Left wing versions of Wally George. A joke at the expense of our national security, and prosperity.
It's a sad day for America when our choice for President is limited to liberal, more liberal and most liberal.
Maybe it is time for a third party to emerge.

    • Posted By: LetsReason @ 02/07/2008 7:06:03 PM

I suspect a lot of the reason that the country seems bent on heading liberal, more liberal or most liberal is due to eight years of a conservative George Bush. Personally, I am very moderate with leanings to both sides, depending on the issue. But Bush, whoa!, is NO argument to continuing voting Conservative or in favor of a religious right. Reagan was a decent president who could convince us that he was a GREAT president, but you know what? The deficit grew astronomically under him. Clinton was an unfaithful ass that I would not trust personally, but you know what? The US experienced a budget in the black for the first time in a LONG time.

I think we really need to vote on practicality and stop worrying about some of the more superficial ideals.

Romney will not be the Republican nominee because of anti-Mormon bigotry by Huckabee and his so called " christian " supporters. These small minded people who claim Mormons and Catholics are not "real ' christians have all but assured a Democratic victory in Nov. God Bless Mitt. ...a class act.
