We right wing conservatives might not be gung-ho over McCain being our nominee for president come November but we will all be on the train when it leaves the station. None of us want a sleaze-merchant like Hillary or a Louis Farrakhan desciple like Obama leading our country.

      GI joe is right.
We should cast our lot with S&L scams, beer jockeys and adulterers.
      All aboard.

Conserative is myth in america The republicans are More like Giant TAXS Consumers. All the Gop talking heads are just as out of it as McCain. Conservatism has been dead since 1980 this is Giant Tax Consumer policy. Waiting to create a depression. McCains Admin. policy All you can why'll you can, if you don't somebody else will. Taxs dollars or fair game just cya rules. Bush ,McCain SAMO SAMO.

McCain has a better chance of winning by moving to the Left, despite what the conventional wisdom may be coming out of the right wing of the Republican Party. He should demonstrate the courage of his convictions and press ahead with a moderate platform. Forget about bowing down to the Limbaugh altar. Americans no longer care what these blowhards think.

It's odd they all successfully feed off bashing the liberals when the liberals have not been in charge of anything since the 1970's. The Republicans took over Congress in 1994 and we are nearing the end of Bush's second term. Before Clinton, Republicans were in charge 20 of the previous 24 years. So why aren't they angry and spouting at their own kind?

I'm just curious. I would like to know what Rush, Ann, Shawn, Laura et.al. have on the bottom of their DD214?

  • Posted By: mari2JJ @ 03/31/2008 12:23:16 AM

Hmmm, the problem with McCain has nothing to do with his being conservative, moderate or liberal. It has everything to do with his dogged support of this insane Iraq war and his loss of contact with reality as to exactly how long it will take us to "win" in Iraq. The thing that will sink John McCain is definitely his blind support of this war started so illegally. McCain supports Bush's war so the right just loves McCain.

Newsflash to Newsweek. The right has united behind Mccain after some venting months ago. Creating a divisive story for the GOP right now is just an attempt to fan an already put out flame. Nope, GOP has the ability to fight and support each other while the Dems are out for the kill and destroy their own. With this, which party do you think can work together to get things done? The GOP of course.

  • Posted By: OTHA @ 03/30/2008 9:03:18 AM

PERHAPS SEN. McCAIN IS SPEAKING FOR AMERICANS NEITHER ON THE FAR RIGHT NOR THE FAR LEFT. I KNOW I'VE HAD ENOUGH TYRANICAL RULE THE LAST 8 YRS BUT I SURE DON'T WANT A SOCIALIST STATE AS ENVISIONED BY THE LIBERALS/

While that seems to make sense in a classroom, in the real world the Dem and GOP stand for different issues on their party platforms. The GOP is anti choice on their party outline. They appoint judges who support that. IF one is prochoice, environmentally concerned, anti corporate tax breaks, etc., there would never be a reason to vote for a GOP candidate. And especially, after the previous 7 years where the GOP party and congress ruined our country, I believe it is quite appropriate to follow a party. It's time for a change and a time for reason and logic. VOTE DEMOCRAT.

After reading this article in my current issues class it urged me to come here and post a comment about the madness that political parties have created. It seems that a majority of our country's population will be basing their votes on whether one person is conservative or liberal, and democratic or republican. I may sound like an ignorant teenager but it seems to me that a story with the sole purpose of talk show hosts shooting down a candidate for not being an extreme conservative republican should not have gotten this far. In my opinion people should not look at it in the way of what party one follows, but rather their plans to make our country better. By badmouthing someone for having both liberal and conservative thoughts is hypocritical and absurd, aren't people allowed to think more than one way? It just seems that politicians are running for the support of their label and not for the better of the country.

Although Mr Bell isn't a follower of he lunatic fringe, he does seem to feel that if the country votes for a Democrat president, we will all die.

Unfortunately, that WAS the situation for the country 7 years ago. They voted (not the majority but you know that story) and many did die in an illegal invasion of another country. Bush lied to the American people time and time again.

It's time for reason and logic. Vote for change and vote Democrat. Vote for whichever candidate is running against McCain.

when I was a little boy and someone said something derogatory about me which I, in turn, related to my mother, she gave me advice which is still valid today: "consider the source!"

The degree of criticism and vitriol against John McCain by a legion of . so called, right wing talk show hosts and authors is less about legitimate and constructive political criticism and discourse than about commerce.

For better or worse, much of the conservative movement has been coopted by individuals posing as "experts" and "commentators" while, in fact, they are "entertainers" and celebrities."

Ruhs Limbaugh, Anne Coulter, Seah Hannity, et al are part of a lage and very profitable industry which makes millions of dollars for their employers, sponsors and themselves by packaging fear and hate and by playing on emotions and insecurities to generate and activate an "audience" which they can turn into revenue.

The voices currently arrayed against John McCain are orgainizing and embarking on a camaign to destroy him for one simple reason: it makes for good television and radio. It is a far more entertaining, not necessarily enlightening, show to whip up the audience, take a few calls to incite the no nothings even more and generate pubicity and get your name in the news magazines (like Newsweek) to build the ratings and book sales even further.

The Republican Party made a deal with the devil a few years ago; in exchange for support and allegiance from conservative talk radio, it would allow this medium to both dominate and dictate the political agenda of the Party. Now it finds these money changers have not only moved into the political temple, they are deciding who else should be allowed in and under what circumsances.

Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter have always cared more about their commercial success than the future of conservatism. They and their ilk are all about their interests, not the public's. If, in fact, this group is successful in splintering Republicans and depressing voter turnout and enthusiasm for Senator McCain, they will be aiding and abetting in a massive landslide for the Democrats wih all the uncertainty and danger such a cataclysm would contain.

Conservatives wake up! Stop being manipulated and played by a group who care more about their ratings and next book deal than the future of our party and its nation. Like it or not, John McCain needs every conservative vote he can get to stave off the ;possibility of handing over this nation to the Demcoratic Party for a decade or more. What are you going to do, go along with the recommendations of a group of self promoting right wing celebrities or vote your conscience?

Remember this is not like American Idol. This is serious stuff and we should begin to act like it rather than listen to self serving righ wing versions of Simon Cowell.

Ann Coulter adds no value to any conversation. She makes controversial statements as a way to make money. She has no legitimate concerns or views about anything. She does what is necessary to attract attention to her simple-mindedness. I think it is funny that her website lists rules for posting that include no obscene or vulgar comments when that is exactly what she spews each time she opens her mouth. She can dish it but she can't take it!

Sure! McCain's a liberal! And, I'm a conservative leaning sort . The electyion however is not for individual favorites, instead it is about who is best to moderate the leadership of the country.. This takes, I hope, a generally good and knowlegable person who can bring together enough of the people, including enough members of Congress, to best serve all of the peoples of our nation foremost. Then secondly, be able to assure the rest of the world that we're for the over all best interest and support as well. If in November John McCain looks like the best of what's left -he gets my vote. If not it'll be whomever fits the bill.

They have large audiences because unfortunately they have a large following. There are many who tout compassionate conservative when in reality they are/believe/live the opposite.

  • Posted By: dr doug @ 02/17/2008 7:00:58 PM

I have always wondered why Limbaugh and Hannity etc. have such large audiences. Don't their listeners work? I personally don't know anyone who has the afternoon available to sit around and listen to Limbaugh or the son of the Devil, Sean Hannity. It was mentioned that Thompson, Guiliani and Mitt were seriously flawed. Absolutely true but so are all the other candidates. Republicans look for another Reagan. I look fro another Kennedy.

While I recognize that there are many issues facing the next President, I find it difficult to believe that the single most important priority issue is how we are to "handle" the world of "crazies" that are coming after us from the radical muslim world. The only candidate that has the world experience and the gutsyness to scare and take on these "crazies" appears to be McCain. To look at the democratic candidates as being able to do so, in my opinion, is gross error and will result in the youth of today struggling in a world where their predeceessors failed to remove the "crazies" from the environment. McCain is clearly a very honest individual who's record establishes him as one of the few senators who has never catered to the special interest groups and was ready, willing and able to create and sponsor legislation that contained ethical standards that our legislators otherwise would simply avoid. McCain avoids tacking on "earmarks" for millions of wasted dollars, something the democratic candidates seem to spend without concern for propriety. I've been a registered democrat all my life. I now intend to wear an "independant hat ," casting my ballot for McCain. I can only hope that the ultra conservatives and religious right see the banality of their opposition to McCain and come to recognize that he is the only hope for this great country
