Comment: Rick Hendrick is a "God" of Nascar. He helps all races, people and his employees would do anything for him. When an employee has that high of an opionion of their boss, you KNOW that person is a good human being. Many people thought that Dale Jr sold out, but they dont know that when Dale Jrs grandfather was working for Hendrick and became terminally ill, it was Hendrick who paid his full salary up till his death! It was Hendrick that paid all his grandfathers medical bills. That is what makes a person a good human being and good american, not the fact that a few employees were caught doing illegal things at his place of business and he took accountability for it. If more americans took accountability for their actions, there would be less people in jail or suing people with no merit! Also, by telling the public of his illness, he brought more publicity and attention to the fight for the cure than anybody!

Comment: Another GENIUS speak up.....................................please explain how there would be "less" people in jail if more Americans took accountability for their actions? Perhaps my thinking is in direct disproportion to yours, but I would say that MORE people being held accountable for crimes they committeed would result in MORE people in prisons. I do agree with your disdain for lawsuits with no merit, however it is the SAME lawyers who are keeping people OUT of prison -- by having their clients NOT assume accountability for their actions. In the future, follow old Chinese proverb "Before putting mouth in motion, make sure brain in gear". Oh...........one more thing : the noun "American" refers to a citizen of my country. In the future, please show our nation its due respect and capitalize it !!

Comment: We know only what the media tells us. Not to really know someone and say they are guilty of a serious crime and should be in prison and are not because of a hoax illness or because of their wealth, is a media play as far as I am concerned. I am a NASCAR fan and a true blue american, so if a U.S. President pardons a citizen of this county I turst the Presidents judgement, especially Past President Bill Clinton.

    • Posted By: CHYNADAD @ 02/12/2008 15:27:22

Comment: Well done...........spoken like a TRUE LIBERAL !! Since when is "really knowing" someone a condition for guilt in a
Federal crime conviction? If that were the case, I guess John Wilkes Booth did not actually assinate President Abraham Lincoln -- because I did not really know him. What a concept you have invented..............criminals are only guilty if you really know them. Keep that course of logic, and help to elect the next President in 2008, also. If you put your trust in a guy who waffles an aide in the oval office, you are just the citizen we need to chart the future of this country. Do you really believe what you wrote earlier? SAD...............................

Comment: Everyone considers this man "a GOD" ; the darling car owner of NASCAR. The fact is ........he is a convicted felon ; guilty of price-fixing at his many automobile dealerships. Were it not for a pardon by outgoing President Bill Clinton, Rick Hendrick would have served time in prison for his illegal business dealings. I also find it strange that, during the legal proceedings that lead up to his conviction, the media was filling us with "sob stories" about his terrible illness......life-threatening, in fact. His drivers carried bone marrow donation decals on their race cars. It was played "to the hilt".......all to detract attention from the seriousness of his crimes. Suddenly -- after his pardon by the President, Rick Hendrick experiences a "miraculous" recovery. Today -- he certainly looks as though he is quite healthy, and eating well -- I might add ! It sure is amazing what a Presidential pardon can do for the soul. I think it is disgusting............another example of wealth above justice in America.

    • Posted By: yungan @ 02/12/2008 17:46:47

Comment: Amen! I think a direct connection in monies donated and the pardon. There was way to much smoke surrounding Hendrick for there not to be any fire

Your disparaging comments are likely the result of a lack of praise or acknowledgement for any of your own achievements (if any). It???s easier for you to knock everyone else down as opposed to pulling yourself up. You are so transparent???

Comment: What is so transparent about my comments? Years of butt-fu.cking and masturbation have rendered you unable to critically reflect upon my candor-filled statements about the mobile trashcans that are running on oval tracks, and the dim-witted monkeys who are getting behind their wheels.....

Comment: Your personality is what is transparent. Not loved as a child, bullied in school and unrecognized within your own profession. Your comments are simply the result of these challenges you have faced that you are unable to overcome. You likely have no social life, and your comments are a cry for someone to hold a conversation with you. You teeter on the side of absurdity to be certain that you draw a crowd. It's a lonely life you lead. I can't even begin to imagine the emptiness that you must feel on a daily basis. If you are currently employed, perhaps you should inquire as to whether or not your place of employment offers EAP (employee assistance program). Remember, the first step is admitting that you have a problem. Best of luck to you!

Comment: superprick, your lack of an answer to my questions about your F1 career and the 50 year old drivers name along with your reference to an inferiority complex and an obvious familiarity of what you termed "colon vagina" just solidifies the evidence that every one on this board recognises...you are clearly a colon vagina loving homosexual who uses personal insults to hide your inability to answer questions of your knowledge. Sounds like the inferiority complex of someone in France.

    • Posted By: Superacademico @ 02/11/2008 22:28:39

Comment: Does your perpetual butt-fu.cking also prevent you from correctly identifying the divine responses of your NEW GOD? I had below named one driver I KNOW OF---without paying much attention to that internationally irrelevant REDNECK sport that is NASCAR----and you have failed to READ this science doctor''s divine response....Mark Martin was over 50 years old when still "racing"

    • Posted By: Goblahyourself @ 02/11/2008 22:15:40

Comment: Sorry superprick but your obsession with having sex with other men is not the end of the world. Hopefully one day you can graduate from goats to humans and I would like to stay on here and encourage you to do that but your sister is on her knees under my desk here and says she is tired of hitting the back of her head on my keyboard. Besides, I am willing to bet that your mother is going to yell into your bedroom any minute now for you to get to bed because tomorrow is a school day. By the way, why did'nt you answer my questions?

Why don't you hook up with your homosexual lover? I am sure that he will be fond of digging that colon vagina of yours, before and after the next NASCAR race....

I thought it was great to show you pieces of subhuman American garbage just how incredibly DUMB and DYSFUNCTIONAL you are....Why don't you go to the next hardware store, get a rope an hang yourself?

Comment: I trust that the dose of reality you rednecks got dished out by your superior academic master and new GOD, will help you to put your inferior REDNECK sport in perspective....And when you go to that REDNECK-ghetto bed tonight, you ought to relieve yourselves of your perpetual frustration by masturbating below the images of your REDNECK heroes...When Dale, Sr. got a dose of his own medicine by being killed in the mobile NASCAR trashcan he was driving, I was cheering when I heard the news of his death....After all, a good redneck is a DEAD redneck!!!!!

Comment: I beleive that Daniel McGinn got this article to write because either the person who writes them was out sick at the time, or he is a relative of someone from NewsWeek and was handed this job to write for NASCAR.
We all know that Daniel McGinn didn't get this job because he knows anything about NASCAR racing.
I think that Daniel McGinn should be fined, fired or at the very least.. REPLACED! But please.. not before he is forced to give a public apoligy to JR and to Mr Henricks.

Comment: Newsweek: do you even know who Dale Jr. is? The guy you are describing is definately not the Dale Jr. that represents all the Nascar fans. He may be an Earnhardt, but he has earned his prestigious status by his driving and respectfulness to the sport.

  • Posted By: Goblahyourself @ 02/11/2008 9:17:20 PM

Comment: Superprickademico...with your superior intelligence and proficient mastery of grammar, why are you spending time arguing with people about racing on this mindless subject known as racing? Also, what F1 team do you drive for, own or otherwise represent?

    • Posted By: Superacademico @ 02/11/2008 21:31:47

Comment: You need to focus your brainless American NAZI head and police-state mentality upon NASCAR, the "racing" show for the most feeble-minded individuals on Planet Earth. F1 is devoid of U.S. racers, because they can't run with the Big Boys of F1. The last one to be kicked out was Scott "The ***" Speed, who lost the team-internal duel against his Toro Rosso teammate....And 4-times ChampCar Championship winner (Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais)---who won 4 (internationally) meaningless championships in open-wheels racing----will find out this year that his U.S. trophies mean NOTHING in F1, when he will get eclispsed by 20 year-old Sebastian Vettel.....Keep it real little moron!

  • Posted By: Goblahyourself @ 02/11/2008 9:10:56 PM

    • Posted By: Superacademico @ 02/11/2008 21:56:16

Comment: Mark Martin was racing when he passed the 50 yr mark, and that piece of garbage may still be racing...And several rednecks look as though they are way over 50 years old., Although some do merely look like washed-up and worn-out hillbillies, and their chronological age may in fact be less than 50, but their functional age is definitely above that....too much beer and butt-fuc.king do definitely show physical wear

      • Posted By: jeff_hotchkiss @ 02/11/2008 21:22:45

Comment: Well, just as you can't critique a book by not reading it, YOU can't submit a legitimate critique of NASCAR when it is explicitly clear that you have not taken the time to learn about that which you are critiquing.

And I am not even concerned about the contributor's lack of a decent orthography...But your writings are revealing a lack of structure that allows me to immediately make inferences as to your socio-intellectual and socio-economic background.....go back to elementary school, boys and girls, or back to your ghettos....whatever you deem to have priority....best regards from the GOD of your inferior god....

You dumb sons of bitches cannot make sense of your laborer lives, without resorting to mind-boggling myth and superstition (i.e, the Christian and/or other fairy tales). You supposedly hard-working redneck laborer boys/girls are not even entitled to work as slaves for "yours truly" and other distinguished members of the IVY-LEAGUE or IVY-LEAGUE-TYPE SCIENCE INSTITUTIONS the world over.......That means, we do not even permit for you subhuman imbeciles to surrender your slave labor to us....

Comment: This guy is just peeved because these drivers have better personalities than he could ever hope to have, they make more than him, and he can't find something productive to do with himself other than put people down or brag that his daddy had enough money to send him to an Ivy league school.

Comment: why are all the f1 boys going to nascar to be real men

    • Posted By: Superacademico @ 02/11/2008 20:57:02

Comment: You ought to at least try to formulate your meaningless oneliners without incorporating any spelling errors....The F1 drivers who enter NASCAR do so out of frustration over not having achieved anything of significance in that sport (F1). A good case in point should be the hyped up F1 career of one Juan Pablo Montoya...After being hailed as the next designated Michael-Schumacher beater, that dull-witted and inferiority-complex-infested INDIO BOY from the ghettos of Bogota had not achieved any F1 championship win, and picked up the reputation of being a racetrack RAMBO....a chracteristic that made him ideally suited for NASCAR.....And, after beaten for two years in a row---by his superior teammate, Kimi Raikkonen---Montoya found himself without a competitive ride, so that he decided to slug it out with these dumb rednecks.....F1 drivers get into NASCAR when they are already washed up and worn out, because in that hillbilly series, you can still "race" competitively when you are a +50 year old granddaddy......Keep it real boya

The subtitle on this article is "Rick Hendrick is the force behind racing's biggest stars. But can he handle Dale Earnhardt Jr.?" Then the article basically goes on with a brief bio of Rick Hendrick. It only mentions Junior twice. I'd like to know exactly what ego Junior has. He's been nothing but accomodating toward his new team owner. So I know you're supposed to draw in the reader with an eye-catching headline, but next time try to write the article your headline implies. Just another generic article written by someone who doesn't know the subject they're writing about.

Comment: I agree 100% with all of ya'll. Wasn't it Jeff Gordon who pushed Matt Kenesth a couple of seasons ago? Doesn't Jimmie Johnson moan & groan about everything that does not go the "Jimmie" way? Kyle Busch is a child who when he doesn't get his way runs over everybody in sight. I've heard that Kyle Busch has his own seat in the NASCAR trouble make hauler. Okay, yes you have to admit that Jr has let a couple of words slip every know and then, but anyone who has direct tv and gets the NASCAR track pass knows that even the "Dad" of the track, Kyle Petty, lets one slip every once and a while. Get off of Jr's back and let him get down to business!

Comment: Who cares about any of these dull-witted, bible-thumping, pickup-truck-driving, and roadkill-eating hillbillies. NASCAR is a primitive, albeit popular circus act, which has nothing to do with professional motor racing European style (F1, GP2, etc). Any freaking granddaddy/hillbilly can flick the steering wheel four times a lap, while essentially holding that right foot in, at least on the long ovals. These dumb American hillbillies are machine operators, rather than racecar drivers. None of the pieces of subhuman garbage could make it in Formula One, because they can't take 4.5 g in fast corners or 5g under braking, for the duration of a 90 min road course event., because none of these god-fearing laborer boys is a well-trained athlete. The worldwide popularity of this NASCAR bullcrap does not even amount to a fraction of F1's worldwide popularity....Keep it real boys!

I bet this writer was paid off by Teresa Earnhardt. Sorry Dale but that is what I think. If you ever have watched Dale race and deal with interviews, Daniel, then you will see what type of person he is. He doesn't race to cause trouble, he races to have fun and win. Daniel, I would appreciate it if you get your facts strait before you print your artical. GO DALE JR!!!! YOUR DADDY IS PROUD OF YOU!!!!!

Comment: I totally agree that Junior is a respectable driver, but I take issue with something else you said in your comment, Mrsdalejr08. How on earth could you call Jimmie Johnson a "whiny baby?!" That guy is one of the most mild-mannered, upstanding, unspoiled guys in racing. If you'll notice, commentators love him, other drivers love him, and other car owners love him. You know the only people that talk nonsense about Jimmie Johnson? People who are sick of seeing him win. You don't have to be a Jimmie fan, for sure. I know it's nice to see other people win, but let's be real. There's nothing whiny or childish about the guy. Don't hate him because he's a winner . . . All that being said, welcome Jr. to the Hendrick camp! He's sure to do big things this year with the help of Mr. Hendrick, Jimmie and Chad, and Jeff and Steve.

Junior has handled being always compared to his Father better than 99% of all the people in NASCAR. Does he let a swear word slip every now and then, sure, I do too. All I got to say now is.... Junior, don't pay attention to the crap, just win baby, win!

Comment: The writer of this "article" better do better research in the future if they plan on writing about NASCAR again. The writer obviously knows NOTHING about Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he is described as profane and rebelious, Funny how nothing is mentioned about Dale Jr. being one of the most respected drivers in the garage, and a VERY successful car owner.. Newsweek needs to stick with money and politics.

    DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: mrsdalejr08 @ 02/11/2008 8:16:58 PM

Comment: That's stupid- "profane and rebellious"? Come on, who's the driver who's gotten into a few scuffles over the past two years? Jeff Gordon. Who's the driver who throws a fit and blames his wreck on somebody else? Jimmie Johnson. Then you have Kyle Busch who had on track incidents last season. And Junior's the one who is profane and rebellious? That doesn't even make sense. Junior told fans not to throw on the speedway and never throws a fit and takes responsibilty for a wreck he caused. If he was so profane and rebellious, then why did the fans vote him Most Popular Driver for the 5th year in a row? Fans do not like whiny babies like Jimmie Johnson , Kyle Busch, and Jeff Gordon. Junior is a respectable guy who is laidback and down to earth. He is not profane or rebellious. So before you write another stupid article about Junior and NASCAR, go attend a race and talk to the drivers. Then maybe you'll get the facts straight.

  • Posted By: IUPLotus @ 02/11/2008 8:16:14 PM

Comment: I can't believe you would write something like this. Those who actually know the sport knows that Dale Earnhardt Jr is one of the most respectable drivers out there because he doesn't have an attitude like everyone else! Maybe you should research more before writing on a topic that you're not too educated about.

Comment: When "stick and ball" sports writers try to do an article about NASCAR, those of us who have been fans for years can only shake our heads and laugh. No NASCAR writer or fan would ever refer to anyone but Richard Petty as the "King of NNASCAR". And no one who has been around the sport for any length of time would refer to Jr as being "rebelious and profane". NASCAR drivers, almost to a man, are the most sportsmanlike athletes in the world today. They are not on drugs or steroids and they are not "acting out" like many of the athletes in the news today. It's a shame that the media thinks they must invent some type of controversy in order to interest the public. The true NASCAR fan is proud of our drivers and is happy with the good clean competition. We don't need any "bad boys". We are thrilled to have a sport where we can take our entire family without embarassment due to the athletes actions.

I think he showed that at the Bud Shootout. Sadly Dale Jr ended to make the break from DEI to show the Racing world the driver and man he truely is, and that he isn't just using his family name to be someone.

Comment: ok...seriously?? Junior...rebelious and profane? Junior, the one who told fans NOT to throw beer bottles on the track if Gordon were to beat Sr.'s career wins on his birthday?? The one who commends his team every race, win or not. So what does that make Gordon...who decides to throw his helmet at other drivers' window and says "i'll get you on the track"?????? This writer knows NOTHING about Junior or his sportsmanship. If you ask me, a good portion of other NASCAR drivers could learn a lesson or two from Junior and learn how to be a good sportsman. This author needs to get his facts straight before he dares to say such negative words about NASCAR's most popular driver (voted 5 times in a row, thank you). There's a reason he's held that title for 5 years....and not cry babies like Gordon, who whines every race he loses and puts the blame on every one else but himself. I say, GOOD LUCK to Jr. and I can't wait for him to get more checkered flags this season!

Jr is the popular driver that he is BECAUSE of who he is as a person. He is an honest, resectful, stand up guy. The type that any man would want as a son. Get your facts straight before you start bashing on the drivers in NASCAR. That article was aweful.

I think the author needs to watch a few races and PAY ATTENTION !!!!!!, before he makes such stupid remarks . Dale Jr has always had a deep respect for Rick Hendrick and I am sure that Rick need not worry about dealing with a prima donna attitude from Dale Jr. The writer must have hime mixed up with some OTHER drivers who cant seem to race without acting like little kids fighting !

Great article. Jr. will change. Rick Hendrick is very strict like Coach K of Duke. Rick expect his drivers to always be dressed up in no jeans! He expect them to be clean shaven, neat in appearance and prompt. Rick also has the final say so in all media. So Jr. more than likely will not be in any more music video's or club promtions. Basically Jr. will be Rick puppet for the next 5 years.

The high-profile Dale Jr. is not "profane and rebellious" by any stretch of the imagination. Guys like Stewart and Busch are controversial. But Earnhardt?? Give me a break! Comment: Dale, Jr. is one of the least profane and rebellious drivers we have ever seen. Do you have any idea how happy he is to be "under" Mr. Hendrick's wing and guidance and out from under Tearesa Earnhart's control. She is a good business woman and helped her husband to make the DEI empire what it is today, but she did not understand that her step son is gifted, like his father, and deserved better equipment and a bigger
say in how his career should be handled. Rick and his whole crew run a tight ship and 'we' all believe that this move will be a wonderful fit for Dale,Jr.

  • Posted By: ad68goat @ 02/11/2008 7:21:42 PM

Comment: Jr's Ego? You think Gordon and Johnson don't have and ego every bit as big as Dale Jr. Jr. wants to win, just like every other driver out there at every level of the sport starting at your local dirt track. What you don't understand looking in from the outside is that drivers respect other drivers, most of all the great ones. Dale Jr. is happy to be on a competitive team and wants to win, but I don't think he has any intention of disrespecting his teammates. As far as Daytona goes, no racecar driver is going to slow down to let someone else win, not because they disliked Dale Sr., or because it would cost them money, it would be disrespectful to Dale Jr. and to Dale Sr.'s memory.

He made a choice that was in the best interest of his career. I feel like Hendricks should be proud to have him as a part of his team, after all he is the most populat drive in Nascar. Where did you aurthor come up with the words profane and rebellious from. He did slip and say a bad word on national TV, but I have even seen news anchors do that before do they get penalized $$$ and loose points that cost them the championship!!!!!!!!!

Mr Hendrick's statement in the last paragraph is a statement.. he won't allow any driver no matter who.. Jimmy, Jeff or Casey change the team. Stop making more out of it than was his intention..

How about Newsweek let someone who knows what their talking about write the next article on NASCAR.
