Comment: IF YOU HARBOR A DARK, UNCONSCIOUS PREJUDICE AGAIST SLY PSYCHOLOGISTS, DOES THAT MAKE YOU LESS THAN MOST POLITICALLY CORRECT? Up with Obama, you sly, dumb psycho(logist), or slychologist, if you prefer!

As a psychologist, it is probably just some idiot taking these studies out of context. Happens all the time.

I was once labeled as a misogynist and even though to me this seemed virtually impossible and the farthest thing from my mind, I opted not to be automatically dismissive and decided to do some self-reflection. Because we tend to have natural biases, we may not be the best judges of our own character. I think the article/research has less to do with the fact that people are misogynistic/heterophobic/racist, etc. and more to do with the fact that they are those things AND they do not realize that they are. And this may manifest itself in ???unwanted??? subconscious behavior. The ramifications of such may mean receiving ???different and special??? treatment when visiting the local hospital, being passed up for promotions/raises at work, being shot by someone who mistakenly thought you were pulling out a gun when you were reaching for your wallet, etc???

But speaking of the subconscious, I???d like to bring up another point. I believe most people consider Barack Obama to be a ???black??? candidate for the presidency but he is actually bi-racial (black Kenyan father, white American mother). Shouldn???t he be considered just as white as we consider him black? If you ever get a chance, read Stowe???s Uncle Tom???s Cabin. Thanks K.K.

Wazoo is a white male. Just a conjecture.

When I see wise men talking about race...I first try to see the race of his/her partner or spouse ...You can see the action she/he took......show me the path you've taken yourself and I'll listen.

my daughter just finished a college class on racism, and I can't wait until reality sets in, and perspective is returned. Apparently whites are "Big Bad Whitey's" and owe the blacks - I honestly think there was very little discussion about any other race. I believe 100% we ARE equal. And dermitrice - below - can smugly call us all closet racists, which merely catagorizes him with the others who jump to conclusions, and make rash decisions, putting people in boxes rather than treating each person as an individual - nice going dermitrice - if we don't agree with the article or you - we're closet racists?

And maybe all of you morons who are lapping up this BS should stop posting, since your own obvious bias against people with minds of their own who disagree with your idiotic politically-correct nonsense make you hypocrites.

    • Posted By: Dami @ 02/15/2008 3:35:45 AM

Beacuse if we ignor the BS then the people who are putting it out will, slowly chip away at our freedoms until we have no more left.

I see what you mean by prejudice. This article was obviously directed toward white people--to be fair, not all of them, just the ones that don't feel guilty enough.

When are we going to start seeing more articles directed at minorities in mainstream publications? Where are the articles that Blacks, Latinos, Gays, and heroin addicts can read that speaks to them alone? Such an article, written by a white heterosexual, would inevitably have a "you're-better-than-me-because-I'm-just-a-big-mean-white-guy" attitude, which is actually as condescending and unconducive to equality as any other prejudiced statement you could make, no matter how misinformed.

These attempts to make all white people look like bigots by subjecting a non-representative smattering of them to dangerously manipulative psychological "tests" are themselves indicative of bigotry.

I completely agree...why is it that among the groups mentioned were women and gays? Why does the media seem to only talk to a certain demographic?

What is wrong with you people? Just look in the mirror and see that your face does not look like the one of anybody on the streets, that not just the face but all of you is unique. As loong as peopole will not be all of one standard for that long they will be cursing about the "four eye" that cuts him off the parking place or the "fat" that take to much space in the airplane. If the person is nice it does not matter the color or size or smell. When couples divorce because they cant stand each other is normal but if they are not married is racism ? Get a grip of your self and stop labeling everyting based on what beach combers are giving you to read and stop paying for their pH diplomas about nothing. I am white and I do not like all the whites just as I do not like all the blacks. So that makes me a racist? Because a person does not like his job or his husband/ wife it does not means that he does not likes gay or martians. The person is expresing his feelings and at the moemnt emotions. Do you need to make your life more difficut than it is because your phone is smarter than you? Maybe you express your hiden prejudices for smart phones, or against the fact that Indians and Chineses are 2/3 of the population and statistically the chance for larger numbers of smarter and richer people is in China and India? Lets say that I like a person over someone that I dislike do you think that if I have the choice to work with one of them, his color or hight or his sexual perference will mater over my level of comfort? That make me a racist ? Why I am not racist when I choose a plain mobile phone that does not know more than me over IPhone?

Martin Luther King Jr. said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." I guess now, the whole "content of their character" part is out too, since that would indicate bias.

  • Posted By: zarathustra10 @ 02/15/2008 3:32:41 AM

its very easy to find out where we are with this....just count mix race marriages. Categorize with the mix of different race.........isn't this the best indicator of where we are....

I listen to people talk about the days when blacks were no where to be found, and all I can say is thank god I live in a white state. The horrors of car jacking and drug peddeling blacks are not to be found, You can still drive down the road with your doors unlocked and you don't have to worry about walking on crack vials. Blacks will never advance to the level of Caucasions. How many centuries have they had Africa to do with as they pleased? I'm sure the reason Africa is in such a backwards state is because of the white man, right?

    • Posted By: digafe @ 02/15/2008 3:30:38 AM

Have you been in Africa? You sound very ignorant, and a victim of local TV news about Africa. How do you measure civiization? What ever you are thinking of being superior has a history of less than 100 years. Before that civilzation was in Egypt, Greece, even Ethiopia though not mentioned for diffrent reasons. Currently you know who is the rising star, so do your self a favour by looking how civilzations rise and fall.

there it goes why must there always be a white protestant dfining all blacks as crack heads and theifs, tell me this. blacks work in the stock market but dont own it, however, whites do, and they are the biggest thiefs ever they take ppl from countries to work for free, steal indians and everyone else land and tax dollors, so who is the real thier? "Can drive saftly with no black around?"

You do not have to be a racist not to vote for obahma. He is not experienced to deal with the world problems. He has a moslem upbringing and his words are hollow and meaningless

Unless a candidate has ran a country before; they will never have the expeirence to run a country. Second, It does not matter what a candidates religious upbringing is, or what their gender is, they must meet the requirements to hold the position, and it will be the citizens choice who that person will be.

I am a cop. I used to patrol in a primarily black area of the city. I would respond to radio calls and sometimes I would have to arrest someone who is black. It never fails at some point when going from the location to the station they say, "You're just doing this cause I'm black". My standard reply is, "No, I???m doing this because broke the law by..." Insert whatever crime you want. Then the person will usually tell me I'm wrong and repeat his declaration that I'm doing this because he or she is black. So I will reply, "I tell you what, If you can show me one white person committing a crime between here and the station, I will let you go and arrest them." This is to make a point, because the person will usually look around with interest, until they realize that they only see fellow blacks on the streets.

Everyday I see people of all races who won't take responsibility for there own actions. Instead they want to deny. If they can't deny then they move on to blame. This is also reflected in the laws and attitudes of this "Politically Correct" trend the country has adopted. We have denied bias and prejudices for a long time, now we are on to blame. This article basically says that they think everyone harbors some bias. Is that bad or good? Is it bad that I like apples more than oranges? Why? Because apples taste better to me and are more filling for me. Is that a bias that needs to be analyzed and corrected? Let???s restructure the laws to make oranges a required equal part of my diet. Wait... isn???t that what Affirmative Action is?

Everyone just needs to take responsibility for there choices and actions and stop trying to use the minority or prejudice crutch to walk with whenever it suits them.

What's in the heart proceeds out of the mouth. If we make it our business to disect other's hearts, we should tread carefully. Jumping to conclusions is a huge problem, and who's to say test takers don't look at the pictures, see their eyes, their expression, that causes them to catagorize the pics. I'm personally sick of looking for our hidden evils - let's face it - none of us are perfect. Loving, like learning, is a life long endeavor - we have come a long way as a society, but individuals need to disect their own hearts, and no one needs someone else jumping to conclusions about another's motive, another's deep beliefs, etc. Do these monotonous, division making, tests ever ask why someone put one pic in one category over another? - sounds like, from the article, that the test makers are the ones seeing color - I for one am someone who would see the expression, the contenance, the body language. Assuming still makes an ass-out-of-you-&-me. What ever happened to the psychologist's beliefs that there at least six different reasons for every human behavior? - to say so and so does such and such for this EXACT reason, goes against all my college psych & sociology teaching, texts and professor's lectures. And hoorah for political correctness, if it is a factor in eliminating blatant abuse, outrageous behavior, & vivid displays of hatred. Perhaps the next generation will not be so poisoned by all the words we heard from our relatives, perhaps they will get - that we were all created equal. We are all human. And, if this is as good as it gets - the way it is now, then let it be - stop trying to stir the pot to bring it back to a boil.

Very clever test. After people get bored their reactions slow down. The test administrators then announce that the test-taker is a racist. Harboring dark thoughts. Betraying the values they claim. How to beat the test? Have two speeds. Use slow speed for the easy questions. Then switch to high speed for the trick questions.

In Apenheul, a zoo in the Netherlands, there was one group of Lemurs (Varecia variegata). Some of them were brown, others black with white. For some years there were no problems. Then suddenly the group split in two parts along 'racial' lines: a group of brown lemurs and a group of black and white lemurs. One of the groups had to be relocated to another zoo.
When there are tensions in a group of primates and the group falls apart, it falls apart following a distinguishable mark. Something like skin-color, color of the eyes, religion, etc.

I personally am very prejudiced against lawyers and legislators trying to pass laws and waste my tax dollars in a vain attempt to force me to accept people based on their race, gender, sexual preference, etc. I do not have to accept your misguided notions of political correctness. I only have to tolerate people, not accept them. There is a difference. In my opinion and from a lifetime of observation, African Blacks are the most prejudiced people in the world. - T.G. Wazoo.
