Obama had the chance to effect change in the senate with regards to gun control, abortion, and the privacy rights of sex abuse victims. Instead of voting "yes" or "no", he just marked "present". How can you make a difference if you're too scared to take a position on stuff like that? agent of change? Come on now.

    • Posted By: hope-3 @ 02/11/2008 5:20:55 PM

Congradulations you have bought into the clinton machine of black vs white.Preaching is a code word for black. It is meant to be negative and divisive.

      • Posted By: shogun @ 02/11/2008 11:06:32 PM

I have listened to OBama almost every day on CNN & MSNBC. I still do not know what he is for or against. I have heard from both "news" stations that his campaign is the same as Clinton but I have never heard his say he was for Universal Health Care or anything about the economy. My vote will go to Clinton. She states her stance no matter the heat she takes from the "news" media. By the way they are not news stations, they are gossip collectors.

Preaching is a "code" word for black. What a moron!

  • Posted By: leatha1 @ 02/11/2008 12:46:07 PM

I am going to assume that most of the posters are too young to remember the good days for the economy when Bill was in office. My husband was working 7 days a week. We had a good bank account and could afford the 'extras'. I live in Florida and voted for Hillary. She is the one who knows the weakneses of the Senate and Congress. She is the one who has met with foreign dignitaries. She is the one who can bring this country out of this crater of a hole that Bush has built and continues to build. If Obama gets the nomination, I will not vote.

To have ideas and excitement about the country is one thing, but to have to do day to day grulling fighting and decision making is another. If he were to be VP this time around and proved himself, then ran the next time for President, I would gladly vote for him. The timing is not right for a greengo, there are too many issues on the rise that affects everyone. During his speeches, I hear nothing about specifics of what he might do. All I hear is excitement about running for office. That isn't what I want to hear. I want specifics so I can make a better and informed decision. There is so much that has to be done, that isit is truely scarey.

We don't need glamor in a presidential election, just the facts

    • Posted By: scorpio4ny @ 02/11/2008 1:47:02 PM

You want the facts? The fact is that Barack Obama has spent years doing the grueling work of a community organizer, constitutional law professor and senator (on both the state and federal level). He helped people in Chicago???s crime-ridden, impoverished southside to take responsibility for their lives and fight to clean up their community.

You want the facts? The fact is that our country is sharply divided and Hillary Clinton can "fight" all she wants for universal healthcare but she will never convince enough members of Congress to vote for a mandate which would give the government the authority to garnish our wages. This is unrealistic. Senator Clinton is peddling false hopes and needs a reality check.

The only way to rally for big initiatives like healthcare reform is to win over the hearts and minds of the folks in the middle. The rigid partisans won't move one way or the other regardless of what any of the candidates say. But the folks in the middle can be won over with reasonable and yes passionate arguments. These independent-minded Americans are who a President needs to form a governing coalition to actually get things done.

I respect Hillary Clinton and value her work but if she wins the nomination, McCain will become the "independent" voice whose record of resisting rigid partisanship will allow him to win the White House. The rhetoric of Hillary Clinton is extremely partisan and there is just too little time between now and November to overcome her branding as a divisive figure.

Americans are fed up with partisan bickering and want to take the country in a new direction. Obama???s candidacy presents the best opportunity for the Democrats to rebrand themselves as the problem-solvers and spearhead the tough work ahead.

Go check out his accomplishments in IL when the nuclear power company Excelon was leaking radioactive waste into the groundwater. BTW, Excelon is and has been one of major contributors along with Resko. If he wins the nomination the Republicans will eat him alive!! Again, do your homework!

Just as I suspected shes not fooling middle america.People in the heartland can see right through hillary and many of these folks have been around for a long time?Wake-up folks this is not about black o r white it's about who is cabable of bringing people together to gets things done and that sure itsn't hillary clinton.

Are these the same people living in the crime-ridden, impoverished southside of Chicago where he was dealing his drugs? Or where he's in with the slumlord who owns all of these unlivable tenament houses? Oh, I'm so sorry. He was only helping his "own" people..... Kudos to him. Give me a break.....

      • Posted By: leatha1 @ 02/11/2008 2:05:23 PM

I agree. One needs to remember that all these promises being made through out a campaign doesn't necessarily mean they will happen. too many hoops to go through to get them passed. And most likely won't be voted on in the same way as they started. I am middle class, and I remember well how good it was in the 90's, work, stock market, life in general. I want it back!

I agree, but not attacked like Dave Schuster om MNBC did, because this was a very gender biased statement, MSNBC news anchors has shown through their behavoirs and the way they cover Obama's and Hillary's Campiagns that gender biases toward Hillary is very evident, because theey reall don't want a woman to become President,, she can be a Senator, but not President, if these male gender biased news anchors have anything to do with it. That's really a shame; after all these many years since women where able to vote, that glass ceiling still exist for them to try and shatter, when it comes to having equality in acquiring very high positions in government. The news media so far, has really boosted Obama's Presidential hopes by constanly discussing every positive thing, he does minus a negatives he may have, as oppose to Hillary, she get all the negative publicity, minus any poistive she may have or don't cover her as much at all unless it's something bad, this is not fair and balanced news reporting, but out right charactor asssaination of Hillary , her family memembers and campiagn staff, Obama has not faced this scrunity, but his day is coming if he win the nomination and face the Republican Nominee, then the racist news anchors will let the the hammer down on him, clearing the way for the Republicans to win the Presidency again.

I see Hilary in a new light. PANIC and she is becoming more negative. So at the polIs I decided to go with Obama. I feel I was right. She's been in the political arena too long and has learned some back stabbing, manipulations from the best of the "good old boys" Isn't this country tired of that yet.
Let's face it Bill has no moral fiber and can't say anything against someone else. He's become an old record.
The choice is simple do we want to continue down the same old road then take a look at the old news reels from the 50"s on and you will see what I mean....OR do we want to show every country in the world that we are an intelligent ,diversified, country with fresh new ideas to include ALL of our peoples. When you vote think of your children and grand children and their future. The world will be in their hands.

We have enough Clintons! To have a three against one election shows a notable weakness on the part of the Clintons. Or maybe we may have in a few years another intent of a younger Clinton in the oval office? All I know is that the Clintons either attack Obama or copycat him. Neither option will give us a good president. Please Hillary be yourself for once!

  • Posted By: Acmacho @ 02/11/2008 5:24:51 PM

The comment by Mr. Nicky Adamson on Chelsea Clinton coming across at 'so intellectual" illustrates the bias against women in society especially college age voters. I want an inspiring leader but I want a vetted and intellectual leader most. It seems evident that many college age voters are voting for the person they seem to think comes across better in speeches as opppossed to voting for a more experienced and vetted one. I for one want a true leader that will make a change for the better in America. Obama is a great speaker and in time will make a great leader but not just now. A watched an interview that proves with Will I Am, that proves my point, even though he is little older than college age he reaches out to college age voters. When asked why he backed Obama vs Hillary he stated that he was inspired by him because he reminded him of certain people he grew up with that helped him in his life. That's great, but it was telling as well because he couldn't pinpoint one policy decision, one platform, anything of real subtance. Just the fact that he reminded him of someone. That's the equivelant of people who responded to Bush, saying they'd rather share a beer with him than Kerry. If Obamw wins the election watch for Bush redux.

Hilliary does have more experience. but does that really translate into getting things done. What you want to do is look at her record as a U.S. Senator. What has she accomplished ? What has she done for healthcare, the ecomomy, pollution, etc. in the state of New York. Most of what Hilliary is celebrated for, (the heathcare mandate) she attempted as a First Lady. Remember her husband was the public servant not Hilliary. Then she moves to New York, not because she particuarlly cares for it's people but because it has one of the largest delegate votes in a presidential election. Why did she choose to run for the U.S. Senate in the state of New York ? Why not Illinois where she was born ? Or Arkansas where she has ties as the First Lady to her husband as Gov. ? Read her bio. She is more noted as a First Lady of Arkansas and the U.S. than she is as a Senator. So let's not overblow her experience in public office. She has been in office longer, but isn't it about what you accomplish ?

Barack Hussein Obama was born in
    Honolulu,
Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from
Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita,
Kansas.to me its not about race its about religion, look what happening in dauffur sudan white arabs are killing black christians, I have a problem with religion, if harold ford of tennesse a black american christian were running I would vote for himin a heartbeat, even if muslim was blonde hair and blue eyes and he was running against the darkest black man who happened to be a christian I would vote for the black man, if you want to call me a religious bigot then do so, but I am afraid that the very existence of israel would be in jepordy with obama presidency, I feel hillary will be much strong in protecting out country.if she looses my second choice will be john mccain a rockefeller liberall republicananyssways he would be good

Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two
    years old, his parents divorced.

His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a
    RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.

When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia.

Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta.

He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim.

He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also
    attended Catholic school."

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that
    Obama's
introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was
    temporary at best.

In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce,
and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham,
    introduced his stepson to Islam.

Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim
terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world.

Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking Major
public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined
    the
United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim
    background.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential
    candidacy.

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside
out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the
President of the United States, one of their own!!!!

ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office - he DID NOT use
the Holy Bible, but instead the Kuran (Their equivalency to our Bible,
    but very different beliefs)

Obama also refuses to pledge allegiance the the USA flag. How can
someone who wants to be president refuse to commit to the USA.

Before you vote for any candidate I'm sure you can search the internet
and find out about all the candidates

    • Posted By: USMCGrandma @ 02/11/2008 2:42:07 PM

If this is true, and I know some of it is, and I will be researching the rest, why is the media quiet about it? I don't remember the media being so kind to any Presidential candidate, except for Obama, and I've been wondering why.

      • Posted By: truself03 @ 02/11/2008 5:00:56 PM

What's funny is that before the Iowa win all the coverage was on Hillary. She was suppose to be the "easy winning front runner". But it seems everyone in America does not feel that way. Now all her supporters are bent out of shape because it's not the walk over they thought it would be. If anyone has been crammed down our throats, its been Hillary. Ever since Bill Clinton (who was the one voted in) took office. Don't blame it on the media Obama is just running a great campaign...Get over yourselves.

The only person is Hillary. Thats why there is so much negativity from the media on Clinton. Wake up American Democrats, They do this delibratley. The media employees and the rest of the creeps make big bucks. They dont want to have to pay higher taxes. They want us middle class people to pay. Makes me sick!!!

Certainly she would be a great campaigner for her mom. Lets ask Roger Altman, Pierre Chambrin, Ming Chen, Henry Cisneros, Jean Hanson, Paula Jones, John Hailey, Jerry Parks, Dennis Patrick for some candidate feedback on Hillary, oops most of these are in jail or had mysterious deaths.

It's amazing how Hillary changes her strategy and who she uses so blatently. Chelsea after loosing the young vote, nice to Obama after being slammed, and the latest - use a black person to reclaim those votes. Doesn't anyone watch this? I think Chelsea is a very private person. Too bad her mom is using her like this.

    • Posted By: ChazB11s Lady @ 02/11/2008 1:28:33 PM

amazedatthis ~ I disagree with you about Hillary USING her daughter. It is clear that Chelsea feels so strongly about her mother that she would do anything to help her because she believes in her mother and her mother's ability to run this country. My daughter and I have the same kind of relationship (we are best friends) and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her or visa-versa. Maybe you don't know this type of love and respect -- how sad for you!

Honestly amazeatthis, What really amazes me is that how many stupid people there are for voting for Obama. Its mostly because he is black or nicely dressed, or he looks good, or he is inspirational, or he is goodlooking. What moron would vote for this guy for that reason? He has done nothing. Mostly the media is making him to be something he is not. Believe me when I say, There is a reason for that. The reasons are because the owners and employees are REPUBLICANS. DAH. They make a sh*t load of money every year. They know if a Dem gets in there they will have to pay. They DO NOT want Hillary to run against McCain. Mc Cain will surely loose. Obama is the person being used here. Wake up!!!

It's 2008, time to take off the white sheets and comment on the (real) issues........

  • Posted By: German @ 02/11/2008 8:15:58 AM

First: Here in Germany a reporter like Mr. Schuster from MSNBC with a rude comment most likely would have been thrown out. With his comment he helped the Clintons quite much, as many would probably think "I help this poor little girl".

BUT (second): Chelsea Clinton is not a little child anymore.

At Feb. 8 there was a detailed report in the biggest and highly respected german newspaper "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" about the work of Chelsea Clinton (second page of the business section).

After studying in Stanford and Oxford Chelsea was employed at McKinsey in New York. She earned right at the beginning several hundred thousand Dollar per year. At the end of 2006 she changed to the HEDGE FUNDS "Avenue Capital" at Wall Street where she is CURRENTLY EMPLOYED. Her annual salery is estimated several hundred thousand Dollar.

Here in Germany someone like Chelsea Clinton is considered as a true lobbyist. Very interesting for germans, maybe also for US citizens and not commonly known.

In germany many of these hedge funds are responsible for the unnecassary asset stripping of many companies and the loss of thousands of jobs.

For those who don´t believe google "Chelsea Clinton Avenue".

Perhaps the best for our party is to combine these 2 fine and intelligent people to represent the Democrat Party. If that should happen, it won''t take long for the GOP to try to run them both into the ground. Is it too much to ask that all Democrats vote with their conscience, live and let live, and then support whichever Democrat wins the party? If we dont, we will have McCain and more of the same. Leave Obama and Hillary alone!!!!!

I agree! Personal attacks don't belong in this election. If you don't agree about their stance on an issue that is one thing -- but to attack a candiate and/or their family members personally should be off limits. It does not solve anything and it is ugly and immature.

Bravo! to the Clintons, great job!!
60min show truly showed who is the experienced and who should be president; Hillary Clinton. She was gracious and knowledgeable. When Katie asked if she had help Obama raise money for his senate campaign, she answered very nicely yes, and yes for the questions did Obama ask her for her advice. She seemed very gracious and very warm in all of her answers, The bashing is really so bad for the American People, they are not let to make up their own minds. On the other Hand Obama was also very nice, however I feel he is always given a free pass.
