hoopes have you even checked out scientology. From operation snow white to operaton freakout? This group has commeted MAJOR crimes against people and goverments. Why not visit xenu.net and xenutv.com to see for yourself? How can you write about understanding their position when you don't even know it? Google " dispose of quietly and without sorrow" Google scientology and the tone scale. Learn and then maybe you can make a valid point. What you keep forgetting its that its not the faith criitcs are fighting, its the very bad actions. Big difference,.

Using good judgement and making judgements about another are two completely different things. Example: If I were to judge Scientology, I might say they have based their religion on a science fiction writiers fantasies...or I might say they are completely enlightened. Using good judgement, I might look at the situation and say, "is it best to demean and rip on those who belive scientology? Or, would I be better served by really trying to understand their position and than make a reasoned, rational appeal for their attention".

As for Jerald, I disagree. Scientology is a very small group...they only affect me to the extent I decide to sit her and blog about it with others. As soon as I leave this discussion, it will leave my mind and not affect me or any around me. It's a choice...their beliefs to not affect me. If someday they rise to power (which they won't) and try to take away my ability to worship as a chose (which they won't), then I will engage in the effort to assert my rights.

Folks here are not trying to assert their rights. They are attacking the beliefs of others. You're rights have not been infringed upon. And of course, the first amendment protects you...never implied that it didn't.

So gibber, just because there are other causes you don't think the danger of scientology should be exposed? We each find our own place in the world and our own causes that we feel we can make a difference in. For a lot of us thats fighting the abuses of scientology. These college kids are not stupid and can see the truth when they check it out themselves. Funny how you can't give them credit for free thinking and knowledge. I think this is a real cause. But as a member of scientology I can see and respect where you would feel different. Like the psychiatry crack you posted.

It's not about "knowledge" phr33dom. It's about threats, clear statements of intent to destroy a religion, and duping college kids into thinking this is a valid cause. It's not. There ARE real causes.
There's global warming, AIDS, child soldiers and sexual tourism. And psychiatry. There is so much that really needs to be reformed,. This so-called "consortium" is a front for something pretty sinister.

gibber -- Since when is bringing knowledge to the public considered terrorism? And this whole entire scientology thing does affect you. They are trying to eradicate psychiatry and prescription medications PROVEN to work.
PatrickJ - You are either a scientologist yourself, or are severly ignorant. Your talk of smear tactics provokes hypocrisy in your previous posts. And your justification of looking at what is really happening and bashing the group's anonymous tactics SCREAMS ignorance. Why is Anonymous so Anonymous? Because the Church of Scientology completely KILLS reputations of known critics and harrasses the hell out of them. We are not hate mongers, we are knowledge seekers.

Name one other religion that has had its leaders put in prison for breaking into goverment offcies to steal files and plant bugs? JeraldR I wish Scientology DID "affect each and every one of us." This world would be a much better place if everyone in it acted on a personal code of ethics, took responsibility for their own actions, their family and their community, and understood more about life.

Would Newsweek cover the KKK's harassment of African-American groups the same way as they do the group Anonymous' threats against the Church of Scientology? Or of a Neo-Nazi group's hate talk against members of the Jewish faith?

Smear campaigns are nothing new. Nor is it new for a group of "anonymous" individuals to hide in the darkness and cast stones at others they don't like. Their tactics smack of vigilantism.

In our current culture it's become a sport to speak ill of others. And with the blogs and websites it's easy for anybody to publish information - whether it is true or not.

It is more important than ever to look at what is really happening, not just listen to hate mongers.

Awww hoopes_az, Thats the rub here. scientology does affect each and everyone of us. Google scientology and front groups. This group is trying very hard to get into our goverment, our schools and our health. But are doing so under the radar so the scientology connection is not seen. The fact they are doing it this way should tell you and the other readers a lot.
As for your silly name calling. Remember we have the very same right to voice how we feel as scientology does. Disagreeing with scientology doesn't make one a bigot or bad or stupid. It makes us worried about our homes and our families future. Funny how you just skip over any info you could have learned here and choose to attack posters instead. And you call us names?

Scientology is a fraud and a cult - just like every other proselytizing religion.
