He reminded me of a Snake oil saleman. Likeable enough, just not being the man he was. And the louder Rush Limbaugh yelled the less I Iiked any of it. McCain is going to get my vote

Romney never changed his core beliefs. He ran as a Republican and a strong Democratic state. This was an amazing achievement in and of itself. He promised the voters in Massachesetts that he would not try to overturn Roe vs. Wade or bar gay marriages. This is what the majority of his constituents wanted and and he was elected to represent them. Had he been elected and then changed his mind in office it would have been terrible. When he ran for President he embraced his core beliefs knowing that he would not be going against what his constituents wanted. I hope we can have other politicians that are that honest. They should look out for their constituents wants and needs rather than their own. Romney was completely honest and he followed through with what he promised the voters in Massachesetts and I believe he would have followed through with what he told voters in the General Election as well.

Mitt has done his act. He has enabled his liberal buddy Mac to steal the nomination. Had he dropped earlier, Huck would have emerged as the front runner with wins in SC, FL, OK, MO. Even in the final act, he has proved he is a flip-flopper. within 2 days he changed the position from "Battle till the end" to "Suspending the campaign". RoMoney is a Phoney.

I live in Mass. I first met Mitt in 1994. Your article is right on the money. During the first ten years I knew Mitt, he was moderate and pragmatic, moderately conservative on some issues and moderately liberal on others, but solution oriented. I watched his speech before CPAC and listened to Mitt talk about the biggest problems in our nation being the breakdown of the family(and the Anti-Gay Marriage consitutional amendment is the solution??????) and a lack a religious faith. Now he echos most the rabid voices in the rabid right. I no longer recognize the man. Its too bad--He actually a pretty competent guy.

I think your comments are pretty harsh and its reviews like this that helped to keep him down. And bringing his religion into it is really low. Romney has held many positions in his church and to me his going to the funeral of the leader of his church showed us that some things need to be taken care of and in a humanly nature. If he was involved in his faith and he was Catholic and the pope had died, and he out of respect went to his funeral would you have taken those pop shots at him? I think we lost the one good person who would have turned this country around. So will the gloves come off now between McCain and Huckabee or will the two of them join hands and skip down the yellow brick road together. They both lost my vote a long time ago.

Did you have to get in the McCain love here, Howard.

McCain is pandering to the right with all his might and he will be successful because the media will not question him on doing so.

McCain will keep touting his rightwing credentials, kissing up to hardline social conservatives but when the general election comes the media will swoon all over him and let McCain once again wear the title of Maverick.

To suggest that Mitt Romney lost this race because he was phony or not ???genuine??? vs. McCain (who now represents himself as a ???Reagan-like??? conservative) is missing both the point and the truth ??? think again about the 4.0 million to 4.7 million votes. If you heard his speech today at CPAC ??? that is Mitt Romney ??? difficult, for sure, to convey during the regular campaign who he really is through the sound-bites and heavy curtains of the popular media. I think his loss is simply attributable to McCain???s political connections ??? calling in endorsements at critical times, as you do point out. To those who know him personally, Mitt Romney is the ???genuine??? article ??? a genuine (and true) husband, father, American leader and patriot.

You are a tool. America screwed this one up bad. We can accept blacks, homosexuals, women, other races, etc...but you won't accept a Mormon. Bunch of bigots. It is pretty sad that Obama belongs to an all-black church...yet that is okay. It is also sad that even Michael Moore said Romney was treated unfairly for his religion. The best candidate will be left out of the race this year. Way to go America!!!

Well, I agree with most of that and I do like Romney as well but his position changes were a bit more drastic than other republicans and even dems. I mean, changing your mind about certain details of a particular policy is one thing but switching from one side of an issue to the opposite side (and doing so in what is widely perceived to be a bid for larger office) is a bit different. Gradual change over years in response to accepting new ideas is seen as admirable and honest. Big change in a short period of time due to seeking higher office seems more opportunistic. I'm not saying that's the case with Romney but that was the perception and he needed to fix that perception-which he clearly didn't. Kudos, though, to the classy way he's ending the campaign and bowing out to allow more focus on taking on the dems. That said more about his true character than any of the spin his campaign seemed intent on doling out.

I disagree that Romney pretended to be something he is not. It is true that he has changed his positions (as Huckabee and McCain have on taxes and the border). However, Romney has become more conservative over time. His defense of traditional marriage in the courts in MA and his rejection of laws that would have expanded abortion rights illustrate this. Romney may have made some mistakes, but it is also true that some groups actively campaign against him. Romney has an impressive record of fixing what is broken. He is an intelligent leader and great communicator. I hope our nation will find more leaders like Mitt Romney. We definitely need them.
