You know I bet half the people who are dising tattoos probably work and get along with people that have them and don't even know it. I enjoy going to wine tasteing events, getting dressed up to go to a high end restraunt, and I have 6 tattoos, my nose and lip pierced and have an anti-eye brow. I also have a wonderful daughter and ask any one who has met me and they would not classify me as ugly or trash.

People with tattoos are more open minded and b/c of that nicer people to be around then the hateful ones posting here.

Haha, I must admit to really enjoying cindysmiles' comment. Very good! I also have three tattoos though, and will admit the one on the top of my foot was quite painful and requires more touch up then the other two. Wouldn't know about the lower back tattoo though, don't have one. I thankfully did take the 101 course.

I have 7 tattoos and I am planning on getting several more. The last one I got is on my upper middle back and was the most annoying but worth it. As for judgements, give it your best shot. I win every battle and can dish it nastier than you. Hey, my body, my rules! And as far as jobs go, never had a problem there. A job has to do with your work ethics, etc., not tattoos (unless it's a hate race design, etc). People, really, let's fight for what matters...LIFE!

she had me @ 38 year old mother with tats

Babybare1050- I hold a high executive position with a well known reputable company...who knows perhaps I am your boss or a fellow coworker who sits besides you in meetings and yet you would never know I am tattooed. To say people with tattoos have no self esteem, no class and do not dignify themselves with the finer things in life is a bold and presumptuous statement. You are putting all inked people into once social class and I must tell you that you are sorely mistaken.

Good posting. I am 47 a businesswoman and mother of two. Although I do not have a tattoo currently I've often thought of getting one. Problem is that my husband agrees with those who have posted generalizations in that I would be white trash if I got a tattoo. Don't know how he comes up with that after 17 years of marriage......

In reference to tattoos being trashy and trendy, I disagree. I'm a home school mom, Sunday school teacher, I volunteer for hospice and I have 5 tattoos, including one that covers my entire calf and a full back piece (Noah's Ark). True, some trashy people have them but also some very normal people do too. Different strokes, remember.

To me giving birth to kids is a h-e-l-l of a lot more pain then tats.

Could someone give me a rough estimate on the cost of a tattoo? I am thnking of getting one in simple black. Only six words, lettering about 3 inches high - it would say look at my ugly tattoo girls! Is that hot or what?

Depends on the amount of color and the size of it. They usually vary from about 85 to over 500 dollars. Ask your tattoo artist. Don't be shy, they will tell you. YOu can even have them design one specifically for you or... you can design your won! It is really wonderful. Just make sure this is something you really really want. Or you can regret it. Think it through first!

I admit to finding tattoos distasteful. I'm not saying those who like them should be drawn and quartered, simply that they are not for me and when I see them, I think they are out of place or simply don't belong where they are. They are indeed your right to "freedom of expression" But I wonder if those of you are spitting mad at those oppose your opinions to tattoos would agree with your own posts if or when you see the racist animals who have swastikas or "DIE NI**** DIE" or White Power tattooed on their bodies as their form of "freedom of expression" I've seen such tattoos and as a knee jerk reaction, cringed....I was met, every time with obsene guesters, profanity and rudeness. They are, like any of those who chose tattoos simply expressing their "freedom of expression" I assure you, those who chose to have these testiments of their hate permenantly inked on their bodies have a story and meaning behind each of their tattoos like you do. If you have them and it's what you want, great. But can't you just agree to disagree in the matter? If you're going to put your expressions on your skin in incredibly obviously visable places and expect it to be accepted, accept that not everyone's going to like it or react they way you do to them.

I am 41 and have 4 boys and a husband, my latest tatoo was my 40th bd present. Betty Boop on my ankle. I have 5 so far and am working on the design for my next one, my husband after we were married got one to honor his and my heritage and the death of his father and my nother(in the same year) My son got one when he turned 18 and my other boys will get one then too. I did make them wate till 18, but if they want one I try to advise them to make sure it will be something they can live with for the rest of their lives. I have one on my left breast, back, both ankles, stomach and groin. the one on the lower back I think hurt the worst, but it does go half way up my spine and i am a petite person, so it hurt. I have a full time job and 2 business outside of my job as an Insurance agent, my husband works and my children are all good students with jobs too! I think the people who are predijuce over tatoos are wrong, there are alot more things to worry about in life than someone elses! some tats can be tacky while others i would print and put in a frame on my wall if I could...also my brother is a tatoo artist and that is what they are ARTISTs! have a great day

Wow, this article sure brought out the crazy anti's didn't it? I thought this was America the land of the free. It is obvious, that the people who don't have tattoos have a huge ego and have no room for anyone of differing opinion or lifestyle. The labels that have been hung on people and the name calling are the worst. If you are against tattooing why on earth did you even read the article or worse yet respond? If you can't find room for someone who has a tattoo what else do you have on your adjenda? Don't call people names just because they don't agree with you.......I am 56 years old and have a tattoo as a result of a profound experience that saved my life and I thank God everyday for it. Does this make me a redneck? Does this mean I have low self esteem? Does this mean I am trash? I think not! Don't judge me or anyone else for that matter just because it is not what "you" consider right or proper!

I couldn't have said it better myself. Tats are an expression of your feelings representing events in your life. I'm sure there are the occasional drunken decision, but a reputable artist wouldn't let that go forward.

Do the young ladies (and older) getting tattoos have any idea how UGLY they are, AND that they last a lifetime!

    • Posted By: Housemouse50 @ 02/08/2008 1:53:11 PM

Peter Fonda Put it best "A tattoo is a reflection of your soul, something from the INSIDE that you put on the OUTSIDE." Sometimes it doesn't have to be pretty to be profound and meaningful. Perhaps, you might take another look.

Do you realize that everyone has different tastes? I don't like steak but I don't around and say "Steak is so gross. People who eat it must be stupid." Seriously. Think about it. Just because you think something is ugly doesn't mean everyone else does. Also - people certainly know that they last a lifetime, which is why they get them instead of henna or the peel off tattoos they have at amusement parks. My tattoos all pertain to different members of my family and I'm glad they will be there for my lifetime.

your so judgemental.....I bet your uglier than both......people who judge are uglier than all the people in the world and you need to learn to respect art when you see it!

I have tow tattoos and am planning my third. I have one on the top of my left foot and one on my neck and upper back. To tell you the truth the one on my neck bothered me the most. The one on my foot was a cake walk!! I realate the feeling of getting a tattoo to an annoying sunburn but it goes away just as fast as it started!!!! I enjoy the "High" that a tattoo gives me, and for those who don't have one yet you wouldn't be able to understand that feeling!!!! It's awesome!!!

  • Posted By: Klee1 @ 02/08/2008 2:13:26 PM

    tkbone gets it !!!!!!!

    Thank you.

I hope the last person that see's your tattoo appreciates the art-work. That would be your local mortician.

  • Posted By: artisticlover @ 02/08/2008 1:45:20 PM

Tattoos are awesome, those who are against them are total PRUDES you afraid to express yourself too freely, its sad you judge people who tattoo themselves and call them "ugly" We tattoo because we look at our bodies like empty canvases that we want to show the world how beautiful we can decorate it ( its self expression, too bad all you anti-tattoo people out there aren't artistic-pathetic! )

    • Posted By: Rizor @ 02/08/2008 2:13:01 PM

Tattoos are awesome but you have a very one sided opinion. YOU believe the body is a canvas ...fine.. other people that don't get tattoos are not prudes. It could be religous....they might believe the body is a temple and they don't want to desecrate it. It's sad YOU judge people because they do not have a tattoo. Sometimes tattoos are ugly or inappropriate because of profanity. Yes it is self expression, too bad all
      you pro-tattoo people out there aren't artistic-realistic.

Didi65...YES! After getting a tat I feel like I've gotten a deep, relaxing massage. I float out of the studio with my body flooded with endorphins. It's like nothing else. Even hearing the needle on TV (Miami Ink, et al), makes me feel relaxed. Yay! I'm not alone! *grins*

    • Posted By: Didi65 @ 02/08/2008 2:12:38 PM

I know IT! IT'S the endorphins or something. I thought I was the only one who felt that way LOL!

Comment: i am not putting people down who have tattoos. however, as a general rule, a guy with LOTS of
tattoos has an anger or ego problem, or both. i do not seem to notice the problem with women.

rgb.... Red, Green, Blue.... hmmmm.. I wouldn't think that someone with such a colorful name, could only think in black and white.. I think you missed the headline from earlier... "People with tats have high self-esteem". So, maybe the ego thing is a misinterpretation of one's abundance of esteem. As for the anger issue.... I'd be pretty angry too, if you kept classifying me as egotistical and one of the "Guys". Sorry but I'm not one of your ex-boyfriends.

The article referred to a henna tattoo and I was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with them. I thought it would be a good idea to start with something temporary to see if I like it before I go permanent.

I recently got a tat on the top of my foot. Did it hurt? Of course it did, but I was so happy with it, the pain didn't matter! I, too, am a professional woman that surprises a lot of people when they see that I have a tattoo. It's not the only one I have! I personally like the look on people's faces when they learn that I have tattoos, and that my 3 kids think I'm a "cool mom" because of it. FYI: the tat on my foot is dedicated to my awesome kids that I've raised by myself for almost 13 years. If people don't like tattoos, look the other way! I may not like the clothes you wear, but I don't judge you!!!

I am a proffesional woman with 2 kid, 2 college degrees and 7 tattoos. I also like the reaction I get when people find out I have tattoos. My kids refer to me as the hippie mom. My daughter and I got matching ones for her 18th birthday and her friends were envious of that.
