I have to do some research about your persoal life to find out what kind of human being would judge Mitt as soulless, someone who will do or say anything to win. Sir, you just described Mccain and Huckabee. They are the one who spread lines. conducted Robo calls (traced back to the Huckabee campaign) and engaged in backroom dealings. How preposterous your article and how biased your judgement. Mitt is the best we've had for decades in moral, intellectual strength. When it comes down to it. he is TOO GOOD for America. They do not see a good man because they themselves lead immoral lives.

What I don't undertstand from the whole article is why the author apparently does not believe that people have the ability to change. I have always voted republican, but I am now for Obama.

TESTPATTERN...it's MORMON, you MORON. I am a MORMON and your statement about our view of heaven shows your ignorance concerning MORMONS. Do a little more research.

There is a reason people have come to despise the media and this article is a good example. How many delegates have been chosen? HALF! But the media is determined to choose the candidate for us. You guys already chose Giuliani for us. Then you chose Huckabee for us. Now you are choosing McCain for us. Why do you just f___ off?

testpattern, that was one of the most grammatically and doctrinally idiotic responses I've ever heard. Learn to spell correctly and create sentences before saying anything. First, you're discriminating against a religious group...I guess you're a real American... Second, you don't even know their doctrine. Do everyone a favor and go back to elementary school. ----As for the article, it wasn't because he ran a bad campaign that he lost. Its because America still doesn't believe in not discriminating. America is dying and Australia is looking really good about now

I really liked Mitt Romney ever since I read the first profile of him in Newsweek I thought "There is a guy who knows how to get things done". I have been a supporter from the beginning. I attended rallies, had bumper stickers, and anxiously watched all the speeches and debates. Now with his campaign suspended I don't know who to support. My heart is broken.

I did not understand why he wasted his ads attacking Hillary saying she never managed anything. At this point he was not running against her---a Democratic challenger would come later if he got the Republican nod. His ads did not convey much of who or what he was--and in some circles could have cost him more--as women still don't have the same opportunity as men in perhaps managing or leading things. My opinion about Mrs. Clinton --I am not for her or against her--but she was doind things as a woman--in a time when--60's and 70's --women could still not use sick time for pregnancy. I could not be a computer operator since I was a woman--and that job led to the leadership and management positions---I am not that crazy about her--but she did many things for a woman before her time---or before women's time---so Romney looks stupid on that count--and I would have liked him much more and perhaps voted for him if he had not taken this stupid route.

Its pathetic to realize people didn't vote for him just because he is a Mormon. Its truly sad when a country, based on the supposed concept of liberty, discriminates even today. Why don't you people go hang Obama while you're at discriminating and every other minority....my argument is America is dead...Australia doesn't look too bad...

I perceive that Romney drove his campaign off a cliff. If Romney had run with the same (or nearly the same) positions he'd held as Governor of Massachusetts, i.e., as a moderate Republican, he may have had a chance to let his real capabilities shine. But by veering "hard right", he seemed weirdly disingenuous to moderates. And his notion that he could capture the vote of the Religious Right was grossly naïve. Religious bigotry dies hard, especially for those who are convinced that there is only one true faith, and that they own the rights to it and all its language. Romney was cut with the double-edged sword of "true believers" myopic self-righteousness. It's a group of voters he should not have pandered to (witness Iowa) and could have done without (witness McCain). If Romney had professed himself as personally a social conservative, yet with a willingness to govern from the center, he'd be the nominee. His credentials are too strong to be overlooked. But because he ran as a hard-right candidate, neither his credentials nor his religion fit the bill.

His campaign strategist made a tragic mistake.

And worse, it's probably a non-recoverable error. If Romney tries to run next time as a moderate, everyone will skewer him. If he tries to run as a "hard-right", he'll lose again for the same reasons. Too bad, too. Based on his record, he probably has what it takes to bring some sense to our economic mess and broken government.

To Utah Republicans: What has the republican party ever done for you? you are laughed at, cursed at, and have lies spread about you. The best candidate has ben snuffed out in part because he failed hte religous party. The Republican party represents only a few beliefs and will not accept any other. Again, what has your party done for you?

  • Posted By: dellhell @ 02/07/2008 4:50:23 PM

I agree with Howard. I have kept saying that Romney is an immature politician. Our democracy wants representatives of people, but not some slick liar who "standing for nothing but his own ambition." Correct!

McCain is not beloved by those REAL hardcore conservatives, but he is perfect to run for the white house. Because he can be a REAL problem solver!

  • Posted By: Global Cooling @ 02/07/2008 4:38:19 PM

Last I checked Romney never invoked religion or criticized Huckabee's as Huckabee and his surrogates disgustingly did (Huckabee implicitly with his "Satan's brother" comment; his surrogates explicitly with their constance dirty tactics, push-polling, and robo-calling). Additionally, no other state voted for Bush Jr. (an evangelical) in greater numbers than did Utah last election--in fact, they abandoned one of their own, Sen. Hatch's, to elect Bush in 2000.

Say what you want about Mormons' claims of Christianity, but at least with regard to the way Romney conducted himself vis-a-vis Huckabee, you wouldn't know that, between the two, Huckabee was the true "Christian"--by their fruits you shall know them...

I love my country, I love the South, and I love the GOP, but Huckabee personifies every accurate criticism of what is wrong in the GOP and the South.

"True Christian?" How do you define a Christian? A Christian is a believer in Jesus Christ, that by his grace we are saved. That is 100% Mormon belief. Huck and Romeny are both Christians, just different sects of Christianity.

Mormons have voted for evangelical presidents, so why will they not vote for a Mormon? I ask Mormons "what has the republican party done for you?" Utah is one of the republican strong holds and yet gets no respect from their own party. instead the party and the media snuff out the most capable, highly educated and successful candidates. have you all seen Mitt's YouTube videos from the recent past?!: flipped on choice, flipped on gun-rights, flipped on gay rights/gay marriage, flipped on "reagan supporter", flipped on govt created health-care(he created the program with Ted K. amoung others), flipped on taxes/fee increases..the list goes on!

It is difficult to convince your party base and more to vote for you when you only reach your political puberty at the age of 60!!

good bye Mr. Romney--go back to your board-room drawing board!

If the best the Republicans can do is allow John McCain to represent them. Then the Republicans get what they deserve. McCain has know idea how to fix the economy, too weak on his policy to deal with illegal immigration and is just not sharp enough to take the lead in the 21st Century.
Nothing personal, McCain has been a great american, but I just don't think that military experience alone is enough to correct the mess America is in. By the way, has anyone heard any comments from either party about our oil/gas pricing problems? The answer is no. Now that there is a push for green products and conservation, it is not a topic for discussion while the oil company executives will have another 10 years to line their pockets. Can we say Lobbyists!!!

There's probably a reason why there have only been 2 senators in history that went on to be POTUS. Senators do not make the best presidents. Now we're stuck with a senator turned president unless McCain dies between now and November. Actually, now that I think about it, at 72 there's not that bad of a chance of that happening.

As a Huck fan, I congratulate Mitt fans for a well fought battle. I do think it was too soon after Mitt's previous positions for him to convince enough folks he was a conservative. However, he convinced enough to become the VP. See, this helps Rush and Sean and all of them save face if Mac offer the VP slot to Mitt. They can then pretend they did have influence and Mac did have come over to their way of thinking. Mac would gladly do this to get that free radio support from them. (Or he might not trust them to get it as many think they want to the GOP to lose for their ratings sake.) Mitt may not want the VP slot, hoping Mac loses anyway so he, Mitt, can run in 2012.

Whw!!! Man!!! So much hatred and anger is felt troughout this entire article. I must assume that the author was really scared and threatened by Mitt Romney's campaign. To end this article by saying "rest in peace" just nails it on the head on how the media was on the attack. Who brought him down here the media not Romney's campaign.
