Im SHOCKED and DISGUSTED at how frequently doctors dismiss symptoms! Only YOU know your body best...and if you truly beleive you have something wrong KEEP looking for a doctor who will listen.

It would seem that if you have phisical symptoms of fivers and granuals being expelled by your skin that you would have proof of some disease or infection...

I am SO glad to see the CDC finally taking this condition seriously. Too often our medical community gets an elitist attitude about disease, which causes so many to suffer. No person should ever be told they are "anxious" or "crazy" simply because the Doctor and medical community at large are clueless and/or helpless. Good to luck to ALL that has this disabling condition.

I agree with mizturtle. Too many doctors are quick to say something is not a viable disease just because it doesn't have cut and dry symptoms. My daughter also has RSDS and she too is treated like she's faking symptoms because the doctors are too closed minded. The doctors need to educated and reminded that their primary job is to treat and try to heal the sick - not just fill their pockets. What every happened to the oath they take when they become doctors. My heart goes out to everyone who has any of these diseases that doctors refuse to accept.

I have been to a dermatologist a couple of times and my own physician about the itching I have on my arms. It is like there are bugs crawling under the skin or something biting me. Sometimes I even jusmp when it happens it is so intense. Since there are no lesians as yet I get cream and a hint of I don't believe you Come
back when there is something there. It is really uncomfortable and scary.

My husband has hair like things growing from his fingertips. They are black and they don't make the skin imflammed. They break off easily and then just grow back. I have looked everywhere for an explanation and cannot find one. I am not sure whether or not it's Magellans but he doesn't want to ask a dermatologist because they may think he's a freak.

I too have a rare disease, RSD, that that many doctors scoff at - even after studies have verified the condition and Soc. Sec. now covers for medical disability. I know what it is like to have Doctor's treat you like you are crazy when in fact you do have a legitimate medical problem. Meffert sounds like many of the arrogant closed minded Doctors I have seen. I hope the study finds an answer so that people can get the help they need.

Just stating my personal opinion, and I am no doctor, but this does seem very odd. I would say that living by the landfill had something to do with it, possibly.

The attitude of doctors who can't explain what is causing this disease is unforgivable. Instead of using the monies given to them to study the disease, they piss and moan and act as if they were the ultimate authority on any new disease. This is the same attitude that prevailed in the dark ages and kept modern medicine from achieving the advances it has achieved. If a dr. has this attitude , he deserves a hard kick in the ass and to be gotten out of the way. Too many people suffer needlessly because of these pompous jackasses. Find a cure or stop practicing medicine.Quack Quack!

I too have a rare condition that many Doctors still don't believe exists - even thought the Social Security Administration now has finally acknowledged RSD as grounds for medical disability and studies how it does exist. I know what it is like to have Doctors scoff at you and treat you like you are crazy. Meffert sounds like many of the closed minded arrogant Doctors that I saw while trying to diagnose and treat my condition. this thithat this study will legitimize this disease sothat those who suffer from it will eb

Meffert is a quack. Excessive skepticism of a patients complaint is little better than blatant malpractice and should not be tolerated. Seven doctor visits at more than $100 a piece should have us all pissed off at an incompetent medical establishment, not taxpayer money to research a mystery. HIV/AIDS was not funded for more than 10 years because of social prejudice, and in that time became the global pandemic it is today.

My mother suffered from this disease and it was very painful mentally and physically. I took her to two dermatologist and both did nothing to help her. They thought she was crazy. We purchased so many products to try and clear this up but nothing seem to work. My mom has dementia so after her doctor prescribed Haldol the thoughts of having worms crawling in her skin finally subsided. She had collected those tiny little fibers that look like worms but the doctors would not even look at them. This was a horrible experience for my mother as well as the family.
