Definitely agree with the previous comment. I have stopped watching all the same shows. Very disappointed with Keith as well. Why don't you ask the public about their opinion on this issue and be objective about this? Since they are the ones who see the 'media bias", ask them if they think that the media is favoring Obama or giving him more airtime than HIllary instead of putting out an aritcle like this and stating that the Clinton campaign will be blaming the media if they lose? I think the fact that you have this article posted shows your bias and guilt.

"... the press is almost certain to turn on both men. Digging through the personal record, searching for human flaws, is what reporters do when they cover presidential campaigns, and the critical skepticism only deepens when the winner occupies the Oval Office." WHEN? When it is too late, I suspect.

ANY good politician knows how to manipulate the media. THE CLINTON's are masters at this.
HOW IRONIC? THE MEDIA was a big factor in CLINTON's ninety two victory. I can clearly hear the the echoes of GEORGE BUSH JR blasting the media and the Clinton's for portraying his father in a negative light.
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND the Clinton's have manipuluated the media so much that it has come back to BITE THEM.
IF you play with FIRE it is only a matter of time before you get BURNED.
THE REASON THE MEDIA IS SO HARD ON THE CLINTON's is simple. THEY have been played by the CLINTON's to a T. AND THEN THE LEWINSKY DISASTER. THE WAY CLINTON LIED WAS SHOCKING. HE LIED WITH A STRAIGHT FACE. TO HIS DEFENSE KENNEDY and MANY others have had affairs. THE MEDIA knew but just let it go. TIMES HAVE CHANGED.
IF THERE HAD BEEN NO LEWINSKy matter the MEDIA would not be as tough on the CLinton's.

I wish that the press would stop saying Bill Clinton injected race. I am a minority and I saw absolutely nothing wrong with him comparing Obama to Jackson. Obama now is what Jackson was before, a charismatic leader. The media has swift boated Bill Clinton.

I do beleive the press is all over the Obama campaign. They have proven themselves by swarming predictions of his success only to be embareesed by the outcome. Obama seems to have taken a page out of the George Bush campaign style with his wink-wink, nod-nod comments. I geuss the era of true journalism is a thing of the past.. Personaly I'll take substance over form. I think eight years is enough.

This situation is no different that the lament of a corporate PR type when the CEO's wife tries to grab some limelight. The press loved Bill Clinton- the female reporters fantasized him (see "The American President" starring Michael Douglas) and the men envied him. Mrs. Bill Clinton is simply a third wheel.

As always with Newsweek, a balanced, fair, intellignent story. In the internet age, this magazine has managed to stay relevant with great writers and thinkers.

There is no level to which the press will not sink in order to sell a paper or a magazine. No concern for the lives of the subjects under fire and no remorse if they get the story all wrong. They may now be just a bit below attorneys and car salesmen for ethics and integrity.

It is a certain thing that since the lessons of the Watergate scandal, reporters and pundits have re-created the Fourth Estate as infallible unsolicited advisors to the public and that journalistic ethics are now a relic of the past. The story which leads need not have any direct connection to truth or accuracy.

Why are people complaining about Obama getting a free ride when John McCain who has more of a record in congress is getting a free ride from the press and no one talks about that. NO one talks about his flip flopping as far as torture no one talks about his flip flopping as far as President's Bush tax cut. No one talks about the fact that he is a war mongerer. Hillary is always complaing about the press giving Obama a free ride that all they do is positive coverage of him well guess what maybe Hillary reeks negativity. I mean she is the one that is running around trying to seat ghost delegates after she agreed that they werent going to campagin there. Now she wont show her tax returns until she gets the nomination but comments like that doesnt invite negative coverage. The Clintons' need to stop whining and take responsibility. Its always someone elses fault. Oh I dont do well with caucases, Oh Obama won states that democrats dont win in the general election anyway. My favorite Obama has the money he is the establishment candidate. ENOUGH!

Well, this is part of what people mean when they refer to the breadth and depth of Senator Clinton's "baggage". She has a poor relationship with the press. Doesn't matter who started it at this point -- it is a fact of life and must be taken into account when we decide who can best get the job done once installed in the White House. If the press (rightly or wrongly; I'm talking reality, not pie-in-the-sky) is against you on Day One, what are your chances of being a successful President from Day One? I leave it to you to answer that question for yourselves ...

  • Posted By: MChieco @ 02/17/2008 1:15:40 PM

One Reason The Press goes easy on Obama is race. If they are critical of Hillary, they are doing ther job. If they are critical of Obama they are racist. With a straight face The Headline can read Black Lawmakers switching to Obama. Can you imagine if the healdline read White lawmakers are switching to Clinton ?

Maybe they have nothing to say negative about Obama. She's always complaining about everything.

Has anyone wondered WHY the press is bias? Maybe they don't like the Clintons, and they are also boring!
    Clap, clap, point, point.

Just a couple of random thoughts after reading all the comments. First, if you support Clinton, great. But it would be kind of nice if you knew how to spell her name. For the record, it is Hillary not Hilary. These aren't typos, there repeated several times in the posts below. And yes, I'll probably have typos as well so sharpen your arrows.
Second, are we really concerned that Obama smokes? Really? Was Bill Clinton less effective because he smoked cigars? Maybe it is the brand we don't agree with? Really?
Third, After Michigan and Florida moved up their primaries to dates that were unacceptable to the Democratic National Committee -- in hopes of gaining a more meaningful role in the nominating process for big states -- the DNC announced that delegates chosen in the rouge primaries would not be seated at this summer's party convention. Clinton and Obama both agreed to this. In spite of this, Hilary won 55 percent of the vote in Michigan....where she was the only name on the ticket. I agree these delegates should be heard, and in order to do that they should hold a primary where both candidates can campaign and both legitimately put their names on the ballot. How many Obama or Clinton voters stayed home because they know the delegates weren't going to be seated? Let all of them participate and step back from the sleaziness of trying to get in this way.

I totally agree with your comment, but................After seeing you correct others on the spelling of Hillary's name, you made the same mistake and wrote Hilary. Oh well....I guess we all make mistakes.
