I respect John McCain as a fellow Viet Nam Vet. But he should remember all our fallen comrads as i remember we were dying for ''Demacracy'' in Nam also. How many more of our young children must die for a country, and people that dont want ''US'' there.

We are all Americans. Most of us would die for our freedoms. Standing together, finding common ground and acting as patriotic, democratic, intelligent people is our only hope for continued improvement. Our differences, excluding illegal acts, can become a great strength. The majority of Americans are excellent individuals. We must, however, work diligently, be patient with each other and stop this "name-calling!" What do we gain by trying to reduce anyone's unlimited value? Thank You

What it boils down to is very simple. Victory in the war on terror or a white flag waved to terrorists.

Republicans ans all who truly love and believe in the standards of the United States need to pull together and get it right in November.

Say anthing you want. It comes down to this.

    AMERICAN HERO vs ISLAMIC SYMPATHIZER

    NOBAMA!!!

Whats the big deal? I'm a lifelong Republican, but as most conservatives, I'm educated and consider myself intelligent enough to understand that: "Thats the nature of our Nations politics"! Its going to happen this election, and will happen in every election from this point to the return of Jesus!

The DNC makes a mistake by making dubious criticism of Senator McCain whild ignoring the Keating 5 scancal. He was definitely involved in that.

The DNC makes a mistake by making dubious claims against McCain while they ignore a real unmentioned problem of the Keating 5 scandal; something he was undeniably involved in.

Sounds like a "new direction" to me.....now we have an entire party, not just the extreme right, ready to use the swiftboat tactics. Hopefully Obama won't stoop this low. Unfortunately, it looks like we can count on the Democratic leadership to do so. If they do, I will switch my vote to McCain. At least he has condemned these tactics in the past.

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 02/09/2008 5:40:24 PM

But will Obama say anything about the DNC's tatics? If he does then I might vote for him. What if he just lets it go? Will all the Obama lovers continue to tout his freshness and rising above the negative politics...

Misleading claims? Kind of like McCain's misleading claims against Romney and his 'timetables'? It's apparent that the rule is if it works go with it, no matter the facts. All's fair in love, war and politics. Personally, I'd love to see McCain get a taste of his own medicine.

    • Posted By: clikdawg @ 02/09/2008 12:25:46 AM

Does "all's fair in love, war, and politics" extend to assassination of political or romantic rivals? If not, why not? And if we can insist on one rule, why not another?

I don't mean to be facetious, dsmb007, not even a little bit. And I love a good ol' dust-up every nine times outta ten. But as entertaining as I normally find the poisoning of the public discourse, we live in an era when extending politics-as-usual to its logical (and therefore insane) extreme is doing irreparable harm to the nnation's fabric.

Consider this: When civil war next comes to this country it won't be The Blue and The Gray -- it'll be civil war on the Iraqi model; or on the Kansas-Missouri border model, if you like.

Night-riding score-settlers with a private axe to grind.

Best we clean up our act, compadre ...ati

      • Posted By: dsmb2007 @ 02/09/2008 3:02:07 PM

Um, no I don't think assassinations of any kind are appropriate. I just wanted to be clear about that. I do agree that politics-as-usual is causing irreparable harm to the nations fabric. However, because we as citizens keep rewarding those who extend the politics-as-usual mindset, we are causing it to escalate. We now have no choice but extend politics-as-usual, as all three of the candidates are deeply entrenched in it. And as long as it is working, politics-as-usual will continue, as much as I wish it wouldn't.

        • Posted By: clikdawg @ 02/09/2008 4:06:57 PM

If we keep on extending politics as usual we WILL end up with assassination and civil war. It's a case of the inevitiblity of an inertial arc: The pendulum will continue to swing in the direction it is going until it is stopped, simply because, as you put it, "we have no choice".

Voting for the lesser of the three evils now before us will not so much as slow that arc -- you will still be rewarding sociopathic behavior.

Conclusion: Don't vote for anyone you feel has crossed that intangible line between political right and wrong. And I mean ANYONE ...

McCain will be 73 by Inauguration time. So the V P will run things. Sorry not again. No amount of lipstick will work.

Sen McCain has NEVER been a "puppet of the right wing" or any other wing, for that matter. He marches to the beat of his own drummer and has consistently fought against special interests and for campaign finance reform, I think he truly wants to make the US a better place for everyone, not just the rich. He is a war hero and is much tougher than any of those criticisizing him. He votes his conscience and doesn't care what the "party line" is. So what if he's 72 yrs old? Most societies value the wisdom and experience that age brings. It is our "youth-oriented" media that has obviously picked their "darling" - Obama, even though he has little to no experience with gov't. He is a good speaker, but that's about it. I think (hope) that the American people are smart enough to pick the most qualified candidate when it comes right down to it.

John McCain has NEVER been a "puppet of the right wing" and is a proven war hero and marches to his own beat. So what if he's 72 yrs old? Most societies value the wisdom that comes with age. Just because the media is youth-oriented and has already picked its "darling" (Obama) of the race doesn't mean people are going to vote that way when it comes right down to it.

Is Factcheck.org becomming fair and balanced like Fox News ? McCain Im sure is a decent man , but he wants to "win" The iraq War. Were not even sure what winning is anymore but we do know YES it make take 100 years. The U.S, economy is in deep deep trouble. The U.S. Dollar is woth less than The Euro or even a canadian dollar, John Mccain has been quoted "economics are not his strong point" Throw in the fact that he would be 72 years old at the START of his presidency and I would say we should all just kill ourselves now.

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 02/09/2008 1:41:01 AM

McCain is a puppet of the right wing. Whatever "centrist' views he purports now, he will alter to pander to the party's conservative base. That means endless war in the Middle East - not only in Iraq, but also in Iran, Syria, and even Venezuela , spiraling debt, a system in which the wealthy few get richer while more and more Americans are pushed beneath the poverty lines, and a society where medeical care and a college education are luxury items only for the rich. While McCain tries to tap dance to please the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter, the world gets warmer and more people sicken because of pollution. Incidentally, if any one depends on social security or medicare for his or her survival - kiss it good-by. The elimination of social security and medicare to pay off the national debt is probably one of the first deals McCain will make with Republicans. Rather than launching a smear campaign, Howard Dean's letter is quite prophetic. Elect McCain and we'll have 4 more years of the same old same old

Frankly, this sort of behavior is EXACTLY is why the Democratic party desperately needs Barack Obama as the presidential candidate instead of Hillary Clinton. In the old viciously partisan world which politicians like the Clintons revel in, this kind of nonsense is what they call "fun". Our nation doesn't need this kind of foolish anymore, it has deadlocked Washington, made our nation impotent and we need to move away from these simplistic, misleading narratives. As Obama says, be FOR something, not just against, not running based on how well you can slime your opponent. And that's been the most glaring tactical difference between Obama and Clinton. John McCain is a respectable man, well qualified to be president. There are differences in views on the issues and what America deserves from BOTH parties is intelligent, intellectual honest discussion about these differences, giving the American people a clear understanding of what's at stake in order to make an informed decisiona about which way they want to go. and that's why as an independent, I'm going to vote for Barack Obama for President.

Didn't the nation, at least close to 50% fall for these tired lines of occupatiuon without harm to our troops, tax cuts for the mini-millionaires will boost the economy. It's time for the truth, not the Abraham gloss over, but the truth and the Republicans do not have the fibre to lead that parade. This moranic plunge to the abiwss has to stop, our young people cannot continue to die in Irak for the bushee war nor be saddled with billion after billion in debt. Don't take what is said but what history has shown to be the republic as george would say, way.

actually joe p, John McCain did defend John Kerry against the Swiftboat attacks. Why don't you do some research there, buddy.

Actually Joep, when the Swiftboat veterans came out and smeared John Kerry he defended his friend and fellow Senator. Do some research.

  • Posted By: joe p @ 02/08/2008 7:37:13 PM

I recall McCain pressuring Kerry not to attack Bush's military (non-)record. Yet when the Swift Boat Veterans came out with their smear he did nothing.
A hundred years in Iraq if no Americans were being harmed or wounded or killed. A fantasy-- Americans are being wounded and harmed and killed, and this will not stop with a change of rhetoric. After all, we'd still be in Vietnam if Americans weren't being wounded or harmed or killed. And McCain's statement ignores the people we supposedly (in one of the many changes of "mission" to justify the war) are there to help--the Iraqis. If they are killed or wounded it would be all right for us to be there a hundred years?
