Jr's Ego? You think Gordon and Johnson don't have and ego every bit as big as Dale Jr. Jr. wants to win, just like every other driver out there at every level of the sport starting at your local dirt track. What you don't understand looking in from the outside is that drivers respect other drivers, most of all the great ones. Dale Jr. is happy to be on a competitive team and wants to win, but I don't think he has any intention of disrespecting his teammates. As far as Daytona goes, no racecar driver is going to slow down to let someone else win, not because they disliked Dale Sr., or because it would cost them money, it would be disrespectful to Dale Jr. and to Dale Sr.'s memory.

Looks like none of you know when Jr. won his first race. Just running off at the mouth when you don't know what you're talking about. Cut these drivers some slack, they're just trying to make a living.

I have never seen Jr. be disrespectful or be rebellious. I felt like he handled the situation with his step-mother with great class. He made a choice that was in the best interest of his career. I feel like Hendricks should be proud to have him as a part of his team, after all he is the most populat drive in Nascar. Where did you aurthor come up with the words profane and rebellious from. He did slip and say a bad word on national TV, but I have even seen news anchors do that before do they get penalized $$$ and loose points that cost them the championship!!!!!!!!!

Well, you guys have Jrs. first win at three different tracks. Do any of you know where he won his first Nascar race? Evidently not. He's trying, like every other driver. Cut them some slack and know what you're talking about before you run your mouth.

I think that Newsweek owes Dasle Jr. an apology. I agree that he obviously doesn't know what a great guy Dale is. Shame on them for printing that crap.

  • Posted By: colleygirl @ 02/11/2008 7:11:47 PM

You've got to be kidding be???? Profane and rebellious? When was the last time you watched a race? Jr. has always been very respectful, and polite. Newsweek needs to get a writer who knows what they are talking about! Educate yourself before you decide to open your mouth and insert your foot again.....

I must agree... wiith the majority here... if Jr has an attitude... its a GREAT attitude about where he is today, the team he has joined.. utmost respect for his team mates and as much - if not more for Rick Hendrick, he has done nothing -- I repeat NOTHING to warrant your unjust statement.. Mr Hendrick's statement in the last paragraph is a statement.. he won't allow any driver no matter who.. Jimmy, Jeff or Casey change the team. Stop making more out of it than was his intention..

I have watched nascar for the last 10 years. Junior has always been my favorite. He is humble and a down to earth guy. He could just as soon be a mechanic as a race car driver. I think Hendricks knew a good thing when they took him on with their "crew". He is not profane. I have seen Jimmy and Gordon get into it with other drivers. Junior is the most popular driver in Nascar, even without a Nextel cup. Year after year. Must be a reason for that. Go Junior.

I totally agree with your post. The author of the article certainly didn't know his subject material.

  • Posted By: dalejr88fan @ 02/11/2008 7:03:38 PM

Where do you get off saying that Junior has an attitude? He's extremely respectful even when he doesn't need to be. Case in point the situation with his step-mother. Junior is not like the two pretty boys under Hendrick. He has his own style and he is helluva race car driver. How about Newsweek let someone who knows what their talking about write the next article on NASCAR.

Telling the Truth : Your comments are insulting to all race fans and you obviously are not a fan...... Grow up .. there are only 100 or so odd people in this world who are approved by NASCAR to even come play in the sandbox......you think if JR wasn't good, he would be there? Hello there are sons of other drivers not even close to his stature.

Tellin you have obviously never watched a Nascar race or any other form of professional racing for that matter. If you honestly believe the rest of the racers "slowed down and let him by" just because of Juniors dad, then you DON'T KNOW RACING. You're going to tell me these professional drivers gave up thousands of dollars in prize money just "let Junior win". I don't think any Nascar drivers are that big a Dale Sr. fan. GET REAL, GENIUS!!!!

  • Posted By: RaceFan @ 02/11/2008 6:20:32 PM

Nice Comment "Tellin the Truth" - You obviously have never seen a Nascar race or met a professional race car driver. I can promise oyu, when Dale Jr. won his first race at Daytona (not the first race he won) NO ONE was "slowing down to let him by". Yeah right, all those guys were such huge fans of Dale Sr. that they let Dale Jr. win....therby giving up thousands of dollars to let Junior win the race. Guess again GENIUS!!!

  • Posted By: susie88 @ 02/11/2008 6:14:45 PM

Junior"s first cup win was in Texas in 2000,not in Daytona after his Dad died.He had won 2 times in cup before the july 01 raceand had 2 busch (nationwide championships)in 98 &99 Sure being an earnhardt helped him but he worked hard to become who he is today

  • Posted By: 9FNZ @ 02/11/2008 6:12:57 PM

Tellin, Don't let facts get in the way of good argument you idiot. You should at least do a little homework before you make yourself look like an idiot. Jr's first win came at Richmond, Va. before his father was killed. MORON....

I don't care what anyone says about Dale Jr. he is and always will be my favorite driver. I mean last year had to be one of the worst years he's had in Nascar, but I stuck by him. I think now that he is with Hendrick Racing he will be able to worry about racing and not the company his father started. I know Dale Sr. is looking down from heaven proud of his son for making the change. I will always be a Dale Jr. super fan. I love him as a race driver and he will always be a part of Nascar.

Bribery charges, kickbacks, and more.....Lets see...where would most Americans be if facing or having faced the charges against Rick Hendrick? Certainly not on the front of yahoo's homepage or in Newsweek as being such a great guy...No indeed,,,more like in prison. The man has definatly got a top notch racing enterprise, but look at all the laws he has broken and taken money out of deserving peoples hand to get there. The press builds him up to be a great guy, but the fact is he is a common crook, only one that was able to buy a Presidential pardon. Facts are facts and the man was looking at a lot of years behind bars if convicted on any of the charges brought against him...Save the stories for those deserving of them

i couldnt agree more!!!!!!! his team also has been caught cheating on numerous occasions, i guess he surrounds himself with the same type of ethics that he has........he must be in with fox as well...they couldnt toot his horn any louder. yes mr.waltrip, keep blowing!!

EGO? ATTITUDE? Do you people ever watch nascar? Junior is probly the only driver in nascar NOT to posess these qualities! He is by far the most humble good spirited kind men in nascar. Hendrick made a good choice to sign Junior he went from owning the most hated teams in nascar to now owning the most popular and most anticipated team this season., who more than made they're mark satuday night!
