everyone knows italy is beautiful and the food is incredible, and everyones really sexy. but now is not the time to talk about the positive attributes of italy. a crisis is a crisis. there is absolutely no control at this point and the comment below is a perfect reminder of the unsettling view italians have of their country. positive aspects mean nothing when theres been rotting garbage in the streets for months, garbage that comes from citizens who cant even attempt to try and recycle or cut back on waste, or even try composting (those things for the kitchen sink dont exist here!) so instead of defending yourselves so insistently, why not try and Do something? im sorry to be so harsh but this is ridiculous.

I have read with interest both the articles published onto this week Newsweek, I must admit that being an Italian living abroad for many years now, it has truly upset me to see how the international press always fails to represents Italy objectively. The above article at least looks at the way data are analysed and statistic which fail to offer a reliable overview.

The front page of Newsweek shows the situation of the Campania Region, mishandled by the local authorities and the Italian government , that's been a major problems as well as the current political crisis and the lack of reforms. My question is why in these articles Italy seems always to be portrayed in a negative way and surely there are many positive aspects that should be mentioned...Next time please give a more balanced overview...

The biggest problem for us is that to govern Italy it is necessary to purchase many votes from who could sell them. Particularly in southern Italy a lot of towns are fully controlled by organized criminality like Mafia in Sicily or camorra in Naples. So these guys normally sell votes and, after that, who will be at the Governament will have to give something back. This is what is happening with garbage (in Naples), where all the garbage industry is in the hands of the criminality; but quite everything else is like that. So we have only to "streets" to follow: or do the revolution or vote for proper people, but actually no "proper" is available, so....
People are not happy but what people can do is very few.

Unfortunately everything comes from the fact that to govern Italy, a big number of votes will have to be purchased from organized criminality, like Mafia in Sicily or Camorra in Naples (and particularly in southern Italy). So, after that, who is at the governament will have to give something back to them. Garbage industry is in the hands of these people. And all the rest is like that. What people could do? Or a revolution or vote proper people; unfortunately there is anybody "proper", so...

this is an horrible truth. I'm an italian worker , and i work in Enviromental Protection Agency of Veneto (ARPA) for Waste and composting Office, in my region the waste problem is very very little ecause we applied the separated collecting, but the other side of economy and pubblic amministration is a real disaster. Please , UK prime minister, Mr Brown declare war to Italy!! We surrend immediatly!!
Please put our politcs in a penitentiary or to Aja courtroom!!

Hi,I'm from Tuscany, and i live in the countryside 20 km away from florence...Everything is true, but most of the problems of This country are in the south(we never had the garbage down the streets and we have a good garbage recycle),Nobody says that We have two differend countries and Rome is the door of this difference. The culture of the country of the north is polluted of the mafia in the politics from the south. There are regions like Calabria or Campania with Naples where everything is illegal, and who lives in the other side of this country, the North( even a lot of people from the south) Has to pay a lot of taxes and sometimes is almost impossible to work paying the all taxes and we don't have any services either like public things. In the south there are a lot of unimployed people, but it's not true the all work illegally and pay the tax(pizzo)to the mafia or camorra or 'ndrangheta..it works like that even in country where a big community of calabresi is present,germmany,U.S.,Australia..the italians of the south in these country pay the "PIzzo"to each other...Who's fault then?Mayby a cultural problem?Yes.Fortunatly there are a lot of young people who don't think like that, but they have to move to the north or to a different country..I hear things like "pizzo"or other staff of he mafia from the television and when the say they are talking of my country it seems strange for me...I don't live this staff in my side of the country..we have< to do better things I agree, but we all have to pay for the side who is involved with mafia and is a shambles.

most beautiful place on earth..they just are blind..we need articles like this in our newspapers!!!!

    A little more love.

    Happiness when
    your loving profile
    presents an emotion,
    the song of a blond
    girl in the light
    of a sunshine and
    a beautiful joy
    near the sound of
    your heart....

The light of a new day.

    The light of
    a new day
    solicits a blackbird
    in the care
    of a craving,
    in the beautiful
    darkness of a
    sunny concept,
    in the songs
    of my heart, like
    a tender idea
    now reflecting
    the straw.
