I have three tattoos. A nautical star on each wrist and a sacred heart on my right foot, which covers the whole thing up. The foot tattoo hurt BY FAR worse than anything I have ever felt. It was completely worth it in the end though. If you have low pain tolerance (which I have high), do NOT get a tattoo on your foot!

I Just Got My First Tattoo In June And Its A Big Butterfly Peice On My Left Hip That Runs Up To My Ribs And I Thought It Tickled More Than Hurt. I Pratically Laughed The Whole Time. I Think The Pain Came In When The Tattoo Artist Went Over The Scar I Had From My Appy Lappy Thats Why I Got The Tattoo Was To Cover It Up.

Don't get it twisted people!! Tattoos are painful!!! If you absolutely hate needles, this kind of art is not for you. Pain is the first thing you have to deal with; second there is a 1-2 week healing period (depending on how big your tattoo is) where you MUST take care of it properly. Lotion or neosporin must be applied to deal with itching and scabbing; it will itch like hell but you CANNOT scratch or else you will mar your tat PERMANENTLY and all the money and pain you went through will be for nothing.

And please think of a good place to get it. Unless you are a celebrity or superstar, leave the outrageous tats to them. Consider what your tat will look like in 20 years. Having said that, I would forgo anything on the neck. My motto is if it can be easily hidden, then it's a good spot!

I absolutely cannot stand needles. I have two tats and neither one of them hurt. One goes around my ankle...it was a little painful around the achilles tendon but was otherwise fine.

I had a tattoo done on my neck this summer. It is just under the hairline and is about 4 inches in length and and inch in width. This was the most painful of the three tattoos I have, but I love it and it was very much worth the pain!

Tattoo's are not disgusting it is Art and something personal that represents the person. So stop Stereotyping individuals just because they have Tattoo's.

Usually the pain factor has nothing to do with it being on a bone... there are a few factors (A) everyone is different. A spot that hurt really bad on one person isn't quite as bad as on another. (B) Groups of nerve endings which usually protect joints and vital organs usually are where the ouchy spots are. The top 5 most painful for me were: the front of the throat, directly over my kidneys, top of foot, near the armpit, and just under the breast on the ribs. But like I said, everyone is different! Still at their most painful, they weren't that bad for me!

What a miopic view you have Jussy. It's sad. I have tattoos, and it's not the people that display their body art that concern me.

I had my first when I was 30, it was on my lower tummy and the lady that did it said it was going to hurt like heck.. It didn't,,,then I designed one for my arm, a band around right above my muscle area.. It made me laugh when the gentleman did it.. I would love to get more but my husband of 7 years thinks they are horrible.. The only thing I am kinda disturbed with is that I designed my armband and the man was not to use it again according to our agreement, but he did anyway..So there are a few ladies with my design on their arm and that kinda pisses me off. So if you design your own and want to make sure its a one of a kind take all the artwork with you.....My advice..

Ok here is the deal with Tattoo's. I have four tattoo's and with all honesty none of them hurted me. I have one in my Arm, one at my inside Ankle, one on each side of my hips. All I felt was the pressure of steam against my skin, but no hurt. Maybe it is all in the mind and when you feel fear...fear is what you will feel no matter what it is.
Everyone is different and if you put your mind to it none of these places that are suppose to be painful will really be painful. Besides, how accurate is this article? Has the author of this article gotten a tattoo where they claim it hurts? Seriously everyone is different and everyone's pain tolerance is different.

I have 5 tats, and love them all. My first is above my ankle about 3 inches and it did not hurt at all. My 2nd is "my tramp stamp" on the lower back, and it was painful because I had just had a baby 9 months earlier and the artist kept hitting the epidural spot. My 3rd is between my shoulder blades and it was not too bad, just burned from the dry wiping. My 4th is on my calf and its huge , takes up most of the calf and it took 4 hrs just to do the line work and believe me I was crying crocodile tears by the time we were finished. It sucked!! but I have a gorgeous tat with lots of color. My 5th is all the way around my wrist and did not hurt AT ALL. I have more to come , as I am engaged to a tattoo artist and shop owner!!

I have a host ot tattoos and I experienced different sensations while getting each one. I have 2 tatts on my stomach and they were the most painful. The 2 on my arm did not hurt me at all. The one on my chest only hurt when Tuki(my artist) got to my sternum. I also have a back piece that covers my whole back. I had to endure four 5hr. sessions with that one and the only time I was in pain was when Tuki was tattooing on and around my shoulder (scapula region). In all though I do not regret going through any of the pain, or irritation for art work that I drew to decorate my temple for the remainder of my days here on earth.

I had a tat done in 1965 just before I went to Vietnam on my left shoulder. It was done by another Marine with 5 sewing needles wraped with a rubber band to hold them tight and stuck on a pencil eraser. The tat has USMC with my serial number under it. The first two or three pokes numbed the area I still have it wear it proudly and it still looks like it was done by a professional.

I have several tattoos, as well as a high tolerance for pain. I must say though that the most painful one I had done was on the nape of the neck, right over my spine. Although not intolerable, it was certainly more unpleasant than the ones on my ankles and arm.

It depends on what you get. I have a tattoo on the top of my foot that didn't hurt at all. It's all one color and took about an hour. If you get color done it's going to hurt anywhere you get it because they keep going over skin that's already been agitated.

I have two tattoos (so far)...the first was on my back shoulder area and was so easy and barely painful. Then I got my second on my inner ankle...I do have to say that it did hurt pretty badly...not so much that I'm done, that's for sure! I do know this...you remember that you were in quite a bit of pain but you don't remember the pain itself and you will soon forget. In other workds your first tattoo in most cases will not end up being an orphan ;-)

I got my first tattoo at 62, my lady dragoon on my lower back. I waited 20 years because as a working exec tattoos were frowned on. My dragoon was not painful nor uncomfortable she took more than 2 hours. My daughters thought I had lost my mind, my grandkids thought way cool. My tattooed eyebrows hurt, and if not for the pain relief administered at the same time noooo way. With my dragoon tattoo I was given a antiseptic creme to take of the itch as well

COMMENT; MY GIRLFRIEND JUST GOT A TATTOO ON HER WAIST LINE. SHE LOOKED LIKE SHE WAS IN ALOT OF PAIN. WELL WHILE I SAT THERE TO HELP HER KEEP HER MIND OFF THE THOUGHT OF THE PAIN, THAT DID NOT WORK AT ALL. FINALLY , THE TATTOO WAS COMPLETE AND I ASKED HER IF IT HURTED, AND SHE SAID YES.

I have a sleve and am getting my neck done tonight. The most painful place was the elbow. Four hours of needles on your elbow will make you not want to do the other one. I can leave a comment tomorrow about my neck.

I have a half sleeve and also a tattoo on my neck (side, under ear). The neck tattoo was actually enjoyable. The worst part of the sleeve was the inside elbow, but not even close to intolerable. I did not get the outside elbow done, but my husband just got that part done and said it was awful.
