She's a stinking idiot. She sounds like a manipulative and unpleasant shrew. If people just communicate and treat one another fairly and honestly then life is good. It's not about training. That way of thinking is a serious problem in society.

I would suggest that before you jump on the bandwagon and bash this book to bits, try to find Amy Sutherland's story from 2006 that was published in the New York Times. It's funny, sensitive and thoughtful, and not at all offensive to men or women in particular. It's just showing us that we're really not so complicated, and happiness isn't necessarily a difficult thing to achieve.

If you treat your husband like a dog, you end up being married to a dog, which is not what you'd want. Being manipulative is unhealthy to any relationship, even when you may get him to pick up his sock. Sutherland's advice is not healthy. If you want a husband who acts like a mature adult, treat him like a mature adult. (You may treat him like a dog if "he" means your 3 year-old son.)
