i enjoy the negative comments. i probably wouldn't want to be liked by you or like you much either. i get my tattoos for me. it annoys me when people want to talk to me about them in a good way, they're for me. anyhow, long sleeved shirt covers them, i've got a snappy haircut and an IQ of 130, you'd hire me. and the anger issue guy... i got along with mom and dad pretty good, so thanks for caring.
as for the point of the article, they hurt. everybody is different in different areas on the body though, i don't think you can isolate the most painful places on a population of people as a whole.
oh and the guy who made light of artists, my best friend is a tattoo artist and he takes it very seriously, he is quite talented. gabrielcece.com.

Yes, pain has a lot to do with the person's personal pain tolerance. I've seen huge guys- big enough to be body guards- get a tattoo on their ribcage and have had tears in their eyes and quivering lips. Ive also seen younger girls who took their christmas money from grandma and gotten huge pieces on their ribcage and they dont even blink. Some people flinch or grit their teeth, some people cry or throw up, some people even laugh.

MY SON, WHO IS 35 YEARS OLD , WANTED TO HAVE A TATTOO OF THE CANADIAN FLAG TATTOOED ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK. WELL HE GOT IT DONE ALWRIGHT BUT DURING THE TATTOO HE PASSED OUT COLD TWICE FROM THE PAIN. HE FELL RIGHT OUT OF THE CHAIR AND LANDED ON THE FLOOR. HE HAS OTHER TATTOOS, BUT NONE WERE AS PAINFUL AS THE BACK OF THE NECK.---GEEZER.

I thought long and hard about my tattoos. I have three currently and plan to get two more. All of them have a deep religious/spiritual/personal meaning to me. I've decided to get each one at a turning point in my life. The only one I am waiting on is the one for my upper middle back. That one is being saved for after marriage, and is the representation of all things balanced in the universe. Everything has a Yin to the Yang. This is my belief, and if expressing my religion to myself and those around me is somehow a horrendous act of insanity, then I obviously need to study the Constitution again. I was under the impression that it contained the right to free speech. All of the people out there trying to degrade a person because they are putting to practice this right, I respect your opinion. I disagree with you, and think you need to find a better way to express yourself.

I honestly don't like tattoos on women. Cute little ones in obscure places are fine, but large ones seem masculine to me and tacky on a woman's beautiful body. I also think of my grandmother and what a tattoo would look like on her and it makes me shiver.
I recently went to a beautiful beach wedding, sadly enough the bride had a strapless dress with a large flying dragon across her back that swooped over her shoulders and around her neck. Her skin actually looked It was scales. It took all romance out of the wedding because you you could see was a reptile's face during the ceremony.
If you do tattoo your body, be tasteful, it is a work of art to begin with.

If you don't like tattoos on women, then don't look. Women are not here as part of the scenery designed just for you. No one is. Obviously the person the bride was marrying loves her tattoos as much as (s)he loves her. My husband doesn't have any tattoos, but he loves my very prominent and visible work.

      • Posted By: pvitali @ 02/08/2008 3:12:07 PM

Wow, so much hate. I am a woman you moron.
I just said it looked tacky, and that is MY OPNION AND I AM ENTITLED TO IT. She is actually a good friend of mine who never showed it prior to the wedding and I was shocked. I DID NOT question the Love her partner has for her, all I said was that it took away from the romance of the wedding by having a dragon staring at you the entire time. Read thoroughly before you jump down someone's throat and make assumptions about them. Apparently you are a moron.
This thread was for people to express their opinions, not a battle ground.
I don't like tats and that's me, but do I hate people that have them? Of course not. That would be IGNORANT.

If you don't like tattoos on women, don't look. Women are not here for you to treat as a pice of the scenery.

First, to AlostThought, and your stupidity, it is VERY obvious you not only have no tattoos, but haven???t the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Comparing getting tattoos to smoking pot shows the idiot you must be. I???ll agree in regards to the smoking pot thing, but as for tattoos, there are SO many things you ???think??? you know, yet are entirely clueless???and for that, I???ll clue you in to a few of them. First, while not all tattoo artists are ???true??? artists, some of which who do no more than take pre-designed stencils & transfer them to the person getting the tattoo, there ARE others who ARE true artists. They are such accomplished artists that they hand draw the design they are to do on the persons skin using nothing more than a red pen. Doing tattoos this way requires a LOT of expression???not just ???doing what they are told???, to quote you, contrary to what you think. These artists are so accomplished at what they do that their names are known worldwide ??? Corry Miller, Kat von D, Ed Hardy, Anal Gupta, Pat Fish, and countless others. Secondly, getting a tattoo has nothing to do with making one feel like a ???superior human being???, again to quote you. It is strictly a form of artwork, with the person being the canvas. Now, I???m not talking about prison tattoos, which may be what you are thinking of, and if so, I???d be wondering just HOW you came upon YOUR beliefs regarding tattoos (hint, hint ???). I could keep going on and on, but why waste my time on someone who probably can???t even understand the most basic of things. I will leave you with one final thought???according to why you, we feel ???sorry for the ones who don???t have such an experience.??? Again, this just further proves your ignorance, for those of us who do have tattoos could, honestly, care less whether you have any or not. Our tattoos are for US, they express something about US, and whether or not you like them, WE could care less.

Posted By: ALostThought @ 02/08/2008 2:45:21 PMComment: After seeing the comments, I conclude that getting a tattoo is something like smoking pot. It is addictive, makes you a convert, makes you feel you are a superior human been, and pushes you to preach that doing this is the best thing that ever happened in your life, and feel sorry for the ones who don't have such an experience. I fortunately, am not willing to try either of these, pot or tattooing, I don't need these life engraving experiences. I know pot smokers and I don't like them, and for tattooing sounds to me you are missing something on yourself you don't know what, and try to get it through piercing or tattooing. It is like a primitive call to get control over something, people, pets, loved ones, even yourself, through a ritual of possession. As for "tattoo artists" they suck. Just look at them. They don't express something, they are simple technicians doing a job for money, they don't express their feelings or emotions, the

I ride a moped and think I'm cool. Would I be a good candidate for a tattoo. Please this is serious because cause my job at the supermarket could be in jeopardy if the tattoo of the barbed wire is not positioned correctly and may be visable to the public.

Klee1 if you work at a church why are you being so judgemental? People who live in trailor parks don't go to church?

    • Posted By: RN12 @ 02/08/2008 2:49:23 PM

And you know so much about trailer parks, why? Get out of your mullet, or farrah fawcett look, stop living in your misspent high school jealousy years, and grow up! You too can make something of yourself with a little effort, and not by jumping on the backs of others by putting them down. We state our earnings, employment and positions only in a effort to pull you out of the dark cave in which you live, into the real world, that you probably have NO idea who in your world might have tattoos perhaps even someone you respect, or wait, maybe you dont respect anyone.

I personally have had my eyeliner permanently applied, not once but twice. The first time hurt worse than child birth!!! Then I found the right person with the right anesthesia and hardly felt a thing!!! It is the most wonderful investment I have ever made!!!

    • Posted By: RyuKojo @ 02/08/2008 3:10:34 PM

I'm sure the person who did your eyeliner the first time was what we call 'heavy handed" That is one thing I always press people who want any kind of tattoo to look for. Inexperienced tattooers or 'heavy handed' tattooers are the ones that *can* scar you by over-working the skin. Do you homework and do some research on the artist you want. Lots of them have portfolios to show to the public. Watch for raised skin- which is a sign of scarring.

i am a 30yr old woman with 9 tattoos at various places. I been looked at and talked about for having that many. my feelings are that its my body i can do what i want to it. the most painful one that i have had done yet to date is on my right side going down to my hip area. which it is still not done yet. I been getting inked since i was 18. my feelings on where and what you get is "to each there own". just because someone has alot of tattoos dont' make them a bad person. I have met alot of people that have full body peices and they are the nicest people i have known. i hate being stereo typed as a bad person just because i have tattooos. not everyone is like that.

To KnuckleSandwich er whatever; Your assessment of me is equal to your intelligence = ZERO. Someone alot smarter than I once said "Nobody Gets Out Alive" and that also refers to you - sorry for the enlightenment

  • Posted By: deafiepotteraddict @ 02/08/2008 2:03:25 PM

Hey There! Not everyone that has tattoos are "trashy". I am a deaf senior at ASU, getting a MA/phd in English Literature. I plan to be a Professor or a high school teacher some day. I have two tattoos. One is on my upper left back shoulder, it is a tattoo of "I love you" symbol in Sign langauge. My entire life i struggled with Depression and my deaf idenfity. This symbol helped me to determinate my idenfity and helped me recover from all that teasing i had growing up. I slept through the tattooing of my I love you Symbol. My other one is On my left back leg a huge tattoo of Phoenix flying. for me it represents my indepedent, and my desire to be something unexpected. it also represents my hometown, and my favortive book Harry potter and the order of phoenix. tattoos for everyone is a personal decision. If you dont like tattoos, thats ok, thats your personal decision. Everyone has different views on thier personal lives, and shouldnt judge. As long everyone thinks long and hard about thier tattoos, it should be awesome for them. :)
    Happy tattooing!
i plan to get a other one on my ribcage of a orchid flower (represents my mom), and my dad's badge number wrapped around the orchid's stem (dads a police officer) and the beginning letters of my two siblings' names on the petal of the orchid, then under that will be "forever Watts" then later on, when i get children and a hubsand i will incorporate into that design.
    pretty cool?
    :)
    later!

i think it is great that you got a tattoo, especially of the signed symbol 'i love you'. i actually wanted that and may get that as well one day. it does not represent as much significance as yours; but it is worthy of display upon my body. i have a very dear friend who is deaf--his grandchildren (3 & 5) showed me the sign for i love you-i would modify it to also include (very much). additionally, i feel like a kindred spirit to you--two of my tattoos are representations of phoenix's (one a bird, the other a dragon). love the idea of the messenger. anyhow, good luck with your studies and inspiration! you are a perfect in my eyes.

I hope the last person to see your tattoo, appreciates the art work. That would be your local mortician.

11 years ago I was in a real bad car wreck and was in a coma for 6 weeks...After I came out of the coma and was able to take a shower I walkec by thr bathroom mirror and TOTALY FREAKED OUT...I had forgot about me having a tat of a red long stem red rose on my right shoulder blade BUt I thought it looked cool as hell....I did finally remember when I got it and I still have wanted another one...The next one I want is going on my left calf and I want a heart with a dagger or a dagger with a dragon wrapped around it...Tats are a COOL way to express yourself I think .

  • Posted By: Cynful @ 02/08/2008 1:25:18 PM

I have tattos and love them. Most people are just afraid of the possibility of the pain and I think they are jealous of those of us who have them. If tattoos are trashy, then why do most women want the "bad boys" that have them?

    • Posted By: JustMyOpinion123 @ 02/08/2008 1:28:56 PM

Jealous ... that's a good one. The women who want them are trashy too.

      • Posted By: Cynful @ 02/08/2008 2:18:45 PM

Your probably one of the women that have "10 screaming brats" and can't afford them because you spend it on beer.

        • Posted By: JustMyOpinion123 @ 02/08/2008 3:05:31 PM

Wrong, wrong and more wrong. I don't have any children; I have never been on welfare; and I don't drink beer. You can probably find people like this at your local tattoo parlor. Maybe you should look there.

      • Posted By: Cynful @ 02/08/2008 2:40:12 PM

Trash my dear is the people who have "10 screaming brats" that they can't afford in the first place and live on welfare and expect us to pay for it!

    Dear "ALosThought"
Comparing getting tattoos to smoking pot is extremely juvenile. I have three small tattoos HOWEVER I don???t smoke pot. Thank you very much for making an ass out of your self and assuming that one is like the other. For someone who has never done either, where do you get off thinking that you have the knowledge to comment on that?
For you to assume that people with tattoos are automatically "missing something on yourself you don???t what it is"...well, WOW. That???s quite the speculation. Ill have you know, that I am absolutely pleased with who I am, inside and out, with or with out tats.
Your generalization, of what people with tattoos are like, is completely ridiculous.
I am absolutely disgusted at your posting; I hope some one tells you that YOU SUCK at your job with out knowing a drop of information about who you are and what you put into your work, that isn???t seen by just scratching the surface???
    In fact...
    YOU SUCK.
Especially for passing so much judgment on people you don???t even know.

As someone who is about 30% covered in ink, I have seen many people coming into my tattoo shop where I get my work done, and they always ask me if it hurts. Of course it does, some less than others. But if you are dedicated to the art of it and can appreciate the time and effort that the artist puts into it then it can be one of the best experiences of life. I love the thrill of having a new piece done and I am in the process of sleeving my right leg in Batman. I hung out at the shop for a long time before I actually commited to getting one, and now I am addicted. A couple of pointers, find a good, clean and safe tattoo artist. Little Devil is the best, and the shop is always spotless. Secondly, make sure you get what you want, and where you want it. Most artists will customize a piece of flash (standard art on the walls of many shops) if you find something you like. And don't be afraid to ask questions or express concerns. They can't read your mind, and they hate the phrase "whatever you want!" It's your body, and you are going to be wearing it for a long time. Just go slow and make sure you are comfortable. If there is any doubt, don't do it. Better to find what you want then get stuck with a bad tattoo that you hate.
