I agree with you Shannon. I have six tattoos myself, all of which have a personal meaning and are of significance, in one form or another, to ME (others don't have to, nor do I care if they do, understand or like them). I have no regrets in getting any of them. To "Babybare1050", I think YOU are the one who is of low class and low self esteem (typically, individuals who have to put others down to lift themselves up, are).

Yes - the top of the foot and toes are really painful!! I did take some pain killers first but they didn't help much (I have a tattoo around my toes and the webbing of your toes is also EXTREMELY sensitive) but seeing the finish product, I would do again, it's totally worth it!!

I have a tattoo on the second toe of my right foot, not only was it painful but the color wears off very fast. I had to have it recolored about 6 months after I first had it done. The recoloring of it was more painful than the first because the artist used a very fine needle and did it deeper so the color would stay longer. I have had it recolored for about 2 years and it has not faded very much at all.
I do believe that if one should decide to get a tattoo then it should mean something to that person versus getting one jusst for the sake of it.
Hope you all have a great day and a better weekend!

As you can see from the comments below, this article really has no relevence. the author probably has no tattoos so obviously hasn't researched this topic completely. it all really varies. It really depends on the person, what the piece is they're getting tattooed and the artist. some artists have softer hands than others. i have 6 tats including one behind my ear and it was the least painless out of all my tattoos. the most painful ones is probably my back which took 6 hours of some one digging in their needle as hard as they could and the band of stars i have around my ancle mainly because it crosses path with my tendent.
I think this article is giving people the completely wrong idea about the whole sub-cultures of tattoos and making it harder for this society to accept them. tattoos are not really painfull, im not saying they're painless but you need to earn your body art. And removing tattoos, im sure is painful, but nobody gets tattoos to get them removed, if so you don't deserve to get body art in the first place.

Funny.... none of these places even come close to comparison.... First of all, none of you have a clue what you are talking about. Lips, underarm, panty lines..... Try KNUCKLES. Then lets hear ya whine about pain....

I have a few tattoos myself. I have one on my lower back, one on my ankle and stars on my right rib cage. Out of the three I have the one on my lower back towards the sides was the most painful. My rib cage didn't hurt at all. I was very nervous and couldn't even hold the piece of paper still that the design was on. I asked my artist where it would hurt the most and he told me up around my boob so I had him start there first. However, to my surprise not much pain at all. It tickled more than anything from the vibration. I'm not little nor am I a big girl but honestly it was the only tattoo that did not hurt. I honestly think it hurts more over fatty tissue than directly over the bone. I also have been told that girls have a higher tolerance for pain that men but thats only hear say. I aslo think that if you're going to get a tattoo you need to make sure that its something that you will not regret later on seeing how they are permanent. However, being a girl with tattoos I think that there are some pretty trashy tattoos out there but then again that is on some pretty trashy too. I'm sure some people may think mine are trashy but thats their opinion. Sorry if I offended anyone but thats just an opinion. An we all know opinions are like *** everyones got one!

I am wanting to have the yin and yang symbol tattooed on my pubic area, is this going to be painful

    • Posted By: sacredhrt114 @ 02/08/2008 1:19:43 PM

Depends on where you're talking EXACTLY... I've heard that the genital region is actually quite... pleasurable to some... it was also one of the most meaningful tattooes I've ever heard about also... but if you're talking about around the panty line region, then there are a few spots that might get a rise outta ya!

actually I was thinking more below the panty line...

I have a small tat on my wrist. I can wear a watch over it , however if the watch slips or I forget it people notice you have a tat and they may not say anything but you may get the feeling that they now think less of you. I got the tat when I was 18 now I am 34, I am the vice president of a financial services company in fresno ca. I never would have thought my life would go in this direction, I work with a lot of conservative people. You never know where you skill set will take you in life. I would recomend a temporary tattoo.

Mine's multi-colored, across my lower back and hips, dipping towards, well, let's say it looks great when I wear way-way low hip huggers. At first it hurt, but I got my tattoo FOR the pain; my mother had just passed and I was having a tough time bringing my grief to the surface. The pain turned into more of a ''hot buzzing' numbness (for lack of better wording) and that's the point I started to cry - for my mother. The reason you get one - at least to me - helps determine the pain level.
    But that's just me.

Sorry about your mom... happy to hear you got something for the right reasons! I'm the same with the pain! I LOVE IT!

I got my tattoo about a year ago and love it.It took about two and a half hours. The first hour was different but didnt feel alot of pain. The last hour and a half I slept cause it was very relaxing. The person doing the tatt said he has never had anyone fall asleep during a tattoo. My wife has tatts and i think its great. I love them.

I have tattoos and love them. I say people are just afraid of the possibility of pain and a bit jealous of us who have them. If tattoos are trashy then why do most women want the bad boys that have them!

I am a 38 yr old mother of 5 and I go to church every Sunday. My tattoos are private and no one sees them unless I show them to them. I am not a redneck. How dare you call me trashy. If you saw me at a PTA meeting you would probably vote me the one least likely to have a tattoo. There are a lot more people with tattoos than most people realize. As far as them being painful, I would describe it as being more annoying than painful.

First of all if your stupid enough to get a tatoo that you will eventually have taken off. You desirve to feel the pain.
Also, Tatoos are percing the skin.... dummy it will hurt. I personally love the pain and with 10 tatoo's going a complete body cover there is a sensation of pleasure and pain. I think most people don't realize that a tatoo is perminate and people don't think it threw. My first tatoo was picked out and I took a whole year to make sure that I was happy with it and knew it would be there forever. Pian . . . Bring it on.

Maybe you should use some of the money you're wasting on tattoos to learn how to read and write.

It's true.... not enough people think about their tattoo choices.. it's one of the hardest parts of my job! But, occasionally I will give them the "are you really sure that's what you want forever" speech! and not everyone will eventually have their tattoos removed...

I am a conservative 49 year old mom with two sons (18 & 24) who have chosen to get tattoos. I wasn't thrilled about it at first, but in the big picture of life---it is so minor! Their individual tattoos are expressions of their unique personalities and these brothers are as different as night and day! As a mom, my relationship with my children is more important than the tattoo!

I have five tattoos and LOVE them all. I got my first one on the back of my neck, I have one on the back of each calf, I have one that crosses my shoulders between the blades, and I have one on my hip. I don't think that tats are at all trashy...those that think this are so closed minded. As a matter of fact...unless you see the one on my neck you would never guess that I have any tattoos and they are all (other than the one on my neck and hip) pretty large in size. I can cover them if I choose and show them whenever I feel the urge to do so. I work in an office and lots of folks are surprised to find out that I am covered with them. So....to all of you tat haters...sucks to be you. If you don't like what you see...shut your eyes. It wouldn't bother you so much if you didn't secretly want one!!! And...only the ones on my hip and shoulders hurt...and only a little bit. See ya!!!
