Comment: You are so miss leaded by your own blinded prejudice, that you can't see a good man when he
stands in front of you. Politics are hard enough with out mindless liberal News people standing
on the side line continually trying to take every opportunity to demean and find fault in someone who
has true character . The reason his campaign failed is because of people in the News media like you.
Every step of the campaign trail instead of just reporting the news, you twisted the truth to where there
was no truth to any thing you wrote. How can our Country survive and our Life as we know it when the
the people such as youself try and destroy a Man who has decency and character. You young man don't
even have the character to stop swinging when a man graciously announces defeat and supports his
opponent. for the sake of his Country.

This is all so much garbage. The media had it out for Romney aas did the anti-Mormon bigots. Huckabee only stuck it out to act as spoiler for Romney, since heaven forbid we had a Mormon in the White House to siphon off any more Baptist converts, since no conservative in their right mind would have voted for McCain. So the Republican party can sleep in the bed they made and I look forward to watching the Democrats make them wash the sheets after they wet them in November. The loss they'll experience in this presidential election will be no less embarrassing, regardless if it's Clinton or Obama.

I agree with Mr. Fineman. Romney ran as a politician, which he is not. He is just a businessman trying to get a four year lease on White House using his own money in this auction. At least the others are running using funds from people who believe in them. Hillary is now using her own money but I respect that because she is backing up peoples investment with her own money. Romney started up with his own money as the seed. Pure business approach. We need a leader in WH not a business manager. This is a happy day for America. Lets drink to it.

You are too hard on Mitt Romney. Give him a break. He has courage and integrity. You really don't know the guy.

By saying "dumbest of republicans" you are saying that some republicans arent dumb which is ridiculous. Unless your comment was joke. if it was i found it very amusing.

Ouch, Mr. Fineman is brutal and it seems a little personal. I don't agree with all he says, but I was dissappointed in Romney's inability to speak inspirationally about his strengths of character and his ability to bring people together in a liberal state to accomplish so much.

Unfortunately, Matt S reminds us that the religious bigotry that still exists in 2008 probably doomed Romney from the beginning anyway.

What a terrible column. To say this is more media bias is to state the obvious. Romney is a "phoney" while Juan McCain is the "genuine article"? That would be an insult coming from anyone other than Howard Fineman. Mr. Fineman, why don't you save us all some time and endorse Hillary Clinton right now while you're at it? That would be genuine!

There's nothing wrong with attending an honorable man's funeral. Religious or not, any person would agree with that.

America has lost a great leader that would save us form McClain, Hillary and of all people Obama. The next four years everyone will wish they had voted for a true American that would save our country

Ouch! Mr. Fineman is brutal, but I have to agree with him. Every time I watched Romney, he seemed to not show his strengths in finding ways to bring people together to solve problems and get things done. I expected a more inspiring candidate, but found him often falling short when bickering with McCain. Unfortunately, people like Matt S. show us that there is still a lot of religious bigotry that probably doomed Romney from the beginning anyway.

The tone of this article again demonstrates the shackles that Governor Romney has had to run in throughout his campaign. The efforts by many in the media to hold him to a different standard than other candidates, apparently because he was clearly better in so many ways, has left me saddened for the state of news reporting. One can only hope that the biased and sometimes bigoted reporting would be filtered out of the whole process by real men and women of character. Otherwise, let's face it, everything won't always magically work out for us as a country. We already face huge challenges that need focused attention. The process of selecting our leadership is a great privilege and should be handled with more respect. I've followed this presidential race from the beginning and studied each candidate carefully. I was won over by the credentials, work-ethic, and qualities of Mitt Romney. My research allowed me to easily see the smear jobs done by other candidates and some of the media. Most people probably didn't do their due diligence and were unfortunately led like sheep, ingesting whatever they were fed and letting it become part of them. Many bloggers would state things like, "There must be something wrong with Romney because all of the other candidates don't seem to like him". What nonsense. Those who were watching closely saw the truth, which was that the momentum of Romney would have been unstoppable if allowed to grow. There was an effort by other candidates to slow him and a deliberate collusion by certain ones to de-rail him. For those of you who will be quick to come up with canned lines about why he really lost, just save it. As I say, I've followed from the start and watched as the underhanded tactics developed. Some of you may sincerely believe some of the tripe because you were busy with your life and could only catch bits and pieces here and there. But, some of us weighed out positions and listened to the candidates personally, not by just listening to those who would shape opinions in a deliberately inaccurate way. I actually didn't choose Romney until I was certain he was the best available. Of course you may have done the same and chosen someone else, which is great. But, if you don't like Romney and you are a Republican, then I would say there is at least a 90% chance you fell prey to the opposition's brainwashing tactics like other sheep. Some seem so easily influenced by such low handed negativity. And to think they were so quick to paint Romney's comparison ads as negative! All the while there were a couple of candidates talking out of both sides of their mouth, pretending to not be negative but continually telling lies about Romney and using some of the most dirty political tricks learned during their 'public service'. We have to work with what we have now. Let???s bring out the best in McCain, and hold him to a standard. By the way, the margin of the popular vote was relatively close. Go Romney

This article hit the nail right on the head. The tragedy of the Romney campaign is not that he was a bad candidate, but that he campaigned badly. Many of us were concerned about his policy movements, and squirmed as he played twister trying to get to the right positon on every issue.

McCain, Huckabee, and Paul also have policy problems, but they seem to genuinely follow their policies in spite of the criticism. The irony is that Romney did what the talk show leaders wanted. He lined himself up perfectly with Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, et al. You can't overstate the importance of being genuine.

This just supports that the media annointed Mccain and many took the bait.

  • Posted By: rthrash3 @ 02/07/2008 2:56:05 PM

The only thing Mr. Romney is a victim of is the media. He may have moved to more conservative positions, but I believe he did this for personal values, not political ambition. However, the media didn't portray it that way. What the media did, what the media does, is support the moderates in the Republican party and anyone in the Democratic party. Just a simple review of the headline wording alone reveals how many positive comments were given to Romney vs McCain. It's simply stunning.

It amazes me how much media influences the presidential election these days. Simply stunning. Mr. Fineman, a long-time Romney-hater has yet to publish a positive piece on him. He and other liberal media outlets have the voice and in an era where he and others can speak to an electorate who can't find Iraq on a map, they hold the real power.

Hey Howard, I didn't realize you could be such an ass so as to completely mischaracterize Romney, all the while calling McCain and Huckabee the "genuine article." Even the dumbest of Republicans would have an uproarious laugh at that one. You know your comments come from a bias that has absolutely nothing to do with Mitt Romney himself. This article is a joke.

  • Posted By: abbydoeh @ 02/07/2008 2:51:02 PM

Are you kidding? God, family, country???? Romneys not running for the church or husband of the year, he's running for US our country!! Personally I want to see someone put everything aside but their job when it comes to the presidency, it's not a 9 to 5 gig. I dont care if they are getting shots takin with their dog, or quality time with the wife/husband. I want to know your buried to your elbows looking for ways to make my life better.

I love when people are experts on my faith. Matt s. What makes you a Joseph Smith expert? What are your sources? Have you read the BOM? Why do you care at all?? If I want to believe in your alleged cult isn't that my right? Are you telling me that you don't have something better to do than bash Mormons. You must be a Gilligan supporter, lol...
