So Much for a Warm Welcome

John McCain is the presumptive GOP nominee for president. In the face of serious opposition, his campaign is reaching out to movement leaders and trying to make nice.

Comment: It's a good sign that McCain isn't an ultra-conservative. He's someone who will compromise and bend. Someone who could become a very good president in his ability to not always conform to the party line. Unlike Obama, who always stays strictly democratic and is an extreme liberal. McCain is far better suited to do what is best for the country and not worry about party leaders whispering in his ear what to do.

Comment: Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans??? rights, said: I have been following John McCain???s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is ??? deceit.

"When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it. Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better."

John McCain is the classic opportunist. He's always reaching for attention and glory, he said. After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.

Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, and a former presidential candidate, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel -- even by the standards of modern politics.

Comment: McCain did not vote to "close a gun show loophole" as there is no gun show loophole to close, and wasn't one!
This is McCain helping the left wage a discrimination campaign against firearms owners in which there is something wrong with the gun owners' rights at all times, real or imagined! If not here, then certainly there. Making a false "threat" out of a person's rights is a discrimination campaign... the call to action is to remove the right.
McCain has done AS BADLY before on the firearms issue. His pro gun credencials are fairly new and VERY THIN! McCain has done WORSE on first amandment issues ,too!
McCain is all rudder and no keel! Unsafe at any speed!
    (a little Navy talk, there).
    Write in Romney!

Comment: Not much has changed, Pia.

I do think the GOP will mostly unite behind John McCain. What choise do they have! Just as the Dems will mostly unite behind Obama.

Independents, as usual, will decide the election.

Comment: Such figures don't come much more "top" in either political party than retired four-star General Wes Clark, the former Supreme Allied Commander Europe for NATO during the Kosovo War

What Wesley Clark said about John McCain

"I know he's trying to get traction by seeking to play to what he thinks is his strong suit of national security," Clark said of McCain while speaking from his office in Little Rock, Arkansas. "The truth is that, in national security terms, he's largely untested and untried. He's never been responsible for policy formulation. He's never had leadership in a crisis, or in anything larger than his own element on an aircraft carrier or [in managing] his own congressional staff. it's not clear that this is going to be the strong suit that he thinks it is."

Resume aside, though, Clark also took issue with the Arizona Republican's instincts on national security. "McCain's weakness is that he's always been for the use of force, force and more force. In my experience, the only time to use force is as a last resort. ... When he talks about throwing Russia out of the G8 and makes ditties about bombing Iran, he betrays a disrespect for the office of the presidency"

Comment: The fact about Senator McCain is he has been a fantastic teacher! He, himeslf, and all by his self, has taught conservitives to never, ever trust him on domestic issues! He worked very hard to teach this leason!
And for conservitives it was a VERY expensive course of instruction, and in the end... not worth much! It was also an unforgetable lesson!
McCain does not quite understand the lesson he taught, and with such enthusiasm! Or that HE is indeed the teacher!

Comment: Oh happy day!!!!!!!!!! Bad news for McGremlin.......

Today's Gallup - "Since Hillary Clinton decided to concede the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama last week, Obama has established a lead over Republican John McCain in general-election polling. Obama's gains have come more from women than men, though he has picked up among both groups in recent days.
Obama's lead among women has now expanded from five percentage points to 13."

    Wait guys, it gets better..........

"One of Clinton's core groups of supporters during the nomination phase of the campaign was older women. During the last few days of her active candidacy, Clinton led McCain by 51% to 41% among women aged 50 and older, while Obama trailed McCain among this group, 46% to 43%.

Since Clinton suspended her campaign, older women's vote preferences have shifted toward Obama, so that he now enjoys a six-point advantage over McCain."

Oh happy day!!!!!! The TRAITOR, CROOK, FRAUD, WOMANIZER is slowly dying!!!

If US has a PRESIDENT of this magnitude appeals WOW !!!!!!really AMAZING real Talented never in AMERICAN history before,Im really PROUD to be American Again,,he's Zionist, Muslim, Christian, Black, White,Buddist,Hindu,Bengali,African,Red-Indian,Chinese,Japanese,Hawaiian,..........WOW this all are an ASSETS smart Americans can be proud of,only the FOOL and STUPID can treats this as LIABILITY that look exactly like themselves.

Barack Obama would actually be much better for America security. There's no doubt to me McCain would be better than Bush, the Bush years being probably as much about fueling terrorism than fighting it. But McCain would still represent (but less) what can be seen as America's arrogance, something that makes USA so unpopular around the world. A black man with Hussein as a middle name would send a clear message in Middle East that America is about freedom, an important contrast with some form of imperialism. Combined with Obama intelligence about understanding dialogging with enemies, I humbly think this would affect directly terrorism recruiting. I may sound over-optimistic, but I think his image alone as a president could do more for democracy in Middle East than any war.

This Economy common sense!! yet many Americans have difficulties to understand the basic of their existence in first place.Check out the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18 and 19). Take a look at Romans 1:22-32. Pretty sobering reading - if you are not too self-important and arrogant to think you've already got it all figured out and don't need the input of the Ancient of Days. Don't guess they teach Proverbs 1:7 at those Ivy League school.

The country, more than ever is a melting pot and this requires more open mindness than what people like Coulter and Limbaugh are capable of. It has everything to do with his dogged support of this insane Iraq war and his loss of contact with reality as to exactly how long it will take us to "win" in Iraq. The thing that will sink John McCain is definitely his blind support of this war started so illegally. McCain supports Bush's war so the right just loves McCain.

Comment: All I can say is, if the ultra right wing pundits hate McCain, that makes me like him more. However, it is possible that they are pretending to hate McCain in a effort to make him seem more palatable to mainstream voters (who fear the vociferous ignorance of the radical right), similar to how they are urging Republicans to vote for Clinton in primaries, to make it easier for McCain to win, since Clinton is a less substantial foe than Obama. It's all just a shell game.

I'm a Republican and even a rather conservative one, but the holier-than-thou "professional conservatives" (people who make money off of peddling ignorance and hate) make my blood boil. They make the GOP look like a bunch of KKK lunatics, and discourage lots of normal people from being Republicans.

Comment: While that seems to make sense in a classroom, in the real world the Dem and GOP stand for different issues on their party platforms. The GOP is anti choice on their party outline. They appoint judges who support that. IF one is prochoice, environmentally concerned, anti corporate tax breaks, etc., there would never be a reason to vote for a GOP candidate. And especially, after the previous 7 years where the GOP party and congress ruined our country, I believe it is quite appropriate to follow a party. It's time for a change and a time for reason and logic. VOTE DEMOCRAT.

Comment: After reading this article in my current issues class it urged me to come here and post a comment about the madness that political parties have created. It seems that a majority of our country's population will be basing their votes on whether one person is conservative or liberal, and democratic or republican. I may sound like an ignorant teenager but it seems to me that a story with the sole purpose of talk show hosts shooting down a candidate for not being an extreme conservative republican should not have gotten this far. In my opinion people should not look at it in the way of what party one follows, but rather their plans to make our country better. By badmouthing someone for having both liberal and conservative thoughts is hypocritical and absurd, aren't people allowed to think more than one way? It just seems that politicians are running for the support of their label and not for the better of the country.

Unfortunately, that WAS the situation for the country 7 years ago. They voted (not the majority but you know that story) and many did die in an illegal invasion of another country. Bush lied to the American people time and time again.

Comment: when I was a little boy and someone said something derogatory about me which I, in turn, related to my mother, she gave me advice which is still valid today: "consider the source!"

The degree of criticism and vitriol against John McCain by a legion of . so called, right wing talk show hosts and authors is less about legitimate and constructive political criticism and discourse than about commerce.

For better or worse, much of the conservative movement has been coopted by individuals posing as "experts" and "commentators" while, in fact, they are "entertainers" and celebrities."

Ruhs Limbaugh, Anne Coulter, Seah Hannity, et al are part of a lage and very profitable industry which makes millions of dollars for their employers, sponsors and themselves by packaging fear and hate and by playing on emotions and insecurities to generate and activate an "audience" which they can turn into revenue.

The voices currently arrayed against John McCain are orgainizing and embarking on a camaign to destroy him for one simple reason: it makes for good television and radio. It is a far more entertaining, not necessarily enlightening, show to whip up the audience, take a few calls to incite the no nothings even more and generate pubicity and get your name in the news magazines (like Newsweek) to build the ratings and book sales even further.

The Republican Party made a deal with the devil a few years ago; in exchange for support and allegiance from conservative talk radio, it would allow this medium to both dominate and dictate the political agenda of the Party. Now it finds these money changers have not only moved into the political temple, they are deciding who else should be allowed in and under what circumsances.

Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter have always cared more about their commercial success than the future of conservatism. They and their ilk are all about their interests, not the public's. If, in fact, this group is successful in splintering Republicans and depressing voter turnout and enthusiasm for Senator McCain, they will be aiding and abetting in a massive landslide for the Democrats wih all the uncertainty and danger such a cataclysm would contain.

Conservatives wake up! Stop being manipulated and played by a group who care more about their ratings and next book deal than the future of our party and its nation. Like it or not, John McCain needs every conservative vote he can get to stave off the ;possibility of handing over this nation to the Demcoratic Party for a decade or more. What are you going to do, go along with the recommendations of a group of self promoting right wing celebrities or vote your conscience?

Remember this is not like American Idol. This is serious stuff and we should begin to act like it rather than listen to self serving righ wing versions of Simon Cowell.

She does what is necessary to attract attention to her simple-mindedness. I think it is funny that her website lists rules for posting that include no obscene or vulgar comments when that is exactly what she spews each time she opens her mouth. She can dish it but she can't take it!

Comment: Sure! McCain's a liberal! And, I'm a conservative leaning sort . The electyion however is not for individual favorites, instead it is about who is best to moderate the leadership of the country.. This takes, I hope, a generally good and knowlegable person who can bring together enough of the people, including enough members of Congress, to best serve all of the peoples of our nation foremost. Then secondly, be able to assure the rest of the world that we're for the over all best interest and support as well. If in November John McCain looks like the best of what's left -he gets my vote. If not it'll be whomever fits the bill.

Comment: While I recognize that there are many issues facing the next President, I find it difficult to believe that the single most important priority issue is how we are to "handle" the world of "crazies" that are coming after us from the radical muslim world. The only candidate that has the world experience and the gutsyness to scare and take on these "crazies" appears to be McCain. To look at the democratic candidates as being able to do so, in my opinion, is gross error and will result in the youth of today struggling in a world where their predeceessors failed to remove the "crazies" from the environment. McCain is clearly a very honest individual who's record establishes him as one of the few senators who has never catered to the special interest groups and was ready, willing and able to create and sponsor legislation that contained ethical standards that our legislators otherwise would simply avoid. McCain avoids tacking on "earmarks" for millions of wasted dollars, something the democratic candidates seem to spend without concern for propriety. I've been a registered democrat all my life. I now intend to wear an "independant hat ," casting my ballot for McCain. I can only hope that the ultra conservatives and religious right see the banality of their opposition to McCain and come to recognize that he is the only hope for this great country

    Comment: Editor

In this volatile age, when everyone in the country is reeling from drive by shootings and campus massacres, it is incredibly irresponsible of the editors to approve a cover showing part of the head of a major presidential candidate just below the words (in large bold type) "There will be blood." Notwithstanding the fact that this is the title of a current movie having nothing to do with the presidential campaign, are there no staff sensitive or perhaps ild enough to remember 1963 and 1968? You could not have planned a cover more dangerous to and unsettled or paranoid mind. For Shame!

Comment: I think that a lot of people are mising the point of talk radio. They only reinforce the convictions that some of us conservatives have. I don't need them to tell me what I think, I already know what I think through my own beliefs and ideas. McCain, a great American hero, has left true conservatives a little irritated. He has always had the ability to "reach out" to the other side. That is a great thing, but not to the detriment of true, conservative values. The Republican party has moved to the middle, and the Democratic party has moved to the far left. We conservatives feel as though we really have no choice in this election. It is truly a choice between the lesser of the evils. The only thing that I am holding out hope for is a real good vice-presidential pick. That might help out a lot of conservatives, but then again, it may not.

Comment: Your first paragraph mischaracterizes what Ann Coulter said. The interviewer, knowing that he is Jewish and she is Christian, chose to boldly take up the issue of religious beliefs with her, and then took offense that she 1) has a non-relativist belief in Christ and 2) believes everyone should know Christ as their Savior. Now if he, as a Jew, doesn't want to hear this, then he shouldn't press the point with a genuine Christian. But he is the one who was uncivil in his intolerance.

The GOP did it and if things were going well, we can all be sure that the GOP would be taking credit. They would have to - they had Congress and The White House until last November. Comment: I listen to talk radio quite often. It does give a sense of the current "feelings" of the moment. The problem is, they think that they speak for us, and that the listening public is too unenlightened to think for themselves. I have heard many strong arguments for policy from most of the pundits. However, I have also heard many plain stupid ego-driven comments from them . Myself, I think Rush is still on the Oxy"s and that Coulter needs to get laid. She's too high strung. Maybe an unsatisfied ***.

We know right from wrong, good from bad, righteous from evil. and up from down. I for one wish we would turn them off for 30 days and see what happens.

Comment: Sorry oldefarte, I'm not buying and you shouldn't be selling it. Only a political hack, like McCain would attack conservatives who back the military 100% and only a lib would dredge up supposed 2000 campaign spin. We know McCain will pour troops into shadow war and then pull the rug out from under them with court cases in favor of terrorists. The conservatives are real Americans and we've had these liberals like Hi-liar-y and Ba-racist shoved down our throats by the MSM and lib-lovers like McCain. It is the ultimate psychological projection. Vast left wing calls everything conservative vast right wing and has the celeb/media/minority/lib special interest/academia promote it. And then shove a loser rino at us to vote on. My only hope is the sc justices live another four years and Bush blows the hell out of Iran before he leaves.

Comment: What are you "not buying"? I've had it with you back of the cave troglodytes posing as "conservatives". As one of the other authors noted, yours is not true conservatism - true conservatives want reduced governement. You and your Bushite friends are all for more government intervention, albeit pushing control of your agenda as opposed to the loony left's agenda. "Stalinist" is the better term for your political persuasion. I find it amusing that you think "only a liberal" could make the points I made - yet, on the Patriot Act, it was that arch-conservative, Bob Barr, who joined with Barbara Boxer to question the advisability of letting the government into everyone's home under the name of "fighting terror". Know what Barry Goldwater said when asked about gays in the military? He started talking about a gay friend of his who had climbed the cliffs of Navarone on D-Day with his fellow Rangers to silence the Nazi guns overlooking the landing beaches. Then again, we all know that Barry Goldwater was a flaming liberal, unlike your style of "staunch conservative", you know, guys like Sen. Larry Craig...

Comment: I'm a war vet. So is John McCain. Neither Limbaugh nor Coulter have ever served their country in any capacity, let alone in a war. I'm a father of war vets. So is McCain. Neither Coulter nor Limbaugh (nor their hero, George W. Bush-League) can say the same. Where do these people get off impugning a man of McCain's stature and record? Not conservative enough? His conservative ratings are excellent. He's far more conservative than either Romney or Huckleberry-bee, but they were willing to grovel and kiss the ring of obnoxious, right wing pundits and family value preachers living large on the largesse of their followers. Limbaugh needs to get off his self-promoting high horse. He was party to the vile campaign tactics used by Rove and Bush against McCain in 2000 and the result is that the Republican Party is now rightfully despised because of the spendthrift incompetent whom he and Coulter and their ilk backed. Mr. Limbaugh needs to take an Oxycontin and chill out. Then he can give some of that Viagra he likes to smuggle to someone near Ann Coulter, so that she can finally get laid and lose the b*tchiness.

He has been one against simple civil liberties such as his attempts at wiping out smoking. I don't smoke, but is it really the function of government to tell someone they can't or try to destroy the tobacco companies, which makes a legal product? Then, there's the steroid thing. More importantly, his legislative agenda has been one with the Democrats. Rarely, was he an ally of the conservatives. He is anti-second Amendment. He helped the Democrats in blocking Bush judicial nominees. He voted against tax cuts, saying it favors the rich, words normally spoken by liberal Democrats. And finally, the top issue where he told conservatives to go to hell was the illegal immigration amnesty bill that he co-sponsored with none other than Ted Kennedy. Yeah, I'll vote Obama or Hillary before I'll ever vote for this guy.

The assortment of lemmings that take their opinions seriously, in a year of hope and glory, with our first women and first black breaking centuries old taboos to rise against the very neanderthal thinking,-- surging forth with positive and heroic messages of hope, that all Americans can aspire to the mountaintop, not wallowing in the right wing swamp , but bursting forth with epic vigor, leaving the knuckledraggers beaten and breathing the last ugly gasps of intolerance .There is no time to waste with these hyenas and their rotten stinking message and vile gossip, as their defense of the horrific waste of life and treasure in the Iraq War, is hideous , and they are rapidly seeing the end of their time, and the beginning of the fresh clean and invigorating era of progressive American values again. Honor, respect and dedication to the original stirring values, that has inspired the earth to look to us, as an eternal beacon of fairness and truth - the majestic greatness will return by years end, and the squalid and dishonest will crawl back into their swamps, as the light of truth is shining and the years of ugly darkness are finished. We have three senators running for president two are liberal one is main stream and we have no right wing loones at this time thank you very much. The liberal option is no differnt then the right wing loon as no good can come from this the only option for the good of the country is main stream.McCain is the main stream candidate and a vote for McCain is a vote for America anything less is a vote against America. When you review the records in the senate MCcain is the mainstream candidate Obama and Clinton have both failed America as senators so why would we promote them?A Obama or Clinton Presidency would rival that of Jimmy Carter possibly the worst President in the history of the country. It is unfortunate that many of the younger voters in the country can not learn from history. It is clear that an Obama or Clinton presidency will sink this country faster than a bowling ball in a kiddie pool.

What they fail to see is that they are the problem and we can see through them. While their theatrics are good entertainment, we are tired of their hate-filled rhetoric, tirades, and lies. The traditional heart of the Republican Party is returning to its roots because we see through these neocons. We know of their Iran-Contra propaganda and untruths about Whitewater and the Clintons.

Two examples of their favorite rantings come to mind: homosexuals and abortion. In 2008, most Americans have a gay family member, coworker, neighbor, or friend. We realize that gays don???t want ???special rights,??? just the rights afforded them under the U.S. Constitution. I???m not even going to discuss gay marriage here, because straight people have done enough to make a joke of this sacred institution. No person I know would ever be in favor of abortion, but it is legal and the right of the mother. Why must the right-wingers decide that we are not intelligent and need them to decide our opinions on these issues?

Limbaugh, Coulter, Ingraham, and Hannity and their like have enjoyed a ride, but now we see though their vile. Their opinions are yesterday???s news and we are tired of them. Perhaps they should form their own party, because they are no longer welcome in the GOP. The Republican voters decided that at the polls.

Perhaps they should form their own party, because they are no longer welcome in the GOP. The Republican voters decided that at the polls.
