What exactly are Mr. Obama's genuine accomplishments? I ask this in all seriousness, because I listen to him and am very impressed by his eloquent statements about what he wants to do as President of the US. Sounds great, but LOTS of people SOUND good, but can't DELIVER. So I am compelled to ask, on WHAT has Obamma delivered ? WHEN has Obamma delivered the goods? HOW well was his delivery accomplished, and to WHAT entity? He got elected - fine. What has he accomplished with that ? WHO does he represent? As I said, Yes he sounds GREAT! but that is meaningless if he's got no track record as proof that he has the "goods" the ability, the SKILL that is necessary to perform this incredibly complex and powerful job! Hillary is certainly NOT my choice, but why should I, why should ANYONE choose Obamma over McCain? I'll be interested in hearing your views out "there".

Comment: Obama has WAY more experience in running government than Clinton does. Clinton was a spokesperson who acted as an ambassador during her husband's term and ran her household (of which she didn't do a good job of either). Even while on Clinton's watch as the senator of New York, terrorists attacked the World Trade Center AND Hillary Clinton sided with the worse president in the history of the United States to launch a FRUITLESS war that has cost us BILLIONS of dollars and THOUSANDS of lives and you would have the audacity to side with an individual whose husband, as the president, was having oral sex with some girl named Lewinsky, and this is who you want running your government? Obama has generations of experience of running policy and running a state. Every child in the State of Ilinois receives FREE health insurance and this is the FIRST state to have such a plan. OBAMA implemented this. OBAMA helped to build the resurgence of jobs in the state of Illinois after the factories and plants shut down. OBAMA implemented strategic plans to put those people who were in those factories back to work and OBAMA IS also working on plans to reform the damage that has come about from the mortgage and lending institututions that have caused so many to be in foreclosure. SO besides running a state, here is a person who has FAR greater experience running government than Hillary. I'm not going to argue with anyone who doesn't want to check the facts. Just know that you will be used by the strong "hand of government", to implement Hillary's plan to garnish and tax all the employees in America WHETHER they can afford it or not. My mention of the "heavy hand of government" was an answer that was PARTICULARlY given by CLINTON regarding how she would FORCE her "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE" on ALL individuals, ( of which I left reference as to where to check in earlier comments). This was Clinton's DIRECT ANSWER AND WORDS regarding how she would enforce her "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PLAN". If you want to know what and who the CLINTONS are about, go look for the TRUTH, and you can start with this stunning film "Hillary! Uncensored". Also visit, www.barackobama.com. Comment: THIS IS WHY AMERICANS ARE VOTING FOR SEN. OBAMA, AND NOT SEN. CLINTON. SOME PEOPLE ARE COMMENTING THAT SEN. OBAMA DOESN'T HAVE EXPERIENCE, AND THAT HE HASN'T DONE HIS JOB IN CONGRESS, WELL HERE ARE THE FACTS.

-Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. - and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law - 20 - twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.

These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.

      1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.

      2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.

      3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

      4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.

      5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.

      6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.

      7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.

      8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.

      9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.

      10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.

      11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.

      12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.

      13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.

      14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.

      15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive. 16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.

      17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11 18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.

      19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.

      20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.

Sen. Obama's Record- During the first (8)eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced...

      233 regarding healthcare reform,

125 on poverty and public assistance,

      112 crime fighting bills,

      97 economic bills,

60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,

      21 ethics reform bills,

      15 gun control,

6 veterans affairs and many others.
all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.

An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public.

      He's not just a talker.

      He's a doer.

Another reason that Hillary cannot possibly understand us is the Mandate included in her healthcae plan. Come on now, we just cannot allow this to happen. Under her plan, you will be forced to pay for healthcare, EVEN IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT! This will mean your paycheck will be garnished, or you will pay a fine. Now, if I cannot afford it in the first place, how am I going to pay a fine, or have the money taken out of my paycheck. What will be the penalty? Will I go to jail? I hope we wake up. Barak's healthcare plan is more sensible. He will make it affordable to anyone who wants it. Now, that just seems like common sense. You cannot get something from somebody if they don't have it to give!

This is exactly my point. Please forward this message to ten people with the instruction that they forward it to ten more people. Keep it rolling. Get our message out there. People are conditioned and bred to believe that whatever the Clinton campaign provides must be good. It feels good, so they don't research anything. It is a slave mentality, that can keep people fighting for something that TRULY does not have their best interests at heart.

      • Posted By: Jrmapu @ 02/16/2008 8:25:12 PM

Texas925 and Dr.Lindsey, you both still don't have a clue. I know this for certain, no one will go to jail because they do not have insurance. Forward this down the river, how much is "cannot afford"? I know the stories of people who cannot afford medical. I deal with it on a daily basis. The federal government has not changed the federal poverty level for all citizens since 1934. How can a family of four afford to live on $1100 a month? Our seniors and disabled cannot afford to buy thier meds. Healthcare is everyone's responsibility. After all we live in a democracy don't we? The premiums are being passed along to US middle class people. We are not the only ones who should be paying. Bottom line. Pass this down your crappy rhetoric river. A Clinton administration gave us a great economy, jobs, foreign relations, etc.. That is the hope I am voting for.

Comment: Let me ask you Jrmapu, what do you think that Clinton means when she states she will use all powers and "the heavy hand of government" (Andres, Washington Times, 2/14) to force all and mandate the removal of a payment from one's paychecks for her "Universal health Care insurance"? Have you truly understood the political agenda that each candidate represents or is there some underlying reason as to why you are clouding the issue? Did you know that Obama's fiscal budget is based on a modern day Robin Hood approach. Are you a millionaire? Would you have a problem with supporting someone who is less fortunate than yourself? Obama has an 'Each one teach one' and 'wealthy give to one' approach.

Excuse me? First of all, don't use scare tactics into making everyone believe the healthcare is going to be a big part of the heavy hand of government. That is the biggest NIGHTMARE fairy tale being told. I work in government, specifically in medical benefits. I know the laws that come down and I have to enforce them. I may not like them but that is the reason i have a job. I am a lower middle class whom benefited from the Clinton regime in the 90's only to have it taken away in the 2000's by the Bush regime. No I'm not a millionaire and shame on you for insinuating I am ignorant to what is going on. Obama is a breath of fresh air, but thats as far as my loyalties go in regards to him. If I was comfortable in HIS agenda I would back him whole heartedly. I am voting experience over inexperience. Bottom line. When he grows up get his feet wet, he will be more poised for the future presidency than he is now.

Comment: I can understand your underlying tone as to saying that Obama is inexperienced, however I have referred you to checking the facts and Obama's credentials. If after speaking with you on these facts, you are still posting comments based on emotions, then it will become even more apparent that there is a another issue as to why you are opposing Obama. Are you afraid of having someone of African descendancy running this country.? These are issues you have to deal with. I would think that it is a "color" issue with you and not a "political" issue. You would rather crossover and submit to "Gustapo type regime" than to humble yourself to someone who is bringing about REAL and POSITIVE change for WE the people. Again, that is a personal issue that YOU need to resolve.

IObama has more experience in public office, but I think that it's not just about who is ready (which I think Obama is), but about who is right and about character. Obama has the right stuff. Period. Hillary knows all about being a minority as she is a women trying to break the glass ceiling. As for Senator Obama, he plays his race & religion depending upon whichever way the wind is blowing.. Today, he's black, tomorrow's he's white, yesterday he's Muslim, today's he's Christian and now he's trying to pretend he's a minority.... Don't be fooled. He's groveling for your vote however he's claiming that it's your fault that his people don't have jobs. He won't admit that they've been living off the fat of this land and want to continue to do. One of his only proposals is only more affirmative action and reparation for his people. You'll be still picking fruit and landscaping if he gets elected. He's just a sham. Wake up.

Now he's trying to take votes from Senator Clinton who has been an ardent supporter of the Latino/Hispanic Vote. This guy cant' stoop too low for me.

If you listen to Senator Obama, you will discover that he clearly states that the black folks should not blame any group for the lack of a job. He makes the case that these persons did not have jobs before you got here. He thinks more training and more jobs should be created so everyone could have better opportunities. So DO NOT BE MISLED. Get the facts.

Which issues would you be speaking about? I thought Hussein had them all covered with his doctrine of CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, vote for me, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE. Maybe we should all vote the way he does. Present, Present, Present, Present, Present.

Where were you when his brothers attacked us. Where will you be when they bring jihad in our streets? Probably watching YouTube, right?

Not hatred but concern. Ya'll come off as a bunch of ego driven euro-trash wannabees. Obama has DEFINATE ties to the muslim agenda. He is an Islamic Sympathizer at best. He wants to throw away hard fought victories in Iraq and leave the citizens who are just getting a real taste of freedom, to a slaughter, he wants to further destabilize nuclear Pakistan, he wants to reduce Western influence in the region, and he says he will negitiate with terrorist heads of state. Sounds like Bin Laden to me.

AlexD. Does this mean you can relate to a man just because of his color? I worked in a school of 50% population of people of color. Plenty of whites, blacks, and the mix of others taught me that they really learned that they had more in common based on their various financial status and neighborhood location. The poor whites and poor blacks shared language, jokes, and experiences far different than their co-color but richer brothers and sisters. The richer black girls always referred to the street n.....We worked a lot at tolerance in that school and it was not just color based. I'm a man but for age, political interests, experience and beliefs I have a lot more in common with Hillary than with Obama. I've been to Kenya, I have Kenyan friends. But, none of that brings me closer to or more a fan of Obama. I am frightened by his poor understanding of the world and the issues we face....that are much greater than he seems to recognize. GO HILLARY!

Two families have been in the Whitehouse since 1980. Bush Sr. as Vice President then President, (12 years) Bill Clinton as President (8 years), then Bush Jr. as President (8 years). I do not want another Clinton in the Whitehouse for 8 years. Forty years of two families in the Whitehouse? We fought a revolutionary war 200+ years ago to get away from political dynasties.

      • Posted By: Greenie @ 02/15/2008 12:14:34 AM

The difference between the Clinton regime and the Bush regime? Clinton's face is not posted on a foreign wall as America's greatest failure. It did take a Clinton to clean up after the first Bush and it will take a Clinton to clean up after the second Bush. Obama will be busy trying to really learn politics his first years in office. We need resolution now not later. I am the face of the working poor. I cannot afford healthcare. I cannot wait for Obama's training session. My sister need to help to save her home. That's my reality. Hillary is willing to work on day one and tackle the issues. She has the support needed to follow through.

        • Posted By: Dr.Lindsey @ 02/15/2008 2:07:25 AM

Obama isn't trying to learn Politics. Obama knows more about politics than some of the most seasoned politicians. His life has been a study of politics. His job has been a study of politics. Obama hasn't just haphazardly awakened one morning and said, "hey I think I'll be the president of the United States so I can learn how to the President of the United States. He is insightful, not voting for a war that has left us all extremely vulnerable, and if that isn't insightful then I don't know what is. In his own words, Obama states, Ten months ago, I stood on the steps of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, and began an unlikely journey to change America.

I did not run for the presidency to fulfill some long-held ambition or because I believed it was somehow owed to me. I chose to run in this election - at this moment - because of what Dr. King called "the fierce urgency of now." Because we are at a defining moment in our history. Our nation is at war. Our planet is in peril. Our health care system is broken, our economy is out of balance, our education system fails too many of our children, and our retirement system is in tatters.

At this defining moment, we cannot wait any longer for universal health care. We cannot wait to fix our schools. We cannot wait for good jobs, and living wages, and pensions we can count on. We cannot wait to halt global warming, and we cannot wait to end this war in Iraq.

I chose to run because I believed that the size of these challenges had outgrown the capacity of our broken and divided politics to solve them; because I believed that Americans of every political stripe were hungry for a new kind of politics, a politics that focused not just on how to win but why we should, a politics that focused on those values and ideals that we held in common as Americans; a politics that favored common sense over ideology, straight talk over spin.

Most of all, I believed in the power of the American people to be the real agents of change in this country - because we are not as divided as our politics suggests; because we are a decent, generous people willing to work hard and sacrifice for future generations; and I was certain that if we could just mobilize our voices to challenge the special interests that dominate Washington and challenge ourselves to reach for something better, there was no problem we couldn't solve - no destiny we couldn't fulfill.
DOES THIS SOUND TO YOU LIKE A PERSON WHO IS DRIVEN BY AN EGO THAT CAN'T WAIT TO GET ON A BIKE WITH TRAINING WHEELS? NO, BECAUSE HE HAS REAL PLANS. HE HAS MADE SOLID PLANS BEFORE IN HIS POLITICAL CAREER, FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THOSE PLANS, AND EXPERIENCED THE SUCCESS OF HAVING DONE SO-RESEARCH IT FOR YOURSELF.

          • Posted By: Jrmapu @ 02/15/2008 9:18:35 AM

I beg to differ on the issue of healthcare. We as a nation have been paying more than OUR fair share of people's medical. Universal healthcare is a solution. May not be the best but its a start that can be revised under Hillary's tutelage. If you are a real doctor than you would not know about the real issues of helathcare billing. Currently your staff are the ones to do your billing. They negotiate with the HMO/PPO whatever and make sure your practice get the payment you require to continue your practice. I work with government medical programs and I find that the ones whom really need the benefits, are our seniors. They are the ones whom have been paying and made this country what it is. How do we repay them, by not taking care of thier health needs. Some seniors have to choose whether to purchase thier medicine or food. Our country needs to have a healthcare overhaul. Obama will have a hard time in his first years in the White House. Just like a quarterback, If he doesn't play ball he will see the grass more and more. Voting present is not going to solve or make the issues go away. This is a true test of leadership. I'm not willing to take that chance to wait for him to learn the ropes.
As for Hillary's ego? If she were male none of the people in the US would have a problem. I believe that it will take a Clinton to clean up the second Bush mess up. And with lessons learned from the past, she can do it.

            • Posted By: Dr.Lindsey @ 02/16/2008 2:11:55 AM

Clinton is not 'promising' to overhaul the healthcare system and she is certainly not going to REVAMP the healthcare system. The only thing that Clinton is promising is to FORCE those who do not have healthcare under a supervised controlled government healthcare initiative in which she will force all immigrants and all employees, all business owners and all self employed to have a mandated health insurance program or be heavily punished through fines, such as when driving an automobile and being pulled over and fined for not having your car insurance, AND with this TAX (BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT IS) she will FORCE everyone to carry a chip-holding insurance card with a GPS system to WITH a government tracking device card, so that if you are pulled over by a police man and you did not have your health insurance card you would be fined for not having this insurance. Clinton "will use the heavy hand of government", her quote, to enforce the citizens to this "tax program" called "UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE". PEOPLE WILL BE FINED, WAGES GARNISHED. WHICH COULD MEAN, $150-$200 COMING OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK. THIS IS THE GREATEST TRICKERY OF ALL TIME. READ, RESEARCH, AND VOTE OBAMA.

              • Posted By: Jrmapu @ 02/16/2008 1:49:21 PM

If I'm not mistaken, isn't TAXING about democracy? Besides, whats wrong with requiring businesses to provide healthcare to thier employees? I don't believe in the rhetoric you are trying to push. That GPS comment does not scare me. Like I wrote above I work with government programs dealing with healthcare. Trust me, what scares me is if there is an overhaul and people do get universal healthcare, there will be no need for me. I have a job because people do not have health coverage. Unless you work in the field of government health insurance, you really have no clue. I don't need to read or learn your rhetoric, I live it.

        • Posted By: Dr.Lindsey @ 02/15/2008 2:16:27 AM

Comment: Hillary Clinton has an obsessive personality that can get real out of hand. She is a power-driven, angry woman who is disguising herself, as some caring, nurturing, and saintly 'liberated woman'. She uses the vehicle of 'Universal Health care' , which sounds good, but when you read further into what she is REALLY attempting to do, you will see the fascist attitude that is evolving from this vehicle called 'Universal Health Care' that she is continually touting about as if it is the 'savior of this country'. Hillary could end up being worse than Bush ever was, because of the clever way in which the Clinton machine can charm the brains right out of people's heads, so much so, that people won't even READ and do their own RESEARCH to see what is really being revealed from Hillary's lips. Times columnist Andres writes. He adds that, "despite her reassuring rhetoric" that her health care proposal is not a "government takeover" and contains no "new bureaucracy," Clinton proposes to "use the heavy hand of government" to require all residents to obtain health insurance. Her "near-religious zeal to force universal coverage strikes some as odd," Andres writes, adding, "Why compel someone to buy something he or she can't afford?" According to Andres, the "financial penalties for those who fail to purchase insurance ... stirs significant opposition," and Clinton "opened a political can of worms" when she said that she might seek to garnish the wages of residents who can afford health insurance but do not obtain coverage. "Improving health care is a salient bread-and-butter election issue this year," Andres writes, adding, "Compelling everyone to buy a product, whether he wants it or not ... sounds more like a mandate for defeat than a promise of political success" (Andres, Washington Times, 2/14)

No one is naive. Everyone knows negative things come out in campaigns--true or not. Ads and Rumors came out against Bush ( He was a drunk, did drugs, Laura killed someone with her car, infidelity). He still won. Hillary would be more of a target because she has more baggage and more people dislike her than they do Obama. How many Independents would she get versus Obama? My family's full of Independents and no none of us will vote for her.

Hillary has the guts and the brains to go after what is right. She refuses to take NO for an answer. She has fought for women's rights as well as the rights of anyone unfortunate in different situations. She takes a stand and willing to defend it to the end. She does not vote present or not take a position. She tells it like it is and will give all she has. Even her universal healthcare was defeated but she still stood by what she believes. She is not a quiter. Obama needs a few more years to prepare for the future. He is not ready yet. I see a "read my lips" all over again. I am a democrat but will easily go to the republicans to keep the scales of justice balanced. Hillary is the only democrat I trust to lead and be strong enough to stand up against her own peers for what is right. .

    Continued....Obama states,

"And what I learned in the process is that it often takes more than academic failure for kids to give up on their education. There are usually other issues involved. Maybe it's a teen pregnancy or the demands of a job. Or maybe it's an immigration raid that snatches a child's parents away so they've got no one at home to offer them guidance and support. Or maybe it's a sense that certain students aren't expected to succeed so after a point, they just stop trying. We can't let this continue. We teach our children that in America, if you dream big and work hard, you will thrive. We have to keep that promise.

So if we're serious about addressing the problems in our urban schools, we're going to have to lift expectations and restore a sense of hope in our communities. It's time to stand and deliver for America's urban poor.

A few months ago, I outlined my plan to fight poverty in our nation's cities. It's a plan that takes a comprehensive approach, addressing poverty by addressing its root causes in the community. We'll invest in programs that offer everything from counseling for new mothers to afterschool programs to free medical services, and job counseling for parents.

And we'll create good paying jobs here at home, and invest in innovative transitional job programs so we can get the unemployed working again. It's also time we did something to bring businesses back to our inner-cities. A long time ago, we created a World Bank to spur economic development in some of the world's poorest regions. Well if we can have a World Bank than we can have an urban bank right here in America. And when I'm President we will.

So we know what we have to do. We know how to solve these problems. What we're lacking is leadership that can get it done. Leadership that can unite people of every race and religion and political party to make sure that in this country - of all countries - a life of hope and opportunity is possible for anyone who's willing to reach for it. That's the America we believe in. That's the America that led my father to come here from Kenya many years ago. And that's the America that I'm running for President to help bring about."

    continued...Obama states,
The other week, Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed the DREAM Act for the second time. That was wrong. Instead of driving thousands of children who were on the right path into the shadows, we need to give those who play by the rules the opportunity to succeed. That's why I helped pass the DREAM Act when I was a state Senator in Illinois. That's why I'm fighting for it in the U.S. Senate. And that's why I'll make it the law of the land when I'm President. And while we're at it, let's pass comprehensive immigration reform, because until we do, we won't be able to focus on the other challenges facing the Latino community.

But in addition to these comprehensive reforms, we also have to take targeted steps to improve graduation rates. That means supporting college outreach programs like GEAR UP and TRIO so more students can see that a college education isn't just a faraway dream, but something they can attain. And it also means intervening much earlier in a child's education - because the downward spiral that leads a high school student to drop out often begins in elementary and middle school.

That's why I've proposed a STEP UP plan to expand summer learning opportunities through partnerships between schools and community organizations. And that's why next week, I'll be introducing a bill in the Senate that invests in proven strategies to support middle school students and that awards grants to states and districts that are improving graduation rates.

But we can't just work through the schools. We need an all-hands-on-deck approach. We need to bring together state and district leaders, foundations, entrepreneurs, and community organizations so we can solve this problem together. And that's what I'll do as President.

Now, I didn't just discover these issues on the campaign trail. I've been working with the Latino community to address these issues for over two decades. As some of you may know, I got my start in public service after college when I moved to Chicago to be a community organizer on the South Side. And one of the things I did was build a coalition between Black and Latino leaders to help set up afterschool programs. Because we knew that if we could keep kids off the streets and in school, we could improve graduation rates. And I also fought to get state funding for a dropout prevention program that's still in operation today.

Speaker: Senator Barack H. Obama Jr. (IL)
Title: Remarks for Senator Barack Obama
    Date: 10/20/2007
    Location: Los Angeles, CA
    Speech

    Remarks for Senator Barack Obama

    Garfield High School

    Los Angeles, California

    October 20, 2007

The other day, I was reading the paper and came across an article about failing schools here in Los Angeles. The article told the story of Martha Sanchez, a mother of three, who's frustrated with L.A.'s schools. She said that when her son Gonzalo started falling behind in the seventh grade, he never got the support he needed. When she called the school to complain, nothing changed.

"Maybe the system is not designed for people like us," she said.

Not designed for people like us.

It saddens us to hear her say that. And yet, we all know why she would feel that way. Because from East L.A. to West Chicago to the South Bronx, students like Gonzalo have been getting left behind for a long time now. We see it in schools where teachers don't have the resources they need, where the classrooms are crumbling or overcrowded, or where phone calls from concerned parents are met with silence on the other end.

And our neglect of these students is being reflected in a rising dropout rate. I don't have to tell you how serious this problem is. In this school district, the dropout rate is 25 percent, and even higher for Latinos. This points to a larger trend. Because Latinos are dropping out of school more than any other group of Americans.

We all know what the consequences are. Without a high school diploma, it's harder to get a job - and if you do find a job, it's less likely it will pay well. The average salary for a high school dropout is just $25,000 a year. And dropouts are also less likely to have health care, aggravating a problem that's already severe among Latinos.

But a high dropout rate is not simply a Hispanic problem - it's an American problem. The Latino community is the fastest growing in the country and plays a huge role in our economy. So unless we make sure Latino students stay in school and get the skills they need to meet the challenges of the global economy, our workforce is simply not going to be as competitive in the world. It's that simple...continued in next comment
