Mankinda cracks me up! Only 2% of women getting tattoos? Are you kidding? Every single one of my girl friends have tattoos. Some more than one. I would have an easier time counting the women I know that don't have one, instead of the ones who do. Also, I have never ever seen anywhere that tattoos cause cancer. I research everything before I go through with it. Never did I see that. I have one tattoo already and have never once gotten discriminated against because of it. I have gotten compliment after compliment. I don't think that I would want to work for someone who judges me on my tats or piercings anyways. You can still be a professional person and have tasteful body art. Think before you ink? You need to think before you speak. You sound like a blabbering idiot.

On the subject of Newsweek, they need to actually have a reporter who has gotten a tattoo. Pain is different for every individual. They should have reported on the more popular places to get a tat instead of the places that make most people go, "Who in the world would get that done?" They should have brought up the janitor who works in the basement that's covered from head to toe with tattoos to do this article. Guarantee it would have been better written and more accurate than this.

I have only one tattoo and of course being a young woman, I opted to get it on the lower middle of my back. It did not hurt me, it was more like an irritation, like described above. I do not regret my tattoo. I do have plans for more. I feel that if one decides that they would like to get a tattoo, that it is best to chose something that has a meaning behind it. I just feel that people that go out and get a tattoo just because they saw so-and-so got one that now they have to get one, is just rediculous, dont do it because someone else did, do it because you want to and because its something that you have decided on for a while then get one. Just remember a tattoo is permenant, it is with you forever! And laser surgery is like buying a house, expensive, so please dont fall under the worlds preasure and get one cause half your friends have them but because you are really sure that its something that you want. That doesnt just go for high school kids, but everyone really, its not just the high school kids falling under this preasure but everyone. I would like to see more articles like this in the future, you dont often hear too much about the art of the tattoo.

ok first of all it is not a known fact that tattoos cause skin cancer. Myself and most of my friends themselves have tattoos and are acquainted with artists who have been in the business for years and years and have never seen such a case. To make such a claim with no facts or studies to back it up is idiotic. Oh and btw... even though I spend my money on tattoos, I also find the time and money to donate to charity. Dont judge people just by what they consider art and beautiful. Next time you decide to comment an article, don't make outrageous claims and judgements about something you know nothing about.

I'm training in medicine. Your statement makes me curious...mind linking me to the journal with the specific study you're referencing? I know it's not in NEJM. I'd be interested in seeing such a study...in my years of working at clinics I've never seen skin cancer brought on by tattoo work. The inks are really quite safe, from what I've seen...usually the cases I see are overexposure to the sun.

I'm training in medicine. After years of study, I'm not sure that I'm clear on which study you're referencing. Mind providing a link to the medical journal? I know it's not in NEJM. That's an interesting statement. Most of the inks used in tattoos today haven't been cited as particularly harmful...I've never had any cases in my clinic of patients with tattoo induced skin cancer. A much greater concern in that vein is overexposure to the sun.

My tattoo on my right bicep is pleasureable to wear and was worth the hot scratch feel...in fact I am looking forward to 2 or 3 more tattoos

Silly article. Who really gets their eyeball tatted? I mean really.
I have a quarter-sized tat behind my left ear and it didn't hurt nearly as much as the two on my wrists. The worst part was the annoying buzzing so close to my ear.
Also have a large tiger tatted on my breast...that didn't hurt at all.
This article isn't very useful or factual. I am however, curious as to way it seems to be geared towards us women.

This article is rather silly. Does anyone know people who get eyeball tats?

I disagree with the listing, I am tatted from hip to armpit, with wings covering my abs, ribs, 'floating rib', kidney, and hip. The hip, abs tickle, the armpit burns but bearable, and the kidneys cause your body to convulse as it feels like it is being damaged. there is no way to stop your body from its natural defense. Unless i read the above wrong, as only above the cage, then yes it is not that painful, but if your including the cage, then higher on this list is where it deserves to be. Unless you weigh 500 lbs, then you might not even feel a thing.

my first tattoo was from my right hip to arm pit, with wings spanning on the outside of my right abs and opposite over my kidneys. Unless i read the above wrong, the ribcage is A LOT more painful than described on this list. I love my tatt, and it has great meaning to me, and when i sat for 4.5 hours straight, with still 2 more hours to go for final coloring and touch ups... The most painful is over the kidneys. Your body is thinking something is attacking it, and is causes you to convuls. (sp?) so those of us who dare for the cage tatt...it might not be as painful, but from someone who is tatted up from hip to armpit, the hip bone tickled, the armpit rippped, and the kidneys feel like the artist is putting his two hands in your skin and ripping it apart.

I am a high school teacher in China, yup, i am Chinese...anyway, Chinese people have a very 'traditional' idea that those who wear a tattoo are not 'decent'...(kinda speechless, huh?) to hell with that, i got one on my right hip, and when i was getting it done, i kinda enjoyed the pain, ha ha~~you guys have no idea how people will react, for example, my headmaster, if they see my tat~~people gonna be freaked out, i am telling ya~~and there will be no school hiring a person who wears a tat on a visible spot~~but i am getting another one, cuz i do feel getting tattoos is addictive~~

There sure are a lot of people responding to this who think it is a place to ventilate their prejudices. Wake up. Reread the article. It's about the pain, not how big a pain you can be by virtue of your prejudices.

Hey JessieE..we all know what assume means.....LOL.....I am a Human Resource manager and have been for over 25 years and I have yet to not hire anyone who wasn't qualified to do the position for which they were applying for that had tats or piercings....or even both....anyway it is not for me to judge..that is up to a higher power....some people have yet to get that....

I'm sorry, are you talking to me? Aren't we on the same side? LOL

I'm a guy, 52, and started getting tattoos when I was about 25. I only have six now, but I'm sure I'll get more, when I decide what and where I want them. And, in my opinion, tattoos can be very "alluring" on a woman as long as they are tasteful. As with any art or makeup, some can look trashy, but most I have seen are quite nice looking and very tastefully done.

I am a school teacher I have a visable tat on my ankle and one on my toe. It has never stopped me from getting work. I think since it is of a non threatening, non political and non offensive thing tat's are permissable. Probably not in a fortune 500 company but hey how many people work for one of them. If a company does not like me because I dare to be an individual then its prpbably not a good fit anyway.

Lets see. Im 50 and I have 4 LARGE tats. I work as a Flight Simulator Technician and have 3 college degrees. I have a house on 3 acres and a second rental property all here in Central Fl. Most people I know have tats. My Dentist has tats and so do most of the girls in her office. So just because you don't like or understand something (you"re probably just to chicken) don't judge others on what you don't understand!

I am a HR manager and I do not hire an applicant on the outside looks and if you show up for an interview with me you should show up on time, with clean clothes, and have taken care of personal hygiene....if the person with tattoos, piercings or both, is qualified for the position that they are applying for I do not have a problem with that at all....so as far as intelligence level of individuals with tattoos are concerned use another excuse to be rather prejudicial in your comments

  • Posted By: No tattoos @ 02/12/2008 7:50:41 PM

A lot of people who are in a position to hire you or otherwise help you in life ARE prejudicial. They are prejudicial about how you look, how you present yourself, how mature you appear to be and what kind of judgement you exhibit. And, I might add, it says a lot about the intelligence level of people with tattoos when most of them think the word is spelled "tattoo's." Their punctuation is as bad as their judgement.

I have a career in psychology and have never once been turned away because of my tats. I've lived all over the U.S. and have encountered many people in my career who do not judge as you do. You assume that you know what will happen to people who have tats but yet you have no expericence with it. Interesting.

I am 50 and I resent the comments of the two closed minded individuals...I have 2 tattoos right now and I plan on getting a few tasteful ones here in the near future.....anyway what does 50 or age have to do with this anyway? It is more a personal preference...if you don't like them then don't get them but don't dis anyone who does have them and likes to receive them..so who should do the growing up?
