Yes. Get over it. The Second Amendment means anyone can carry a weapon in their domecile. All of the anti-gun crap that has come about one incident at a time is wrong.
only by licensed owners, people who are responsible enough to not use a firearm while intoxicated. I would have felt more comfortable if i was allowed to carry in my dorm.
Gun Free school zones are just PC. Those signs mean that a perp has several minutes to act while response is underway. You aren't going to wish away a few hundred million weapons. I think that certan staff should get training, and concealed carry. Not students, staff. You know, the draft-dodger america hating Professors.
To prevent future crimes every body with good background records needs to get license to carry fireams to defend their self..period..
As a student and a responsible firearm owner, i would feel quite safer if i was allowed to carry on campus. I don't want to be a hero, i just don't want to be a victim.
I feel it would not help but help promote even more violence! Why?? Then we'll be living like the wild west everywhere! It will bring fear to those around you. One your not to have a concealed weapon loaded until needed but who all follow that rule?? Then the carrier has to make sure it is well carried. Meaning no dropping it and having it set off killing some innocent peron. We also have to take the factor of wrongly judging before you react. There are many law enforcers who would love to take you out if they know your armed though with no attentions in using the weapon against them they can take fire on you killing you the wearer! It just would help in my opinion because sure you can be tested before and become crazy later! There have been many well educated killers out there and some with good background as much as bad ones! We have god vs bad. What I do feel is they should make it possible to wear bodyamor and start putting metal detectors in all schools because of the day and age we are in. We have not had any better peace with guns. There weapons! Like one member said he don't take it as having power but there are some that will! We can't have cowboys and cowgirls everywhere killing each other off. We have to limit the control in some way or develope a better weapon like carry stun guns though that have to be close range to use. There has to be a better solution.
They all ready tried that...they called them "gun free zones".
As long as proper training is implemented, background checks conducted, and the requalification with your carry weapon required on a bi-annual basis the same as with any police or sheriff's department, then college administrators should have no problem with the carrying of firearms on campus.
guns should be allowed end of story enough of these jerks killing the innocent
why not concealed guns?..they are bleeding heart liberals who want nothing but taking away our RIGHT to have guns!...they all think we are stupid, non-thinking neanderthals with nothing more than an emotional reaction to events...if one rational gun carrier had a gun at NIU `the assault would have ended as fast as it began with little or no injury...i am just taken aback by our government's thinking that we are all idiots and have no reason to possibly own a conceal permit...i venomously will always defend my life and property from any would be lunatic...i am a professional gunsmith and i completely defend our 2nd amendment...which shall not be infringed upon...PERIOD!!!
unfortunately it has been infringed upon many many times.See the "Brady Bill" for in depth infringement. And I believe "vehemently" was the word you were looking for.
to shrikant JP:gun availability IS restricted IS licsenced and IS strictly enforced.GUNS are NOT the problem. PEOPLE are the problem.A loaded gun left untouched can't kill anybody, but a wicked heart can.The innocent bystander getting hit with stray bullets is tragic but that same guy could have been stabbed in gang related violence or even run over by the same guys in their car.Want to ban cars & knives too? People are still murdered in jail and there is no weapons "available" to inmates.
Some general thoughts on the carnage at Northern Illinois University and all who have suffered violence in recent times, several year ago I started thinking about these problems when a man who I would like to call my friend, lost his son as the young man walked between his class and a dorm at Villanova University. He was killed in a drive-by shooting, random, drug related violence having nothing to do with the University or the victim, it was a case of mistaken identity.
The entirety of this issue, workplace safety, campus safety, school safety and general public safety from unpredictable violence is rooted in the changes of our society???s rationality since the nineteen-twenties. It is not the proliferation of firearms, there will always be a weapon, it isn???t police protection; there are always gaps in security for persons of violent behaviors to take advantage of, and there will always be delays in response, no one can respond instantaneously. Even an armed eye witness (Whether student, bystander or professor is immaterial.) couldn???t have prevented all of the death, too much would depend on their training and position, at best, only a few might have been saved.
a few is still better than none, and safety is still an illusion just as the constitution is the law of the land.
The issue is not should guns be allowed or not, the issue is the perpetuation the notoriety of this individual or any individual that commits a similar repulsive act. Notoriety provides others the idea that they can also make up for what they consider a failed life. The public does not need to know this person's name or their motivation. The only result gained from this type of exposure is to supply the next person (and there will be one) some crazy idea that by doing this type of despicable act will make up for all their inadequacies and failures.
I am all for law enforcement agencies and other institutions creating contingency plans and developing possible deterrents from any knowledge gained however, the only thing gained from releasing the killer???s name is the assurance of future similar events.
I agree, the media (propaganda machine) facilitates and enables more violent acts than movies or games could ever hope to propagate.Ever wonder why all media scources cover these stories with such exuberance. How come no stories about the 150,000 plus deaths a year by doctors' botched surgeries or wrong perscriptions, errant diagnosis, etc.? Where's all the bleeding hearts?
Hoplophobia the fear of weapons! Hoplon from the Greak[weapon]
I can't resist , european countries have higher violent crime rates than US, the only people with guns are criminals and police, and the police say even in a court of law, it is not there responsibility to protect any individual, so why not man up and learn to protect yourself, as the Swiss do!
hey wake up folks!!!!!!!!!!! the world is a sick place.there always has been and always will be disturbed people out there.Violence is an unfortunate fact of life. The law will not protect you from evil but will only make you aware of it's prescence.Everyone everywhere is responsible for their own safety and well being. The police are POWERLESS to prevent ANY crime unless they are standing next to the guy about to commit the crime. Not only should law abiding students carry concealed, but everybody should. How many lives would have been saved if bystanders and witnesses to crimes were armed and knew how to handle a gun.The jails would be virtualy empty. If i was a robber, rapist, mugger, etc. and I knew everyone was armed, I would be looking for a job! And the real hardcore criminals would be getting their just deserts by fed up citizens.Don't be a victim Americans. The men who penned are bill of rights had a very good reason for the 2nd amendment.
The wild west was wild before armed settlers helped tame it, the Colt 45 was nicked named ???The Peace Maker???. There are different reasons why some people oppose armed self-defense, none of them valid. There has been a minor revolution going on in this country for the last 15 or so years regarding rights of self-defense and in all the states that have allowed Citizens to carry concealed handguns, the doom sayers have been proved wrong every time. Really, the only thing some folks know about guns is what they see on TV or the movies. What the gun banners really want is a world without violence, at that will never happen.
If anyone has any doubt, the facts speak for themselves. I have studied seemingly countless cases of mass killings in gun free zones, but have never heard of one at a pistol range where there can be as many as 20 to 30 or more people all from different backgrounds, different races and different points of view, most with loaded guns. In fact people seem to be on their best behavior at the gun range.
You can never make a law that makes people like each other, but with the right laws, we can go a long way to bringing back mutual respect.

The only true deterrent to violence is the assurance that it will be met with a swift and even more violent response. As Americans, we can wish for "less-than-lethal" solutions, or wish to ban violent movies and video games, but the only thing that could potentially deter a school shooter is the knowledge that the shooter's plans would be quickly put to an end with a well-placed bullet from a bystander. The police can't be everywhere at once, no matter what. There is only one person you can depend on for your defense...and that's you. The truth is, we live in the "Wild West" already. There are people in the world who are drug addicts, who are crazy, who want nothing more than mark their page in history with extreme acts of violence. If these people were stopped with a swift and violent response, it just might give them pause to rethink their actions.
We must accept the most painful truth of all: that there are evil people in the world who want to do you harm. You cannot stop a deranged killer with a stun gun, a background check, a psych evaluation, or counseling. You can only stop them with a well-placed bullet.
"Draconian" that is what we have now
I support students for concealed carry. If our own leaders are allowed concealed carry and those who choose not to arm themselves have armed security 24/7. Why not let law abiding citizens defend themselves. NEVER reelect an encumbant get them all out until we find those with the courage to support the will of the people.
An armed society is a polite society. When I carry my concealed pistol, I realize that I carry the power of life and death in my hands, and it is my responsibility to hold myself and my actions to a higher degree of self-control, mental clarity, and alertness. I don't carry a gun because it makes me "more manly". I carry it because I believe that when myself or someone else's life is in the gravest, most extreme threat of imminent death or great bodily harm, I can act to stop it. I won't be a victim. It's time to let grown adults who are in our higher education system be allowed to defend themselves in the same way.
