    Comment: I seem to read a lot of comments about the mexicans in the southwest US and the American Indians. It is obvious that you know nothing about them because the Mexicans here all wanted to leave Mexico for the better opportunities in the US and they are very happy to be here in the US. The Indians have no desire to break away from the US either because things are getting better for them too. Wake up, stop trying to make a comparison to things that have absolutely no commonality. We have no right to hold on the US lands? Excuse me, I do not see anyone saying lets break away from the US and the reason why is that we have it so good here. All who live here and have visited other countries realize that the US is a great place to live and work. The evil of Milosevic has caused this to happen, shame on the Serbs for not rising up against him like the Romanians did against Ceausescu.

      The comments about the Mexican population is due to the fact that already you had protests in the streets of the United States with the Mexican population requesting citizenship. Also, there are already requests for Spanish to be allowed as the primary language in US schools where the population majority of that area is hispanic. The point being that the way the conflict in Kosovo started is already well underway in the United States. As for the American Indian population, the point there is that the United States government committed by far one of the greatest ethinic cleansing in history, but that isn't talked about. And finally, that evil Milosevic spent a significant amount of time in the US just before being elected, ironically so did Saddamm Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, interesting isn't it. You can't blame an entire people on a dictator because then we should hate every Iraqi, Italian, Spaniard, German, Romanian, Chilean, etc. etc.

        The Mexicans who protested int he streets of LA and all across America were NOT wanting Citizenship! They wanted to burn US flags and desire the portions of the USofA that were purchased from Mexico byt he US gov't be given back to them. This is wrong and they should have been shot as an invading army would be shot any other day of the week. Kosovo has no right to become independent of Serbia. The people that make up the new Kosovo are mainly the vagrants and scum that roamed Europe looking for a place to steal. Bill Clinton in 99 and the UN are evil to dowhat they did in killing the Serbs who were defending themselves from the invaders.

      how u can say that we didnt raised against Milosevich and his regime!!! but i believe its not all his fault. where is ur home land?? america is young country, isnt? after how many years indians feel how they have some chance there after 100-200 years maybe, what about all others, what about high educated people who work on streets or if they work in office they work on very low level even if they have higher education level than their bosses and all coz they have different skin. give me a break of ur perfect land for living only for you, easy for u to sit on red warm chair and watch bbc or cnn and so easily for everyone to think wrong about serbs. what u will do if Osama bina Laden ask you "give me half of ur country" u will open door widely for them?, cmonnnn...

    Kosovars are the filth and the vagrants and human scum that invaded Serbia. They have NO RIGHT to steal part of the land that belongs to the Serbs. If it were not for Bill Clinton and the black caucus, the U.S. would still be training the Christian Serbs to fight the invading Muslims calling themselves Albanians and claiming to be displaced. You people that agree have NO CLUE as to what was going on in Yugoslavia when all of this came about. The Serbs are and have always been in the right for defending themselves from these invaders.

    Let`s celebrate the newest state in Europe. As a Kosovar who experienced and wittnesed attrocities of Serbian regime, I would like to thank International community for helping end the genocide in Kosovo in 1999 and bringing peace in the region by supporting the independence of Kosova. Kosova is an example in the region and international community for the tolerance and maturity they have shown and continue to show during the state making process. It`s time to look ahead, the world has gone a long way while Balkan countries are stuck in the middle ages, Serbian nationalism along with their myths need to end if they want to join their neighbors and travel together the road to prosperity. Aghhh it`s good to be free

    I find the article by the author extremely bias and deplorable for the reasons mentioned on the article above.Every side has a coment and usually is self-centered to their interests(Rusia-Chechnya,China-Tibet and Taiwan,Spain-Basque,Cyprus-Turks etc)including our author who is concerned about the plight of Palestinians in the Jewish state.Jewish people were very helpful to Kosovar plight over the years so e few bad seeds will not change our mind or apprecite their eforts as a state.We dream of Europe without borders when Serbs and Albanians will live next to each other ,but until all the sides are equal as nations that will not hapen.Albanians never asked to join Albania because they have their own identety just like Germany and Austria or Switzerland.It was the bigest celebration with over one milion people on the streets and not a single incident-something that many countrys of the world would be proud of.I was in the hospital for a test.If you can only see how Americans treat Mexicans,yuo would be shocked.I would not want independence from Serbia if I was treated like a Mexican.America can annex us any time.Who needs United Nations to be a state-ask Taiwan.HAPPY BIRTHDAY KOSOVE.Sami Krasniqi,East Kampton,NY

      Yep, I do completely agree with this opinion because the expected standoff for a UN recognition of the new state is expected to be accompanied by violence which may be the beginning of islamic terrorists to come and intervene to support their brothers!!!!!!!!!! LOL.

    We should not forget that kosovo was the one who started fighting in early 1990's to become indepent and it was the legal right of Serbia to curb this illegal ambition by the war led by the matyr Sir Slobodan Milosevic. The same response is normally expected from any country's leader in case a part of his nation tries to separate. Certainly we still remember what happened in Gaza strip when hamas movement tried to take over the power. So there's no similarities between the kosovo case and palestine case in just that the wrong side sometimes temporarily wins.

    Every country's history is plauged with some truly terrible acts, but to define an entire people based on these acts would mean that every American should hate a muslim simply because it was several Muslims who were responsible for 9/11. Additionally, if some other religious group suddenly became a majority in Rome and decided to take over the Vatican, I don't think that every Catholic out there would say that these people took over fair and square so it should be theirs because Rome and what exists in Rome has deep spiritual meaning for Catholics, in that same way, Kosovo has deep spiritual meaning for Serbs.

    So this article written by a serb is supposed to be objective and unbiased enough to offer an acceptable view of Kosovo's independent future? Give me a break!! I seems more like that it is the current Serbian state that is a failure. The sooner the serbs come to terms with the changed reality, the sooner they will be able to reconstruct a democratic and european state inSerbia itself.
