Delegates Count, but How do you Count Them?

Byzantine party rules, unbound delegates make estimating a headache.

I see a overwhelming need for the knowledgable super delegates. It's hard to believe the number of comment writers who say Hillary was the only one on the Fl. ballot. Are these the people that should pick the nexr Dem Nom..All 6 were on the ballot I voted. In fact Obama ran an ad here prior to the primary.

On the one hand the Obama campaign is saying that we should not change the rules in the middle of the game and allow the Florida and Michigan delegates to be seated but yet they DO want to change the rules in the middle of the game and state that super delegates should not be allowed to vote how they want (which has been the rule for 20 years) but rather they should vote based on some other factor. Is the Obama campaign saying that the Florida and Michigan delegates should not be seated since those are the rules but the rules should be broken when it comes to super delegates?

Attention Democrats Kerry chose your candidate before you had a chance. Obama received an unfair advantage from super-delegate John Kerry when he received Kerry's 3 million plus email list. What made matters worse Kerry shared this private information without permission. When I entered my contact information into the johnKerry.com web site the privacy policy stated: "When you register on JohnKerry.com, we will use the information you provide to send you news and information about John Kerry and his campaign. We will not sell this information to any third party, under any circumstances. We work closely with Democratic candidates, parties and allied organizations. If - and only if - you give your consent, we may share some basic contact information with them, and they may contact you."

What would the Obama campaign have done if this unfair advantage were given to either Clinton or Edwards? Now, it is time for the Democratic Party to be fair and allow the delegates from Michigan and Florida to be counted

Are you serious? No. No. You can't be. You're making a joke. I know you wouldn't think that Obama has an "unfair" advantage because of support from Kerry. That would be soooo silly; not to mention hipocritical.

Hmmmm. Let's see....If I were running for president, which would I rather have? The support of a Senator who failed in the last presidential race, or the support of an ex two-term president with an 80% approval rating? Mmm. . .tough choice.

I guess some may say it's not fair, but I'm gonna go with the loser senator. I know. I know. You're thinking I don't have any scruples allowing someone else's political efforts to benefit my campaign. It's certainly a first in Washington, but as they say "all's fair in politics".

Thank a whole whole bunch Katie90. Now I know that Obama's success is due to Kerry's mailing list. That's very informative. I must say though, I am very surprised at how powerful one little mailing list can be. I mean, whoever thought that a mailing list from a failed candidate could trump the entire resources of the Whitehouse?

Or maybe you think Hillary has soooo much integrity that when Billy boy offers the use of his contact list from his political empire, she declines, saying "No thank you Bill. That just wouldn't be right."

      You're very funny Katie.

So you ignore my point, act like a moron, and bash the Clintons. Perhaps you should have found another place to post your childish off-topic comment. Kerry is a superdelegate and he violated the privacy of 3 million plus people. It was wrong no matter who received the information. You're not funny at all Salty and your lame attempt at sarcasm was riddled with spelling errors. Next time run the spell checker.

Its clear to us. You want people to think Obama is losing so that people will vote for Clinton.

Republicans vehemently dislike Bill and Hillary Clinton because the Clinton???s took some of the basic principles of the so-called Reagan revolution and made them the centerpieces of Clintonism. Reagan and the Clinton???s villainized our country???s most down trodden, labeling them welfare queens and welfare cheats. The Clinton???s, with the assistance of Newt Gingrich enacted into law welfare legislation, which even Reagan could not. Marian Wright and Peter Edelman abandoned the Clinton???s in protest. Reagan and the Clinton???s argued that death was proper for the individuals in our prisons, disproportionately African-American and Latino. They should be killed even though they might be mentally challenged and children. Reagan had and the Clinton???s have an affinity to special interests and their big money. Senators Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman are the biggest recipients of the money from munitions makers and pharmaceutical companies. No wonder they were proponents of Bush???s pre-emptive, unjustified, bogus war and Senator Clinton champions a bogus claim for universal health coverage, which is nothing but a give away for big pharmaceutical companies. Reagan and the Clinton???s are proponents of the so-called global economy and the Clinton???s passed legislation which Reagan could only have dreamed of, which have sucked jobs out of the United States, as was forecast by Ross Perot. The Clinton???s have been even more successful then Reagan in shifting the vast majority of wealth in the united States into the hands of a few, the Anglo Aristocracy of which the Clinton???s are now card carrying members. Senator John McCain may have been a foot soldier in the Reagan revolution; the Clinton???s are Reagan???s primary disciples and beneficiaries. Only the election of Senator Barack Obama to President of the United States can put a stop to this nonsense. These super delegates should not be allowed to take the nomination away from Senator Obama.

Either way Hillary will lose in November. Even if Obama wins the most delegates, and then Slick Willie tries to overturn the vote with his own superdelegates, all hell will break loose, and Hillary will lose the November election, anyway. Obama really is the only one who has a serious chance to win the general election.

    REPUBLICAN DISINFORMATION ALERT ...

On MSNBC tonight, a exit poll in Louisana showed that 50 percent of Obama supporters said that they would be dissatisfied with Hillary Clinton as the nominee, while roughly two thirds of the Clinton voters said they would be dissatisfied with Obama as the party standardbearer.

There was no racial breakdown of who in each camp would be dissatisfied.

However, GOP strategist Pat Buchanan said that the Democrats should fear Obama getting the nod because the two thirds of the Clinton supporters who were potentially dissatisfied with an Obama nomination were probably Caucasians, or white.

In other words, this former Richard Nixon operative is raising the spectre of "white flight" from the Democratic Party if Obama is the nominee.

However, his argument is mathematical horse pucky, as the total number of people voting in the Louisiana Democratic primary who say they would be dissatisfied if their candidate's opponent won the nomination is roughly the same.

Remember, Barack Obama won 56 percent to 37 percent, in Louisiana. That means that approximately 28 percent of his voters would be dissatisfied if Hillary is the nominee.

Of Hillary's 37 percent of the total Democratic vote, two thirds of that would be roughly 24 percent of the total votes cast in the primary.

In other words, it is statistically a wash.

Given the Clintons' penchant for race coding, they are likely to parrot the Buchanan argument, as least privately.

    Don't be fooled.

I hope that in the next debate someone will ask Hillary the following question:

"Ma'am, your husband's presidency was marked by scandals running from the salacious to national security, you've run a campaign based on race coding, and both you and your husband have scant regard for the truth.

"Personal responsibility is the key to government accountability.

"What could you--or your husband--say to young people, what could you possibly bring to the table, for those who need to hear a message of honesty and integrity?"

This part of the story is incorrect:
    ...............
California Democrats award 129 delegates in proportion to statewide vote.

Clinton won the state with 52 percent of the votes cast.

This part seems easy: 129 multiplied by .52 equals 67, so Clinton gets 67 of the statewide delegates.
    ......................
In order for a candidate to receive delegates in California, and in most States, that candidate must get at least 15% of the votes either in a given district or statewide. In California, no third candidate did that. So that means that Clinton gets 52/94ths of the 129 Statewide delegates (74), not 67, as stated in the article, and Obama gets 42/94ths of the statewide delegates (55).

Prediction: We'll wait for Supreme Court to decide Michigan and Florida delegates.
