I have 2 tattoos and absolutely love them both. One is 5 yrs old, the other 3 yrs old, and I've never regretted them for a second. I gave them lots of thought and planning, I waited a year with a design in mind before getting each one. It's definitely something that shouldn't be taken lightly, it is permanent and requires care while it heals. I work in a very large corporate office, so I chose to have both in places not visible during work. My 2nd one is a 3 leaf celtic clover (with the knots) between my shoulders, center upper back region. It's simple and elegant and I love the idea of how it's going to look in my wedding pictures (whenever I actually get married.) Both of my tats are very meaningful and personal, I'm of Scot/Irish heritage, thus the traditional clover. I have had SO many compliments on it from random strangers, my mom LOVES it, and my even my dad (who is very conservative) sorta likes it, which is pretty amazing coming from him. The area over my spine hurt, but it was never unbearable and I don't have a high pain tolerance. Everyone should research their artist and shop, check out people who've had tats done there. And of course, think it through!

Can't help-it. When I see a tattoo on a woman ... I think EASY and can I get in line?

    • Posted By: Panteragirl78 @ 02/08/2008 2:27:36 PM

What in the world does a tattoo have to do with whether or not a woman is easy? I suppose you also think women who wear sexy clothes and get raped deserved it because they looked like they wanted it? Don't be so shallow. It is so much uglier than anything you can see.

This article was written to promote the ego and business of the doctor who wrote it. Permanent Cosmetics done in the eye, lip, brow, and even cheek (blush) areas of the face can be painless if done by a professional who knows what they are doing. Local injections are more painful than the entire permanent makeup procedures, if they are completed with topical anesthetics used to numb the areas by professional Permanent Makeup Artists.

When you say, 'mons pubis', in the case of a woman, ( or mons venus), it sounds like you are including the vulva-which is not part of the mons pubis. Also, I'm curious as to whether any women or men have their glans clitoris or glans penis tatooed? I suspect this area would be the number 1 for pain, lol. ;) dannygjk@hotmail.com

I had a VCH (vertical clitoral hood) piercing, and it was surprisingly LESS painful than getting my naval pierced. I LOVE it. Best piercing EVER! I highly recommend it. :)

      • Posted By: amberb @ 02/08/2008 2:27:13 PM

I have also had a VCH, naval piercing and tongue piercing. The tongue piercing was the worst experience of the 3, as far as initial pain and healing process. The VCH hurt like a B*TCH, but only for a few seconds and has given me no trouble since then. The naval piercing hurt some, and was irritating for several weeks with wearing jeans, etc.

The tatoo is Generation Y's version of the mullet and will be similarly ridiculed by future generations.

Before you go judging people who choose to get TATTOOS, learn how to spell the word. It makes you seem more intelligent - "tatoo"

The article referred to henna tattoos and I was wondering if anyone had any bad experiences with them. I thought the idea of getting something temporary to see if I like it would be a good idea before I go permanent.

    • Posted By: msmuffet @ 02/08/2008 2:25:59 PM

I think getting a henna tattoo 1st in your desired artwork is a great idea. I tried one on my stomach, as well as a huge dragon down the center of my back, but found that I was too self conscious of them. This coming from someone with 4 tats....just not sure where to put # 5....

    • Posted By: Katz157 @ 02/08/2008 2:22:53 PM

Go for it! I did it myself as a trial before getting the real deal and it was the best decision I could have made. No bad effects at all and It looked great. It lasted much longer than I expected, about 3 months. No one even knew but me that it was not a real tat. Just be sure you use someone that does quality artwork so you don't end up with something really ugly.

Lol Geezer!! The NECK! Yeah I won't say that not's gonna hurt... But still, it's tissue. Trust me, the knuckles are the worst. Every four weeks I have to go back to my dermatologist and get a laser treatment on my left knuckles to remove that squid's("Artist", for the mentally challenged) mess. Unfortunately, knuckles do not leave much room for error, so covering up is out of the question. And since the majority of the tat is blue, they have to use the big gun.... And by the way I don't take the anesthesia. I'm not a freak but I do believe that pain is good for the spirit. In essence of the "That which does not kill you" ideal. And I have to say, the treatments hurt a heck of a lot worse than the tat! Nothing like reliving that moment every 4 weeks!! Stay away from Skin Art!! BTW, kind words RN12 :)

HEY KnuckleSWICH--I HAVE TWO FULL SLEEVES BUT NOTHING ON MY HANDS. I CAN SEE WHERE HAVEING THE FINGERS DONE WOULD HURT LIKE THE DEVIL. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I DID NOT EXPERIANCE VERY MUCH PAIN WHEN I HAD MY SLEEVES DONE. EVEN THE HEALING PROCESS WAS VERY LITTLE DISCOMFORT. I`M SORRY YOU GOT A BAD ARTIST. THERE ARE LOTS OF GOOD ONES OUT THERE. I HAD ALL MINE DONE BY THE SAME WOMEN. SHE IS REALLY GOOD AND IS LOCATED IN HANOVER ONTARIO CANADA. I`M VERY SATISFIED WITH MY TAT`S AND QUITE PROUD OF THEM---GEEZER.

    to knucklesswitch:

Why do find it so hard to believe that poeple that get more than one tattoo have an angry issues. I have two, my husban has just one-but it is large and it happens to be Grime Reaper. We are both normal people with No Anger Issues. We are taking our daughter and our niece in for their first tattoos.
You need to gain a better prespective, dump your out dated ideas of people. I got my first tattoo -cause my grandfather had two. The Queen of Hearts and the Ace of Spades-he was 85 when I git my first one-he was so proud that I did this. Thanks for your comment, but next time keep it to yourself.

To the 3rd commentor: I'm not a redneck by anymeans and I have 7 tattoos ; they all represent something special to me in mylife, yes some hurt and some did not, regardless, do not insult people when you have adsolutly NO idea what your talking about.!!

So does anyone know a good tattoo artist I could contact for a few more I'm looking to get?

      • Posted By: bluegyrrl @ 02/08/2008 2:24:23 PM

I think "good tattoo artist" is a bit of a generalization. Just as each painter or sculpter has their own style, tattoo artists have their own as well. From experience (2 tattoos), I found the best way to "shop around" is to go to the different artists, meet them in person and check out their portfolio of work they've done. Different artists excel at different topics (i.e. portraits, lettering, animals, flowers).

Last year I had gotten 4 tattoos within 1-1/2 month. I love them all. Never pictured myself with any, till my husband pasted away in 2006 and my oldest daughter said about getting one in memory of him. That totally surprised me my daughter wanted to get one. So went together and got them. I loved it so much. I love how he did it for me to remember the man I loved so much. I had that one put on the left side of my chest next to my heart. It didnt hurt like I thought it would. Two weeks later had my daughters names done on each ankle...didnt hurt at all. Two weeks after that I had one done for myself. A beautiful butterfly with tribal around it done on my back. That one hurt pretty much. But I would do it all again. And it all started with my daughter saying about getting one done for her dad that she loved so much.

I have 8 tattoos in varous places (neck, upper back, mid-back, inside each ear, each wrist and ankle). Each decision was weighed very carefully and there was a cost associated with some that had nothing to do with paying for the tattoo. I decided my love for tattos was more imporatnt thatn the job I had and took an initial pay cut to work somewhere my ink wouldn't be an issue.

Despite what TV portrays, many lawyers and accountants do not want an executive assistant with visible ink, no matter how good you are. Regardless, tattoos are my decision. I don't vare if my work is a "turn-ff" to a guy. If it is...he isn't the guy for me, so no harm no foul.

I agree that the elevel of pain s dependent on the person. I have a low hreshold but found that the inside of my ears hurt the least...my neck tattoo wraps around to just before my ears and that little sppor was the worst.

My only regret s my ankle tattoo becasue I was young (21...) and it was my first. I wa nprepared so it is a dolphin but no water! The regret is not the tattoo itself but the fact that it isn't finished. Someday I will go back and put a beauifu ocean scene behind it.

I have several tatt's and only regret 2, I got them when I was 15 years old by a friend "inspiring" to be an artist and but them on my hands. I am 35 a mother of 3 and now wish I didn't have those 2 tatt's. Some employer's don't like visable tatt's and I once missed out on a job I really wanted because of the 2 on my hand's. I love my other one's though and want more but now I know I am more selective on what I want and where it goes.

Klee1: depends on the amount of color, and the size. Ask your tattoo artist. don't be shy. They can range from 85 dollars up to and over 500 dollars. YOu can design your own, or give the artist an idea of what you want and they can design one for you. Just make sure you think it through and make sure it is something you really want. Or you might regret it!

to piggyback on the comment below..... tattooing is a form of self expression. be it anger, ego, what-have-you. so what! the problem is people who judge other people by the way they look or express themselves - fashion or lack-there-of. just be. m'kay?

  • Posted By: lastingimpressions @ 02/08/2008 2:19:37 PM

My husband is a tattoo artist and is completely covered in them, I love all of his art - it's a story of his life and even after all the time we've been together I still get caught up in looking at them. About the pain, each person is different, it all just depends on how your nerve bundles run and your pain tolerance. As far as people making rude comments about tattoos being trashy and what-not, he tattoos priests, cops, lawyers, executives, teachers, etc. That is no restriction on your profession or class in life when it comes to tattoos. I myself am a Purchasing Agent/Import Officer for a large company and work in a very professional environment. Yet I have 5 tattoos myself and many more planned AND a husband that is covered. Do not judge for the beauty we choose to show on the outside, but rather for the love and respect we present to the world.

I went back and re-read the article and it mentions nothing about getting a black henna tattoo. Just a henna tattoo. If someone else suggested it in this string, I can't find that either. Personally, I don't have a tattoo. They became "vogue" after I was too old to get one. Can't image anything sexy about a tattoo on a 60 y-o grandmother :-0! However my oldest son and daughter-in-law have them and they look fine on them. My youngest wants to get one and I'm glad he has to be 18 to get one in my state. He wants his brother with him and I think that's a wise decision. His big bro can keep him from getting something stupid.

I got my tattoo at the age of 55. My two adult daughters got the same design on the inside of out right ankles. The tattoo was drawn and designed by them. It bonds us together. The oldest daughter has 2 tats, and the younger has 6 counting the wrists as 2 seperate tats. 3 years later I am still looking for another design to have done. Painful? yes I was tense and it was the first experience. But it was something I wanted and worth it.

You're right...she won't be even to you...she will far surpass you. It must really suck to be so hateful...and to lack any kind of artistic nature. Do everyone a favor...pull your lower lip over your head and swallow, Hussy :)
