To: Knucklehead; I knew who quoted that line, I just didn't think you'd know who Jim Morrison was. HELLO?
Your comments and feelings are duly noted. Next time I see a biker or stripper with body-art, I'll think of you.
PEACE TO YOU & YOURS. TheWiZ.

I have tattoo behind my ear as well and it did not hurt me either. I should note that it is a piece of wheat (colored yellow) that is only like 4 inches big and only took about 30 minutes to finish. My Virgin Mary that stretches up my bicep from the elbow to my shoulder wasn't too bad but it did take 2 sessions at 3 hours each time so it did start to hurt after awhile. I have heard from many friends that the side of the ribs down to your waist has been the most painful for them.

If anyone hasn't noticed.....most of the people that are commenting on the negative parts of tattooing do not sound very intelligent, sound very judgemental, and appear to have a very immature mentality. Having a battle of witts with an unarmed person never works.
My husband has numerous tattoos that were well thought out and planned, and he is currently working on a full sleeve. He has only regretted one, and it was the one he got right out of high school on a whim. (He has since had it covered up) I on the other hand, waited until I was 26 years old to even consider having a tattoo done. I researched what I wanted , I thought about it for a long period of time, and then finally went and had it done. I put it in a spot I felt comfortable with, one that I could cover when I chose to or let it show when I wanted it to, and I have not once regretted it. In fact, I went and had more detail added to it. We are both educated, have well-mannered, intelligent children, and jobs where we deal with the public on a regular basis. As for the stereotypes people keep commenting on, I have found that to be the exception and not the rule. Many tattoed people are kind, considerate, NON-JUDGEMENTAL, and extremely intelligent. They just look at the world from a different perspective than some.
As for the pain, which is what the article was intended to be about; while it was not the most pleasant thing I have experienced (you are having ink injected into your skin with a needle :) ) it was by far not the most painful, either. It was completely tolerable, and not at all what I expected due to horror stories from other people who were trying to talk me out of it. Most of their opinions were due to lack of information.
As for all tattoos looking alike: as tattoos get more main stream there are a lot more people who pick one out of a book that thousands of others have picked, BUT there are many people who have original, beautiful artwork that has a significant meaning in their lives.
Absolutely nobody has the right to judge anybody about a choice they have made regarding tattooing their bodies. Tattooed people come from all walks of life, many different socio-economical backgrounds, and many different races and religions. If you don't like to look at them,..... DON'T! If a girl looks trashy to you because of a tattoo...WALK AWAY..Let some other man who takes the time to get to know her for who she is, be the lucky person . If you have that strong of an opinion about tattoos..HAVE YOUR OPINIONS, but keep them to yourself because you would not like someone telling you how and why you should live your life the way they choose for you to. Don't judge anyone until you have walked a mile in their shoes...Prejudging a person can really cause you to miss out on some really fantastic friends.

HEY EVERYBODY???let???s stop putting down people like AlostThought, and all the rest who have been putting down tattoos???not because they are right, but because they are simplistic, idiotic juveniles who think so highly of themselves, and so lowly of everyone else. ALL they are trying to do is get a rise out of everyone. Why, you may ask. More than likely, because that is the ONLY way they can make themselves feel superior. If you continue to feed their negativity, all it does is continue to fuel the fire that they want to grow. They have completely taken away from what the whole purpose of this was to be???about the pain, or lack of pain, involved in getting tattoos, which is all my first posting was about (if you scroll down far enough to find, & read, it). In other words, lets let the pissing contest end and take this forum back to its origins???the pain.

My first tattoo appeared on my body when I was only 16, by the way there was my Birthday so it was my present. As is known, it is the age when young men have intention to be allocated, draw attention, and probably I not exception.. Possibly, I could avoid it if my parents have forbidden to me. But they have told, that it is my life, my body and according to me to solve, what to do with these, the main thing that I have not regretted then about it.. And here now I till do not know, I regret or not. But in minutes of doubts I remember as I wished to have a tattoo on the body, as I was captured with that sudden impulse. And it is fine. Now I'm 17 years old, and I have got one tattoo on my waist, it is a banal Keltic pattern, but such beautiful. However, I think, that this is not my unique tattoo which will be on my body. And one more reason on which I probably has gone on it, it is that fact, that I am afraid of a pain (and to hurt a tattoo on a waist badly enough), and here to these I likely prove to myself, that I can overcome my fears.
    P. S. In conclusion, it would be desirable to advise only to those who was solved on a tattoo not to do a tattoo in the summer when ultra-violet beams are so dangerous, because on the sun tattoo fades.

My first (and currently only) tattoo is a large one on my left side extending from my hip to my armpit. The worst spot was working on the ribs as the needle vibrated my bones and just generally hurt like hell. Lower down it still hurt at times but it would numb a bit and once I even fell asleep.

Talk to the artist about what you want and don't start until you are happy with the design, location and size. Mine is actually twice the size I had originally intended but it was such an amazing design I just went with it. My only regret is that I don't get the chance to show it off as much as I'd like! My next one will probably be on the arm or another easily visible place.

There is noting more unappealign than a woman with a tatoo, especially on her chest. I don't know when this whole trend started. It is another attempt by women to show men how much like men they can be like men.. Men don't want women to be men...they want them to be women. Here is a quick tip to women. No man would rather watch a game with you, play video games, go out for beers, a ball game, etc. They wold rather go with their regular friends. And no man takes any woman seriously who thinks they are a wild and crazy party animal. Oh sure, the man might want to have a one-nighter with them but for a serious relationship, no way. This tatoo trend will end and there will be alot of women going to the "un-tattoer" to have these things removed. I take back my original statement. A tatoo on a woman with wrinklined skin is even more unattractive. And yes, girls, believe it or not, you will age. And you all can compare your wrinklled tattos at the over 40 singles dances you all will be attending.

Tattoos can represent many different things to many different people. As far as pain goes, I think I have a pretty high threshold, and I have taken about 4 and a half hours of work to my ribcage. I wouldn't say it was the most painful thing I've ever had to do but it definitely stings. I'd advice breathing rhythmically, and trying to focus on something other than the dull pain, that after about an hour turns into an almost sickening pain. Also, take breaks and drink water. Don't stand up too fast, and keep it uncovered as long as you can afterward, especially if it is a larger tattoo. Contrary to this article though, I noticed that the pain increased around my breast tissue, and my tummy fat. The actual ribcage just felt hot. Touch-ups are also more painful than the original tattooing.

All of you who have absolutely nothing better to do with your time than to put people down for something that they wanted are pathetic. Tatoos on someone elses body are doing you no harm. If you are really that close minded......stay home. Nobody wants to hear how much you dislike something. People who have them, like myself, like them the majority of the time. I'm sure there is something that people with tatoos can put you down for doing you pathetic pieces of shi*.

  • Posted By: pvitali @ 02/08/2008 3:24:48 PM

Apparently there is a disconnect here.
If a person gets a tattoo, it is their choice. Some are beautiful and some are tacky, like "do not enter" above your rearend.
If you truly want a tattoo and it means something to you rather than fitting in with the fad, go get one then, take the advice of people about seeking professionals and thinking it out.
I personally don't have any tattoos, nor do I want one, but that is just me. Maybe time will change that, who knows.
I don't think differently about a person's qualifications, upbringing, or intelligence if they have a tattoo. Tattoos are a life long commitment. Just be smart about what you put on your body and who does it.

  • Posted By: Babybare1050 @ 02/08/2008 1:12:58 PM

Tattoos are unsightly, tacky-looking and seem to be flaunted by those members of society who do not hold themselves in high-esteem. I see tattoos sported by those individuals of society whom I think of as cheap, common, and without any sense of what the finer things in life are. In essence, they have no class.

I'm a graduate student, studying for my MA/PhD in Catholic Church History. I volunteer at my church, tutor high school students, substitute teach and help in local political campaigns. I speak three languages, am an avid photographer and I'm also in the middle of writing a screenplay. Oh yeah, and I have three tattoos with four more in the works. I'm glad you're sharing your opinion, which I'm sure applies to a select few with tattoos, but I wouldn't make such sweeping generalizations while remaining ignorant of the reality of the situation.

I Have Two Tattoo's one for A friend that died for saving me and another for My family. Where can such a pompus A@@ feel compelled to say I have a Low self esteem or am cheap they are reminders everyday that the only reason i am here is someones sacrifice. I will flaunt them everyday so people know that others sacrifice so others can live. If they offend you then find out why they got them

    • Posted By: phdgirl68 @ 02/08/2008 1:17:15 PM

I happen to have two tattoos in addition to my Ph.D., my ability to speak 4 languages fluently (including Latin, should I choose to); enjoy $200 bottles of wine; send my first grader to a top-notch private school; and work full time as a professional fundraiser. I also hold myself in quite high esteem, which is why I am confident enough to have two tattoos in the first place. Methinks you have a misguided sense of what self-esteem is - or perhaps you, yourself, don't have any.

You baby just showed your intelligence by saying something so retarded. I mean are you kidding me. I really hope you do not come in contact with many people such as children or people that need help because you my dear would be the last person I would want around ANY family member or loved one. Close minded people need to get the sticks out of their rearends and lower their noses before someone punches them in it.

You are right!!!!! An attitude adjustment is what you would get here. Maybe that is what is wrong with people such as yourself you haven't had one yet come to Kentucky anytime you like with that mouth we would love to have ya!!!!!

I am a professional RN, with my Masters' Degree, live in an upscale neighborhood, drive my MB convertible to work, in th summer, and my Jeep Grand Cherokee in the winter, have two happy, well-adjusted girls who know that my tattoo was done in honor of their births. I have been 20 years in a stable marriage with a man who enjoys my body art, and is completely comfortable (and thinks its sexy) that I am confident enough to wear it. Enough said.

    • Posted By: sacredhrt114 @ 02/08/2008 1:22:50 PM

Do you think that Angelina Jolie has no class? Tattooed people come in all forms honey... It's a little harder to walk around with tattoos than to walk around in your own plain skin... I think that people with tattooes have very high self-esteem and are VERY sure of themselves especially if they have a lot... it takes some serious balls to make that kind of commitment!

      • Posted By: JustMyOpinion123 @ 02/08/2008 1:32:03 PM

Bad comparison ... Angelina Jolie is a freak.

    • Posted By: greenyoshighirl @ 02/08/2008 1:28:15 PM

It's not as though anyone were making you look, no matter how much you feel that they are being flaunted. That is the wonderful thing about individuality, I can paint myself every colour under the sun should I choose, you can exclude me from your social dealings should you choose. (That would be your loss by the sounds of it,since I dont like judgemental people.) Low class in my mind would be characterized by those among us who feel that they have a right to pass judgement on others based on some superficial detail about their physical persona. Nice. Perhaps you shouldn't interact with people, it seems your
standards are unneccesarily high. (Good for you though, for being perfection.)

Ah Babybare, what a narrow life you lead. I have advanced degrees, my IQ tests consistently at 167 on the Stanford-Binet, I've supported myself most of my life as a classical musician, artist (oil paint) and now own my own business, which is actually successful, where I sell my own work! I'm considered by many to be one of the best dressed women in my town - oh, and I have two tattoos! Horrors. Grow up.

    • Posted By: emansgettnair @ 02/08/2008 1:26:44 PM

What a dumba$$. I make over $120K a year and have a $600K house with two kids, wife, and a dog. The American Dream right?? Oh and I even drive a benz. I ALSO HAVE two full sleeves and partial back piece. Tattoos are the fineer things in life. A tattoo cost three times as much as your little glass of wine.

    • Posted By: outcastedMISFIT @ 02/08/2008 1:20:49 PM

i dont agree with that at all...i have two tattoos both of which are for my great grandmother that passed away...they are two of her drawings she did for me when i was a young girl...and that fact that they have meaning is even better...some people express themselves with this for of art...if you dont have any that is fine...i dont think there is anything wrong with that...but thinking of them as cheap and common and having no sense is just plain rude

I got a tattoo on top of my big toe. It hurt so bad, but it was worth it. I also got one behind my ear, and it was the least painful thing that has ever happened to me. I hate needles and I do NOT take pain well at all, but it seriously felt like someone was lightly scratching behind my ear. It was so peaceful(other than the noise) that I almost went to sleep!

  • Posted By: hd08 @ 02/08/2008 3:23:19 PM

This is an article about tattoos...if you don't like them, just don't read it. Stop wasting your time arguing with people who obviously like them. Ridiculous.

What is wrong with you people? If you don't like tattoos, DON'T GET THEM. Don't presume to analyze the psyche's of people who DO get them...Sure, people with multiple tattoos are angry sociopaths. We also sacrifice small children under the full moon & drink their blood...O wait, I forgot, we make sure to save some of that blood for our NEXT FREAKIN TATTOO!! Sure. And if a woman's a *** & shows no interest in your sorry ass after you try to pick her up with some pathetic line, she must be a "***" right? Get a f&*kin life and don't speak on that of which you obviously know NOTHING about...

    • Posted By: RyuKojo @ 02/08/2008 3:22:57 PM

I agree. Tattoos are not for everyone. Some people are very fickle and get bored with thier ink very quickly. Other people dont think things through as well. I dont know how many times I've seen a girl come in and want their lover of 4 weeks name in cursive in black on their neck and they've come back a month later wanting it covered up or altered. Sounded good at the time I guess. The only thing you can do about anything resonabely 'fresh' in solid black is go get it removed or get it covered up with something else in solid black.

  • Posted By: kake1972 @ 02/08/2008 12:30:33 PM

I have tattoos on my chest, arms, ankle, thigh, and calf. The most painful of them all was the calf. It was even worse than the ones on my chest. My children are fascinated with tattoos, and when they're 18 if they want one, I'll go with them. But anyone who wants a tattoo needs to think long and hard....I usually wait a year or so between them to make sure it's what I want. I also have put mine where they can be easily covered or shown depending on where I am.

    • Posted By: jakzenm @ 02/08/2008 3:22:12 PM

I fully agree, I have 5 tats one of which is a full wrap half sleeve. Yes the inside of the arm is a bit tough to take but the worst was spending 6 hours getting a tribal dragon that runs from just above the ankle up to the back of my knee. I walked funny for days after that. Was it worth it, hell yeah because it means something to me!!

Is it possible to get a tat where the sun don't shine ? Also ,are it covered by insurance? Just curious.

    • Posted By: RN12 @ 02/08/2008 2:01:07 PM

No, tattoos are not covered by insurance, we "trashy" people must give up our beer money to get them:)

      • Posted By: jessica718 @ 02/08/2008 2:28:33 PM

RN12: That's actually not true. My mother had both her breasts removed due to breast cancer and elected to have reconstructed surgery. When they remove the breast due to cancer they sometime take the nipple as well, and in my mothers case they did. When she had her breasts reconstructed they gathered a small bit of skin to look like a nipple, then at a later time, tattooed the pink coloring of a nipple to make it look more natural....100% covered by the insurance company accept for a co-pay. Pretty cool stuff actually.

        • Posted By: RN12 @ 02/08/2008 3:03:50 PM

jessica718, thanks for that info. you are most right, and thank goodness that kind of tattoing is paid for, and good luck to your mother. I was thinking that the neanderthal klee1 was heading down some path of sarcasm if insurance paid for "regular" tattoos.

          • Posted By: jessica718 @ 02/08/2008 3:20:32 PM

Yes, you're right, I took his/her comment as such as well. Too bad they're not covered...for what ever bazarre reason...tat parlors would be on every street corner and we'd all be so very colorful : )

      • Posted By: jrhdah @ 02/08/2008 2:22:35 PM

LOL...RN12...I'm holding my sides right now....

I currently have two tattoos myself, one on my hip and one behind my ear. I have to disagree with this artice when it depscires how this spot or that spot is painful cuz it all depends on the person. From my experience the tattoo behind my ear tickled! LOL Funny I know but that's the truth. I also have friends with tattoos on their feet and some said it hurt others said it was just annoying. So I would say the only truth to this article would probably be the eye and down below! Everything else depends on who you are and your ability to tolerate pain!

Comment: To KnuckleSandwich er whatever; Your assessment of me is equal to your intelligence = ZERO. Someone alot smarter than I once said "Nobody Gets Out Alive" and that also refers to you - sorry for the enlightenment

That someone, was Jim Morrison genius. And you quoting the words of the dead, make them the "Grateful" dead. At least they don't have to listen to such mindless drabble, spewing from your mouth... And I'm starting to think my assessment of you was pretty accurate, now. Free will is what you were given. I will not argue with that. You don't like tattoo's fine. You spoke your peace. That's your opinion and nobody minds hearing your opinion every now and then... But when your mouth, starts to sound more like your keister.... you get the picture. Like I said:
