I once lived in a house owned by a Scientologist - they own it now. I used to get his Scientology mail. This is not a religion. It is a swindle, a scam, a fraud that seeks to suck all resources out of their victims. No real church charges money to see their "secrets".
They promise one can "have cause over time and space", and travel the Universe at will (after a few hundred thousand dollars of "auditing"), but not one of them has succeeded in materializing for me, or showing me anything that has improved their lives, except for the far-away gaze and the internal (and silly) lingo.
L. Ron, who said to friends that the real way to get rich was to start a religion, was dead for years before they had to eventually produce the body due to a suit by his son. All the time, he was allegedly hiding out, writing new sagas of supreme intelligence about Xenu, and his hydrogen bombs millions of years ago. What do you know, . . he apparently suddenly died after the court order, the death certificate was signed by a Scientology doctor with a lucrative part of the organization, and the body immediately cremated. What a coincidence!
Where is the Department of Justice? Why aren't they using the RICO statutes to go after this menace? Have they been infiltrated, too, like the IRS?
