For many years I have been fastinated with Abraham Lincoln and have assembled quite a personal library of books related to him. (and read them all) I am a 40 something and feel reading about such a great leader is an inspiration to me both personally and professionally. I recently did a term paper on Lincoln as a leader - my closing was to be reading the Gettisburg address, however, I was so caught up in the power; emotion and passion of Mr. Lincoln, that I had to recuse myself from reading it. I was overwhelmed by his greatness.

Comment: Abraham Lincoln is at once the most complex and one of the simplest humans to grace this planet. The honor he brings to us as a people is often underrated. He is an object lesson for current and future presidents to live not for the history books but for the people. He could not unite us as a people but he guaranteed our survival as a nation. As we approach his birthday next year forget arguing which state contributed most, instead read again his great lessons, engage our future problems and guarantee his legacy for all the people.Tom

Presidential leadership in the US over the past several decades has been, at best, mediocre. With few exceptions, the presidents lacked the courage to stand up for the rights of the citizenry. Too often, the leadership of this country towed the line dictated by special interest groups. Men like Abe Lincoln who have the courage to do what is right are rare. Interest in Abe Lincoln should never die.

I am sorry this article did not mention that Lincoln's formative years were spent in Indiana.
Had he lived reconstruction would have been a lot different. We may not have the Klan. I think life would have been a lot more equitable.

I am surprised that Lincoln's time in Indiana was not mentioned in this article. He lived here from age 7 until 21. These were his formative years.

Lincoln was and by far the only true anti slave president to date of his time. I always have marveled at his courage to abolish slavery. It took guts, balls, and a little bit of overbearingness on his part. great men/women are always criticized by those who do not want them to succeed. Had LIncoln been permitted to live and be a two term president we as a nation would have seen alot more great things come from his leadership.. Namely the developement of the Utah territory of the day.

you guys have a great week. Todd
