Well, this definitely contradicts all my experiences. I love tattoos, have a few, and tell you- close to the bone was just a scratch( have them on my lower back, and back of the neck, and a knuckle). Once the needle reached my buttcheek( much fat there!) I inally felt something. Same with my finger- knuckle didn't feel like anything, the meaty part hurt. So think for yourself. Onething is true: lips, privates, and the underarm- hurt every time( I've got many tattooed friends).
    Enjoy your permanent art!

Hello people...this is how you spell the word TATTOO-2 t's and 2 o's.

Tattooing is freedom of personal expression, if you like them, get one. If you don't like them, don't get one, it's as simple as that! To go as far as to say women with tattoos are trashy ho's, well then you my friend are an ignoramous.

There are bad tattooers out there, just because you call yourself a "tattoo artist" does NOT necessarily mean you are a good one. Do your research people!!! To tell someone to watch "Miami Ink, L.A. Ink etc...to get an idea of the tattooing process is just down right insane, they are TV shows people...hello...that is NOT representative of tattoo shops across america. These shops belong to overpriced, arrogant shmucks who give tattoo artists the world over a bad name in my opinion. Try visiting your local shop that has been run by the same person for years. Again do your research, and I don't care what anyone says...THEY HURT!

Hahaha, if you're going to correct other people's spelling mistakes, make sure you know how to spell the words that YOU use first! It is spelled ignoramus. And they are not "tattooers," they are "tattooists." Work on that arrogance and vocabulary there bud!

      • Posted By: Tat2dAKchick @ 02/08/2008 2:15:47 PM

Forgive me, I must be an IGNORAMUS! And by the way...tattooer is a word and in the dictionary, tattooist is ALSO correct.

Hey! I made you pick up a book today. My work here is done. ;)

            You must be so proud!

Anytime I am successful at putting someone in their place while they tried (and miserably failed) to do the same to others is a proud moment in my book!

Klee1 - are you joking? You are not cool. At 59 you will not be cool, nor should you be trying to be cool. It is wonderful that you are a pastor, ex scout and have managed your money well enough to live well and enjoy your life. "Born to be bad" in a gated community is just silly. I do not oppose tats - I have a couple of my own and I am a 55 year old lady who teaches middle school. But consider, when you get a tat, under most circumstances you will be buried with it. Pick something with a little more meaning and that is a little less of a cliche. And think about it for a while.

Klee1 - are you joking? if you are not, this a comment from an old lady. I am a middle school teacher and have been for 23 years. You are not cool, notrshould you be trying to be cool. It is wonderful that you are a pastor and former scout and you have managed your moeny well enough to have a comfortable life style. Be yourslef and before you get a tat consider it for a while. Born to be bad in a gated community is just silly. Remeber when you get a tat you will be buried with it. It should be something you can be sure you will not regret.

After seeing the comments, I conclude that getting a tattoo is something like smoking pot. It is addictive, makes you a convert, makes you feel you are a superior human been, and pushes you to preach that doing this is the best thing that ever happened in your life, and feel sorry for the ones who don't have such an experience. I fortunately, am not willing to try either of these, pot or tattooing, I don't need these life engraving experiences. I know pot smokers and I don't like them, and for tattooing sounds to me you are missing something on yourself you don't know what, and try to get it through piercing or tattooing. It is like a primitive call to get control over something, people, pets, loved ones, even yourself, through a ritual of possession. As for "tattoo artists" they suck. Just look at them. They don't express something, they are simple technicians doing a job for money, they don't express their feelings or emotions, they just paint on skins whatever they are told to paint.

    • Posted By: RogueSketch @ 02/10/2008 2:19:46 PM

Ha ha ha Another ignorant voice heard from. "paint on skins whatever they are told to paint"? I design artwork for people, using the rules of perspective, color, light sources, and etc. I work very hard to make people happy, and it is very rewarding. I take the clients emotions and turn them into living works of art. Your generalzation fails.

    • Posted By: Imsuchabrat @ 02/08/2008 3:31:03 PM

First of all tattooing is a form of expression.

Whether it is for love or the lost of a love one each tat that we have has a meaning that all you negative people will never understand which is fine by me and I believe fine with everyone that has been tattooed.

For the people who have gotten tattooed and regret it, there is no one to blame but yourself for your stupidity of getting a tat or tats cause it with the in thing to do.

I am 42 yrs old and have 8 tats I am accountant, I have the finer things in life including my tats and if this makes me less then a person then you all who don't have tats so, be it! I am happy with who I am.

Regarding to if a tat hurts thru my experience there are tender spots every tat has one you all know the one that makes you say "OMFG" that HURT! there is always one spot in the outlining that does that to me I feel no pain during the colouring(shading).

    • Posted By: lionlover @ 02/08/2008 3:03:14 PM

i certainly hope yo are not raising children! with your one sidedness! i know for a fact that tattoes are not addictive(like pot) i have one and thats all im getting.i do not feel superior to others, i still feel like me, iam missing nothing in my life, i have a wonderful husband of 16 years and three beautiful children.we are a very close family and attend a assembly of god church 2 times a week. iam in control of my life and it is a wonderful life i have.i have several friends that are tattoe artist, i do take very offence by you saying they are not artist!!! yes they put on some what they want, but!!!!! they do their own work, come up with their own pieces of art and display them and you would be surprised how many people look at the work then pick out something they want!! they exspress more than it seems you can!!! you are just a hateful angry person who apparently has to insult others to make yourself feel better and superior!grow up and get a life! and by the way i will pray the lord helps you with your predujuce side becouse that is a sin you know!!

    • Posted By: nancanders85 @ 02/08/2008 2:52:37 PM

These "tattoo artists" that you speak of...don't just paint on skin....they have to have extensive training in what they do, i.e. proper techniques, sterilization processes, many things that we don't even think about!!! I personally worked with one in the spa of the doctor's office that I work in, she was the most amazing woman who knew a lot about it. She has been doing permanent make-up for almost 20 years now...and she is wonderful at it! And about half of them do express their feelings and emotions, they wear them all over their bodies and have their own sense of style when it comes to their appearance. So eventhough you know "pot" smokers, they are NOTHING like a "tattoo artist".....

    • Posted By: itsakat @ 02/08/2008 2:52:28 PM

A LOST -- perhaps you should try pot, may clear up that clouded, narrow vision you have. In any case, you're making some quantum leaps with nothing to land on on the other side. Nobody cares one way or another if you have a tattoo or not. It's your choice & sounds to me like you are the one with a superiority complex. Having a tattoo or lack thereof doesn't render anyone more superior than anyone else, nor does it make them addicted, converted (to what, I'm not sure on that left-field statement) & I don't recall anyone here saying it was the best thing that ever happened in their life (maybe I missed one???) just that it is a thing in their life & thankfully we ARE all different & not so robotic as you seem to think -- ironically seems to be the fashion in which you think. Just going by your self-absorbed, judgemential, uninformed statements.
Funny thing is, if you met me, you wouldn't know I had tats unless it were summer. And if that sways your opinion of me after initially finding that I am a genuine, educated, hard-working, friendly & kind person with integrity, to boot, then it is YOU with the complex. Not me.

You forgot the best tip of all if one is thinking of getting a tattoo; DON'T. Most people believe there is little risk but tattoo parlors are like any other medical facility; Full of germs, bacteria and virus. Unfortunalely the the control efforts are soetimes slack resulting in opportunities for serious infections. Tattoos are an unnecessary "surgery" so why take a risk?

    • Posted By: RogueSketch @ 02/10/2008 1:54:02 PM

Well elithian, I think most tattoo artists go above and beyond as far as disease prevention. I have seen more cross contamination issues at emergency rooms and dentist offices then would ever happen in my shop. We have to be vigilant to prove to everyone that walks in, that we are clean, safe, and respectful of our craft and our clients.

  • Posted By: Bru316 @ 02/08/2008 2:43:17 PM

if God had wante blue and green people he would have made them. I think it is awful to put your body through that. Then when you don't want them, it takes more pain to get rid of them.

    • Posted By: Panteragirl78 @ 02/10/2008 12:39:21 PM

Awful to put your body through that? I think 9 months of pregnancy and 72 hours of labor is an awful thing to put your body through, too. But we choose to that because we love the result.

    • Posted By: AuroraBlue1217 @ 02/08/2008 4:22:04 PM

If you think "it is awful to put your body through that", then don't . I didn't think it was awful to put my body through it. It is called a PERSONAL CHOICE! Also, you are throwing God into it, and using His name to judge others. As a tattooed Catholic, I respect your opinion, but not the way you present it. And to those others saying that tattoos mean something is missing, or they smoke pot, or whatever other prejudices are thrown around - I have 2 tattoos, a BA in psychology, teach in a Catholic school, and am working towards my Masters in Educational Technology. Tattoo ink does not travel to your brain and affect your mental state! There are so many more serious things going on in today's world, I can't believe this much time and trouble is spent on something that only affects the person getting the tattoo!

I am a woman with six tattoos. I have three larger tattoos on my back, one on the back right of my neck, one on my mons pubis and one on the top of my foot. I would say that the most painful of all my tattoos was one on my lower back aka a tramp stamp As the tattoo approached the kidney area it did cause tears. I wasn't screaming in agony, but I did feel a high amount of discomfort. I am a college professor and my tattoos do little more beyond expressing something about me than provide a conversation starter. As with anything, people generally make negative comments about something if 1. they are insecure and 2. it causes some kind of offense. I am proud of my tattoos and none of them should be construed as offensive. As for smartyhottie, I would ask my Honors English teacher for some extra tutoring. That's just me, though.

I have a tattoo behind my ear, along with my friend, amanda, and several tattoo artists i've talked to. I am a huge wuss, and i PROMISE it was not painful at all. Much less painful than even a beesting or a papercut. Every person i have talked to agrees. ask someone.

Finally, there is this candidate for the Nobel Prize in literature who calls my wife trailer trash because she has a tatoo. WTF's logic for people with tatoos not being trailer trash is to call my wife trailer trash based on nothing more than the fact she has a tatoo. Hmmmm. By the way, I don't consider people who live in trailer parks "trash". They are doing the best they can and at least they own something. On other thought...Doesn't anyone just keep pictures of their loved ones to honor them, whether they are living, deceased, disabled, etc? I carry a picture of my daughter in my wallet. Does that mean she means less to me because I don't have her name tatooed on my forehead? Why does being in the military mean having to get a tatoo to honor your corps or fellow soldiers who have fallen in the course of defending our country? As not having served, maybe I don't get that one but my dad served as have other freinds and family members and most, if not all of them, don't have tatoos.

Well the truth comes out juice. Seeing as though you like to bring up people's ages that leads me to believe you are a baby boomer or pretty close. I guess back then tattoo's were considered trashy, especially on women. A tweety, on your wifes ass juice. Maybe you are just lashing out for all injustice you suffered due to your trailer park wife. newflash juice.... Im 38, successfull and oh my god I have tattoos. Times have changed and as far as bashing the 18 year olds, they are old enough to die for this country so I think they can get some ink if so inclined. Besides, I got my first one at 18 when I was in the military and it is still my favorite. It has not held me back nor do I regret it in any way.

I also love this post. It proves my point, unfortunately, that Shawna has a lot to learn. To think that her use of language, especially if she chooses to unleash a stream of obscenities, will not affect her future employment is misguided. I am fairly certain a large majority of people in the business world would agree with me. This successful business person mocks me for having a discussion with her in the middle of the day but what is she doing...that's right, the same thing. Hmmmmm. Also, either your an adult business person who happens to be 18 or you are a girl. Which one is it?

    Posted By: shawnna89 @ 02/08/2008 16:30:58
Comment: I will become everything I want to become in life, no matter what an arrogant *** has to say about that. The way in which I choose to use the english language will not lead me to become unsuccessful in the work place. I know what they don't teach in school which is respect and openmindedness which you know nothing about, obviously. I am probably a much better worker than you could ever be because of the skills and traits I possess. You come off as an uneducated idiot when you speak, and the fact that you are arguing with an 18 year old girl in the middle of the day really makes it apparant you have no life.

I am back and ready for some more lively and "respectful" debate from the horde of filthy rich, successful, usually CEO's of major corporations and future presidential candidates that all sport tatoos. But first, someone explain to me the post below where Curin says someone 18 has more experience than someone ten years older. Exactly what do they have more expereince in? Judging Hannah Montana episodes? Texting their friends to see if Cody or Dakota still has a crush on them? What? After pondering that, go back and check my prior posts. I am not denigrating anyone. I am just offering some advice from someone who has been around awhile. For the person questoning how old I am, 43. The last year of the Baby Boomers, 1964. Can't wait to hear back from my fans!

    Comment: Juiceman:
I have met sixteen year olds with more sence than adults in their thirties. Just because you are eighteen that does not mean you are any less experienced than someone ten years older than you. I agree that in some cases the tattoo placement can make it more difficult to get a good paying job, but that does not limit you to the entertainment industry. You feel you can tear someone down for being eighteen and having a tattoo, like shawna; but didn't she say she is making sixteen dollars an hour, going to be going back to school and taking care of herself? Sounds like she is mature and has her priorities in order; there are plenty of people far older than her who are not doing that well, and some of them do not have tattoos.

The bottom of the foot is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo. Because the skin is thicker, the needles must penetrate deeper. Too, because the skin does not heal the same way, the ink must be re-applied a few times in order for the design to be finished. I have 9 tattoos, 4 of which cover the lower half of my back. The tattoo on the bottom of my foot was by far the most excrutiating.

  • Posted By: SgtPetesWife @ 02/09/2008 7:07:11 AM

I have quite a few tatoos and I am college educated, to this day I have never had an issue finding great jobs and a few of my tats can not be hidden. The world is changing, tatoos are not looked down on the way they were before. I am sure that I will get several more as the years go by and mu husband thinks my tatoos are very sexy. By the way I am a 29 year old business manager.
