Media is always bias with Gov. Romney. He paid millions of dollars to the media and I have not seen any of it except on youtube. Meida is always liberal and no conservative. I now know their color, I will stop my subscription of Newsweek. I just remember how the media portray OJ Simpson so innocent esp. Newsweek., now publishing this disconcerting attack to Gov. Romney saying personally he is not a good candidate because of Mormonism and attending the Church President's funeral. What bigots will say, pen is mightier than a sword and Fineman just proven his point of being an ANTI MORMON and persuade people about this ignorance.

In a country that treats politics like a football game, who really knows Mitt Rommney? The candidates say whatever they want. The media spins it all according to their politics. Fair election, not in America!

If only Mr. FIneman would write as something he is not. This kind of article is what we have come to expect from a media who has decided campaigning is more important than reporting.

Howard would never say this about a democrat. This is ad hominum and indecent. I'm sure he doesn't think Harry Reid campaigned as somebody he is not. I'm sure he isn't saying that about Hillary (who is a bureaucrat and not some motherly feel-your-pain type).

Can we just officially call Newsweek a 'progressive' magazine so that the writers can accept contributions from George Soros?

Are you kidding me? You clearly don't know your head from a hole in the wall! Mitt Romney did not change to fit what conservatives were looking for. Your rhetoric leaves no room for growth or improvement. I prefer a person who, once gaining further knowledge, is adult enough to admit when they are wrong and make the necessary changes. That's what Mitt Romney did. Sheesh, you can't even get your facts straight about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is precisely what is wrong with Newsweek and other like news sources. Your bigoted opinion drives your articles and you don't bother to even check to see if what you've written is accurate.

You are clearly out of your mind! Romney was not fraudulent in the slightest. Your liberal rhetoric leaves no room for growth and improvement in one's life. Are politicians only allowed to be stagnant? They aren't allowed to grow and change their minds' according to new knowledge they have gained. Come on, don't be an idiot!

Count Dracula is almost impossible to kill, but he can be locked back into his coffin. Last night, Americans rejected yet another Republican installment of the business as usual Wall Street vampire, who was set again to feast upon the drive, energy, and optimism of the American people. This time the specter emerged in the form of Mitt Romney, who although magnificently coifed with a splash of gray, well rehearsed on all the key Republican buzzwords, and convincingly tailored in costumes befitting the President, sank hissing back down into his regaled coffin as Mike Huckabee pushed the Cross of Jesus into his face and John McCain beat back the dark lord's howling minions who were rushing in with microphones and fountain pens to save their master.

Let's all be very thankful that he did drop out because Canada or Mexico was looking pretty good.

"But maybe he really is a soulless throat-cutter who would do and say anything to win." Howard, did you type that with a mirror in front of you? Coming from one of the ALL-TIME sycophants for the Clintons, I am surprised you didn't choke as you wrote it. Thanks for giving me another reason to NEVER buy Newssqweak ever again, and to boycott any company that advertises anything you ever do.

EXCELLENT ARTICLE. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A COMMENT.

  • Posted By: MRam1 @ 02/08/2008 12:36:25 AM

Howard someone needs to just fire you with your bad articles

  • Posted By: islandpark @ 02/08/2008 12:12:46 AM

Howard's comments should go right to the shredder. Mitt Romney was an excellent candidate. He was done in by bias and back-door Washington politics. What a shame.

    Mr Howard-
I feel sorry for those people who read this article and think that you are a reporter. If you were a true reporter with integrity you would report for the public, not for what you think. Your opinion does not matter to the public readers, its the facts that matter. Newsweek is becoming more tabloid..

  • Posted By: islandpark @ 02/08/2008 12:11:00 AM

You don't have a clue. Mitt Romney was an excellent candidate done in by prejudial and back-door politics. As a result, the same old thing will happen in Washington. What a shame!

If this article had included just an ounce of respect for Mitt Romney, I may have given Howard the benefit of the doubt, but it didn't and I don't. Even the title is offensive and the rest is just another example of the incredible media bias that was stacked against Mitt from the beginning.

Mitt Romney knew he could help this country, and we missed the opportunity to elect a truly gifted man. We can only hope he gives us another chance

  • Posted By: CP9800 @ 02/07/2008 9:43:45 PM

Howard, Romney didn't lose because he wasn't, in your words, "genuine". He lost because Huckabee and Ron Paul would not drop out of a race that they knew they could never win. When the conservative vote is split three ways, it's easy for a moderate like McCain to win.
He lost because of headlines like this one: "Mitt Romney, Mormon millionaire, coasted to victory in a largely uncontested Nevada primary on Saturday." If you can't see the incredible bias the media displayed towards Mitt you would have to be blind. I don't remember any headlines reading, " John McCain, adulterous old guy, spread false stories to win the Florida primary........"
Mitt Romney was the most qualified man running for President. He is brilliant, educated, articulate, moral, successful, and civic minded. In short, he is everything you are not, Mr. Fineman.
Go ahead and tear down this great man. Kick him while he's down. When all the dust settles, he is still the man he is. You will still be a small minded, left leaning, journalist.

It is truly a sad day for the cause of conservative values. With reportedly less than half of McCain's supporters calling themselves 'conservative', it is truly amazing McCain is doing as well as he is. I use the word 'amazing' in place of the word I'd first though to use - baffling.

Unfortunately, it is not 'baffling' that McCain is ahead. The liberal media have done their job, and have done it well. They have amplified McCain at every opportunity, while attenuating Romney at every turn (eg. this ridiculous article). When Romney missteps, the media pounces; when McCain manipulates and distorts you'd hardly know it happened because the media gives him pass.

Today I feel ashamed of my [republican] party. We've been duped; our ignorance exposed. We've allowed a great opportunity to pass us by.
Today I'm impressed by the other party. They too did their job well. Through the media they've - ever so discretely, elevated McCain. They know having McCain as the republican presidential candidate serves only to increase their chance of election.
Today I???m disappointed in Huckabee. His real intent was not as well hidden as he might have thought. You performed well, Mike. You succeeded in defeating our party's choice. You can go home now.

    • Posted By: joepublic @ 02/07/2008 2:25:10 PM

You assume that if Huckabee was not in the race, all of those votes would go to Romney. Sorry, you can have all the experience in the world, but if you come across as a well rehearsed, well coiffed, phony cardboard cutout-you will lose. Give me a real conservative and I will choose him or her. Until then, I will support the two still in the race. Those of you who think it is better to have 8 years of liberalism running our country than have McCain are not true Republicans and should be ashamed of yourselves

      • Posted By: wyocby @ 02/08/2008 12:00:11 AM

John McCain is not a true Republican and anyone that votes for him isn't either. You should be ashamed!

  • Posted By: dunc @ 02/07/2008 11:57:07 PM

Worst article I have ever read. The author is a complete idiot!

  • Posted By: MRam1 @ 02/07/2008 11:53:24 PM

I find that Newsweek has become an opinion magazine. Your articles are suppose to report on a neutral position, not on the basis of what the author thinks. After seeing this election, the media is more dirtier than the politicians.

  • Posted By: jabailo @ 02/07/2008 11:53:06 PM

I wouldn't be too hard on Romney. Many have fallen into the same trap. Courting the extreme wing of the party is a dangerous game. Giuliani went down in flames for spending all his time trying to be "Conserative" when everyone wanted a Moderate. Huckabee for all his "phenonmena" is still a 200 delegate sideshow.

Bush supposedly won with a Christian coalition in 2004; however, they were icing on the cake. He won because enough mainstream people thought he was more sincere than flip-flopper Kerry.

Pandering to the extremists on either side almost never works. Ask McGovern.
