Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham, both radio show hosts, have told republicans to vote for Hillary in order to keep the democratic fight alive and to get Hillary to win the democratic nomination because they feel McCain can win against her and not against Obama. This means that it is not the will of the democratic public that is being heard, no one has to vote for McCain anymore so they can cross over and vote for Hillary just to cause problems. Doesn't this tell the Superdelegates that it is Obama that needs to win? Before McCain won, many republicans voted for Obama because they truly wanted him to win, now we are being scammed. Hillary is a joke to them. Why can't the democrats do something to make this obvious to the nominees and to the delegates?? She needs to step down, or we will continue as a divided country. The rebublicans are playing with our lives. And we are letting them!!

I have been voting democrat for 40 years and have never heard of a superdelegate. Since when did the delegates have a choice to go against the public wish? It sounds like this superdelegate thing was placed in the voting cycle so they could be bought off like in buy off from the opposing party in order to place a weak candadate in position to run against the party favorite. If these delegates don't vote the public will I will not be voting for either poarty any more and I believe it will prove its time to move to a different country where the right of the public to ellect their leaders has not been suspended.

If you've been voting 40 years (FORTY YEARS???), you should have known that superdlegates (a term only the Democratic Party uses although the GOP has the same but they don't use that term) has been around since just agter the 1980 presidential election -- due in part to some problems after the 1968 election year. Perhaps a bit more reading is in order...?

This whole idea of delegates and superdelegates smacks of something pathological inherent in the shenanigans of the political electoral process of a banana republic. Its the type of thing that really makes one doubt whether we live in a democracy . And it seems to me that its an affront to all of us who believe in the works of a democratic system of government. Of course I know that we are a Republic, if it weren't so then we would have elected seven years ago a president who would have lead us to a completely different world instead of the disastrous Bush years.
How reversible this bottom feeding will continue depends on what kinds of inroads a democratic administration will have on the current state of affairs. And by that I mean an Obama led government. A Clinton government would still be a return to the old way of doing things and the huge baggage that she carries must not be dumped on the electorate, particularly the young ones that have shown so great an interest for a fresh start in a new administration that will result from these elections.
I for one am convinced that the sooner we can get rid of superdelegates we can return the Democratic Party to something more palatable and representative of a real democratic system.

Obviously you weren't old enough to vote in the 2000 and 2004 elections or you didn't understand what happened. Super Delegates had nothing to do with Bush winning. The decision was made by the Supreme Court.

Good piece, Eleanor. You're right on track. I'm an African American woman in my 40's and professional and educated. Having said this, I've had my share of voting in presidential elections and watching and listening to campaigns and quite honestly, from the beginning, I was nonplussed by Senator Obama. His speeches didn't move me. That's not to say that he is not eloquent, but in comparing him to dead civil rights leaders and former martyred presidents made him less palatable because I couldn't see then, and I still can't see what he stands for. I've watched his voting record as a senator and it differs from what he says in his speeches. I don't get it. And when I see super delegates who happen to also be African American actually switching their votes to him and blaming it on the will of their "constituency", I have to note that this smacks of a double standard, What if Senator Obama had the experience and service with these men and they were White? And what if Senator Clinton were a Black man and they announced that they were switching their votes because their constituency would want them to support the White candidate? Senator Obama can't have it both ways. His "change" message is the same -- only reversed, and he's using emtionalism of youth and skin tone to run a very unusual race to get what he wants. He has no unique skills beyond the gift of gab. If history teaches us anything, it teaches this: we've seen great orations that turned the tide toward an approach to nationalism but was something completely different. We saw voters back a man who wasn't a great speaker a few years ago, but he was charismatic and had an "aw shucks" feel about him. He felt safe. The other man was a bit colorless and he was an intellect and this was shunned. Seven years and wars and economic failure and failed domestic and international policies later, ine man struggles not to go down in history as a total flop, and the other is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. I wonder what those delegates would have done then. Today, they have that decision and since they have history to follow and not emotions of long-winded speeches and the desires of one man to make the history books.

HERE'S yOUR pROOF HALLOW. I AM VERy GLAD yOU ASKED THIS QUESTION.
THIS pROVES THAT OBAMA IS THE REAL DEAL SON.

Obama proved persuasive enough that the bill passed both houses of the legislature, the Senate by an incredible 35 to 0. Then he talked Blagojevich into signing the bill, making Illinois the first state to require such videotaping.

Obama didn't stop there. He played a major role in passing many other bills, including the state's first earned-income tax credit to help the working poor and the first ethics and campaign finance law in 25 years (a law a Post story said made Illinois "one of the best in the nation on campaign finance disclosure"). Obama's commitment to ethics continued in the U.S. Senate, where he co-authored the new lobbying reform law that, among its hard-to-sell provisions, requires lawmakers to disclose the names of lobbyists who "bundle" contributions for them.

Taken together, these accomplishments demonstrate that Obama has what Dillard, the Republican state senator, calls a "unique" ability "to deal with extremely complex issues, to reach across the aisle and to deal with diverse people." In other words, Obama's campaign claim that he can persuade us to rise above what divides us is not just rhetoric.

Avian flu: Obama was one of the first Senators to speak out on avian flu, back in the spring of 2005, when it was a quintessentially wonky issue, not the subject of breathless news reports. There's a list of Democratic efforts on avian flu here; Obama shows up early and often. He has sponsored legislation, including what I think is the first bill dedicated to pandemic flu preparedness. It's a good bill, providing not just for vaccine research and antiviral stockpiles, but for the kinds of state and local planning and preparedness that will be crucial if a pandemic occurs. (I was also very interested to note that it requires the Secretary of HHS to contract with the Institute of Medicine for a study of "the legal, ethical, and social implications of, with respect to pandemic influenza". This is actually very important, and not everyone would have thought of it.)
"We recommend that this administration work with Congress, public health officials, the pharmaceutical industry, foreign governments and international organizations to create a permanent framework for curtailing the spread of future infectious diseases.

There were death penalty abolitionists, some of whom worried that Obama's bill, by preventing the execution of innocents, would deprive them of their best argument. Vigorous opposition came from the police, too many of whom had become accustomed to using muscle to "solve" crimes. And the incoming governor, Rod Blagojevich, announced that he was against it.

THIS IS A pERFECT EXAMpLE OF WHAT OBAMA CAN DO AND HAS ALREADy DONE, BRING DIFFERENT FACTIONS TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE A COMMON GOAL.

"YES WE CAN" T SHIRTS WILL SELL LIKE "HOT CAKES"

BARAK NEEDS A YES WE CAN SLOGAN IN SPANISH.
THEN MAKE T SHIRTS AND OTHER ATTIRE and HAND THEM OUT IN TEXAS AND OHIO.

"YES WE CAN" "YES WE CAN" "YES WE CAN" TEXAS AND OHIO.

IT is TIME TO SEND A MESSAGE AND DELIVER THE KNOCK OUT BLOW.
TAKING YOUR GLOVES OFF EARLY IS NOT ALWAYS THE WISEST DECISION TO MAKE. SOME MIGHT EVEN CALL IT NAIVE.

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 02/20/2008 7:31:54 AM

ONE OF THE MAIN POINTS OBAMA MADE IN LAST NIGHTS SPEECH WAS THAT THE CHALLENGE of implementing change is JUST BEGINNING> THAT CHANGE IS NOT EASY. AND WILL TAKE A UNITED EFFORT from all not just a few.

CAN HILLARY MAKE HER LAST STAND IN TEXAS AND OHIO A SUCCESSFUL ONE.

"OR WILL THIS OBAMA WAVE , POWERED BY A THUNDEROUS MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE, SWALLOW HILLARY AND HER ARMY OF LATINOS" eddiewhere 2008.

OBAMA GAVE A TREMENDOUS SPEECH IN TEXAS LAST NIGHT.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SPEECH WAS WHEN OBAMA MENTIONED THAT SOME LEADERS SAY THAT I CANNOT ENGAGE OUR ENEMIES IN DISCUSSION. TO THEM I SAY YES I CAN.
YES WE CAN. YES WE CAN.

I think the message that Democratic voters is trying to convey to the leadership is team-manship. As a retired school teacher, who taught in an inner city high school in a notoriously dangerous neighborhood in south Los Angeles,I was often drafted into serving as the sponsor or co-sponsor of various organizations and activities. (I served a senior class sponsor 4 times.) I always preferred working as a co-sponsor, teaming up with one or two other colleagues rather than getting all the glory myself. The same must apply to the Democratic party - Clinton and Obama need to start working toward teammanship NOW. They also need to include John Edwards. When we talk about change we can believe in, the change in our concept of leadership is one thing we need to put into effect, with an emphasis on "we" rather than "me". I invite you to consider that concept seriously, Applied both across this nation and across the world, the concept of "we" rather than "me" is the only was we can ensure that this planet will make it to the 22nd century.

Did you attend the same school that Senator Obama attended in Indonesia? Do you know for a fact that he received indoctrination into the Quaran and muslim ideology? According to his own statement, he became a Christian of his own choosing! Are you calling him a liar? Are you insinuating that I'm fool-hardy & just plain stupid? You really shouldn't judge people that you don't know or understand!!! By the way, some new polls have come out for Texas, showing a 7 point difference between your Goddess(Hillary) and Senator Obama and he hasn't even started campaigning there yet!! In answer to your question, if Senator Clinton overtakes Senator Obama in pledged delegates & popular vote, then yes, she should be given the nomination! That would be our democratic process at work...thank you! Could you say the same about Senator Obama or are you just intent upon drinking that "hater-aid" that seems to prevail in all of your posts???

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 02/16/2008 11:40:41 AM

There are no public schools in Indonesia that do not teach muslim anti-western ideology. His former teacher and principle has been interviewed and quoted as how devout and knowledgable "Barry" was. You obviously are blinded by his chant of CHANG, CHANGE, CHANGE... Do you truly believe that the message this country needs to send to the terrorists is..WE SURRENDER..WE ELECTED ON OF YOU OWN...LETS JUST TALK LIKE CIVILIZED PEOPLE...? God Forbid. I'm for giving them their hearts desire-72 Virgins. VOTE McCAIN '08 He will help Allah hand them out.

Come On this thing about the delegates is a blck horse, they have been there for years with the right to vote as they feel, no different than the states that decide to use caucuses instead of allowing everyone the right to vote. Both have been a part of the election process for a long time, if anyone wants to correct this voting process change primarys to the same process as the general everyone gets to vote and everyone votes on the same day. Most of the time several states who have primarys have already been told who their candidate is and that no one cares about their vote. So the fact that some people do not think the superdelegates are fair really is not a valid complaint as a whole lot in an election is not fair.

Let's hear it for Hillary - the one choice dems can make that will put another republican in the White House. If she gets there via superdelegates and thereby destroys the democratic party that's all the better.

Personally, it says seperation of church and state right in the constitution, or are you against that too??? Seriously, who the heck cares. He says he's a christian and so does his pastor..good enough for me. I'm voting for Obama, even if he is a Christian. I'm not that fond of Christians as a rule, I find them far too judgemental and self righteous. But as a good American, I'm willing to put our constitutional requirements for the greater good above my own personal religious preferences, and try to judge a candidate on what I can find out than on a pre-concieved notion based on what I think of a candidates religion.

    Dear HolyRoller,
May The Good Lord Jesus have mercy on your very sad soul and help you learn to walk on this earth with love and compassion as He did. I will remember you in prayer. I am glad you pray several times a day. Maybe eventually, you will become peaceful enough inside your heart to truly discern how the love of Jesus may be expressed for those who do not know Him as you do. There is no further need for me to talk with you. The Lord will help you heal from your hatred in time. I wish you peace, joy and love through Christ Jesus. Goodbye.
    Good bye.

Starbright-Thanks for the prayer, I need all the support I can muster. I'll also pray for you to recieve the gift of the Spirit, that of discernment. It is quite powerful and very handy to have around. Good night and GOD bless. NOBAMA

Well, according to your ideology, we should just destroy everyone who is a practicing Muslim, which I'm not. Your candidate of choice wants to invade Iran & everyplace else where those "radical Muslim terrorist reside! isn't that a recipe for world destruction? Do you honestly believe that everyone should think as you do? Should believe as you do? Should be so filled with hate and anger that it spills into everything that they do?
I opt for something better, something tainted with optimism and hope of a better world for my children and grandchildren. Many of the people who blog on this site are so filled with hatred, racism, and malice that it's hard to fathom that there's any humanity left in some people. Senator Obama is more than his speeches, he's more than the issues that he stands for, he's for us! Unfortunately, some people will never be able to see that, because they are blinded by their own prejudices that have long been held in an almost religious fervor....I'm sad for your blindness and hope that someday you'll be able to see the light-hollyroller!

Since you are for CHANGE. I challenge you to name any US policy that Hussein Obama will change and/or how he would accomplish this CHANGE. And how it would improve the lives of your children or grandchildren. You are caught up in the charisma of a YouTube one hit wonder.

Has not MoveOn.org put an ad before that attacked Gen Petraus as Gen. Betray Us? Look at Iraq now? To me this organization has lost credibility. It looks like Hillary against the world. But do not crown Obama yet. It is not over till it is over. In 2012, Gen Petraus will be the star of the other party.

Thank God a woman finally understands and stands up for an intelligent woman instead of a man with a good speech writer. Change is a word not a plan. He is a copy cat of other plans. It is amazing that white males will vote for a man with no plan over an intelligent woman. What does that say about the way they feel about their wives, daughters, mothers and sisters. Sexism is alive in the US. Obama is guilty of taking lobbyist money in large amounts while lying and saying he is against lobbyist. He is in bed with big donating lobbyist, slum lords and Oprah. Oprah has based her show on women. She wants us to buy her magazine, the products she pushes, and of course her show. She says "She is all about helping women" Yet she goes for the first swinging dick she sees. Do you feel used? Clinton has done more for women and children than Obama. Why is it women will be lead like sheep to any man, are jealeous of other women, and vote the way her husband or boyfriend tells her to vote. Grow up girls vote for women not another man who will send the money to Africa (of course they need it) instead of helping the poorest of all here - women and children. Compare yoiu salary and needs to survive with thoses of men in this country. You come up way short especially if you are divorced or widowed. Clinton has been critized by the Republicans since her husband was first elected because she was intelligent ans wanted to help get insurance for all Americans. The Republicans and the insurance lobbyist said she should bake cookies like all other women. Now we have a health care crisis in this coiuntry and she is made fun of by Obama because we have no health care. His plan is a copy of hers with a vew variations. How long will you allow women to be pushed back by sexist men who fear a smart woman. If you disagree I guess you will go to the kitchen and fix more cookies.

  • Posted By: brainy woman @ 02/16/2008 11:25:32 AM

Thank God some woman realizes that voting for an intelligent woman is more important than voting for a man who has good speach writers and not substance. Change is a word not a plan. Sexism is alive and well in the US. White men will vot for any man instead of a quailfied woman. What does that say about his view of his wife , mother and daughters. Ignorant woman vote the way their husband tells them to vote. Clinton has proven many times she is for women, children and the poor. Obams is in bed with lobbyist who give him big money and slum lords and of course Oprah. Her show is based on women and she goes for the first dick she sees. Do you feel used by Oprah?
