Comment: Obama has always supported the Latino community...don't believe the hype.
He marched with many Latinos and fought for their civil rights in Chicago and abroad and will continue to truly be a voice and movement for the many Latinos that go unheard. Speaker: Senator Barack H. Obama Jr. (IL)
Title: Obama Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month
    Date: 09/15/2007
    Location: Chicago, IL

Obama Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

U.S. Senator Barack Obama released the following statement today to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.

"This month, I join all Americans in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor the achievements and sacrifices of Hispanic Americans. From a long tradition of service in the United States military to the visionary leadership of César Chávez, one of our nation's civil rights giants, Hispanic Americans have helped sew the social, economic, and cultural fabric of America.

"But despite all the progress we've made together, we know that there is more work to be done. I stood side by side with the Hispanic community when I was a community organizer in Chicago, I've stood by their side at immigration rallies, and I'll stand by their side when I'm President. We need to pass comprehensive immigration reform, reduce the Latino student drop-out rate, finally enact the DREAM Act, and provide the 15 million uninsured Latinos with affordable, high-quality health care. And let's end this war in Iraq now and turn the page on the failed policies of the last seven years that have left Latinos, and so many other Americans, behind.

"What has always distinguished the Latino community - and what distinguishes us as Americans - is our belief that with big dreams and hard work, anything is possible. And with the energy the Latino community brings to our democracy and our economy, we can be assured that America's future will be bright. So this month and every month, let's reaffirm our shared history as a nation of immigrants dedicated to prosperity and opportunity for all."

Its ironic that Hillary Clinton now needs to win Texas considering how often she bashes President Bush who is from Texas. Lots of luck

The anointing of Not ready for prime time Barack by Ted Kennedy and some of his clan gave him the impetus and subsequent media attention needed to help him overcome Hillary's lead. With Hillary down and possibly out and all of our more competent and experienced leaders (Biden/Dobbs) ignored by the media and those swayed by image and so-called charisma, I fear that the Dems are going to shoot themselves in the foot yet again. Do you really think that the Reps. would rather face Hillary than Obama? I think we may have lost our chance to deny so-called conservatives the further destruction of government. While Barack's handlers may be able to set up a firewall of protection during the primaries, his inexperience will be exposed during the national campaign and I fear that many independents will be swayed to support the status quo and familiarity of McCain, despite the negative consequences of the policies he will be compromised to offer to maintain conservative support.

If you think John McCain isn't a liar , a cheat, and a traitor, then you should read Senator McCain wants to be President. He broke the code, collaborated with and took aid and comfort from the enemy while in Hanoi. He also was in cahoots with Charles Keating. Remember him? He also has close ties to the Gambino Crime family to wit: Bill BONANNO. While in prison, he tried to commit suicide and also suffers from PTSD. In 93 he was photographed hugging Bui Tin the Hanoi torturer known as "The Bug". He was also phtographed shaking hands with Vo Van Kiet, the commander of the Vietcong. Anyone who can't see that this just an OIL WAR needs to have his loop cleaned and stop drinking his bathwater.

I really think that the Dem voters are doing McCain a favor by anointing Obama over Hillary. He wouldn't be where he is now without the Teddy K. wing of the Kennedy clan's recent support. He got lots of media and cheerleading impetus from that point on and he still has not shown anything outside of well rehearsed campaign speeches and a firewall of protection by his handlers who seem to deflect any pertinent criticisms from others. Teddy should be ashamed to compare Obama to the spirit and excellence of John. Barack, you are no John Kennedy. It won't be that easy in the finals and I suspect many will shift to McCain as a less chancy alternative. If "Not ready for prime time" Obama is the choice, I fear that, once again, the Dems will have shot themselves in the foot and we will lose our opportunity to reverse the many decades of damage by a continuance of so-called conservative policies that aim to destroy government of the people, for the people, and by the people. Do they really think the Reps., despite their hatreds, fear facing Barack over Hillary, Is it all about charisma, image and power brokers? I guess that's why our best qualified candidates were ignored early on in the process: Biden and Dobbs.

i would also like to know what exactly in the past 30 years hostillary has done for minorities? how and when? give specifics please. she has never walked a mile in my shoes and never will. she is a polarizing figure and if she wins the nomination people will flock to vote for mccain.

  • Posted By: auriburu @ 02/19/2008 10:10:21 PM

what experience? she is a junior senator, has passed NO major legislation, her health care reform plan was a fiasco, whitewater, she stands by a man who has cheated on her numerous times--this is what you want to lead our nation? she can't even stand up for herself. we all know their marriage is a sham, yet she clings to him with that silly grin on her face--what else is she lying about?

  • Posted By: jhp1940 @ 02/19/2008 10:00:55 PM

Hillary claims to have 35 years experience. What experience? She failed at Health care reform while Bill was president. She has treated secret service personnel like dirt. She has never accomplished anything duri9ng her Senate career. She says she will pull the troops out of Iraq. This is a huge mistake as Iraq is now beginning to show huge progress. THe Iraqis are returning to Bagdad and other towns as the areas become safer. The different tribes are beginning to work together. I could go on and on but this is enough to make a person doubt that Hillary would is a good choice for the highest office in this country.

I certainly dont think that Hillary will do a thing that will help us. maybe in the short run ,but not in the long run.Plus we dont need more than one president! with electing Hillary it would make it so she was talking but her words would come from Bill! She talks about taking the millitary out of Iraq, but how? Wouldnt that show all the other countries that we are a weak country by taking our millitary out randomly?! i dont think Hillary is the way to go!

I suspect that is why we elect a congress and a president to help keep trade in this company fair. If what you say is true about the corporations could have done more at the local and state levels. Then that leads me to believe that Clinton was in bed with the corporations knowing that they would move jobs out of the country. And that hopefully was not the case.

Relying upon TX is a bad move for Clinton, and probably not in the cards since Republicans have already resigned themselves to running aganst either candidate.

Since they win most by Hillary losing, chances are that she will not win TX, especially where Bush as President prefers a Republican replacement.

Hillary Clinton has worked and fought for the rights of children, women, and minorities, on a national scale for more than thirty years. That's a fact Mr. Obama can't dismiss with his coy reotoric. She has built a record he can't come close to matching ! She deserves the Hispanic vote. She's earned it and will continue to work for our benefit. If you want to be entertained, vote Obama. If you want results vote Hillary.

After 8 years of GWB I think I prefer to be entertained by Obama. What a pleasant change that would be. And Hillary can go back to the Senate and be a good worker bee. Dooo/bee/Dooo.beeeeee/Dooooooo.

READY ON DAY ONE. Hillary is READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. And, YES SHE WILL return the Oval Office to the house of corruption and influence peddling. So let us remember the good old times. Nostalgia awaits us for a return to those wonderful Clinton years. Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate, Cattlegate, Clemency for terrorist bombers of the FALN in exchange for votes, and Dubai Ports. Let us bring back the cast of characters like Jim and Susan McDougal. The sweet memories of the Rose Law Firm where Whitewater began as a land deal between the Clintons and the McDougals. Let???s all remember Hillary???s missing law-billing records which raised questions about Hillary???s role in the Castle Grande deal. Subpoenaed in 1994, they went missing until 1996, when they turned up in a White House room next to her office but she says she doesn't know how they got there. Cattlegate was Hillary???s incredibly astute investment that turned a $1,000 investment into a $100,000 profit on cattle futures. It was the kind of inside trading that Martha Stewart served time for. Let???s not forget Castle Grande, the sham real-estate scheme. A federal inspector general's report found Hillary drew up the legal papers that were used to improperly funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars to Seth Ward, father-in-law of her ex-law partner Web Hubbell. And who can forget Travelgate where Billy Dale was fired by Hillary to make way for Clinton Cronies who made millions on White House travel contracts. And Filegate ??? the improper White House rummaging through 900 FBI files on Republican officials and Clinton enemies ??? Nixon-style. But the Clintons said it was just a SNAFU.

I want to see Hillary "hit the ground running". Ok maybe just "hit" the ground.

One thing that this election has successfully done is to spark a lot of passion on both sides of the political fence. On one hand you have the new style pol(Obama) and his oratorical ability versus Establishment(Clinton). You then have McCain at odds with a significant part of his party because he is not a traditional conservative Republican. Obama to his credit spoke out on the war, bur he wasn't even in the Senate. He wasn't privy to the information whcih was present at hand, nor he must have been emotionally stunted not to appreciate the effects of 9/11. The Congress was essentially lied to and who was to know? Easy to armchair quarterback when even Clinton thought Saddam had to go. The Clintons have been accused of having a "bunker mentality" when it comes to the press. I am not saying that some of what Lady Professor has said isn't true, but was it fair to have the Republicans at that itme continue to undermine what President Clinton attempted to do? Was it fair to have them launch an investigation itno Whitewater to the tune of more than 40 million dollars and find NOTHING? The Clintons went broke trying to fend off so many legal challenges, spearheaded by the Republicans. You can't tell me the Republicans don't practise Macheavellin(sp?) principals in the way the smear and twist the opposition. You all out there need to give the Clintons a break. A vote for McCain will be like an extension of the Bush policies, because the far right-wing nuts feel a need to reign him in. Whatever decision you make in voting, think long and hard about the consequences.

You cast your vote for Hillary and I will cast mine for Obama. I want something different and I can see no change in the politics of Hillary from what we already have. Greedy Corporations running the country with their lobbyist and money.

Just another reality check for Obamanazis: Hillary just put out a blue print for the Economy, further proof that she is working towards the ACTIONS she will take once she gets into office. The only recent news I have heard from the Obama campaign is that Ben and Jerry's just came up with a new flavor of ice cream named after him, lol. So is his blue print for our faling economy a recipe for ice cream!!! What a joke.

    • Posted By: 3rd World Citizen @ 02/19/2008 7:46:55 PM

I will take the ice cream. You can have Hillary.

    • Posted By: 3rd World Citizen @ 02/19/2008 7:44:40 PM

I'll take the ice cream. You can have Hillary.

fortheloveofmoney: By now, you know the media has had it in for the Clintons since the 90s. Payback. Also, I am not sure what you mean that Obama's money is clean. He packaged donations to avoid the Feingold/McCain. HE HAS 700 million. That is ridiculous to squander and unfair. He went back on his word. Check out his integrity by looking at archives of Chicago Sun Times.

In all fairness the DNP should step up and admit signals were given before the nomination process even began that Florida and Michigan delegates would be seated no matter who won the state.. Especially Florida since it was republicans in control of moving their primary up and breaking the rules. The party can ill afford to have Florida feel alienated in the general election. Instead they let Clinton take the fall.
No one thought then these delegates could determine the nomination and I do not think they will or should now. But to bash Sen. Clinton for trying to do what is best for the party while giving Obama a pass for trying to change the super delegate rules put in place long ago is the height of hypocrisy!
Super delegates were put in place when the party decided to make the nomination so open to outside influences. They were created for exactly the situation we now face, when a movement threatens to co-opt the political party and/or the voters are swayed toward someone who may not be best for the party or country.
We are seeing the price to be paid for opening up the nomination to the general public. What is next; a general election for the democratic nominee, then another in November? In all likelihood this will be decided on popular vote, I only hope Florida's count does not have an impact. God help us if (shades of 2000) the overall popular vote is thwarted because of a technicality involving (not counting) Florida!
I blame the Democrat National Party for this fiasco and for not having the courage to defend their position(s).
Could it be anyone suggesting Barak might not be qualified is attacked as a bigot?
    Truth hurts? Grow up!

The states involved - Florida and Michigan - have been told by the DNC they can hold real contests in the future - give the candidates time to campaign in the states and have both names on the ballots. If the states don't want to do that, the easiest and most reasonable way to get delegates from the two states seated at the convention would be to wait until the very last real contest has been held, and then add in votes from Florida and Michigan delegates in the same proportion as the candidates garnered in total from all the real contests. That's about all that can be done. Can't count anything that happened when who knows how many people didn't vote because they knew their votes wouldn't count. Can't count anything when both candidates names weren't on the ballot. Can't count anything when the candidates didn't campaign in the states.
