Someone should check Joe Miller's facts! Ron Paul was asked about the North American Union and the NAFTA Superhighway at one of the debates. He responded that it wasn't a "secret conspiracy" at all, but a public conspiracy of ideas, among those who put regional and global government above national sovereignty. Ask someone in Texas about the Trans-Texas Corridor. It's no myth.

Ron Paul never had a chance of winning the GOP nomination. I never thought he did, but have given his campaign $250 on three occasions.
The r3VOLution has never been about Dr. Paul, an odd man with a nerdy personality and image. Factor in his lousy debating skills and a vicious media bias, and it's obvious even to the credulous. This is about conservative values and, more importantly, the Constitution.
Ron has been a catalyst(remember Goldwater?) to a movement that is tired of being taken for granted by the GOP. We are the lifeblood of the GOP, yet they laugh in our face, installing one neocon after another.
Ron reminded us that we don't have to "hold our nose" and vote for someone that doesn't share our values just because that's all the GOP wanted to offer us for candidates.
His candidacy isn't the ratification of the Constitution, it's the Battle of Lexington-Concord. This r3VOLution is only getting started, baby!

Looks like Mr. Miller just talked about current expenses for the year 2006. He forgot about future expenses of the empire that was maintained in 2006.

For example if $572 billion went to defense spending in 2006, that doesn't include the interest that will have to be paid in future years...money that wouldn't need to be repaid had the $572 not been wasted in 2006.

Also in 2006, plenty of military personnel lost their lives or got injured....more money will have to be spent for those veterans' benefits or health care in future years.

Also I get the impressions that Mr. Miller thinks it's Ok to spend 572 billion on the empire because "It's not $1 trillion as Ron Paul says"

If you borrow to maintain an empire, the interest on that debt is *definitely* part of the cost of maintaining the empire. Same with the cost of medical & retirement pay for veterans. This is obvious. The only question is whether to count the debt interest & veterans costs of past exploits that we're paying for currently, or count the costs of current exploits that we'll pay in the future. Counting the costs of counter-terrorism is correct too. We're the target of terrorism because of our military involvement overseas. Stop the meddling overseas and save the counter-terrorism costs.

This is unbelieveable to me. I have personally laid eyes on the plans for 4 of the 11 sections of the purposed Trans-Texas Corridor which, by the way, dead ends at the Mississippi River. Just in case News Week's geographical research is as bad as its fact checking, I should tell you that the Mississippi River does not run through Texas. Furthermore, the company named in the proposed contract is a joint venture between Cintra a fully Spanish company listed on the IBEX-35 with the ticker symbol CIN, and Zachary Construction of San Antonio (my home). The majority share holder of Cintra is another Spanish, Ferrovial. Cintra is to get the proceeds from the toll road for 99 years in return for helping fund, as well as buying debt bonds for the construction. Zachary is to execute the construction. No one in Texas, besides Zachary, wants this road. It represent the largest eminent domain (theft) in the history of Texas. Ports all over Mexico, and highways between the ports and the Corridor are being beefed up to as much as three times current capacity as I type this. It is openly discussed as a way to bypass the Panama Canal's high prices and long waits. I know this because I was working on securing financing for the port expansions until November of last year when I began to see the whole picture developing. Interestingly, our fake Republican governor Slick Rick Perry is holding the details of the agreement between his administration and the Mexican government in a blind trust. This is how I know for a fact that y'all so-called journalist at Newsweek are at best underinformed. We the People of Texas have been requesting the release of this information, as well as Slick Rick's emails, under the Freedom of Information Act for some time. We have been stonewalled though. The most facsinating thing about all of this is that the same types of discussions were had in Europe about 30 years ago. Make no mistake, this is in FACT a movement toward a kind of North American Union. What it is not is a conspircy. This is just a fundamental deference in belief between Government and their Corporate bedfellows, and We the People. You see We the People don't like the anit-trust laws that Newsweek's parent company, The Washington Post Company, Lobby so ardently for, nor do we like to give up our soverienty in the name of controlled trade. Especially when we are served the controlled trade on a platter that is labeled North American Free Trade Aggreement. We particularly hate it when government moves to errode our personal liberties and then attaches a name like "The Patriot Act", or "The Protect America Act." Frankly, it is condisending. Keep in mind that Ron Paul supporters are not crazy or strange, they are just the tiny part of the population that are actually well informed in the arenas of history, monetary policy, foriegn policy, and the role and force of social psychology in the gradual rise of global fascism.

This article did present the reader with quite a bit of factual information.... in the comment section. It's too bad you don't print the comments in your rag but I guess that would be just a little to much truth in NewSpeak.

That there are men in all countries who get their living by war, and by keeping up the quarrels of nations, is as shocking as it is true; but when those who are concerned in the government of a country, make it their study to sow discord, and cultivate prejudices between nations, it becomes the more unpardonable.

The author of this news article is either ignorant or purposefully overlooking/distorting facts (I would assume the former to be true, but the connection here with the mainstream media would also make it very possible for the latter to be true).

Ron Paul's views on the issues here mentioned have been distorted or taken out of context. He has answered many of these attacks during interviews and debates; therefore, the writer should refer to his answers before writing such attacks toward him.

Ron Paul has never referred to the NAFTA superhighway as a secret conspiracy (he was asked about this highway during a CNN YouTube debate [it would have done a lot of good for the writer to listen to his response]). NAFTA is no conspiracy - nor is it a secret. It's fact. You may want to write off Glenn Beck and many others as quacks and odd balls for also researching NAFTA and coming to find the same factual information. The NAU is also real - and it is recorded fact that Mr. Bush and Mr. Clinton have signed deals toward a North American Union. All it takes is research to easily find this information from credible and reliable sources. The former president of Mexico was interviewed recently on Larry King Live and made mention of the NAU. There's no secret... there's just people like the writer here who try (for some reason) to convince people against the truth. I find such journalism to be quite odd and quite interesting.

I'm not sure what your motives are, sir. But, all you're doing is revealing to the nation that you are ignorant and happen also to be biased toward a presidential candidate who has had record breaking support. The media has obviously been biased toward Dr. Paul's campaign - before any elections or delegates were given. Many people are beginning to think outside of the media - and for that, I am thankful.

That was a nice hit piece but unfortunately you didn't do YOUR research. I find it interesting that you didn't mention the Federal Reserve. Probably because you couldn't dispel the illegality of it and the harm it does to our country.

Ron Paul is my hero! He is a man of utmost integrity. He calls it like he sees it. He cares about us, not the establishment. Newsweek is part of the establishment. Independent journalism is a lost art.. There has never been a more selfless politician than Ron Paul. Your attack on him is a badge of honor. It vindicates him. He has started a revolution. He brought us back to our Constitution, for which we are ever grateful.

Well, finally an article in the national media about Dr. Ron Paul. No or little mention of his life. Doctor, veteran, 10 term U.S. Congressman, married 51 years to the same woman, No mention of the endorsements made from those in economics and academia. Hardly any mention of the culture that has sprung up around the American message of freedom which originates from the American constitution. Music, radio stations and programsprograms

  • Posted By: mystiker @ 02/13/2008 11:34:08 AM

to continue my comment...this article is just a continued example of how the American news media has lost its' integrity and objectivity, being owned by just a few corporations. If you had just taken the time to seriously look at his economic and foreign policy views...well, it probably would not made a difference. Because of the lack of reporting on American election fraud and American blatant media blackouts hardly anyone believes the US media anymore.

Even if he's not perfect, I am a Ron Paul supporter, big time. You're going to an awful lot of trouble there. Who pays you? That's what I thought. Pledge some money to that new breakthematrix.com. All those who'd like to cut Big Brother, with all his nasty habits, down to size are going to to so. See you at the March. You really had to stretch the truth quite a bit here didn???t you? Looks like you dug for info that supports your anti-paul agenda and ignored everything that supports his claims and reasoning along the way.

1: please show a quote where Paul refers to the NAU as a "secret conspiracy". Are you so naive as to believe that business giants have not considered the benefits of a North American Union? Of course they have, you moron.

2: Our "empire". There is so much info to support that we are spending more than a Trillion dollars overseas. When was the last time that our government stuck to the budget? We spend billions on projects that Americans never get to know about. I want you to go listen to everything Paul has ever said. He has said "we spend a trillion dollars overseas" but when talking about cutting he has always said "we could save hundred of billions of dollars". You took Paul out of context and put words in his mouth. You should be so ashamed. I wish you had the nerve to try and spout your uneducated, false propaganda to my face, you piece of sh!t.

3: Reagan. Reagan talked the talk .. he did not walk the walk. Reagan said some kind words about Ron Paul. Where is the fault in quoting him? It in no way affirms that Paul re-endorses Reagan. He has, on several occasions, during this campaign sited his disappointment with Reagan never changing the size and scope of government. Reagan???s words were an inspiration to many .. Paul wants to bring to light that his actions did not match.

We have one guy running who could put action to his words and you use your energy to smear him. Keep supporting your thieves and liars. You are a disgrace!
