‘Our Country Is in Trouble’

This man is right on. Either address it now for a dime, or clean up the mess after a nuke goes off in New York. Obama - be careful what you wish for, because you may be elected to address this mess.

The solution is simple and proven.

Cold War. Drop back and warn them off with nukes. Let them mismanage their own countries.

Change the Cold War tactics. Al Qaeda's writings in Mosul lament that the Iraqi's "go to the highest payer." This seems to mean that our paying these armed guys $10 a day is the mostly likely reason the war changed. At least that's how Al Qaeda sees it.

We could pay these oil country street thugs not to kill each other. It would cost us much less, and be much more welcome than our big bases.

We once financed Bin Laden. If we were willing to admit our error in forcing the Arabs to make way for the Jews -- mistreated by European Christians, not Arab Muslims, we could make a big first step.

We did a great job in WWII. We saved what Jews were left when no one else would have. It is bunk that we owe them anything for not going in earlier...Hitler was hardly our fault. And wars are darn good to avoid. They are the lucky recipients of our valentry; the fact of a genocide doesn't change that.

We should then, and so we should now, have said we don't support the Arabs having to make way for a Jewish state. Even today, a just solution would have the old Palestine as just that...Palestine. The Jews there would be a substantial minority, and a great engine of wealth. Many moderate Arabs already live and work with Jews daily. With a single democracy in the single region that the Brits called Palestine, we'd have a just and modern soluton like South Africa.

Again, we did a great job in WWII. We made one mistake. That's okay. We just need to have the courage to fix it. Withdraw our support for Israel. And do offer Israeli's US citizenship: we have a special commitment to their individual wellbeing.

Bin Laden's criticisms are reasonable. His desire for a fundamentalist regime over there is fine in this sense: it is yet another in a long line of bad governing ideas (feudalism, communism, etc.) The Iranians were already pretty sick of the mullahs with just 25 years of their revolution. Memories of our old support for the nasty Shah were fading from their mindset, and reformers at Iran's universities almost pulled off change. Eventually they will break through. Let the fundamentalists mismanage a bit. Their own failures will be the best tonic.

They would be happy to sell us oil at a decent market price, if we stop offending them with our self-rigtheousness on Israel and our bases on lands deemed delicate for them.

As much as American govt. turns away from real Bin Laden, Michael Scheuer is trying to justify Bin Laden to the other extreme saying that US is aiding India which suppresses Muslims. Yes, India has some religious issues but to state the India is oppressing Muslims is ridiculous statement. India has the second largest Muslim population after Indonesia. India was ruled by Muslims for about 10 centuries, and today, except for Kashmir issue, which started as a political fight that was turned into a religious thanks to Pakistan (by the way, principal ally of USA), the situation became more worse. I do agree that Indian politicians completely mishandled the Kashmir issue. Here is the paradox. So called Kashmir fighters thrown thousands of Hindus from Kashmir and till to date, they have nowhere to go and by the way, western govts and NGOs never paid attention to it. Michael telling that US is helping India has something is a recent phenomenon. Until few years ago, India was completely side stepped by US as it was using Pakistan for Afghan???s war. India objected the role of Pakistan and other jihadis but US could not foresee the debacle of US policy and consequences. In India, if there is any big road block that is preventing Muslims from merging onto the mainstream is more of their own vote bank and religious fundamentalists than Hindu nationalist leaders (there are definitely some bad ones here too). Muslim leaders and clerics wants to keep their population in poverty and ignorance because educated community is a threat to them. That is what is happening in the rest of the Muslim/Arab countries.
