Next time, Newsweek, don't hire a busines writer to enlighten us about auto racing -- a subject Daniel McGinn obviously knows nothing about, and doesn't care about either. The high-profile Dale Jr. is not "profane and rebellious" by any stretch of the imagination. Guys like Stewart and Busch are controversial. But Earnhardt?? Give me a break! And oh, by the way, it's a "checkered" flag, not a "checked" flag, as your writer professed. That's a glaring beacon to his ignorance of the rudimentary language of the sport!

Well it looks like we all agree in one way or another. The season is just starting and already everyone that does not watch the sport has all their comments. Jr and the rest of his team will be fine. So i wish them the best and let the fun begin. OH and about Jr. being a RedNeck just remember where the roots of racing came from.... He is thr peoples champ and it will always be that way... to me ...

i agree with colleygirl ...this person needs to educate himself before making any kind of statement. You really opened your mouth and inserted both feet. The next thing you should do is offer an apology to Dale Jr and MR.. Hendricks

Please get your facts straight before being so negative! I do believe that Rick Hendrick took on a responsability that is rightfully his, leave him alone! He's a very big boy! As for Dale, there is no one more HUMBLE in NASCAR!

I cannot believe this article ....of all the nascar drivers Dale Jr is the most humble and respectful in the garage Apparently this person has never watched a race much less know the story about
Dale Jr and the ultimate respect for people and his fans that his dad Dale Sr taught him ...

I agree! Who ever wrote this article doesn't watch Nascar at all !!! More like Gordon's ego but that???s besides the point.... lol Jr. is one of the most down to earth drivers out there who after having a really crappy year finally gets a win and all we can comment is on his EGO?!?! Someone needs to A. Watch a race and B. Get his own head out of his butt and try writing the article again, this time accurately!

I agree with dalejrfan1980, Jr. has never displayed profane or reblious behavior like drivers such as Kurt Busch has, remember Dale Jr. picked Hendrick, he could've gone to any race team....He is more focused now which probably is in part because of Rick. But he still is the good ol boy he always has been, he just more focused and will be a force to be reckoned with this year...GO 88!

Dale Jr is the most respectful, and polite driver I have ever watched. He not is Dad he is his own driver, do not get me wrong his dad was great and taught his son the trade, but Jr. has kept himself there and will have a good year this year. Leave him alone and let him race. Quit telling lies about being a wild child he will do great with his new team as you all seen on Saturday. I agree Newsweek needs to get a real Nascar watcher to write about the drivers.

I believe they all can get alone together. Everyone has an ego.

  • Posted By: ginzo @ 02/11/2008 7:29:08 PM

I agree with the general consensus that Dale Jr. is respectful and a team player, (contrast rebellious). But the author did hit one nail on the head and that is Dale is not spit and polished liked Jimmie and Jeff. He is a bit of a Redneck and thats why the fans love him and thats why he will complimeint the Hendrick teams!

sounds to me like someone needs to educate themselves on what they are talking about before inserting both feet into their mouth .

who ever wrote that crap is very wrong. dale jr is has one of the best attitudes in this sport.

to kk girl im with you all the way

  • Posted By: rasctiseslkl @ 02/11/2008 7:28:16 PM

I think they all can work together an get alone as well as the next person. Everyone has an ego. Don't matter who you are in life.

dale sr lost his life for micheal waltrip

I am a true Kasey Kahne fan...with Dale Jr. close behind.I couldn't have been happier to see him win the Bud shootout.I look forward to seeing Dale Jr. in the winner's circle again.

  • Posted By: dalejrfan1980 @ 02/11/2008 7:23:32 PM

Obviously the writer of this story NEVER watches Nascar or Dale Jr! Who printed this? Dale Jr is very respectful and has never been profane or rebellious. If there was ever a "good ole boy" to fit in anywhere....it's Jr. Someone needs to get their facts straight and know a little more about the sport than what they assume is the case!

Dale, Jr. is one of the least profane and rebellious drivers we have ever seen. Do you have any idea how happy he is to be "under" Mr. Hendrick's wing and guidance and out from under Tearesa Earnhart's control. She is a good business woman and helped her husband to make the DEI empire what it is today, but she did not understand that her step son is gifted, like his father, and deserved better equipment and a bigger
say in how his career should be handled. Rick and his whole crew run a tight ship and 'we' all believe that this move will be a wonderful fit for Dale,Jr.
