McCain made romney his ***
Not exactly. But Mitt Romney put personal animosity toward John McCain aside for the good of the party, aides say.
McCain made romney his ***
Does any of you know why Huckabee is still in the race?!
Because at McCain's age, he could pass away, and Romney therefore endorsed McCain so that, in the event of McCain's passing, Romney would still have more delegates than Huckabee and become the presumptive nominee. I.e., the endorsement was intended to force Huckabee out of the race.
No chance for Romney to become McCain's running mate. McCain knows enough people in the senate that he worked with for years who would be more reliable as running mate.
Okay, okay. DN you made your point in the first sentence. Most of us agree that religion has no place in this discussion. People have their freedom of speech, they are wrong if they use it to put down another's religion. My LDS friends believe in Jesus Christ and are good people. My Baptist friends believe in Jesus Christ and are good people. My Jewish friends believe in God and are good people. My Muslim and Hindu friends are good people.
From an objective standpoint (relatively speaking) Romney may have been the brightest of the candidates from either party. He was pretty successful as Governor, ran a good Olympics, and is, by all accounts, an adroit businessman. That said, he is not in the race now.
He did the right--and honorable thing--by putting aside differences and hurt feelings and endorsing McCain. McCain is the best person to get us to an optimal solution in Iraq--let's face it, too many people have suffered for there to be a happy ending. Let's hope he learns to play nice with the other kids.
I cannot imagine either Hilary or Obama as C-in-C of the Armed Forces--think Carter years (yikes!).
Obama-Hilary (if the super delegates let the voice of the people stand) will never be a ticket. They will bloody each other too badly over ties to Obama's supposed ties to organized crime and Hilary's real FBI files, etc.
If McCain played a musical instrument, he and Huckabee could have a jam session in the Oval Office. He doesn't, so the ticket probably won't happen. JC Watts would be an intriguing option.
Will be a good race either way. If you don't vote, don't complain about the outcome!
Okay, let's calm down. DNViger, your point is well taken--no room for religious bigotry. You made your point in the first sentence. Most of us agree that Mitt converted about as many of his constituents to the LDS Church as Leiberman has to Judaism or Kennedy to Catholicism. Religion should have no part of the discussion. Let's keep focus on the issues and ability to lead the country.
From an objective standpoint, Mitt may have been the brightest of all of the candidates from either party and seems to have done well for his constituents in MA and a fine job running the Olympics. He is not in the race anymore.
He did show a lot of class by setting aside differences and hurt feelings to support the obvious front runner. McCain will see us through the Iraq conflict, which probably does not have a happy ending--no matter how it ends. Hopefully he can play nice in the sandbox with the other kids.
I cannot see either Hilary or Obama as C-in-C of the Armed Forces--think Carter years here.
Will be interesting to see the tickets. Clinton-Obama (or vice versa if the public vote beats the super delegates) will ever happen--they are going to bloody each other good.
If McCain played a musical instrument he might pick Huckabee--but since he doesn't, probably not. JC Watts would be an intriguing choice.
Should be a good race. If you do not vote, you cannot complain about the outcome!
As Ronald Reagan used to say, "There you go again!" making religion relevant to a right for someone to be our President, and another snide swipe at Joseph Smith, revealing your's and Hucklephoney's religious bigotry that killed and raped a lot of innocent Mormons back in the early days. To call Romney sinister is another affront that shows ignorance, and probably missing teeth and moonshine mills on the side! If Romney had to lay people off, it was to make his companies more profitable. Is that a sin, a sinister characteristic. Would you prefer the Bolshevic and Communist system of full employment? You must be a closet Obama supporter! Romney is a wonderful man and person whom if you knew you would also agree. He shut down his whole company to send all his execs to NYC to find the missing daughter of an employee who when they found her was a few hours from certain death. Was that a sinister act, too? He wasn't running for anything then!
Mitt and John have been discussing the deal for weeks, and agreed it within the last two. Mitt drops out, then endorses John, then John gets on the ticket as his running mate to secure the conservative and faithful. This will allow John to focus on the center. The bombshell: John will only take one term, finish Iraq, get Bin Laden, and then step aside for Mitt in '12. It will work even though it will become public. They're smart leaders, and smart leaders are what we need.
McCain and Mitt were never smart leaders. They are CONMEN and they have exposed themselves. Mitt and Mac are going down the drain in general election. they might think they have swindled the GOP and beaten the true conservatives, but they were already beaten black and blue in the GOP bases, the RED states.
just wait till obama and clinton get done they will be rioting in the streets, and the democrats will once again show why they cant win,,
Forrest Gump says, "Stupid is as stupid does".... Stop being stupid.
Speculators agree with you and I actually hope this is what happens.
As a Mormon and a Republican let me just say how disillusioned I am now with the party. It is obvious as the election played out that bigotry is still rampant. Also, too Mr. Huckabee???s comments made on being the ???Christian??? candidate I find this insulting and very un-Christian. My understanding of a ???Christian??? is someone that is trying to live there life by following Christ???s example. Therefore, in many ways I would argue that many Evangelical Christians demonstration of bigotry is very un-Christian.
Although I respect you right to express your opinion I find you comment to be completely out of place and inappropriate for this veneu and the subject of this article. I also don't know any self respecting member of the LDS c hurch that would make a comment like the one you made.
speak for yourself and not the rest of us MrDDoubleD. What part of his comment was out of place? The fact that he spoke how he felt and straight forward? Huckabee did launch a biggotted campaign, where have you been? According to him, you as an LDS member are not christian. Where are your criticisms coming from? It is insulting the way he has attacked our faith
Uh... I did.
Yipes!!! Where are the lions and the arena???
Hi RRKME,
I am a Christian and I despise Huckleburry for launching a bigotted attack on Romney's Faith.
I was very skeptical of Romney at first but after his speech in Utah on faith I began to support him.
I don't think he ever was truly pro-choice. I think he pretended to be pro-choice to get elected in Tax-a Chussets.
Huckle-Berry is a bigotted conceited man whom I can't stand and is the reflection of the sterotype that leftist nutcrackers give about Christians. I'm pretty p*'d off at him. It's not possible for that bigot to earn my vote.
Huckabum gives Christians a bad name.... crusades mean anything?
Come on people... this is politics. ALL the candidates play the game, including Pastor Huckabee. Let's hold the same standard for all... not just those who we favor.
I find it hillarious to hear from the good majority of ant-Mitt folks attacks on his money, hair, or religion. Since when did any of those become a requirement to be elected president? Wow, only if we could hold the same standards for the other candidates.
For those of you whining about his money... he EARNED it! What about McCain and John Kerry (and a majority of politicians)? They either inherited or married into it. Sounds like some jealousy... or, you're a socialist who thinks it shouldn't be Mitt's $$$ and you want to distribute it to those who sit on their cracks all day.
The hair thing... go look in the mirror.
The Mormon thing... get over it. There are a lot of mormons in high places, including Democrat Harry Reid (not meant to be an endorsement). If you don't like mormons or what they believe, don't become one. But to hate Mitt because a minister tells you he's the anti-Christ (http://pastors4huckabeeblog.com/the-biblical-case-against-voting-for-a-mormon-for-president-why-christians-who-support-romney-actualy-violate-scripture/), seems absurd to me. He's running for PRESIDENT, not your PASTOR.
As a Republican party, we need to come together for McCain, like it or not. I like Guiliani and Romney, but that isn't going to happen. And to those still supporting Huck, NEWS FLASH... he isn't going to make it either. Would we really rather have Obama or Billary in the WH than McCain?
if you dont vote then dont ***,,maccain will keep us safe,,,
I earned my house too. Maybe they should watch Dr. Zivago again and see how the communists moved in on the family and said their house was too big for so few people and moved in all the "street people". That is what the Democrats want, unless it is out of their own pockets of course. If you actually work and earn, you have to take care of the lazy butts who want to whine and cry rather than work. I am sick of it and been sick of it ever since I joined the work force (at age 14). The White House would become either the Black House or the Red-Light House with the Democrats. Anyway, you stated your position very good and I agree with it.
It's obvious we Republicans are desperate. We must be very sure we cannot beat either Obama or Clinton.....and let's face it, we can't. The country is sick and tired of this second Vietnam and want to get our soldiers out of there and make the Iraqis manage their own country. They won't do that as long as we are there to hold their hand.
well its the democrats jfk who got us in vietnam that killed 50.000 americans and over a million vietcong.
and we didnt even get attacked like 9 11, at least we havent been attacked since, and its prez bush who did it,,,
you democrats are so two face, if we were to get attacked again you would want our goverment to protect you,, we need a prez who will fight our enemys, and not give in. just like the liberal nuts in cailf.
you dont want our arm forces in your citys, but when the big ouake comes youll beg from them to bring food, water and find the dead just like new orleans,,
Hey madmargie-you definately have the right screen name. You are batty. We are winning this war. With McCain as Commander-In-Chief we will overwhelmingly bring CHANGE!!!(you have to like that) to this region. Hussein Obama is a muslimeducated, indoctrinated, and as far as anyone knows devout muslim sympathizer. You should feel shame. I'll pray for you.
Let's hope and pray that Romney is currying favor with McCain in hopes that he might be his running mate! Romney is a sinister person who caused thousands their jobs when head of Bain Investments. He trashed a lot of peoples' lives. And his Mormon membership would certainly taint any objectivity he has. God help us! A resurrection of the megalomaniac Joseph Smith!!
Those who say that Romney endorsed McCain out of some nefarious motive should be ashamed of themselves. "Judge not, that ye be not judged." I know Romney personally, and have NO DOUBT but that he did what he did solely for the good of America. He could have stayed in the race out of vanity, but he knows that continued in-fighting among Republicans will only help Obama or Clinton in the fall.
Are we so afraid of HILLARY and OBAMA that we're willing to sell-out and side with McCain who is really no better? Is that really for the good of the party? To select a candidate so quickly after everyone bashed him as a liberal and now he's the savior of the GOP? Does he need that much time to prepare for the Democrats? He thinks like them, I would believe he should already know what they stand for. I won't be drinking the McCain Kool-Aid come November.
The winner take all system was skewed in favor of the candidate who could amass pluralities in the early states, even if he wasn't that popular with the majority. Like it or not, this is the system we have. McCain won fair and square, albeit by small margins in many states. So, yes, we have to agree with Romney that McCain, despite his faults, IS vastly better than Hillary or Obama on the war, taxes, life - and the courts.
What are McCain and Romney afraid of? Mike Huckabee that's who. The faux conservative Romney and the faux Republican are both concerned of a candidate who is not in the pocket of the power mongers. Vote Huckabee.
Governor of Arkansas is not great credentials for me. Being out west, we kind of look on the south as inbred retards. We have the search for your dreams mentality out here and search to build our own businesses, etc. ARG!! Why bother, you won't listen anyway.
Nevada, a lot of your comments make sense, but I must object to the "inbred retards" line. The South is a great part of America; no more "inbred" than anywhere else. If it weren't for the South's conservatism, this would have become the United Socialist States of America long ago. Only when the South, the Mountain West and the Midwest UNITE can the country be saved from the liberal elites.
I don't know what Romney and McCain may be afraid of, but I am scared to death of the Huckster. I trust him about as much as I trusted the last instrument-playing, sweet-talking governor of Arkansas. He was content to brand Romney a flip-flopper when the Huckster himself ran to the right on immigration when he realized it was necessary to seek the GOP nomination. He's smarmy, self-righteous, and a total fraud. Re-visit the whole "I'm not going to run this negative ad, but I'm going to show it anyway" song and dance, and then tell me the Huckster's worthy to lead a nation or a "moral" majority.
Every day I find another reason to be glad I made the choice to support Mike Huckabee. Thank you Governor Huckabee for standing by your principles. Thank you for not just handing the nomination over to someone who you do not believe is the best person for the job. Thank you for giving the rest of the nation an opportunity to vote for their president. I am very happy today to know that I chose the right candidate. Keep going sir. You are the best!
I couldn't agree with you more. Mike Huckabee is the only candidate worthy of my vote. I praise God for him. My reason for voting for him has not one thing to do with any other candidate. I chose Mike Huckabee because of his stance on the issues important to this great country. I pray that others who have not gotten the chance to vote for the man who truly represents what they want in a President will have that chance. To declare a winner before the race is over is beyond me. There is no danger in a candidate campaigning until he legitimately lost the bid. The danger lies in disenfranchising those Americans who have not had a chance to vote for the candidate they believe in. Being made to believe that their vote is not as important as the ones already placed is just very sad. I will vote for Mike Huckabee. That is MY choice - like it or not.
You are thanking God and praying..... damn good thing... Huckabee is a putz.
Nevada Redhead. Thanks for that deep insight. You obviously have a real command of the English language. Let me guess, you don't like Huckabee do you? It's a shame because he personally told me that he thinks very highly of you. He really does. Everytime your name comes up, he says that Nevada Redhead's no putz.
Some of Huckabee's supporters did their best to fan bigotry. However, most voters were not swayed by such concerns. in many states Romney won the majority of evangelicals. 110 years ago, Mormons were still being lynched in the South. So don't look at the glass as half empty. Eventually Mormon Christians, evangelicals, Catholics and orthodox Jews will realize that people of faith must unite or lose out to the Left.
It,s a ploy. When the Conventions is hopelessly deadlocked a suitable alternative will be sought. That would be a well rested, Mitt Romney who will become the Republican Nominee forf president. The simple fact is that money rules.
It is a clever ploy. When the convention is deadlocked, say on the tenth vote, or even sooner, there will be explorations for an acceptable alternative, i.e. Mitt Romney. Then McCain would be onor bound to reciprocat. Make no mistake; Romney wiil be the Repulican candidate in 2008.
