    Republic of Kosovo will flourish. All this rubbish that there are lots of criminals and organised crime (in Kosovo), I can assure you that is no more than in any other country in Europe.
    Kosovo was ruled, occupied by a bunch of criminals (Serbian government) who were working closely with these criminals in Kosovo.
    Now we have a state, we will have our own police and army, our government.
    Judge us after few years and we will see who the real criminals are?

    Dear JJJJ- Ooo yes indeed , Albanians are all baptised here in Greece. I don't believe there is any other explanation for the fact that , for instance in Athens where live 500 000 Albanians, they in 98% declare themselves Christians . If you know that most of them came in last 10-12 years and get baptised at the age of 30 or more - what would be your conclusion. This is a way that Greeks deal with it -of course it is not meter of gun on your head but you can not be accepted here if at least you are not Christian as Greeks are . And it is O.K. for everyone , Albanians don't practise their new religion they just gain a Greek patron who was interested in their case , probably served as good father . And no one every think to rise a question of the human rights , not even Albanians. This is a process of assimilation. That's how it is in Greece , that 's their thing.

    Vangeli ??? Good bless you! I agree with your post. While I am not Albanian/Serb (I came from a long line and mix of Americans ??? and proud to be American) I am also a Christian and liked your post. I married an Albanian (she is beautiful ??? a beautiful mix of Albanian and Greek).

    Through marriage I have taken a great interest in the Albanian history and culture. I have been to Albanian, toured many areas, and the VAST MAJORITY of Albanians I know are Christian.

    BTW ??? Greeks don???t make Albanians be ???baptized??? (the fool who wrote that comment). AND, you are not born a Christian or Muslim (much to the contrary of the beliefs of many of the crazy people in the Balkians).

    To the ignorant people who don???t understand history ??? Albanian was a Christian nation until the Turks forced the religion of Islam on them via the sword and gun (much like today how the Islamic radicals want to force it on the world). In fact, the Albanian flag ??? the double-headed Eagle, has it roots in Christianity ??? one head looks to Rome and one looks to Constantinople. Anyway, none of that history matters when it comes to being a Christian accept one???s love for Jesus Christ!

    By the way, my brother in laws name is Vangel!

    I enjoy TonyM???s comments too. They prove that some Albanians are smart (many are!) and many are Christian as well.

    Turning this into a Christian vs Muslim debate is lame since many Albanians in the south of Albania are Christian.

    You are trying to make the point that Albanians are lazy and criminals. To beggin with, generalizing is the wrong way to approach the argument. It will be the same to saying that ALL Serbs are criminals, when most of them are not, that Serbs would go to WAR for Kosova, when most will not.
    A BS answer? It is amazing that two educated people can not have a normal conversation without one or another losing the temper - in this case you. This is why there is fights in that region. When Kosova asked for dignity, Milosevic sent in tanks.
    How can you say the majority are criminals? I guess this blog is a simple propaganda to you. It will NOT bring Kosova back.
    We will be around and see how things fall in place but as I have mentioned before, Albanians did move from Albania to Kosova. They lived there. And Serbs had the power and even during that time not many lived in Kosova. Albanians there were never less than 90% even according to yugoslav statistics.

    CORRECTING: I meant they DID NOT move from Albania to Kosova. Even if we tried, they would shoot you at the border. And whoever did cross over the border, most of the time was handed over to the border crossings and decades in jail.

      "Decades in jail" you don't even have jail to begin with they are all on the streets if you really had jail, then this new president and PM of Kosovo would be in jail from long time ago.

    Vangeli, it is hard to follow you. You claim that your roots are from the apostol Paul himself , am I wright? Only that Ilirium had major cities : Sirmium , Singidunum, Naisus, Skupi , Stobi and one only in nowdays Albania - Skodra while others are main Serbian cities. Who knows history will understand! Also it was Byzantine Empire all the way long from the St.Paul until it become Serbian State . Still there is NO historical evidence , neither historian nor book claiming anything else . But soon we are expecting some new theories to rise. Yet, nothing. I believe in love too as you only that this subject is a bit more complicated that that!

            I didn't leave Croatia because I couldn't succeed but because I was a 2nd class citizen, which Albanians with majority were not even close with my situation. I came to US because my close relatives were there not because I liked it. U.S. is just a country with a lot of dumb people that's why they are so great. And US is not great to me if they never supported Croatian independence I would never be here. I can see why US is so great to you because you have a better life in US than you did in Dear Albania, I'm opposite.

              Going back to where we started: Yugoslavia was better off and this is why you were better off and now Serbia is worse off that most in former Yugoslavia. You and former yugoslavians had a choice to travel and move on, in Albania we did not. Would you have been a first class citizen in Serbia or just a serb from Croatia. Whatever the reasons are, there is no war so no excuse to leave Croatia/Serbia. Differently like you, people in Kosova nevel left, no matter hown bad it got. People like you and I have a choice to go back or stay in the US. There were always be dumb and smart people, This country gave you and your relatives a chance and this country is blessed. Albania, Kosova and Serbia will set their own path.

    I wonder how dedicated Americans would feel if the State of California decided to break away from the U.S.A. and become a separate country? They, as the 6th or 7th largest economy in the world, certainly could be capable of survival. I believe the Serbians have a legitimate complaint and also think that the U.S. should not interfere and/or complicate matters. The immediate recognition by the U.S. only creates more tension in an already non-stable area of the world.

        That might be matter of time. Los Angeles is already 50% Latino(a). And the most Latinos have more than 3 kids in a family. While white Americans only are having1-2 and moving out on top of that. I personally new Mexican Americans in LA who believed that it's the Mexican land and they are living on the temporary occupied territory. They celebrate all the Mexican hollydays and wave Mexican flag every time.

          Mexicans are free to do celebrate their holidays and wave their flags without worrying about retaliation from the police. The same cannot be said for minorities in the former yugoslavia which is why the world witnessed and aided the break-up of yugoslavia.

            Yes US government preaches cultural tolerance. But rest of the citizens of US are not so happy about that "invasion". All the Latinos were tought in Spanish language in public schools before but not any longer. Now they have to learn English.

                What we are not happy about as far as the Mexicans go is they are here illegally if they had Visa's
                and had come in the right way within the law there would be no concerns..... As far as spanish goes
                it is our liberals buddies who have cowbuckled to their every will whim and wish......I'm Greek my
                parents speak Greek in the House and at Ethnic gatherings....In the working world and day to day life
                they speak english........That is all AMERICANS WANT BE LEGAL,SPEAK,READ,AND WRITE ENGLISH .

There is a man in Vermont who is now wanting to claim the Northeastern part of the state as independant of the US....the articles are all over the media. The man is just trying to prove a point....that just because a certain "group" is a majority that they deserve to have thier own country. Now the fact that Kosovo (and yes it is still KOSOVO not kosova...KOSOVO has been it's name for centuries) is poor -- don't blame the serbs. It's because the Albanian have turned the territory into a ghetto...which they will do with the rest of Europe.

          Comparing a "group" and a "man" in the context that you are using is extremely stupid. The group you are referring to is 90% of the population. The democratically elected parliament voted 109-0 in proclaiming independence. Your references to poor and ghetto are themes that have been constantly used by other people making comments on this site and they represent a very prejudiced tone that is the root cause of serbian ultra-nationalism. The war and serb oppression had everything to do with the poor state of the present day economy in Kosova. A new day has arrived and the way forward for a free kosova will lead to an economy that will sustain itself.

        Actually the US government never hesitates to kill it's own citizens in case if they rebel against it. And there were many, many cases confirming that. My former boss Joe told me that government have bombed the whole city block in Philadelphia when the Black Panther rebels have barricaded themselvs there and refused to surrender. Then it was case in Waco county in Texas where all rebels along with wives and kids have all died in the fire.

          People outside of America always heap insults on Americans saying they are ignorant of world affairs or history.
          But some of the comments here show that this works both ways. Some people outside of American think they know everything about America, but only succeed in making themselves look ignorant. Comparing the Black Panthers and Waco to genocide and ethnic cleansing and countries ruled by the Mafia is incredibly foolish and ignorant. People in American are free to disagree with the policy of the leaders they elect. But they are not free to break the law and use violence or endanger the lives of other American citizens. Some people in other countries don't even have the freedom to disagree or live in peace.
          It's stubborn pride and hatred that ruin everything. As someone once remarked, it's like a person who would cut off their head just to spite their face.

            That was not insult on Americans. I am now the American Citizen too. I was just trying to show that any government inluding the US government would not tolerate violence and violation of the law on it's territory. What do you think KLA (Kosovo Liberation Arrmy) was doing. Sitting in a circle and singing "Kumbaya"? Peace, Love? Did they not rebel against Federal government?

      takes in the past here in the USA but you we tend to correct our problems. Today and since the end of the Civil War we as a country have made great strides to correct our mistakes. The country could have remained divided but we came together and thou gh we have a way to go to make thing perfect we are always working towards that end....... The Balkans and other areas of the world instead of learning from the past choose to try ro revisit it every day..... Keep doing this but ask your
      self this will it help my children have a better life? will it make my family safer?
      You are so worried about ancient wars and borders that you can't see the future and you don't want
      peace because you have learned nothing from the past

      I'm getting sick and tired of the U.S. being blamed for all the worlds ills . Frankly the Balkans
      have been a mess through out history. So many people differant languages differant religons
      differant customs......That is the problem in general with Europe .......everyboby is right nobody
      is wrong....... Europe should have taken care of this mess but where are they. The Russians
      talk big but those are the same people who put you into the yoke of slavery.
      As far the Muslims go they will take Europe over without firing a shot. They will use the socialistic
      models of government of Europe to take Europe.......
      And lastly if this helps us here in the U.S. not be attacked by Muslim Terrorists so be it
      And as far as Iraq goes we The Americans drew the line in the sand in Iraq and Afghanistan.
      Hell the UN and Europe can't hold their end of the committments as far as troops to fight.
      But whats new Europe gave us two World Wars because they can't make up their mind about anything
      and didn't have the balls to stand up to anything.

    I strongly disagree with you on this one...There are still many serbians living in croatia first of all...second serbs in bosnia and montenegro love living there as well...I could ask you the same question, why are the Puerto Ricans in America waving their own flag? Just because they live in a different country does not mean they can't love their own. You might not be aware, but Albania is the poorest country in the world and what do you think is going to happen to Kosovo? Same exact thing. I just can't believe that US would allow development of another third world country?! I also do believe that this whole thing is illegal! Basque have been trying to separate from Spain for many, many years....and despite all the terrorist attacks the U.N. and U.S. have never allowed it. Not to mention all the other countries in the world. I have a strong feeling that the U.S. will see that they have made a huge mistake...The time will show!
