This is a very interesting article. I agree with many that most doctors don't take the time or do their research when it comes to diagnosing patients. Everyone is different we were not made with cookie cutters.
    Also someone commented:
"Comment: 1950's: The pain in your stomach is an ulcer. Drink lots of milk.
1970's The pain in your stomach is an ulcer. Take antacids.
1990's The pain in your stomach is an ulcer caused by infection of H. Pylori, a bacteria. Take this antibiotic. Now the pain is gone."
My doctor told me of this when I told him of a Dr.Hahn out of Madison WI who believes asthma may be caused by a bacteria. Some have been cured of there asthma by taking an extended period of antibiotics. If you want to check it out here are some sites.

Where I first learned about Dr Hahn.

They can be helped with Bach Flower Remedies, one of which immediately comes to mind is Crab Apple.

The picture of the fibers under the skin is really wierd. Believe it or not, my boss killed a cricket on the shop floor and these long black threadlike things came out of it tangled within each other, writhed around on the floor for a couple of minutes until they died. Looked exactly like the tangled fibers in the picture...I had to show my boss the picture and he agreed......

I am absolutely not surprised that doctors are dismissing sick peoples issues, as if they know every single disease that exists and that no new illnesses will be discovered. As a person with several chronic diseases I have given up with the medical community due to their apathy and ignorance. Im certain that there are open-mined and caring doctors that exist, but they are few and far between. Hopefully science can explain this condition, but there are still many conditions that have no explanation and no cure. People have to remain vigilant in getting answers and stop letting doctors control the patients. Doctors work for us and they are not gods!

It's sad the the University of Texas has to have it's professional reputation smeared by the ranting's of a half-wit quack like Meffert. Doctors, if you simply don't know or recognize what is wrong with your patients, just tell them so! Really, we don't mind...in fact, we'd appreciate the candor, so we can quit wasting our time and yours, and go talk to someone else.

Well, Let me go out on a long, long, lonnggggg limb here and say what I think, that is OK, right.
It is some form of Allien virus from another planet. They all have a common denominator...............warm climate.
Proof is.... they have nothing to compare it to....

THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS IS THE PEOPLE DEFENDING THIS DOCTOR THAT IS "CERTAIN" THIS CONDITION DOES NOT EXIST. WHY WOULD SOMEONE POSSIBLY WANT TO LIE ABOUT THIS? I WISH THAT THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE CONVINCED THAT THIS IS FAKE WOULD START GETTING THE SYMPTOMS OF THIS DISEASE AND THEN SEE HOW FUN IT IS TO TRY TO GET HELP WHEN NOBODY BELIEVES YOU. THE PROBLEM WITH THE MEDICAL FIELD IN THIS COUNTRY IS THAT IS ALL ABOUT THE $$$$$. I DARE YOU TO TELL ME THAT THEY DONT HAVE A CURE FOR CANCER. THEY HAVE CURES BUT THEY ARENT GOING TO OFFER THEM BECAUSE THE DRUG COMPANIES AND THE DOCTORS ARE GOING TO LOSE MONEY AND THE EXTRAVAGENT LIFESTYLES THEY LIVE. MOST DOCTORS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PATIENTS OR THEY WOULD RESEARCH INTO SOMTHING INSTEAD OF WAVING IT OFF LIKE THEY ARE CRAZY. FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THEIR THAT ARE WILLING TO QUESTION THE INFORMATION THAT IS SPOONFED TO US AND WHO ARE WILLING TO STAND FOR THE POSSIBILITIES THAT MAYBE WE DONT HAVE THE ANSWER AND MAYBE THE THEIR ARE THINGS IN THIS WORLD THAT CANT BE EXPLAINED BUT IT DOESNT MEAN THEY DO NOT EXIST. POWER TO KNOWLEDGE

Morgellon desease and its associated fibers is the result of the secret aerial spraying the world is being subjected to for the past ten to twelve years. Research "chemtrails" at youtube and google, and see what I mean. Go to the Carnicom site for a full scientific and very well documented discussion about Morgellons. World governments are employing both military and commercial aircraft for this diavolical spraying of desease and death in an effort to control the weather, cause famine worldwide, reduce the population of the world, and turn us into radio antennas for their HAARP project; another New World Order endeavor financed with taxpayer's money, and aimed designed for our destruction. Just see for yourselves.

Why would you choose the least likely and most convoluted explanation. The simplest explanation is usually correct. The chemtrails that you speak of are nothing more than ice crystals formed from unburned hydrocarbons and water vapor emitted in the exhaust and exposed to the low temperature and low pressure of high altitudes. You probably believe in UFO's and Big Foot. The conspiracy is in your head

ice-crystals form contrails. Chemtrails form in conditions non-conducive for ice-crystals. Contrails dissapate; chentrails hang there for hours.

The dermatologist who stated he is "pissed off" by these patients really should find another line of work. While I don't suffer from the disease in the article, I would never visit a doctor again who is so dismissive of a patient's complaints. A pox on his househould!

I wish I could say I am surprised by Dr. Meffert's arrogance, but sadly, I am not. No matter what we may like to believe, medicine is not an exact science. Not all diseases and/or illnesses can be easily diagnosed. Some doctors, rather than admit that they simply do not know what is wrong with a person, will tell them that their illness is all in their head. It might serve all doctors well if they got very sick and very scared for a while so they would have better empathy for their patients.

Hi this article fails to mention other physical symptoms this disease entails. one of the these is night blindnes,/ My brother has suffered from this disease for two years now and has lost sight in one eye. he is literally blind. Also If this condition was caused by excessive picking itching etc. I don't think the lesions would appear on males; genitalia, which is the case with my brother, I My brother is ill, I am concerned that when Drs. are confronted with something as bizarre and confusing as this condition they just do not want to deal with it because it is TOO complicated and possibly they hate to say i don't understand this. Fortunately there are maverick physicians out there who will see these suffering people (who can not even sleep at night due to the extreme discomfortt.) These are our hero doctors.

I have a sister who is 48 years old and she has had Morgellons for six years. When this first started hapening to her the entire family not to mention the many doctors she went to see said she was delusional and it was all in her head. Some doctors would not even talk to her. I have seen with my own eyes the nonhealing skin lesions on her. She has told me of the crawling or itching sensations she would have and yes I have seen the fibers and black granules emerging from her skin. She also has neurological impairments such as short-term memory loss and at time she is delusional. It just outrages me that some very educated doctors can just DISMISS this becaue they don't understand it. Why did they become a doctor if they are not willing to explore the unknown. This is real and thousands of people have it. All diseases start somewhere and Morgellons is no different. My sister saw one doctor that had a demeanor of a cold heart human. I say to all these EAT UP STUPID doctors that are affraid of exploring this to GET OUT of the medical field because it's doctors like them that keeps people from going.

Looks a bit like fungal hyphae or an actinobacter to me. If I had some of those fibers, I would try growing them on a plate with high silicon content such as oatmeal or cornmeal. If it can be isolated, a little PCR might shed a little light.

Another thousand people, whose illnesses were 'all in their heads' just died because they went to lazy doctors.

Doctors today are too lazy to research, and too arrogant to take patient complaints seriously. Thirty years ago, my mom had multiple health issues. She went to dozens of docs, all who told her it "was all in her head." Finally, she went to a doctor who actually admitted he had no idea what she had, but promised to find out. He went to his medical books. He consulted other medical experts. He did blood tests on my mom. Finally, they found out what was wrong: she had lupus. If it's not a disease that doctors can easily point to and say, "Oh, it's this" they just want to give you a pill for depression (probably because it's easier for them to get insurance reimbursement for that than for to diagnose and treat a disease that isn't popular) then they just want to quickly move on and "process" the next patient so they can have a higher patient ratio.

I'm sick of traditional medicine docs. They only care about how much money they can make, and not patinets' welfare. went to dozens of doctors

There are so many diseases out there. I've been to dermatologists before because I broke out in skin rashes being underneath fluorescent lighting. I also have fibromyalgia. I'm only 21 years old. I've been diagnosed since I was 16. I had symptoms since I was 14, I was called nuts for 2 years. Well dermatologists don't understand why I break out in rashes underneath fluorescent lighting. They find it a mystery, and weird. My rheumatologist has been testing me for years for lupus. It still hasn't come back positive yet. Doctors don't know everything. There are many new conditions coming out every year, who no one has a cause for. It's scary sometimes when you think you may have a disease no one has ever heard of, because your symtpoms don't always fit with just one disease. Doctors really need to not always think something resonates from being psychological if they can't figure out what's going on with someone physically. I for one am very glad the CDC is delving into the Morgellon's disease to find out why people are having this. It's a scary thing. It is hard when doctors don't take you seriously. I really have empathy for these people who live with fibers coming out of their skin every single day, and who hear that they are having psychological symptoms. I hope all of them find out what is causing this, and that they get some answers.

Several years ago my mom was very ill, went from doctor to doctor, all who told her "it was all in her head." Finally one doc admitted he had no idea what she had, but promised her he would find out. He went to his medical books. He consulted other medical experts. He made phone calls to experts in other parts of the country. He took blood tests. Finally, a diagnosis: lupus. If symptoms don't match those of a list of diseases or conditions on their pre-made "grocery list" of acceptable diseases, then docs blow you off. Probably because if they give you a pill for depression, they can more easily be reimbursed from insurance for that than they could be for treating a lesser-known, "unpopular" disease. I trust NO traditional medicine docs. They're all just in it for the money.

Very interesting article. I have not heard of this condition before. I am glad that the CDC is looking into this and hopefully their findings will benefit people who have this and also the medical profession to help them understand this.

It isn't the doctors that think they are god, its the patients that confir that title. They want doctors to know everything, and when they don't somehow the doc. has failed. Every profession have people with a range of expertise. Take some personnal responsability, determine if you think the doc. is being resonable if not move one. People spend more time and effort searching for a new car and test driving than they do finding a suitable doctor. If a patient does due diligence they will get what they are paying for. By the way I am not a doctor just a discriminating consumer of medicine.
