Also, I live in a state where new teachers coming here, cannot afford to buy a home on their salary. Police & firemen are having the same difficulty. Government has been trying to pass laws to help with this so we can get quality teachers in the state. The cost of living is extremely high for the middle class. The lower class with the least money cannot afford a new car & thus have to buy used & then taken advantage of by $60.00 to $75.00 an hour for repair of another's cast off. Public transportation is sparse and does not meet everyone's needs. This is a Republican controlled state. "The rich get rich & the poor get poorer, in the meantime, in between time, ain't we got fun!" A song from the generation of the aftermath of the great depression. No I was not from that generation, just a child of those whom were. So whom are you & what do you actually know by experience?

I and many other taxpayers would love to be "forced" to buy insurance at lower rates according to our income. Hillary's plan is the best.

    • Posted By: OWL1117 @ 02/16/2008 1:52:12 PM

Being forced to do things by our government, only profits big business. Example; Mandate, all must have auto insurance. I buy the insurance because it is the law, but I will never recieve money from it. Mandate, All must pay taxes. I pay the tax, but have no say at what it is spent on.
So, for our government to mandate anything, I believe it is rarely in the best interest for citizens.
With mandates we are no longer in charge of our rights to choose anything.

My "lines" come from me. Is that all you can say about them? I am an independent as I don't want any party to say or influence me how to vote.My observations come from an independent mind and history. I have lived long enough to have a history to look back on. In my youth I enjoyed a much better world. No homeless. affordable anything, reasonable cost on any healthcare issue including dentistry. You could even afford to go to a hospital. People saved money and then bought a home. Anyone could go to college. Right out of school I could afford to live on my own. I have witnessed the gradual changes of these things. I saw "buy now & pay later" as the beginning of the american debt & the creation of big business. At first it was affordable, but it caused the commen sense of people to erode and the beginning of the "I want it now era." That sparked the "keeping up with the Joneses" times. So you see, it is not what a politician says that influences my thinking. Merely seeing what needs to be done to correct the problem. To get things back to an even keel.

If the plan is not universal, then people who go to the emergency room go at the cost of those who are insured . Thats why John Edwards plan was simiilar to Hillary's . If you leave the window open a crack, NOTHING will change.

    • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/15/2008 10:22:11 AM

Then why have Universal Healthcare if you can just go to the emergency room? Because you can't. Hospitals are catching on to this. Some have any refused services. I'm not sure if this is legal or not, but they can't spend all their resources on everyone that comes without insurance only to turn the ones with it away. They have bills to pay too. I'm not stumping against universal healthcare, but people should still have a choice whether to enroll in it.

      • Posted By: SaveThe MiddleClass @ 02/15/2008 2:51:28 PM

Under Hillary;s plan if you are happy with your medical insurance you dont change anything

        • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/15/2008 5:36:45 PM

This is true under Obama's plan as well. The major difference is that she forces you to get it if you don't have any. This will cause a lot of stink; Americans like their freedom--and rightfully so.

            Time for Change... lol...lol...lol
It's all the same people that have been in politics pretty much all their lives and in Washinton D.C. a good part of that... they have been in government all these years and NOW they are gonna change ???
            Yeah right..

      • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/15/2008 10:24:13 AM

That should read some have even refused services.

        • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/15/2008 12:03:57 PM

If they did and actually there was an emergency and damage (proven) the ER is sitting duck for law suit. Hey, we have excess of lawyers and the system is working that way.

      • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/15/2008 11:45:17 AM

As per law The ERs are supposed to do triage. Then depending on the seriousness they can make you wait for hours and can send home with only minimal treatment. This is the way it should be done when people try to bottle neck the one emergency system available for the whole community. The only way out will be to arrange basic services for everybody. But not through todays HMO Behemoths who are now acting as middle men for our and govt money. I hope Hillary will be able to do it. I will be disappointed otherwise. No matter what, Iraq problem will remain one way or other as long as there is American presence in the region, which we cannot avoid for several reasons.

Who is John E endorsing? how about Gore. I am sure all of them have something against Obama and Clinton. Old grudges to Clinton and new ones to Kerry and the person kerry endorsed.

Hillary Clinton is the only candidate that has a Universal Health Care Plan. She is the only logical choice for the next President of the United States. She is experienced and knows how to get things done. Smooth talk and pretty speeches are not going to help anyone or anything. At the end of the day, no words are going to get results, and Hillary Clinton is action. Let's make the right choice, America. We can take our country back!

    • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/16/2008 12:38:06 PM

Wow! She taught you your lines well.

  • Posted By: Dr.Lindsey @ 02/16/2008 2:39:05 AM

Comment: Comment: Clinton is not 'promising' to overhaul the healthcare system and she is certainly not going to REVAMP the healthcare system. The only thing that Clinton is promising is to FORCE those who do not have healthcare under a supervised controlled government healthcare initiative in which she will force all immigrants, all employees, all business owners and all self employed to have a mandated health insurance program or be heavily punished through fines, such as when driving an automobile and being pulled over and fined for not having your car insurance, AND with this TAX (BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT IS) she will FORCE everyone to carry a chip-holding insurance card with a GPS system to which besides having all of your medical records, will a government tracking device card, so that if you are pulled over by a police man and you did not have your health insurance card you would be fined for not having this insurance. Clinton "will use the heavy hand of government", her quote, to enforce the citizens to this "tax program" called "UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE". PEOPLE WILL BE FINED, WAGES GARNISHED. WHICH COULD MEAN, $150-$200 COMING OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK. THIS IS THE GREATEST TRICKERY OF ALL TIME. READ, RESEARCH, AND VOTE OBAMA.

The problem with this country is greed and corruption. Republicans want to privatize everything so that they can give it to corporations . The goal of a corporation is to make a profit. It is not to HELP you. Health insurance companies routinely make decisions , Do we permit an operation or save $25 Grand. Thats why you have to stand on your head for heatlh care . Its greed, and these corporations are not giving up thier money without a fight. So the question is do we want a President that makes us "feel good" or do we want a President who will fight for us ?
    I want the fighter , I want Hillary ! .

Greed and corruption--you got that right! Do you know why her attempts failed before? Ask her at a rally does she take money from lobbyists.

In TV ads and mailers against Hillary, Obama has used a version of the Insurance industry's 1994 "Harry and Louise" ads to attack universal health care! We would expect this from Republicans - not a supposed Democrat. Obama's plan OMITS 15M of us - and that's even BEFORE he begins his Kumbaya meetings with the Insurance industry. Hillary's plan is the best - because she will fight for health care for ALL.

    • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/16/2008 12:27:23 PM

She said this back in the 90's.

  • Posted By: MChieco @ 02/16/2008 10:04:49 AM

Hillary's plan is superior , thats why John Edwards had a similar plan .
Once you start leaving people out, its the same old, same old. This picture of garnishing wages is a scare tactic from the insurance companies that want you to fall in line. Hillary will get this done. This is her passion.

    • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/16/2008 12:24:50 PM

How else do think she's going to FORCE people to get?

  • Posted By: aintwegotfun @ 02/16/2008 10:39:00 AM

A very real scenario. A lower income person or family does not have health care. They cannot afford the premiums or prefer to use that little extra they receive for other things. Ahhh, but one day one or both have an emergency. One becomes desperately ill or is in a life threatening accident and required to go to the hopital. Now there is no income from one or both adults. They also do not go to doctors on any regular basis and so do not have a medical history and one comes down with cancer in an advanced state. They are most likely to perish from their illness as they are not covered by the extreme cost of the treatment they would need to save their lives. This affects both the adults & the children. Much like the children in Africa whose parents have aids. Of course our really horrible Bill Clinton is working to help those people. I sthis really happening in our country? Of course it is! Every day. This rhetoric about not making it mandatory, although affordable, is precisely why we do not have health care for everyone and why there is so many tragic medical stories in our very wealthy nation. To me this is a crime against our own people.

    • Posted By: Time for Change @ 02/16/2008 12:23:07 PM

Let's make buying a home mandatory only then can we end homelessness. The reason people do not have health insurance is because their wages are not high enough to afford. If you take money from people who can not afford it, it only creates problems in other areas of their lives----like not being able to pay rent or eat. There are already government clinics for those with Aids. Not everyone get deadly illnesses. In Micheal Moore's movie "SICKO" a child in that movie died because her single mother could not afford the healthcare bills. If Clinton helped millions of children get insurance, why did this child die? This movie also stated she took money from the insurance companies. You notice she never denied it.

This is the way it is in the USA. Most of our wealth goes to a very few people, That is the Republican way. These people for the most part, enjoy the American dream. They can invest in jobs overseas because they make a better profit off the wages of slavery & don't pay taxes on those profits. They depend on the poor to provide them with the services they enjoy in the USA. Fine restauants, State of the Art healthcare. Luxury automobiles, private jets. Their freedom as our men & women go to war. The trickle down economy of the
Republicans keeps us in this situation. The health care & pharmacutical industry is part of the picture. Basically it is a form of slavery. With so many of us available, what does it matter if some die? Sounds like the era from pre civil war days. Yes there was a strong middle class during the Clinton presidency, but under Bush that has been eroded. Even the middle class with insurance does not have access to the best care the health care industry can provide. At present, insurance companies can deny coverage to pre existing conditions. No consequence for the wealthy, they could pay for it themselves. Some weathy have worked to accumulate their wealth, but some just merely inherit it, but do not pay taxes on it. Sound like Czarist Russia to me. Hillary tried to get a universal health care deal for us but had to buck the insurqnce and health care industry whom frightened people and made the suspicious of this proposal. They did a good job of that and that was when it was not as bad as it is today . A a result the crisis has become far worse then it was then. She learned her lesson, she has to work with the industry to get it done. Now if all are insured, then the industry will not lose profits because the healthy will be included to make up for the expense of the ill. Her plan says for the very poor, their insurance coverage will be subsidized. Do you not see that medical bills have become so much worse because we did not get universal health care a long time ago? We even pay the difference for what we pay for our prescriptions to make it more affordable for the rest of the world to get the same medicine cheaper.

Being forced to pay for health insurance is not the answer. We cannot let government control our lives like that. We would have no choice between buying food paying bills and paying for insurance. If our wages were garnished to pay insurance we in all possibility could lose our jobs. The Insurance lobbiest control more of our government then we the people. If the prices of insurance were fair then more people could
afford insurance. Does anyone ever notice how when you get you have work done for your health and your insurance does not cover all of it,then we are charged full price for the remaing balance? I ask my insurance company about this and they said that they have a contract with the medical field and therefore pay what they the insurance company allow for the procedure. Is thie fair? Hell no! The insurance companies need to be forced to lower prices not the people being forced to buy the insurance.

Some issues have not been raised in this forum. As an example I was called into a meeting at my previous employer and was asked to take my wife off the company coverage. My wife is in very bad health and requires hospitalization frequently. They said it was strictly my choice this was illegal. I told them I wanted to continue my wife's coverage, 3 months later I lost my job because of my refusal to take her off coverage.

  • Posted By: Alexee51 @ 02/16/2008 8:09:13 AM

As one of the millions who are uninsured, I find it appalling that ANYONE in office would mandate health care. While it isn't a "choice" to end up owing a hospital thousands of dollars for injuries, or delaying going to the doctor until you're so sick you need extensive care, what the candidates and the people who support this kind of mandate don't understand is that your dealing with a large segment of the American population who live in a "cash" society. The live from one paycheck to the next ekeing by as best they can. And now someone's going to come along and mandate that they take the money they'd normally use to put food on the table, and pay a health care premium? I believe this comes under that old adage......you can't know a man until you've walked amile in his shoes.

  • Posted By: celmasri41 @ 02/16/2008 3:24:43 AM

Where in the world does it say that Hillary's health plan will force everyone to buy it or they will be heavily fined and such? I think this is a load of crud; I know I heard Obama say something like this at one time. The problem is, it is wrong! Hillary failed the last time because of this same type of bull that folks spew out there so that they can confuse the issue. Anyone supporting Obama is gonna be very disappointed; ask Bush's supporters, those that are left anyways. This is one of the many reasons why I will vote for Hillary; I want healthcare just like I have car insurance. If you do not have it, then you should get a ticket for raising the costs for everyone else.

  • Posted By: BackToTheConstitution @ 02/15/2008 11:27:42 PM

Every vote for Hillary is a vote toward communism. The Government should provide the infra-structure, not mandate my health, meal, and exercise choices.

    • Posted By: lasergirl84106 @ 02/16/2008 1:38:58 AM

But the government is not a communistic government if it mandates seatbelt use, mandatory education, taxes that pay for libraries, police, fire departments, parks, national forests, roads, highways, museums, drivers licenses, etc? The government would not have to pay for, or subsidize health care coverage if the profit driven health care system were overhauled.

      • Posted By: BackToTheConstitution @ 02/16/2008 8:00:11 AM

Just to help you out, education, libraries, police & fire departments, parks, national forests, roads, highways, museums, along with defending our nation, are core areas of the Infra-struture.Drivers licenses.are a state issue. Seat belt laws (as far as I can tell, protect the driver not the general public,ie unless you can explain how MY smashing MY face into MY windshield will help America, then it should not be a LAW. It is already a statement of stupidity that you have to make a law to protect children in vehicles, even though I can live with that, given the amount of ignorance infiltrating this country.Next topic: If the government is not springing for the health care, and those of us who purchase our own are going to "save $2300-Hillary/$2500-Obama" then the insyrance companies must be getting very philanthropical to cut my rates and provide coverage for all of those who don' t it now. Who do really think is going to make up the difference.I could see the democrats saving us the $2300-$2500 per year in premiums, then passing a health care tax on me of $4300-$5000 to pay for their plans, while looking YOU in the eye and saying "sorry I really thought it would work. GET REAL

For those of you that are using the mandatory auto insurance argument, we are only required to have "liability" coverage not full coverage. The only time it is required to have comprehensive coverage is when the car is still on lien and that is to cover the bank's interests, not to make sure you still have a vehicle to get you back and forth. If an uninsured driver loses control on an ice slick road and hits a tree, your rates do not increase. So in that regard, it's apples to oranges.

I know that some people would choose to keep their extra $$ and not buy into health insurance plans, especially young, healthy people who think they are indestructible; but I believe the vast majority of the currently uninsured would choose to purchase it. I agree with requiring children be covered, I'd even be willing to add pregnant women into that. However, I do not agree with forcing full grown adults to buy into coverage if they want to be so stupid as to not do so. We don't fine individuals for not using birth control and having kids they cannot afford, or for not taking the flu shot and getting sick!

This is how I see it," It is too difficult of a feat to; mandate healthcare providers to provide affordable life time healthcare for all Americans, so HRC is not even going to try. Instead she is just going to mandate that all American citizen must purchase healthcare, but don't worry it will be affordable." I would rather have Sen. Obama at least try to get me affordable healthcare and then fail to do so, then have HRC force me to buy healthcare and then punishes me when I say no.

On the first day... that (if) Sen. Hillary Clinton becomes president, I will buy stock in the insurance company that has contributed the most money to her campaign. Because they are the only people that will benefit to Sen. Clinton's lack of ingenuity.
