There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself thru art and if it is on your body it is even better, I have some and I don't believe they are slutty especially on the ankle...If you don't have any then don't open your mouth about a subject you don't understand!!!!!

Comment: this is to knuckleswich, my man loves my tattooes and we watch football, nascar races and we go fishing and hunting together. a man ages too and and yes they too wrinkle. women can have tattoes too. I have 5 and I want at least 3 more but mine are all in good taste. They are where nobody can see them unless I choose to show them. so please speak for yourself and not all men. Because I do know some men love to see them on women. Mine does.

WTF are u talking about!!!? I have been defending this topic.... I have tattoo's...

----This is the second redneck... read before you speak people... Seriously, go to them thar skool and get an edgu-ma-cashum yall!

as a tattoo artist my self i know that some places do hurt more than others... its not always the fatty areas that hurt less i found that the head didnt hurt as much as the back of my calf or the rib cage areas...and it does depend on the artist who does your tattoo... some are really heavy handed. sometimes if there isnt enough needle going in to the skin it will hurt more.....standard depth is about the width of a nickle...every one who is interested in getting a tattoo just remember that the pain is only temporary and if you ask your artist for a break im sure you will get one....I would be more than happy to answer any questions that you have...

    RN;

I can spell but I am not a good typist and I don't want to waste my time spell checking a post. Give me a breka. You've never double-keyed or transposed letters? And I know, would is spelled with a 'u"...it just didn't come out that way when I typed it. My bad.

As for you, there are exceptions to every rule and while you may not be wrinkled now, you have to admit, you will be one day. But look at Lady Leatherneck's post...she is so proud of her tatoo that she covers it up on her back so "you would never know that I had one". Why get one then?

You can think whatever you want but "tats", espcially in a professional work place, are not welcome and would not doubt hury any young woman's carrer aspirations. Just not a very smart thing to do.

P.S. As for tattoos hurting career aspirations... maybe... but ambition has a lot to do with anything in life. I didn't go to college and make quite a bit of money and I am very tattooed!

Sorry buddy but your comment about 'why get one' is way out of line. People get them for VERY PERSONAL reasons. I have over 20 hours of work done and none of it is visible if I am wearing pants, a shirt, and my hair down. I don't mind that they show in the summer when I wear a swimsuit, but I got them in specific places so that I COULD cover them if I need to. Like in front of my fiances mother :)
There are plenty of people that get them and show them to no one. And they get it because they wanted to... it's for that person and no one else. Unless you have gotten a tattoo you would not understand. You might as well quit commenting on it since you have NO experience and your world views are completely skewed.

Conformity requires tattoos to be covered, due to not being mainstream accepted in some workplaces. So, those of us with tats cover them. I work to live (and live well off my work thanks), not live to work, and so I do what is necessary during work time, but my off time is mine, I choose tattoos and piercings, thanks.

oh yeah, I have my tattoo on my lower back, too. So I really support you about this most painful place for tattoo.

I currently have 4 tattoos ....the tattoo that cause me the most pain ( and i shed a few tears )was my dragon which is located on my left side .on top of my ribs , Starting from right under my breast to just above my hip bone.. Everyone else (the back of my neck ,shoulder blade, and side of my leg between my calf muscle and shin ) felt like annoying bee stings! I love tattoos and even if you do get ones that you didn't think over you can always cover them up with one that you did think through. I know only one of my tattoos was planned , everything else was spur of the moment and i dont regret a thing.

Tema, Topical anesthetics can control the pain of permanent makeup very well. It is not good to inject local anesthetics into any area of the face for permanent makeup because of the swelling associated with infiltration. You have omitted critical information from your interviews with Dr. Zwerling. Your statement is incorrect as written: "Unless you go to a doctor for "permanent makeup" tattoos (like eyebrows) rather than a design, you won't get much help with the pain, says Charles Zwerling, a Goldsboro, N.C., eye doctor who specializes in permanent makeup (he uses local anesthesia)." While this may not have been your intent, please correct the record to reflect that permanent makeup does not require a doctor for pain control in 99% of cases. Sincerely, Linda H Dixon MD

My friend, who is a tattoo artist with over 26 years experince tells me that the pain is not that bad. But what really shocked me was the after effects. He told me, and this is considered a trade secret, that most peoples farts stink twice as bad AFTER they have been tattooed. Is that scary or what? That pretty much cancels that idea of getting the barbed wire on my biceps.

I think its funny how all of you people on here trash talk each other when you don't even know each other. If someone wants a tattoo, let them. Its not your life. Its not your body. Why would you care anyways? Everyone is entitled to state their opinion on here, but the majority of you sound like you have a third grade education and have nothing else to do with your pathetic, so called "life." I have 3 tattoos. They all mean something different and are very personal to me. I can hide them or show them whenever I want to. If someone can say a tattoo looks trashy on a woman, shouldn't they also say it looks trashy on a man? I laugh at those on here that instigate little fights over the internet. What are you? 12 years old? If it bothers you that much go start a real fight with the next biker you see out the road or at a bar. See how far you ridiculous comments will get you then.

I got my Tattoo on the upper part of my back close to my neck. It hurt for a while but I learned how to block out the pain eventually. My Tattoo took 3hours and is the most beautiful part of my body if you ask me. It is a memorial for my brother and I absolutly love it. It was my first tatoo and I am ready for more!!! It is a very addictive process.

I have a tattoo, on the top of of my feet, one on each. very cetailed and she went back and forth and that was the most painful of all. going over already sensitive skin. And i would do it again, i thought it through and very pleased with my tatts. And you do need to think about it and really want it.
And to the pain issue, yes my feet hurt and i would do it again. thats the one tattoo that none of it felt good. i also have on my calf and chest. My sternum was painful, very much so.
I plan on getting more tattoos, no matter the pain i will get more. i love them and always will.

As someone covered in tattoos, I have to say, this article is pretty dumb. #1 if you are going to talk about the most painful places to get tattooed, how about you talk about the places that will apply to the majority of people that get tattoos and not focus on the acceptional, like eyeball and make up tatt's. #2 Does the person who wrote this article have tattoos, or did they just guess which spots would be most painful? What about rib shots, don't you think maybe that deserves a mention? And if you go in to get a tattoo and ask for numbing cream you are an idiot and are going to get laughed out of the shop. This is a stupid article.

  • Posted By: x2fr @ 02/08/2008 3:35:41 PM

This is the dumbest list made by people who are obviously not very tattooed. Get a tattoo on your ribs and you will wish you were on your ankle or chest. Get one on the side of the neck and you will want to be behind the ear which i ihave never had a complaint about. This being said, no tattoo is unbearable if you really want it. i just think this list is completly wrong and you should put a tattoo where you want it and not where you think it will hurt less. The tattoo is permanent but the pain is VERY temporary.

Thank you for commenting on what the article is actually about instead of giving your opinion on the ethical and personality traits of people who have tattoos. Its nice to actually have somebody give information that I was looking for, instead of totally unwanted, ridiculous opinions from those who held themselves in a position of judgment, which I always thought should be left to God.

Well said! Never sacrifice the quality of the design because it might hurt too much.

I was 100% right.. People who would like to talk smack to or about me because of my age and the fact that I have an open enough mind to not judge people because of body modification really are stupid dumb asses. You people obviously know nothing about respect to others. Just because you have tattoos doesn't mean that you are worst off.

    Posted By: shawnna89 @ 02/08/2008 3:49:10 PM
Comment: Really, People against body modification and can degrade people for it make me SICK. Seriously, I am 18 years old, I had the chance to get my first tattoo when I was 16 but wanted to wait to make up my mind on the perfect one and not just get something that is mainstream. I picked angel wings that take up the whole top of my back in Loving Memory of my Grandpa and My Uncle who botch passed away. My boss has seen my tattoo and he LIKES IT. Body modification doesn't mean you will necessarly be unemployed, homeless, trashy, and any of the other God aweful things that some of you close minded people associate with tattoos.

If you don't like them thats fine, you have the right to your opinion but to be so judgmental about people you DONT EVEN KNOW because they have chosen to express themselves in a different way than you might makes you look like a rude, disrespectful, closeminded idiot.

Oh and to the dumb asses that are saying "If God wanted blue and green people he would make them like that" thats like saying if God wanted people to wear clothing he would make up be born in them. If God is going to judge me because he gave me free will and I chose to show my love for my family through body modification than I don't want anything to do with that kind of God. I am a devout christian so STFU if you can't even see from someone elses point of view. Dummies.

    Comment: Shawna:

Your boss at the trucking company or the diner proably does like your tattoo. I was talking about a career woman. But you're 18 years old so you have all the world experience you need to make educated decisions that will affect the rest of your life.

Comment: Thank you for degrading me you ass hole but I am actually a Design Assistant in the Reno Area. I make $16 an hour as a starting teenager. I pay my own bills, car, rent, and everything else. I am attending UNR in the fall for Bussiness Finance and Administration. Go f yourself. You know nothing about me.

The shin bone ya'll...it almost made me cry like a baby. I don't mean a little part of the shin...I'm talking a tat from my knee to ankle that took 4-5 hours. Call me a pansy if you want, but I have other tats (i.e. back, arm including inside, etc.)...but the extensive shin tat was ridiculous. It felt like a little tiny foot kicking my shin over and over really fast. I also hear that rib cage tats are super painful. It is all relative, and part of the experience...pain fades and tats are forever.

P.S. For all the superficial people who are posting anti-tat comments on here...if you don't like'em don't get'em. The only issue with getting tats is that there are many shallow people who will judge you for doing so. For those of us who aren't concerned what other superficial people think...there is no drawback to tats (as long as they are clean/sanitary). I will say that if you get a highly visible tat (neck, hand, etc.) that you have to know that it will limit your options in life...besides that to each their own.

    • Posted By: sacredhrt114 @ 02/08/2008 4:08:59 PM

the sound the tattoo machine makes on the shin bone really gets me... totally makes my skin crawl.. I can only imagine how it feels.

I beleive tattoos are one of the finer things in life. They have very deep meaning, whether liked or disliked, to the bearer. Very few things in life are permanent; wealth disappears and "Class" is merely a fashion which lets one beleive they are better than others. I am myself an accomplished surgeon, speak italian and french fluently, and have a large tattoo spanning from my waist to my elbow.

where are you from???? I know a few Talaricio

I have two tatts strategically placed. I am not a slut, I have been married for 17 years. I am not trailer trash either. I am an owner of my own business and quite successful and professional. Sometimes tatts are away of establishing something that has happened in your own life. Kind of like a self proclamation. But, bottom line anyone who feels like they can judge another because of what they feel they want to do to ones own body.... well that makes me wonder what your hiding in your closet.....

  • Posted By: elvisluvr88 @ 02/08/2008 4:08:31 PM

I got at tattoo on the inside of my hip bone. That hurt pretty bad because they had to go up on the bone. After all the pain it was well worth it. I would get another one probably just not in that particular spot.
