I agree...People just don't seem to care or they are just that naive not to be aware of the seriousness of our situation. I think they just don't care. As long as their wallets are fat and they have their big house and their fancy cars, they just don't care. 2021 is NOT that far away. I try not to worry about the future. The sad thing is that the few people who try to do something positive and make a difference are highly outnumbered.

And where are they looking for fresh water? The Great Lakes. The desert southwest wants to pump water out of the lakes up here (I live in Wisconsin)--the eight governors + the premier of Canada signed a compact agreeing that they wouldn't let that happen. The southwestern states want the federal government to step in and MAKE us give them our water. For what? Golf course, swimming pools, and lawns in the d****d desert? You folsk

I live in Jacksonville, Florida, and we have what is called an "Air Index." Our air index gives a idea of the quality of our air for breathing. We never had to have an air index before we built massive coal fired electric generators, around this city ,so as to be able to send/sell electricity to "rat land" (i.e. local slang for disney land).

My advise for those around lake Mead. Stop sending/selling your precious resource to Mexico! I bet that lake would fill up in now time. It is time we understand why things are getting bleak in this country. Big government is selling our soul. We need LESS big government dictating to whom goes the water from Lake Mead, or electricity in my State. And surely the people of American should drink America's water first. Well, shouldn't they drink it first?
If you don't stop the water from leaving the uSA, you will have the water in the uSA. It is that simple folks, but if we don???t stop selling our great Country???s resources, we will run out on a local level.

Actually the lack of regulation is a bigger problem. I think we need more regulation, but the problem is by who. Without regulation, the over-rich people who control these things become greedy and their damage spree is allowed to run unchecked, kind of like what's happening anyway when you consider the big picture.

Hmm, pseudo-science, "theory"... seems like a lot of armchair scientist talking. (And many people who need a refresher course on the context of the word "theory" in science.) Climate change is a natural phenomenon and is occuring-- all the time. The issue here is human intervention increasing the speed of it beyond what environments and species, such as human, can cope. We, like every other bit of life on the planet, do affect climate. (If you don't believe it, get off your kiesters, brush the dust off your science book that has some hints on the basic scientific method, and do some experiments yourself.)

i have lived in various cities with severe water shortage. Mumbai, Nairobi, Mombasa ,chennai. One needs to understand that water is life. if we abuse it we will face the consequence. Population is defenitely a big problem. newer cities need to develop in the US where there is plenty of water. we certainly can build a vegas in the desert and get millions to visit.....only until we run dry!!! or we need to buy water from other countries like singapore does from malaysia while conserving its own water resourses for the future!

Then they better send all the illegals home shouldn't they?

    • Posted By: farid04 @ 02/15/2008 11:35:49 PM

what's your problem, what are you talking about, eyeswideclosed? Stick to the concern about our water supply and concervation, keep your views about illegals to yourself, this is why the world is the way it is, people like you just say nonsense, stick to the issue of the article, focus.

What's your problem what are you talking about? stick to the concern about conservation, put your illegal views somewhere else! Focus on the issue.

I lived in Las Vegas for four years just having moved to Colorado a year ago. I visited Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and the first time I was there I asked myself how long it would be before it dried up. Also, I am a native if Ohio where water is plentiful. My water bill in Las Vegas was less than half of the amount of my bill in Ohio. The bottom line is the overpopulation. If there are 400 new families moving to Vegas every month, and the amount of extra water needed is not equal to the growth then the bathtub will drain. And that is just Vegas. Much of the Southwest depends on Lake Mead and Lake Powell and I have seen both. It is not a pleasant sight.

think of it like this. the biggest problems we have in this world is simple over population. to many people and not enough resorces. i do belive we are speeding up the climate changes weather proves it ... its hotter in and around larger city than in the country. more heat staying. i could go on and on. onemore to think about over weight people means 1 bigger clothes A which means more material and chemicals 2 more water being used A drinking B washing clothes and themselves 3 larger materials A larger cars B furniture

Global Warming is a big issue. All of you who think it's just a normal thing. Look back at our history, and you ask yourself , "how long will humanity take to understand that it is real and is happening right before our eyes".. People wake up!!!! think about our children our future. Then start acting. Start acting now!! not tomorrow now!!!!!

Yep, records here were broken, something was happening and still is. record temps whether it be cold or hot are being set. Last summer we had 3 weeks of temps in the 100 degree range, reaching as high as 110. Highly unusual!

The climate change is happening with or without man. Better use your southwast water wisely as the great lake states have banned the pumping of water to the rest of the country. So -That might mean higher prices for your water or population control.

Carnabylane, while I'm no republican you go blaming the bush administration for this happening the last 20 years, lets be passionate, lets be vocal, but lets make sense too. I'm no desalination (sp?) expert but if the earth is 70% water, why can't we filter it to a usable level (drinking, showing etc...)?

Also a true environmentalist and global warming believer doesn't just vent their comments on some comments page, they mention to they change things. They change their friends mind; they change their families member mind, then create political petitions and make their voice heard (in a positive way) what's happening. Aside from replacing a few light bulbs and driving an energy efficient car (which isn't as efficient as my gas guzzling motorcycle) and making your opinion known (which is always 100% acceptable) what have you really done to contribute something to the issue?

And with that said I can't say I have done anything other that replace a few light bulbs and get a motorcycle instead of a car, and while I understand scope of the problem, I know for myself that I'll adapt to what changes in my environment... even if it is a hard to impossible life in the southwest.

lawns, swimming pools, fountains, and golf courses are not indigenous to the desert. water waste is water waste. Build a future that coincides to the land. Lets not be mindless and unmindful about our futures future.
This is an example, a warning, and one that can be hopefully turned around. CONSERVATE resources!! They are precious.
