I am an ex-scientologist, I spent in the cult more than 50,000.00 US$ in more than 10 years of membership. But is not the money what I regret most, it is the family I lost. My parents, still members, don't talk to me nor to my children since the day I left, five years ago.
They call this 'disconnection' policy.
The cult asks its members to serve all connections to people who leave the cult, or who are even mild critics to its management. It is a form of punishment for those who leave, and the penalty for members who do not adhere to that policy is expulsion and 'disconnection' enforced on them too.
There are thousands of factual stories like mine or even worse, many take the courage to expose them, like on the Ex Scientologist Message Board (http://forum.exscn.net).
Everyone should be allowed to speak freely and belief what he likes. But if you are a scientologist, sadly, you can't ??? you will be subject to 'disconnection' and even harassed if you do.
Thanks to the 'Anonymous' for waking up the Media attention on the oppressions by that cult, and to Jenna Miscavige Hill for taking the courage to go public about her story, similar to too many others.
