Tats are not tacky trailer park trash items. I live in a home with a wife and two kids. My wife isn't thrilled about tats but loves what my ARTIST did with my ideas. I have a tat honoring America and 9/11. I also have a tat honoring my grandmother's British heritage. I am even planning on another tat to show my love for my two kids.

Don't really understand the hate some of you have for people with tattoos. Calling people who have them trashy and whatnot. Is there a dark secret you are trying to hide? Was your daddy a piece of white trash covered in tattoos? Did he hit you? Did he touch you and tell you not to tell anyone? Did you have to stare at his tattoos while he sat on the couch shirtless drinking beer and watching He-Haw reruns? Is this why you assume everyone who has one is trashy?

I have a tattoo on my ankle and it didn't hurt that much either. My friend had one on the fleshy part of her outer thigh and she was in serious pain.

Lighten up "amberb". To each his or her own! It's their bodies. I'm sure that you are perfect! (Maybe in your own perfect little world!)

I think you may have misunderstood my comment. I was quoting and replying to another comment on this topic. I myself have two tattoos and piercings as well.

Also for those who are saying that tattoos on a women are a turn-off - those of us women with tattoos really don't care because we typically aren't attracted to men who don't like tattoos. If I turn you off, good...then I won't have to deal with you. I'm not attracted to men who shave their chests but I'm not off posting negative comments on an article dedicated to male shaving.

well said? tatts on women isn't so much a turn off as it's a cliche, like a guy w/a goatee or earring.

        • Posted By: Panteragirl78 @ 02/08/2008 1:58:46 PM

That is your opinion. Your opinion is not shared by everyone. A cliche? Not every tattoo is the same. Perhaps the very popular tattoos (butterflies, tribal designs) are a bit cliche but some people genuinely have connections to their tattoos. Most people who get tattoos do it because they want it, not because everyone else is doing it.

Tattoo's are one's choice and it's a choice of independence...True I have never had a tat. done but I have never really found/decided on what would be ideal for me. Those who oppose them or judge them is wrong. Did I say it was wrong ? It's wrong...Society can find other things to complain about like chldren dying to abuse, genocide occuring in other countries, weapons in the hands of minors, and on and on. There is enough bigotry in the world to worry about someone having ink done. Tattoo's are a ritual in some tribes, so why can they not be ritual to an independent soul? It's called freedom for a reason folks. Before I get off my soapbox employers need to be more understanding that tat's are going to be on individuals and need to not discriminate, they just might be losing the best canidate they could have ever found, and those people who turn and frown need to look within themselves and remember they are not perfect either....Have a good day folks

Last October, I got my first tattoo. It was trial by fire since I got it on the top of my foot. All I can say is "HOLY CRUD" did that hurt. Even the owner of the tattoo parlor shuddered "Eck... foot tattoo" as he walked by during my session. Now, when a man with full sleeves says that... it's got to be pretty bad. I definately wouldn't recommend foot... get it somewhere fleshy.

I got my first tattoo when I was just 20 , my second one when I turned 62 and I love them both.

It's so great to see the miopic views of people. Tattoo's are scars with better stories.

    • Posted By: JustMyOpinion123 @ 02/08/2008 1:27:09 PM

And scars are ugly too. Your point?

      • Posted By: beenthere @ 02/08/2008 1:58:59 PM

Unthinking prejudice is uglier by far than any scar or tattoo on the planet.

SOMEHOW,, YOUR COMMENT KEEPS GETTING REPEATED. SO--STOP IT. DO YOU HAVE EAR RINGS? THAT IS ALSO A FORM OF SELF-MUTILATION, BUT A COMMON ONE AND ACCEPTED BY 99% OF PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED LEAVES A SCAR ALSO. ELIZABETH, PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE. (USE ANOTHER WORD BESIDES MIOPIC-YOU SOUND LIKE A BORED GONE NOWHERE COLLEGE GRAD).

I have a tat on my ankle. And I didn't think it was painful at all. I was surprised "the ankle" was listed as one of the "painful" areas to get a tat. Also, my son has 14 tats AND he doesn't have any mental issues! Each one of his tats have a meaning...His kids, family members and passed on family members that were dear to him...They look awesome and are so beautiful...

I have three tattoos. One of them is very low down on my pubic bone. I am married and my husband doesn't really like tattoos but I still do. Even if the "horror" of having a name put on my bicep might seem dumb to others, it is part of who I was at the time and who I still am. Devoted and passionate. I find tattoos beautiful, cool, sexy, and interesting.

  • Posted By: lacy_d123 @ 02/08/2008 1:57:26 PM

A lot of women have something personal - cool. :-) I think if you get one, it should mean something. I have a rose with my son's initials. It's on my shoulder and hidden unless I choose to show it off. (Didn't hurt a bit! My BIL got one on his shoulder after drinking - his bled and hurt!) I've seen descrimination because of tattoo's before, so I chose one where I wouldn't have to cover it up everyday. I think people still have the old idea that tattoo's are 'bad' becasue only sailors used to get them. If you want one, seriously think about where you want it, what you want it to say and then go for it. If you can see yourself having it in 20 years, go for it.

I have a tattoo behind my ear and it did not hurt at all.

  • Posted By: josie5811 @ 02/08/2008 1:56:17 PM

Wow... To all of you who arent so closed minded good for you. For those of you who feel you sit on the throne with God and should judge I feel bad for you. I have 5 tats. All are hidden under clothes. I have several piercings (also hidden). I am a mother, a paralegal (who kept a 3.8 in school), a wife, and many other things. I guess I didnt realize that having tattoos make me so white trashy. Like many others have said, it's ok to have your opinion and to think tattoos look bad, but if any of you (who seem to stereotype those of us with tattoos) honestly believe a tattoo gives us lower intelligence or makes us trashy it seems that you should be the ones stereotyped as people of lower intelligence! Grow up

  • Posted By: mythoughts1200 @ 02/08/2008 1:56:01 PM

I used to think that tattoos would hurt way too bad, then I got my navel pierced and decided that if I could do that, a tattoo would be "cake." I then got a tattoo, and love it. Both my piercing and tattoo are only shown when I decide to allow someone else to see them. By the way, I got both done at 45 years old. I am very educated, and successful in my career, make great money (I won't be getting a tax rebate check), and among individuals who don't know me and some that do, I would be voted most likely not to do either. You cannot judge someone by the way they choose to express themselves or by the art they choose to display, in a home or on their body. Assuming that someone is trashy or scum because they have tattoos is as bad as assuming someone is a snooty witch, because they don???t like them. If you don???t like them, don???t get one, but don???t criticize those who do. Freedom of choice is what America is all about! Have a great day!

    3 things...
    A) if you don't like tattoos and think they're disgusting why did you read this article or post on here in the first place?
    B) secondly, none of us tattooed people care what you think? Really! We actually kind of like that our being tattooed irritates you, just shows us the level of YOUR insecurity. Thanks for the entertainment!
    C) some people get dumb tattooes... it's true but for the most part I see a lot of people getting tattoos for very good profound reasons... maybe they lost a child, mother... maybe they have gone through some really hard things... how DARE you judge someone unless you've walked at least a mile in their shoes! Judge not lest ye be judged!

I can attest to the ankle tattoos! Those hurt pretty good. They missed one place though, on the inside of the arm. I'm talking about the part from your elbow to your shoulder. My fiance is a tough Marine who rarely acknowledges pain but after one tattoo on the inside of his arm he commented on the discomfort. Yikes!

I have a tattoo behide my ear and five other ones everywhere on my body and the one behind my ear was the less painful. It did not hurt at all.

I have a beautiful large tattoo of a galaxy of stars with some neon larger stars thrown in. It's on my breast with one arm of the stars reaching the center. It took about 6 hours to get done, and it didn't hurt much at all. The only part that made me hold the arms of the chair and grimace a little was above the sternum where there isn't any fat between the skin and the bone underneath. Other than that no problems at all, even at the most sensitive center. I keep it covered most of the time with the blouses I chose, but on the weekends during the summer it is proudly displayed! I had been in banking 15 years when I got the tattoo and now 15 years later I don't regret it one single bit. For those who think they're trashy you must not be Christian because there's phrase "judge not - lest you be judged". Others may have some negative thoughts about your appearance also...
