Dear headlemk I was 62 before I got my first tattoo. My lady dragon on my lower back. I love her and so does my husband. My daughters thought I had lost my mind, my grandkids thought she was way cool. I wanted her for about 20 years but was an executive and thought it would be inappropriate during my working career. I also have my eyebrows tattooed and if not for the pain relief no way. My lower back was a breeze.

Out of curiosity, when was your lower back exposed during your executive years? Why would being an executive matter if your lower back was never exposed?

Just curious as to when your lower back was exposed during your time as an executive? Why would being an executive matter if the tattoo wasn't even showing?!

I really think that all you prudes should mind your own business. I personally do not like tats have none, but my daughter has 3 and is graduating college with honors, my son has two and has proudly served as a Marine for 2 years. SO THEREFORE DO NOT GENERALIZE!!!!!!

      amen to that

I my self have 2 tattoo's and I have one on my hip and on my ankle which didnt really hurt that much at all. Some people are different when it comes to pain. For the person that said that you can get cancer from a tat.....thats BS. For one thing ive never ever heard of anything like that ever happening before. Just because maybe youre closed minded doesnt mean you have to go around and telling people lies that you make up in your idiotic mind. For the person who said that girls with tats are sluts and will never get a date BS to you too! I have a boyfriend with whom ive been going out with for over a year and we started dating AFTER i got my tats. He thinks that they are great and they both have a meaning to me. And no he doesnt have any. So those that object to people having or getting tats then thats your own opion its 2008 wake up already!

Why would a beautiful girl want to ruin her body with tatoos?
Unless your trashy, then who cares anyway.
    What a misguided phenomenon.
Tatooed women can scratch my ***...

    • Posted By: mrsE @ 02/08/2008 1:19:27 PM

Tattooed girls are trashy?? This coming from a guy who's screen name is Ben_Dover. I have 5 tattoos all which are covered the majority of the time. Tattoos don't make a person trashy, they way they act does.

      • Posted By: Kentucky_Gal @ 02/08/2008 1:26:39 PM

        AMEN mrsE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: mrsE @ 02/08/2008 1:22:49 PM

This coming from a guy whose user name is Ben_Dover. You are just oozing class. I have 5 tattoos that all have special meaning and are actually covered a majority of the time. But none of my tattoos are raunchy or disturbing in any way. Having tattoos does not in any way make someone trashy. The way they act is what makes them trashy.

    • Posted By: shannonhj1217 @ 02/08/2008 1:22:47 PM

with a screen name of "ben dover"...... Who's trashy? WOW. It"s a good thing for you that ignoance is bliss. You"re probably one of those people in life that profess to be one kind of person, and then behind closed doors, you're secretly arroused by what you say you hate. Phobic , and judgemental. Good luck.

    • Posted By: Kentucky_Gal @ 02/08/2008 1:20:17 PM

How sad that there are so many judgemental twits out there. Is your name bend over because that is how you like it???? Just wondering. There are ALL types of pople in various Professions that have tattoos and you would never even know it because little minded people such as yourslef could be a boss or supervisor and alot of them feel like they have to cover them up because idiots such as yourself think it affects the job you do or the person you are without one single tattoo we all get a pretty good idea of what your pittyful personality is like.

    • Posted By: kittenkaboodle @ 02/08/2008 1:06:45 PM

You must be God to be able to judge & decide who's trashy & who's not.

Hey mortimer, glad to see little oinkers like you are still alive and well. No worries. Women with ink would NEVER date a little piggie like you anyway so, no problem. I'm 55 years old, have two nice, large gorgeous works of art on my body in places that no one other than my husband would ever see because I'm not a slut. Indeed, I'm a Christian woman who not only wears tattoos, but I even (GASP) cut my hair once or twice a year. I know ... it's shocking. I keep my ink private, between my husband and myself, and both of my designs took over 6 hours each. He's the one initially who wanted me to get my ink, and then I got into it wholeheartedly. He LOVES my artwork that was designed just for him. Have you ever had someone love you so much that they would go through 7 hours of rather extreme discomfort for something that would be seen only by you? I didn't think so. If you don't know what you're talking about, then shut up.

I have 5 tats and now have to get a sixth one because i have my hubby n sons names but i just had another lil boy so i have to get his cause he will always ask why i didn't get his. but im dreading the pain again!!!

I disagree with this article. The chest shouldn't even be in the list of most painful places. I have a dragon that literally goes from one side of my chest to the other side, and down part of my right rib cage. It was not painful at all. As for Mortimer and all the others calling us idiots, perhaps you should do more research before you make accusations about people being sluts, idiots or getting cancer from them. I am heavily tattooed and at 27, I am as healthy as an ox....and twice as stubborn. So, to all you people who don't like tattoos or tattooed people. Please keep your comments to yourselves....AN DO SHUT THE *** UP! Anyone who does not like my statements can freely take them up with me. Simply email me at Kennybernstienfan1@yahoo.com. While I won't promise you will like my response, I will promise you will get an honest reply.

Mortimer.. I don't think you'll ever have to worry about dating a girl with a tattoo. I think you'd be better of worrying about getting a date period.

  • Posted By: Sweetcherry4282 @ 02/13/2008 1:21:47 PM

I have four tattoos myself and I'm far from being a slut. It is my personal form of expression. These ink markings are meaningful to what I've been through and where I'm going. It's close mined people like yourself who make a judgment call on someone you barely know. Just say that me and Kim had the heart to get inked 4 times. You probably would faint if the needle touched your skin.

Mortimer - you are an idiot. Having a tattoo does not make a girl a slut. Pigheaded idiots like you are the only ones who still believe that to be true. Grow up. I have 4 tattoos (wrist, foot, back and hip) and people don't see them too often. They are not big or gaudy. They all mean something to me and ignorant fools like you put your stupid opinions here just to be ***.

The pain you experience when getting a tattoo is the price you pay. I believe even though you are paying someone money to put it on you, you earn the tattoo, you suffer a little to get it, proving your right to have it. If the fear of the pain is keeping you from getting one, then you dont want it bad enough. Ancient tribes tattooed there young men, who endured the pain, believing it a right of passage to manhood. I have a couple of tats, and have never, and will never use pain medication to dull the pain. It might sound stupid, but I dont believe Im the only one who feels this way.

    • Posted By: lorainedrop @ 02/13/2008 12:48:20 PM

I agree completely! Pain is part of the process - of the ritual if you will. The woman who did one of my tattoos has been doing it for over 25 years now, and she absolutely refuses to give any tat to any person who has used ANYthing to dull the pain. This includes alcohol, marijuana, opiates, other drugs, even ibuprofen. If she even suspects you have used a topical creme or any of the before mentioned she will send you out of her shop. It IS about the pain, it proves that you earned it. Thanks for your comment too bad everyone doesn't feel like you and I.

    I have a question.
Im going on 17 & thinking about getting a meaningful tattoo or really a in loving memory one of my grandparents. Does it hurt more or less to get it on the upper part of the arm? or lower?

    • Posted By: lorainedrop @ 02/13/2008 12:41:03 PM

Tattoos to remember a loved one are great. The only suggestion I have is maybe getting it on your shoulder blade or on your back or somewhere. Unfortunately, while many people accept tattoos these days, many still do not. I'm sure your grandmother would not want you missing a job opportunity because you have a tattoo on your lower arm. I have two tattoos and plans for more, but have them in places that I can show them or hide them depending on how I feel or where I'm going. Keep that in mind. I also have a tat on the top of my foot and I absolutely love it but I can agree that it is INCREDIBLY painful. Much more so than the one on my lower back. Anyway - there you go, just my opinion.

Wow some people crack me up! Only 2% of women get tattoos? That's your best guess? Keep guessing. I am a female, and I don't know of a single one of my female friends who DON'T have a tattoo. Some have more than one. I have a tat as well and have never once gotten discriminated against because of it. The people who say that we do are the ones who do the discriminating. If someone won't hire me because of it, then I don't think it would be beneficial to me to work for them anyways. I want an employer who hires me based on intellectual values instead of my outward appearance. I love how "some" say that women are beautiful without tattoos, that's fine. That's your personal opinion. Don't shove it on us. We don't care. I see more women getting tattoos than men. Think before you ink? I think you should think before you speak. You sound like a blabbering idiot. You can still be professional and have a tattoo. The day getting inked affects your brain capasity is the day I will rethink getting tattoos. Until then, bring on the ink!

As for the article, I think Newsweek didn't exactly do their research. It was a good article as far as a reporting/journalims aspect goes, but it wasn't exactly accurate. I don't know of anyone who has a tat on their eyeball, although I could see it for medical purposes. I think it would have been more accurate if they would have gotten the tattooed-up janitor out of the basement and had him report this one.
